Boehner Blasts Reid, Won’t Allow ‘Immigration Reform’ on Border Bill (Video)

Speaker John A. Boehner vowed the House would not allow the Senate to add any “comprehensive immigration reform bill or anything like it, including the DREAM Act” to the House’s $659 million border bill Tuesday.

“Senator Reid, embarrassed that he cannot strong-arm the Senate into passing the blank check President Obama demanded, is making a deceitful and cynical attempt to derail the House’s common-sense solution,” the Ohio Republican said in a statement aimed at Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., after Reid suggested he could add immigration to the border bill.

“So let me be as clear as I can be with Senator Reid: the House of Representatives will not take up the Senate immigration reform bill or accept it back from the Senate in any fashion,” he said. “Nor will we accept any attempt to add any other comprehensive immigration reform bill or anything like it, including the DREAM Act, to the House’s targeted legislation, which is meant to fix the actual problems causing the border crisis. Such measures have no place in the effort to solve this crisis, and any attempt to exploit this crisis by adding such measures will run into a brick wall in the People’s House.”

Boehner also slammed Obama.

“While the White House has abandoned all pretense of governing and the Senate is doing almost nothing to address our struggling economy, Republicans remain committed to addressing the American people’s priorities, and that includes passing a responsible bill this week to help secure our border and return these children safely to their home countries.”

So, border in crisis, and the GOP is filibustering Senate legislation, and looks to be unable to pass anything of their own in the House.

    Happy vacation.

The GOP passed a bill/law, harry wants to sabotage it.. maybe you should have read the article..

  • David Farrar

Reid knows he can’t get Senate approval of the House effort, is the only reason he has sabotaged the House bill now, pure and simple.

I think we’ve seen what happens when bills are rushed through. Unintended consequences are bad enough but we can’t even trust the POTUS will enforce laws as written. As far as “unaccompanied children” go almost none are. To be considered “unaccompanied” you can’t have relatives in the U.S. But as has been widely reported about 1/2 come with a parent/s and nearly all have a relative in the U.S. they are looking to join. Law’s definition of Unacc Alien Child is from 6 USC §279(g)(2):”there is no parent or legal guardian in the United States”

I don’t know if this is Boehner’s usual BS or not, but I like the words coming out of his mouth.

if America can make marijuana legal, I don’t see why America can’t make undocumented immigrants legal.

    • Charles Edward Brown

It is not legal, it is still against Federal drug laws. Our President just fails to enforce the law.

  • Charles Edward Brown

Reid needs to take his medicine and turn up his hearing aid, I don’t think he listens to anyone but himself. He should pass the House bill and get it to President Obama so that we can start deporting these illegal aliens.

  • Kumander Talib

I will not Vote any Republican candidate anymore in my state,we need to fix our broken immigration PERIOD

  • George
