Boehner: Immigration Principles Not ‘Amnesty’

Speaker John A. Boehner strongly defended his immigration principles released in January against charges from conservative Republicans that they amount to “amnesty.”

“Some want to call it amnesty,” the Ohio Republican told the Cincinnati Enquirer in a wide-ranging, hourlong interview. “I reject that premise … If you come in and plead guilty and pay a fine, that’s not amnesty,” he said.

Boehner reiterated his desire to pass an immigration overhaul, and the paper characterized his position as “a key area of agreement” between the speaker and President Barack Obama at their White House meeting last week.

“He wants to get it done. I want to get it done,” Boehner said. “But he’s going to have to help us in this process.”

But the speaker said he told Obama he’d leave it up to the White House to determine just how to do that.

CQ Roll Call’s whip count shows just 18 House Republicans willing to publicly back the immigration principles.

Boehner also said in the interview he plans to stay on as speaker for another term.

A default is only triggered if Hussein Obama’s regime chooses not to pay interest on the debt. Interest payments on the US Government’s debt are only about 10% of US government revenues.

Creating legislation to accommodate law breakers will not work. This is why the GOP is failing so miserably. Too bad congress does not have to compete with them (illegals)

    • 2formetoo

There needs to be a GOP leadership change in the HOUSE, this one is too pro-business, pro-alien workers while US citizens go jobless!!! If they pull this fast one on the American people, then the GOP deserves to go extinct!!!

I abandoned the RINO party and switched to Libertarian. The donkey and the elephant have left me disillusioned. The only difference I saw was one thinks he’s his brothers keeper. Save for that, both party’s are identical.

I saw this page on a google search and skimmed the comments and read this. It’s one of the claims that always annoys me. Yes, the Republicans have many many faults and in many ways, aren’t worthy of a vote at times. But the parties being identical? Nonsense. They’re both bad but in different ways.

The left is a party that does make some genuine attempts at consumer protection and worker’s rights, at times, but these are largely cynical populist posturing as they cut backroom deals with their own economic fascist oligarchs and introduce massive immigration to lower wages and living standards so they can get more votes and power from the new immigrants. They preach anti-racism and anti-sexism which has come to mean simply bashing white men.

The right are often in bed with the left for purely profitable reasons and love undocumented immigrants so they can make money and overlook the racism of the left directed at white males but they don’t seethe with hatred towards whites males that the left does.

Libertarians are mostly a party of pot smokers and motorcycle riders who don’t want to ride with helmets (when the motorcycle riders smoke pot and don’t ride with helmets, they tend to not be around long enough to vote. :-)

Your make some valid points. My point is that we have to try something other than the two party monopoly which got us into this mess.

If you don’t like Libertarian, then vote Constitution or Independent. My resolve is to never vote for the two party monopoly ever again. They both have the same corporate sponsors.

      The Democrats are doing worse…

  • 2formetoo

Sorry JOHN, but it is AMNESTY pure and simple no matter how you attempt to sugarcoat it!!!!

Boehner needs to stop Nobama’s shortage of visas so more people can come here legally

      • comeonreally?

right!, because we need more people here looking for jobs… I think we need to slow the immigration roll and toss those who have not followed the rules out… you enter many countries illegally your jailed or worse… here…. we give you medical coverage, and food and education and housing… all on the backs of our tax payers. This is a land of opportunity, not handouts…do the work (follow the rules) and opportunity will reward… don’t, and get thrown back out on your A$$

STOP ALL IMMIGRATION, LEGAL & ILLEGAL.
American taxpayers have been the “rich uncle” for too long. It’s one thing to be able to pay our bills while our tax dollars are being wasted but another when we have to take from our children (our obligations) so immigrants, legal or illegal, can come to our country, take our jobs, expect us to change our country into the 3rd world sewers they came from. And in the case of muslims accept allah in our justice systems and schools.
God save us from Obama & Boehner….

You use that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

An unsugarcoated display of amnesty definitions:

      dictionary.reference.com:
      1) a general pardon for offenses, especially political offenses, against a government, often granted before any trial or conviction.
      2) Law. an act of forgiveness for past offenses, especially to a class of persons as a whole.
      3) a forgetting or overlooking of any past offense.

      merriam-webster.com:
the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals

      vocabulary.com:
Amnesty can mean a pardon for a wrongdoing, or it can also signal a government’s willingness to overlook something.
Amnesty to illegal aliens means the government will deliberately overlook their illegal entry to the country.

      oxforddictionaries.com:
An undertaking by the authorities to take no action against specified offenses or offenders during a fixed period

      thefreedictionary.com:
      1) A general pardon granted by a government, especially for political offenses
      2) a period during which a law is suspended to allow offenders to admit their crime without fear of prosecution
      3) law a pardon granted by the Crown or Executive and effected by statute

      legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com:
The action of a government by which all persons or certain groups of persons who have committed a criminal offense—usually of a political nature that threatens the sovereignty of the government (such as sedition or treason)—are granted Immunity from prosecution.

Note that your use of the word “amnesty fails to match any dictionary’s definition.

      Try again.

Just so you know, the conditions of the reform bill state that illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. before December 31, 2011, are to apply for temporary legal status. Full amnesty will not be offered. A ten-year waiting period, wrapped with restrictions and fees, will be set in place before full citizenship is granted.

This in no way resembles “amnesty”.

      Oh, and by the way:

“I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here even though sometime back they may have entered illegally (my emphasis).”
      -Ronald Reagan 10/28/1984

“No matter how decent they are, no matter their reasons, the 11 million who broke these law should be held accountable.”
      -Barack Obama July 2010

    - Hardly a ringing endorsement of Boehner’s amnesty proposal.

Rumor is Boehner expects to retire soon so I feel sure he is selling out our country so he can get some cushy lobbying job….he should be crucified!
