Updated 2:20 p.m. | Speaker John A. Boehner said Thursday it’s up to the White House to make a new proposal before he’ll consider an unemployment benefits extension, as the House left town for two weeks without acting on a bipartisan Senate bill.

The Senate’s passage of an unemployment benefits extension earlier this week doesn’t change the House’s stand on the issue, the Ohio Republican said Thursday morning.

Boehner said he had made it clear to the president in December that an unemployment insurance extension would “have to be paid for and would have to include things that would help get our economy moving.”

“They have not put forward anything with regard to how we would create more jobs,” Boehner said. “And so the ball’s still in their court.”

Asked what package might persuade him to bring an extension to the floor for a vote, Boehner said, “You’ll have to ask the administration,” again blaming the White House for not coming forward with a jobs proposal.

A senior administration official said earlier this week that the administration would be willing to engage in constructive talks with Republicans on the issue but would not be subject to a hostage negotiation.

The Senate this week approved a bipartisan extension, with six Republicans joining all Democrats present to clear the measure, but House Republicans ignored the bill and left town.

Some senior Republicans have suggested adding a compromise on job training programs or business tax cuts to the extension after the spring break.

Ways and Means Republicans this week contended in a blog post that an unemployment extension won’t create jobs.

Steven T. Dennis contributed to this report.

well, guess I have to tell my kids we are now officially homeless and they most likely wont be able to eat till I can find them a safe place for them to stay. The hardest part is going to have to tell my fiancé who is completely disabled that everything we had is now gone. Boehner you try living in a car with no gas, food, hope or dignity with your children and your love of your life who is dying and see if you can look them in the eye (or anyone for that matter). telling them it will be alright wont work now because even my 10 year old knows what’s coming. we walk with jesus and things happen for a reason, who do you walk with?

The White House should have signed an “Executive Order” back in Dec! Obama bragged about the power of his pen, now make good meaningful use of it!!

      • Raylusk

Obama can’t sign an executive order extending UI.

        • Angela Owens

          Yes he can.

          • Raylusk

No he can’t. You don’t know what you are talking about. He can’t spend money that isn’t budgeted for.

          • Maria Cardoso

            Correct Raylusk. He can’t.

          • flycatcher

            Yes…he can…he just has to declare a State of emergency…he threatened to do so years ago on EUC if Congress didn’t extend..they did..he didn’t…BUT…WHY ISN”T OBAMA ISSUING A NATIONAL EMERGENCY???….Hmmm….Hmm…well??..there isn’t one!!…..says a lot..

          • K.D.

Hmmm…Well??? SKlay your about as sharp as a marble!

          • flycatcher

            Yes…he can.he just has to declare a State of emergency…he threatened to do so years ago on EUC if Congress didn’t extend..they did..he didn’t…BUT…WHY ISN”T OBAMA ISSUING A NATIONAL EMERGENCY???….Hmmm….Hmm…well??..there isn’t one!!…..says a lot..

          • kasia54

No he can’t. He can’t order money spent that isn’t in the budget.

          • Elizabeth

No he cannot. Extending expired benefits would mean making new law and executive orders can only be used to clarify laws passed or to ensure laws are carried out. The President would have helped all of us months ago if he could have. I honestly don’t know how Boehner and his cronies sleep at night.

      • Angela Owens

Everyone needs to call and email Obama and demand he use his pen to issue an executive order to immediately restore emergency UI benefits, because drunkard Boehner will never budge until Obama and Democrats agree to approve the Keystone Pipeline.

Obama can’t sign it. If he could, he would have done so. This is the one thing he can’t do by law. BOEHNER AND HIS CRONIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PUTTING AMERICA IN POVERTY. HE WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS A HATED MAN.

    • Angela Owens

It’s quite tragic that anyone has ever believed the propaganda that any government gives a damn about the well-being of it’s tax payers. All people under any government rule is screwed. It is no accident that the U.S. government is short by an estimated 8 million jobs, and that approval of emergency UI has been dragging on for almost 4 months. Even if emergency UI was approved at the end of April, which it won’t, it would be too late for the 2 million people who lost benefits at the end of December. It makes me physically nauseous to hear an anebriated, John Boehner make excuses like “it would be too difficult to pay retroactive benefits,” and “we won’t be able to locate many of the unemployed who lost their benefits.” Yeah, thanks to him causing the outrageous delay in approval of emergency UI benefits, the systems will be backlogged, and many people will living on the streets. The harsh reality is that there are NO JOBS, and there is NO INCOME to ensure survival of an estimated 3 million and growing, long term unemployed, and millions of children. Everyone must call and email Obama to demand he issues an executive order to immediately restore emergency UI benefits.

      • kasia54

OBAMA CANNOT ISSUE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER TO RESTORE EXTENDED UI. Research this, please. Thank you.

        • Angela Owens

The pay-for options have already been laid out by the Senate. The funds are there. And, considering the multi-trillion dollar deficit, when has the obstacle of “no money” ever been an issue?

          • kasia54

He still can’t issue an Executive Order to restore UI. He can only sign a bill passed through Congress.

          • Angela Owens
          • kasia54

Yes, I watched the State of the Union – Obama STILL CANNOT ISSUE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER TO RESTORE UI -http://jobsearch.about.com/b/2014/04/10/unemployment-extension-2014.htm

Very unintelligent person, you are…read above reply ot your know-it-all post…and a huge bigot, too….I see you like calling people ‘racists”…and…you know this, how??….

          • flycatcher

He can issue an executive order..he has to declare state of emergency first….I don’t feel your pitiful world is a national emergency…why doesn’t Obama issue one??..says a lot..you really, really don’t have a clue about anything..including the keystone pipeline…very, very ignorant person…and a bigot too, I see..

    • kasia54

Boehner does not give a crap. But neither do the Democrats. If Boehner indeed did tell Obama that he wanted all those add ons to an extended unemployment bill back in December, why did it take so long for the Senate to come up with something? Don’t get me wrong, I hate Boehner – who else gets six figures to drink on the job and slacks off and can boast job security? Harry Reid knew the score in December. He didn’t put the extension in the budget so I call Harry the cause of all of this heartache, loss and pain. But Boehner can certainly speed aid to hurting Americans if he wanted to. I’d love to wish something really nasty onto this bunch of no-goodnicks, but what you wish on others comes back 10-fold. So I’ll refrain and let the universe take care of this bunch.

    • donna

The saddest part of you post is that it will cost taxpayers more to care for you and your family when you are homeless than the cost of unemployment. 40K a year for homelessness versus $15k for unemployment.
Job Bills? Again Boehner and his buddies are after more tax cuts, deregulation of environmental laws and elimination of consumer protections. He would have us believe that if we just trust big business to do the right thing by us, they will create jobs. Seriously? http://www.speaker.gov/general/no-pivot-necessary-republicans-consistently-focused-jobs.
Mr. Eric, call your congressman or better yet, go visit him or her. We need to
move this issue from the abstract and help our “representatives” realize
we are human beings with families, bills and dreams of something
      better. We are not pawns.

  • richard

So let me get this straight, Boehner says there needs to be a plan in place to create jobs before he will consider the bill. Which means that he agrees there are not enough employment opportunities for those who have been unemployed for over 6 months, correct? So therefore his reasoning is let’s not help the folks who are on the brink of poverty, losing their homes and trying to feed their children because there are not enough jobs. Are you freaking kidding me, what kind of convoluted thinking is that? Really, pass the buck, blame the White House and then leave for a two week Easter break! Un-Fricken-Believable!

    • TJ

It’s hostage taking once again. He’s going to starve the unemployed and their children and put their homes inn jeopardy unless and until the President gives him what he wants. No different from the shutdown and taking the full faith and credit of the united states as hostage. If someone from a foreign country said they were going to do the things the Republican party has done unless the president meets their demands we would call them terrorists. I have no problem pointing out that they are now threatening to starve children unless the president gives them exactly what they want. That’s terrorism. They are terrorists.

      • honeyc

other countries are laughing at us and have been, they see what is going on better than americans

        • Angela Owens

They knew that one day the bubble would burst. Unfortunately, U.S. citizens did not, and as a result, were unprepared.

      • Angela Owens

        You’re absolutely correct.

      • Elizabeth

        Well said TJ!

      • erick

Servants of the wall street financial terrorists.

    • honeyc

exactly because they do not care what happens to us, we are basically turning into a poverty country and they know it !! It is the taking down of america and it has been going on for about 100 years

    • ambermozz

That is it in a nut shell. It is sad isn’t it. The unemployment that is paid out would stimulate the economy and create jobs so his whole argument is invalid.

    • Angela Owens

Boehner’s a drunkard, what do you expect.

    • Marsha Kabel

      agreed!! Thanks Bonehead…signed, Homeless…

    • kasia54

      He’s a drunk. That’s drunken economics.

  • DJMiles

All this could have been avoided last Thursday when nearly every Republican in the Senate agreed to pass unemployment if the job creation amendment was attached.Phase 4 of keystone, medical device tax and tax breaks for businesses….would have been passed on Monday by the house however that would not give house Democrats a opportunity to use the unemployed for some votes in Nov.For the next 18 days House Democrats up for reelection will run TV ads in their districts claiming how the Republicans are against the unemployed
In a attempt to gain some would be Republican voters.Good news is unemployment will be extended it’s only a matter of when.If house Democrats see the same success Senate Democrats had using the unemployed then they will drag it out as long as they could but eventually the Democrats will attach the job creation measures the Republicans have been demanding for months and the bill will be passed however due to the amount of time the program has been stopped Retroactive payments will not be part of the final deal witch will make any chance of people catching up impossible.

    • Raylusk

You conservatives are disgusting. Always blame someone else for your failures. Never take any responsibility. What they proposes wasn’t a jobs bill. Keystone won’t create the jobs you conservatives claim even the company that wants to build it says it won’t but you just keep lying about how it will. The medical device tax is just another attack on the ACA and doesn’t belong in the bill. There is no proof that another tax cut will create any jobs. In fact the CBO has been saying since December the failure to extend unemployement insurance costs jobs. The GOP originally said that a bill would have to be paid for despite the fact that has been a demand that has never been made in the past. So democrats in January proposed a bill that was paid for but the GOP said no because they didn’t like how it was paid for and called it a false savings. Then a month later they used that exact same pay for to fix the military pension issue that they just voted for in January. They then said a jobs bill would have to be attached. The GOP keeps changing the rules. They are solely to blame for this. Get a clue.

      • TJ

Not to mention they could have passed the three month bill then we could have discussed all this other crap during that time while people were still receiving benefits. They are literally starving people in order to get their way. Much like holding the faith and credit of the united states hostage before. People have to stop voting for these terrorists.

        • Raylusk

Exactly right. If the right wing voters don’t wise up the conservative politians will keep hurting our country.

          • Angela Owens

People need to stop using the word “our country.” This country was sold out to other countries, and those other countries will soon exercise their right of ownership to oust us from the country we so naively believe is “ours.”

        • Ray

Let me help you out. Democrats and Republicans have ZERO interest in extending Federal Unemployment Benefits. You’ve been had by both parties.
Enjoy your PAID vacations and Platinum (non-ObamaCare) Health Insurance House Democrats!!

          • DJMiles

You seem to be against insurance Ray or are you just really bored and have no life? This problem isn’t the best place for you to express your hate of insurance instead you should visit your local hospital and criticize the patients for costing their insurance companies money…. let’s not forget about those low life’s that file claims with their car insurance company when someone hits their car….they should just go buy a new one not cost the insurance company some of their profits.

          • Angela Owens

Free or low cost medical insurance won’t ensure one’s good health. Try growing your own organic fruit and vegetables and go vegan if the government will let you.

          • Raylusk

Except Democrats passed a bill for UI extension while the body controlled by the GOP has done absolutely nothing accept say its up to Obama to propose something. You are clueless.

          • Angela Owens

This is a game of volleyball that appears to be played for the benefit of the American people.

          • Raylusk

No it’s a game of the GOP does give a crap about Americans.

          • kasia54

Um, Raylusk, you are very eloquent, but not really getting the point that the Dems are PLAYING US to make us THINK they are for the extension. They are not. They would have attached it to the budget. It’s a good piece of real estate for them to lob and use for political gain. They are managing to brainwash a few, aren’t they? Slick.

          • Raylusk

I’ll repeat the democrats passed a bill extending unemployment insurance. That’s proof they are for it. Now quit with your crap and your lies. You are the one brainwashed by your Fox News masters.

          • honeyc

so right cause none of them got any nuts

          • Angela Owens

It has nothing to do with courage. Those who are wrong, don’t care about what’s right.

          • Angela Owens

If you live in the U.S., you’re screwed too.

        • Angela Owens

Job creation, job training, and assistance with job placement needed to start happening back in 2008 to prepare for the expiration of emergency UI benefits that took place on December 28, 2013.

      • DJMiles

What are you talking about? Who is a conservative? I’ve always voted Democrat and don’t like Republicans but that don’t change the fact that the unemployed have been used for political gain…Go read a few news articles it’s not a secret that the Democrats strategy this election year is to try and gain some Would be Republican voters by using issues that affect mass amounts of people those are the unemployed,Equal pay,Veteran’s,Min wage and Immigration Reform. Also read about the Republican counter offers on February 6th where 12 Republicans would have voted yes for unemployment if they could have 1 amendment to attach the Veteran’s COLA fix to the bill….Democrats rejected their offer and COLA passed 4 days later 93-03.Its people like you that are the reason we been waiting 4 months for this extension because rather then holding both parties responsible you are doing exactly what Democrats want people to do…. When you finally come to reality you may also realize that their would be no bill in the house today if the 5 Senate Republicans didn’t get tired of the political game and author their own 5 month extension that was passed on Monday….Lastly I could care less if Keystone creates a single job because eventually it’s going to be approved by Congress anyway that is A guarantee (they already built phase 1,2 and 3 they certainly will approve phase 4 ) so if it means that passing it now will allow unemployment to pass then I’m all for it.

        • Raylusk

You betrayed your true political leanings by only attacking the democrats and making them entirely responsible for an extension not passing. So quit lying and admit you are a conservative. If you were really a democrat you would have at least blamed both parties in your original comment and you didn’t. Only when you are called out on the ridiculousness of your position to you now claim you aren’t conservative and try and do damage control. I’m not buying it and I don’t think most people will.

There was no counter offer from Republicans to tie the COLA fix to the UI extension. It was actually Democrat proposals to try and entice Republican votes. When it became obvious that it wasn’t going to happen they went ahead with a vote on the UI extension with out the COLA fix knowing that it would be dealt with as a stand alone bill. Which is exactly what later happened.

There is no guarantee that keystone will be finished. The reason republicans are desperate to tie keystone to another must pass bill is because they want to make sure Obama can’t veto it. You are allowing yourself to be lied to and deceived. It’s not the Democrats playing games with the unemployed it’s the Republicans. As long as you and other conservatives allow the Republicans to shift the blame for their failure you are enabling them.

One final thought. If the UI extension issue was important to Republicans, then why hasn’t the GOP controlled House passed an extension that includes their priorities?

          • DJMiles

You are so lost….yes their were 2 Republican counter offers on February 5th One a 3 month extension the other a 6 month both paid for the same way Democrats proposed both having COLA attached maybe Google it and read about them before you post on here…And your wrong I have been blaming both parties since January I’ve posted dozens of times since then telling people do not only call the Republicans call and email both parties and demand they extend unemployment just like the veterans did and as you saw they got COLA repealed. I call and email Boehner and House Republicans every day because now that it’s passed the Senate and in the chamber that that control they are the ones we need to contact and in the house I currently am holding only them Responsible since they are the majority and in control…
I don’t think your understanding my point I do not care who you vote for in November or what party you like better but if you want unemployment extended then people need to come to reality that what we been doing is not working….it’s been 4 months now and I doubt anyone wants this to go for another 4 months so it’s time to put your political views aside and we need to demand that all our elected officials including the president do whatever they gotta do to get it passed.

          • Raylusk

I googled it before and found no such thing. Post links.

I find it peculiar though that despite the Senate GOP filibustering UI Extension FOUR times and the House GOP not even offering legislation to extend UI that you still blame both parties. The Democrats still got legislation done despite four filibusters while the House GOP does nothing. If that doesn’t show you it’s the GOP who is at fault here then I guess you get what you deserve. When you don’t hold the right people accountable and allow yourself to be distracted by conservative talking points this is what you get. I guarantee you if every unemployed conservative called their Senator and Rep and said I’m voting in 2014 and if you don’t pass UI extension by the end of January with out a bunch of crap thrown in there I will vote against you it would have passed. But instead they decided it was the Democrats fault or the fault of the lazy people who are unemployed. You fell for it hook, line and sinker and this is exactly why we can’t get congress to act. Wise up or continue with out benefits it’s as simple as that.

          • DJMiles

What your not understanding is the Senate Democrats had many opportunities to get this passed and never used a single one of them. When Congress left for Christmas Harry Reid said first priority when they return will be unemployment and they will hold the farm bill as ransom to force Republicans on extending unemployment of course that never happened and Democrats voted with Republicans to pass the $900 billion dollar farm bill never pressing to attach unemployment to the bill or denying vote on it without extending unemployment. Next was COLA as explained before then In March the Democrats again proposed a 6 month extension using savings from the farm bill knowing that the house has rejected using those savings on a dozen bills already and again blocking off all debate on the bill.let me ask you this what is wrong with a ammendment to eliminate people from collecting disability and unemployment at the same time? I see nothing wrong with it and would have passed the bill months ago.Finnaly on March 10th Republicans authored their own extension leaving Democrats stuck since the obviously couldn’t oppose it and it had 5 Republican sponsors meaning it was guaranteed to pass so I ask you why did it take over 3 weeks to vote on it? Why not just pass it weeks ago and allow time for the house to either ammend it with their priority s added then send it back to the Senate long before the 2 week vacation or reject it and do nothing but giving people time to pressure them into doing something….Instead Harry Reid just kept saying we will vote on unemployment soon and finally did it on Monday night 3 days before vacation.
I could go on forever but the point is the Democrats in the Senate used the unemployed for political gain and Obama was no better he did nothing at all to pressure either party.as far as the House is concerned I currently only blame the Republicans and will continue to blame them until they take it upon themselves to attach what the want to the bill and hold a vote.

          • Raylusk

Look I’m sick and tired of you. Quit blaming the democrats or you get exactly what you deserve. Which is no extension. The Democrats tried to pass an extension in January and February but it was filibustered both times. There were absolutely no excuse for those filibusters. It’s the GOPs fault and idiots like you are letting them get away with it. Piss off you get what you deserve.

          • kasia54

The Dems want you to THINK they tried — and it’s working!

          • Johnny Medina

if Republicans really cared about passing unemployment, why are the bills filibustered? If everyone agrees that unemployment needs to be extended, why not just pass a clean bill that isn’t paid for and be done with it. They didn’t have a problem passing a one billion dollar aid package to Ukraine without being paid for. Republicans didn’t have a problem extending unemployment and stimulus bills when BUSH was in the Whitehouse. Why is it that now that we have a Democratic President, all of this has to be paid for? Everyone knows that it is heartless to leave the unemployed blowing in the wind. The fact that republicans even filibustered it shows me how they think? But then again, they filibuster EVERYTHING, don’t they?

The reason is because in December Democrats did not include Extending unemployment in the Budget like it was previously years with the exception of 2010 when they used the same strategy as this election year. Both parties inserted all their priorities into the budget deal and unemployment was not a priority for the Democrats meaning that it would have to be voted on and paid for by cutting something elsewhere. I had never said all Republicans want unemployment extended their are some that believe the program should end.The reason the bills were blocked was because Democrats did not want them to be passed. The bills were paid for using ways Republicans opposed and we’re not debatable and if you look at the history of any bill passed you would See that no bills pass if they can’t be debated.Currently the unemployment bill sits in the house and will not be voted on because the Senate sent over a bill knowing for months that the house had said for months it must contain something that creates jobs witch the Democrats know theirs 46 Jobs bill that passed the house and never brought up for vote in the Senate I’m sure they are not all good bills but I do know some of them had a lot of house Democrats support so finding 1 of them to attach should have been easy.It now comes down to the Democrats again because the Senate Bill in its current form will not be voted on so Obama or the Senate Democrats need to talk with Boehner and do what it takes to get it passed.if that means approving phase 4 of keystone then let’s approve it since it’s going to be approved anyway just like phases 1,2 and 3 were

          • kasia54

Don’t people get that the Dems passed a bill that was dead in the House? Why would they do that if they wanted it passed? Wake up, people! Yes, the GOP are cold and greedy, but the Dems are slick and slimey.

          • Johnny Medina

if Republicans wanted to get things passed, they could work with house democrats and put in things that both parties will agree to. The simple fact is this, and I believe this wholeheartedly. Republicans do NOT want to see Obama get ANYTHING done. If they can keep unemployment high while he is president, they will and forget the people. They just want his term(s) as president to be utter failures. The problem is that that is not happening. When all is said and done and the dust settles, I think the American people will know that Obama and the democrats did what they could and Republicans did their best to try and thwart progress. But we wont see a republican president for at LEAST the next ten years because of their shenanigans.

          • DJMiles

I agree that house Republicans should w ork with House Democrats and get something passed…I also believe that if the Republican leaders would just allow vote on the bill it would just narrowly pass and that’s why John Boehner won’t allow it to be voted on.Republicans are not good I’ve said that 1000 times and Boehner should be forced to step down from office. As far as blaming them for Obama 5 1/2 failed years that we cannot do since for many years Democrats controlled both chambers and Things were even worse then they are now.Obama has been a joke he destroyed banking and credit cards with the credit reform act,Gas has been 96% higher then under bush, inflation At a higher rate the last 4 presidents combined, lowest work force participation rate since WW2 54% The list goes on…..The fact is its been 5 1/2 years of excuses he blamed bush the fist 3 even tho he took office with a unemployment rate of 5.2% and up to 10.9 (Over 35% counting those no longer being counted) the last 2 1/2 blaming Congress …..Bill Clinton had a Congress with both chambers controller by Republicans for years and we’re even trying to impeach him but things still got done and the country was in great shape. ..
I’m a Democrat myself and would vote for Hillary if she runs so trust me I’m not a Republican on here bashing the Democrats…..Americans are easily persuade by the lies of our president and Congress but trust me a few years from now everyone will look back and Obama will be remembered as the worst disaster to hit the US.

          • Johnny Medina

I really doubt that….I think the healthcare law will be in full effect…close to 15 or 20 million people will have signed up for it and everyone will be saying keep your government hands off my obamacare or whatever they call it then. There are people in kentucky right now, using KYNECT who think it is great but say they do not like Obamacare and they are too dumb to realize that that is what Obamacare is…..

          • DJMiles

It’s much to soon to say if Obama care will turn out to be good or further ruin our economy since employers do not have to cover employees yet.So far it seems to be a good thing for some and bad for others…For people on welfare or who are older they should benefit people my age it’s not good since it doubled the rates insurance cost before Obama care. What we need to worry about is when employers have to cover the cost for employee’s how much is that going to raise the prices we pay for everything we buy because We can’t afford Obama the way it is….What scares me is if Obama care is good then why did he allow over 1000 companies he’s friendly with opt out?
Right now theirs so much bad he’s done that affects my life so I try to only worry about that stuff

          • TJ

Dude just stop. Murray tried to include the bill in the omnibus package Pelosi even pressured the house. The deal would have blown up over the extension.

          • DJMiles

That’s far from the truth if fact dozens of Senate Republicans stated in January when Congress returned that they were shocked that the Democrats didn’t include unemployment in the budget deal since both parties stuffed it with all their priorities. …In fact their has been 100′s on news articles all telling the story that Democrats left it out of the budget in order to be able to use it as a campaign issue.

          • kasia54

            ^^ this ^^

          • kasia54

But why would the Senate pass something they KNEW DAMN WELL wouldn’t get a vote in the House?

          • jay

Your a idiot, plain and simple. Shut your mouth

          • Debaser

You may want to figure out the difference between “your” and “you’re” if you are going to go around calling people idiots.

          • TJ

Some people will just never learn. If there were a democratic controllled house or even a Republican with the guts to stand up to the tea party and do what’s right by calling a vote this would have been done in December. Don’t know how anyone could be too stupid to realize that and say it’s “both parties”

          • kasia54

Harry never included it in the budget so yeah, it’s the Dems, too. So much misinformation out there and the Dems are getting their way — demonizing the GOP — which, they SHOULD be demonized — they are worse than dictators. But I digress. Had the Dems wanted this from the start, it would have been part of the budget. They are both playing games with the unemployed for political gain.

          • Johnny Medina

I dont think republicans would have approved a budget with an unemployment extension in it. In 2010, we had to keep an extension of the Bush tax cuts in order to get unemployment passed.

          • Debaser

I was also unable to find anything substantiate your claims on these two counter offers. Please post links, as I would truly like to see what you are talking about.

          • TJ

            FALSE! REPUBLICANS HAVE PROPOSED NOTHING>

          • DJMiles

NOTHING? So this 5 month extension must have just been found laying on the floor? You should learn to read just 1 news story before posting your thoughts. The 5 month extension was authored by Dean Heller and Robert Portman on March 10th 2014….The reason they wrote their own bill was because the Democrats were about to bring another Un pass able 6 month extension up for vote that was going to be paid for using savings from the farm bill knowing that House Republican leaders have made clear on previous house bills that the farm bill savings could not be used to fund any legislation. The Republican 5 month extension that recently passed the Senate had the support of many other Republicans when first drafted however Democrats demanded that the clause to eliminate people from collecting EUC and Disability at the same time be removed from the bill (would have covered 5.8 Billion of the cost) so it lost some support but still had 5 Co sponsors guaranteeing it’s passage.Ofcourse Democrats waited 3 1/2 weeks to allow a vote on the bill perfect timing since the house started a 2 week vacation 3 days later.
Anyway you believe what you want and praise the Democrats as much as you like eventually you will probably come to realize that it’s been 4 months since the Democrats left this extension out of the budget and has gotten nowhere they now have yet another opportunity to work out a compromise with the House to get it passed but so far have made no attempts this week so I guess we will see if they decide to do something when the return in 19 days.

          • TJ

LOL you clearly don’t know how congress works. That is not a Bill that is a reworking of the 3 month proposal that is not a separate bill. They are taking the clean bill and ADDING provisions that would bring Portman and Kirk onboard. The 5 month extension was a reduction from the six month in order to get portman and kirk to vote for cloture. That’s not coming up with a proposal that’s adding conditions to the bill you’re holding up in filibuster.

          • DJMiles

Go read up on it then reply because you clearly are clueless …..Obviously your not unemployed or you would know where this 5 month extension came from.

          • kasia54

Why should they? They don’t want this — they want the program to end — its “immoral” and “paying lazy people to not work.” If the Dems wanted this passed, it would have been included in the budget. Sheeple.

          • erick

The republicans have proposed repealing Obama care and replacing it with faith based health care Pray that you do not get sick, because if you get sick you will die..

          • kasia54

For sure we need to hold these ELECTED OFFICIALS (that leaves GOPers out — they got in through gerrymandering) accountable ~ we’re letting our government rule us. This is akin to treason.

      • Angela Owens

And, Obama and the Democrats know this, and yet do nothing to force the issue.

        • Raylusk

What should the do Angela? Four attempts in the Senate to pass UI and four GOP filibusters. Absolutely no action in the House. But despite this you have people like you and DJMiles blaming the Democrats. And once again this cannot be dealt with by executive order. It requires money to be budgeted and Obama can’t budget money by EO. So don’t use that excuse. So what should Obama and the Democrats do?

      • kasia54

No, actually Harry didn’t budget for it because he knew he could demonize the Republicans and use it to the Dem’s advantage for November’s mid-terms. It’s pretty obvious to me. Boehner asked for the measures in DECEMBER — it’s MID-APRIL — Dem’s have been stalling it. Yes, the GOP used pension smoothing a month later to pay for another bill, that’s true but we don’t know all the behind the scene details and believe me, there are ALWAYS behind the scene details. Harry and Boehner dine together, just saying.

        • Raylusk

Quit your damn lying. The Democrat bill in January for UI extension paid for itself by extending the sequester on Medicare by one more year. The Senate GOP filibustered it because they said it wasn’t a real pay for so it didn’t get passed. Then for the military pension COLA, those same republicans voted to the extension of the Medicare sequester by one year. The same extension they rejected in January for the UI extension. This isn’t open for debate it is factual and exactly what happened. If you claim anything else then you are a liar.

Pension smoothing didn’t actually get used until March and it’s to finally pay for UI extension. Even though Democrats finally got enough votes to overcome a GOP filibuster not a single Republican voted for the UI extension.

By the way Boehner should be the one moving UI extension forward. Boehner says any bill must be paid for and must have job provisions in it. If he know what he wants then he should bring a bill forward with exactly what he wants.

Again it’s the GOP that has held up the extension of UI. The Democrats tried as early as January and the GOP said no. Get a clue and quit with the lies.

    • honeyc

smoke/mirrors, and everyone points the finger except they know what is going on……in a big useless circle…..be prepared our so called president bows to putin i am telling you

    • Angela Owens

If Obama does not issue an executive order to immediately restore emergency UI benefits, both Democrats and Republicans will lose come election time.

  • TJ

You’re going to make the unemployed suffer because the leader of the free world won’t do what you say? What?

    • kasia54

      One too many scotch rocks.

  • ANTI-republican

it must be nice all the politicians get to go on a fun vacation an have a great holiday while all of the unemployed suffer, scramble for help, trying to figure out how they are going to live and survive till the jobs we applied for never call us. shake my head. i just hope everyone who voted or votes for republicans now sees every reason not to support those fat elephants. if in no way the republican politicians can not benefit from a bill they will not pass it…….who cares about the citizens that it effects, who cares who suffers, as long as me an my family is alright, what matters (republicans perspective). so sad!!!!! thanks everyone who voted for republicans…… thanks,

  • Ray

Anyone with half a brain knows this was dead December 26th, 2013. There are over 4 MILLION jobs available and INFINITE small business opportunities. Looking to the Feds to increase what was already once 99 WEEKS of unemployment and has cost over $600,000,000,000 is laughable.
Thankfully we have a republican controlled house! Senate soon after the mid-terms. Democratic president now and after 2016. A perfect govt.

    • Raylusk

It won’t increase the 99 weeks. Plus it’s not 99 weeks now it’s been cut to 72 weeks. It’s ignorant fools like you that shouldn’t be allowed with in a mile of a voting booth.

      • Ray

It’s been 0 since December. Get a job.

        • Raylusk

I sure made a fool of you and this is the best you can do. I’m laughing at your stupidity little man.

What country you reside in? I’m America we have a shortage of jobs it’s so bad that only 54% of working age citizens are currently employed. Here in America our unemployment don’t go up to 99 weeks only 41 in most states witch really is not enough considering the severity of the Recession were in however since our Congress has been slow to act those who list their jobs have had only 26 weeks.I expect soon tho that they will pass this much needed extension giving us victims of this Recession up to 41 weeks to find any available job even if it’s at a much lower pay then we were making.Odds are against us considering their only 1 available position for every 5 applicants but that won’t stop us from trying. And I agree 600 billion is laughable considering that has helped millions of victims from 2008 to 2014 it seems like such a small figure when you consider the cost of most legislation passed by congress.Lets take the farm bill for example $900,000,000,000 and I guarantee you won’t find a single person that could tell you what the farm bill even is.

    • Steven Micheal

      Hey Ray,
You have a job for me?

  • Ray

Have a fantastic vacation Mr. Boehner! You earned it with this non-vote.
    Thank you!

  • Realist555

The GOP, tea party and Boehner are insane. They say there needs to be a job creation bill instead. What do they think it can happen overnight. That will take a lot of time to pen. This is just a game to them, the idiots think nothing of the troubles happening here on out soil, but they don’t even blink to pass allocate money to oil-rich nations. The GOP and tea-party are in it for the dough and nothing else. They need to vote on extension and stop being cowards. They are just afraid that they might not get what they want again just like the shutdown last year. They have no creativity, they have not created anything that helps US citizens. They only want to tear down our society and everything the Obama administration has worked so hard to achieve. They are yellow belly cowards and should be voted out of office ASAP. They are not for the American People, they are actually against us, unless you’re the 1% who are funding their campaigns. Disgusting moochers that’s all they are, they are lazy, they don’t want to do their work, and their high pay is a disincentive to them trying to do their jobs as lawmakers, which is what they were hired to do. VOTE THEM OUT.

  • The_Trumpet

The White House should have signed an “Executive Order” back in Dec! Obama bragged about the power of his pen, now make good meaningful use of it!

    • DJMiles

I don’t think that is possible since it’s a legislative issue but their is a lot he could have done but hasent.he has meet with Boehner several times over the last few months but never brought up extending unemployment. Obama is the top Democrat so if he wants unemployment to be extended their a lot he could do.If Boehner I wants phase 4 of the Keystone approved then he could easily have Senate Democrats attach that to the Extension or pass it as a stand alone bill.Maybe if people would take the time and write the white house and demand that Obama get more involved in order to get this bill passed we might have the extension by May regardless it can’t hurt to try .

      • Raylusk

Boy you just are bound and determined to make it someone else’s fault rather then the republicans. He Senate democrats passed a bill despite four filibusters by the GOP. The House GOP hasn’t even introduced any legislation to get a UI extension. Despite the obstruction and lack of legislation on the part of the Republicans now it’s Obama’s fault. You get what you deserve for not holding the republicans responsible.

        • DJMiles

I have no idea why everyone is still even concerned with who’s fault it was in the Senate since they are done with the bill at least for now.And as I’ve stated in every post in the house I blame the Republican leaders who are not allowing vote on this bill….I do not think they should hold it up waiting for a measure that creates jobs they should add whatever it is they want providing it’s reasonable and then hold the vote and send it back to the Senate for final approval. And yes I do hold Obama responsible for not doing enough it was him who stated in December the renewal of unemployment would be a top priority of his after Christmas vacation and so far has barley even mentioned it . Obviously he knows what Boehner wants since He says he’s been telling the white house since December so either give him it or tell us that unemployment is not going to be extended.least he could do is bring the issue up with Boehner in 1 of their last 10 meetings.

          • Raylusk

You just spin and spin. Down below you were the one that clearly wrote your concern about how it was the Democrats at fault in the Senate and in that post you never said you blamed the Republican leaders. Like a true conservative you are rewriting history. And once again it’s your fault and those like you that UI hasn’t been extended. As long as the GOP can get you to blame everyone then there is no consequence to them for what they have done. So keep defending the GOP (and yes I know you will protest that you aren’t but that’s a lie and everyone can see it) and the UI extension will never pass. And it’s all your fault and those like you. Pathetic.

  • HM Camroy

This man needs to brought up on charges. Holding all those people HOSTAGE (against the law) for something that can be done in another bill without hurting ALL these people and families. (class action for pain and suffering). If ANY ONE of these people affected by his actions. Die due to lack of heat or shelter and or starve to death he should be charged accordingly.

  • honeyc

It is called the “Reshaping of America” and their political lives depend on it and this goes straight up to the White House ….Obama promised change and this is it…now what you gonna do???

    • Raylusk

Obama can’t give change as long as idiot voters elect conservatives to congress.

  • honeyc

We hate you and they want unrest in the streets, even evil soros said he wants blood on the streets of america…now there you go and trust me there are a lot of evil people out there including buffet and gates and turner, etc

  • Angela Owens

It is unconscionable for the House of Representatives to leave for a 2 week recess before passing the emergency UI bill, and for responsibility for the survival of millions of long term unemployed and the economy to be assigned to an obviously and continuously anebriated, opportunist John Boehner and his crony Republican House members. If there were jobs, there would be no need for emergency UI. There are NO JOBS, and there’s been NO INCOME for 4 months now. The catastrophic consequences are inevitable. The only way to prevent the fallout to come which will affect EVERYONE, not just the long term unemployed, is for Obama to immediately issue an executive order, and move forward to oust and prosecute John Boehner and his cronies for treason.

    • erick

The republican party hates you and hates your way of life. The plan to kill you and your family in the class war.

  • MarineOutOfWork

nearly 3 million and rising every week…thanks for 35 years of work and 18 weeks (Ga) unemployment!

  • Angela Owens

And, Obama has the power of the pen and can issue an execute order to immediately restore emergency UI benefits, especially since he knows that the Republicans will be ousted from the Senate and House, and locally in every national jurisdiction throughout the U.S. come election time.

  • Honestly

Boehner should be asked to step down form his position in the House. He is behaving in an anti-american manner! When one man stands up and says he alone will be the voice of the people, preventing our full House of elected officials from having their say by voting, and preventing all the states from having an input through a vote, he is standing in the way of democracy. He is a disgrace to the Republican party for his behavior, and an embarrassment to us all.

  • Sue

That’s fine to want to create jobs but in the mean time people need MONEY!!! Boehner you are EVIL & could care less about anyone of us hard working American people!! I really wish YOU could be in some kind of hardship with NO MONEY!!! You couldn’t begin to know & understand what it’s like to lose your job & try looking for one. Instead you & some of the other Republicans think we don’t want to work. That is so stupid!! Any one with any sense would know that most people can earn more money if they have a job!! I really wish you could lose your “so called job” & your millions than you would know what it’s like. That is what YOU & SOME OF YOUR REPUBLICAN FRIENDS deserve!! I don’t know why I am writing this you will never read it.

  • erick

The only way the economy will start to improve is to THROW THE MONEY LENDERS OUT OF THE TEMPLE OF OUR SOCIETY. Pass Senate bill 1282 the “21st century Glass-Steagall Act of 2013, and House Resolution 129 the “Return to Prudent Banking Act of 2013″. This will separate legitimate commercial banking from speculative financial banking. A differential interest rate can be established at 3% for constructive economic activities and 22% for speculative gambling activities. Then we should prosecute the wall street criminals that caused this financial disaster. Federal letters of credit can be used to finance infrastructure construction projects instead of bailing out wall street derivative gambling side bets.

  • Larry king

Well it is all very clear now that John Boehner had no intention of doing the right thing for the American people. He does not deserve to be in office and we need to vote him out in November. How can he call himself a man of the people when he goes off on a 2-week vacation and leaves 3 million Americans and their families without the lifeline they need to keep a roof over their head? All I can say is this man has a black heart and only cares about what is going in his pocket. The only thing we can do is to make sure we all vote and get this idiot out of office in November.

    • erick

This just proves that the republican party hates you and hates your way of life. The working class are pawns to be played in their political chess game. They have no intention to improve the quality of life for the 99%.

  • Maria Cardoso

Well, I recommend that every single unemployed who lost benefits travel, even if my Greyhound bus, to Ohio and camp out in front of John Boehner’s home while he yet vacations again at home having great barbecues and drinking up as usual. It is clear it’s dirty politics for Boehner and he is only following the instructions of the Koch brothers and the favors to his political donors. The American people need to stand up by the millions, in marches, to this circus of the GOP and the string holders. If the people don’t stand up and do something about it, it is going to get worse. At 12:01 EST, that’s what time today John Boehner and the Republicans rammed through a vote on Paul Ryan’s horrendous budget.Today the house voted to pass Ryan’s budget that would replace Medicare,…[and] repeal the Affordable Care Act, taking coverage away from millions, while slashing Medicaid” — and raise taxes on the middle class to pay for $200,000 tax break for millionaires and billionaires like the Koch brothers, cost the economy over 3,000,000 jobs and yet they talk about job creation measures to vote on unemployment extension. Pathetic.

  • Maria Cardoso

It is true that there is a hidden agenda to eliminate the middle class altogether and it has been happening for at least a decade now. Only thru major mass marches and demonstrations can we bring about change as our voices are heard. Only by not re-electing the current members of Congress (mostly the radical tea party republicans’) can we possibly stand a chance. Today, the county of France passed a law making it illegally for its citizens to respond to work emails after 6pm. The work week in France is 37 hours a week and any hours past 37 hours the employer has to provide paid time off in its equivalent. France continues to pass laws that are focused on quality of life. In France there is free health care, and paternity/maternity leave for up to 1 year with a free nurse/nanny.

    • http://www.mcrdpi.marines.mil/ Leonard Lawrence

Maria: I agree with you about the hidden agenda to eliminate the middle class, but it has been going on for the last 30 years (Since the inauguration of Ronald Reagan as President in 1981), and it isn’t so “hidden” anymore.

  • Maria Cardoso

The fact remains that Boehner and his tea party jihadists have absolutely no care or concern over the voice of the people, his low approval rating even in his own state of Ohio, and the fact that over 80% of Americans support unemployment extension, is very scary. Because it clearly cleary evidences that his position and the seats of his groupies are secured and guaranteed by $$$$ from Koch and special interests. They have no worries or concerns over the voters or losing votes. It doesn’t matter because it will not affect them in the least. And, that is the message that needs to reach each and every single American in this country.

    • erick

John Boehner is holding millions of Americans hostage in order to serve the interests of his puppet masters-the Koch brothers. The Koch brothers will profit from the XL PIPELINE. Boehner is willing the starve and kill your entire family in order to serve his puppet masters. If he wished to help small business he would reduce small business taxation by imposing a tax on wall street derivative trading.

  • Jackie

As long as this is paid for Obama can sign an executive order :/ which they have shown a way to pay for it…

We the people took care of you, now you take care of us. I think that the day that our government started to let our children starve is the day that it was time for new government. Shame on you Boehner. How could you do this? I am 55 years old and I would rather be working, however I now have to listen to how you get another vacation for two weeks and there are people out there who honestly can’t feed the family and are losing homes, but wait you already showed everyone that you don’t care Have another drink and I hope you have a great Easter vacation.

  • Esther

Did you look at that face? That is a face of someone who really does not care about the American people. What they should of done is say everyone who voted yes can go on Easter vacation for two weeks ( by the way Easter was never a paid holiday anywhere I worked) but besides that any one who voted no stays and lets talk it out. That I am sure would get thing moving.

  • Esther

And what about all the money approved by all these Republicans to go to other country’s for whatever. I bet Boehner s vote was yes on any and all. Why are you doing this, do you really want out of office if so just resign. I would bet there is not a snowballs chance in hell now you are going to be reelected anyhow and I think you know it, How do you sleep at night knowing that there are children out there not eating, people losing there homes and cars and you go on a 2 week Easter vacation. Out of the 3+ million people out there suffering from this I am surprised there isn’t a crazy person that doesn’t try and hunt this guy down. At this point a lot of people don’t have anything to lose.

    • tom

Believe me people are going to if this bill doesn’t pass.

      • Caseyv

I don’t know Tom, I think if they wanted to pass it they would have already. Going on a two week vacation before passing this should put everyone over the edge. Boehner is just cancer to America

I know this is late but can you tell me what ham is.havent seen that in a while. and Im in danger of having my electric cut off . but I guess that doesn’t matter to Boehner his wife doesn’t have to go with out

  • Johnny Medina

LET THIS be a wake up call to any of you who voted REPUBLICAN and hopefully NOW you can see that Republicans do not CARE about anyone but themselves. They sure did have time to vote on the RYAN budget….oh and repealing Obamacare AGAIN. They could have been in negotiations for the last four months if they wanted an extension to pass. It is such a shame. People do not have money for gas, food, to pay their bills like their cell phone, electric, rent….and with their 174,000 dollar salaries which comes to 14,000 dollars a month……it makes me laugh to think that they care about people who make THAT in a year

  • readthis

John boehner is a demon! He enjoys the fact that over 3 million people are suffering. He needs to go back to hell with the rest of his buddies, he is pure evil like the rest of the ayn rand/ Crowley followers.

I would like to know if it is true that John Boehner is constant companion of Jack Daniels. He sure looks, thinks and acts like he is.

  • I Give Up!!!!!

This Video is a picture of a man who exhibits sociopathic tendencies. He lacks a sense of moral responsibility, social conscience and no empathy for his fellow Americans. When asked to pass this there are months of excuses and go ask Obama. All he says is I want this are that with no plan of his own. The senate has viewed 70 plus amendments to get the passing vote. John get your head out of your ass and quit playing!!!!!!!!! Do it for the Americans that your unresolved excuses are impacting minute by minute daily.

I wish we the unemployed had some type of action we could take against both the parties. I have always voted, never a straight ticket. Our govt is so out of touch, corrupt, etc that voting in the future seems a waste of time to me. I wish I could take a ball bat to those nuckel heads in DC. Guess, I’d better start loading my car up with my clothes.

  • barrnone

Searched Google and there are only two stories about this today and probably won’t be any tomorrow and the coming weeks. They are hoping this dies and voters won’t remember in November. If Obama doesn’t man-up and sign a executive order restoring these benefits we will know they are all in on this scam including the media.

    • k Lowe

if I hear one more dumb a** say something about Obama signing an executive order to extend unemployment I am going to scream. Some of you need to go back to college. The president can not sign an exciting e order to extend unemployment. The president can not spend money it must first go through a be approved by congress. Didnt you guys have to pass American Gov. To graduate high school. Stop saying that stupid sh***t. Its makes those who are saying sound dumb!

      • barrnone

I guess ranting and raving about something you obviously know nothing about is intelligent. The president can sign a executive order to manage agencies within the federal govt if the power is within the Constitution. Worse case scenario is the judicial would review it and tie up the extension even longer.

        • k Lowe

That may be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. He is the president not a dictator. It must first be approved by congress then he can sign it. The president can’t just spend money when he ever he wants. It is not how it works. There is nothing in the constitution saying the president can spend money anyway he please. I am both a college and law school graduate. That is not how it works. Call the republicans and put pressure on them and instead of posting stupid comments on here. You have no clue what you are talking about lol.

The government can finance constructive economic activity by taxing wall street trading activity in order to finance infrastructure construction. This will create millions of jobs rebuilding our decaying physical infrastructure. The nations water supply piping needs repair and replacement. Our roads and bridges are in need of repair. The national transportation infrastructure can become a system of 300 mile per hour, pollution free magnetic rail trains. This will open new areas to development and result in a more logical population distribution. This will create millions of high paid jobs and result in the worlds most efficient transportation system, thereby creating millions of new high paid jobs, and 50 years of prosperity.

  • erick

Why not pay for the unemployment benefit extension by imposing a tax on wall street trading transactions. That way the speculators that caused this economic disaster can help to pay for the problems that they caused by their irresponsible speculation.

  • Advocate

3Million without benefits with another 75,000 added every week.

This is unacceptable and Boehner needs to confront this immediately.

The house and senate take way to many breaks. maybe if they worked more this would be done. you are working for the people, remember. People are going in the hole on this extension. This should have been settled before the cut off date. Like waiting until your electric is shut off to pay the bill. You shut our electric off so to speak. Take care of the people. Stop trading debates and proposals. You give me this I will sign the bill. You don’t and I don’t. What kind of care are we getting from our representatives. You want job programs enacted before the extension. Has that worked yet anywhere. We want jobs as well, trust me. I pay more in health insurance than I make in unemployment. So much for obamacare. We need this settled now. How about we stop the checks to the house and senate until the extension is settled. That should be how we the people control our representatives. I bet the extension will be settled real quick. Let them do without a check for 15 weeks and see what happens. FIFTEEN WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!

  • AGGRAVATEDINOHIO

Stay involve in what’s going on don’t depend on the news or articles for updates. 1. The knew health reform “Obama care” there trying to take it out by 2015.
Why? Because they know that knew health reform is meant to help the American people take better care of them selfs by eating more natural foods. I blame the FDA administration for allowing the food industry to be controlled “By you know who”
That’s right the same ones that are controlling the game in the “house” the ones that don’t care about you and me. That’s why the hospitals are full of sick people
And guess who invest in all these hospitals “investors”

There will be a lot of changes soon
Wait to they start closing all the food industries you’ll be surprise that nothing in a grocery store is worth buying unless you grow it your self.

  • erick

John Boehner stated that he will not bring the senates unemployment bill to a vote unless the democrats find a way to pay for the cost of the program. Why did the congress approve 50 billion in tax breaks for corporations that outsource jobs with no consideration for paying for the cost of that program? To get the economy moving congress should use federal letters of credit to finance infrastructure construction. This would create millions of high paid jobs and create the worlds most efficient transportation infrastructure. Placing a tax on wall street trading activity will reduce the deficit and balance the budget. This will take some of the tax burden off small businesses and stimulate employment. However, I believe that Boehner is in the pocket of the wall street criminals, and the corporate criminals who are for all practical purposes ABOVE THE LAW.

  • Cheryl Thomas

Why are Eric Cantor and John Boehner being so cold about working with the President and the Senate to restore extended unemployment? Can the House come out with the issues that they are having with the President and then the President can resolve it? What evil lures in the hearts of these men? They can’t know God he would not lead them to do such things. Surely there is some way the House of Representatives can pull together with enough votes to force the speaker to allow the passage of the vote. They have to see that denying people money to feed their family because you “think” that they will lazy and not want to look for work. There will and always has been unemployed people. Companies move overseas with jobs everyday. How can the recently unemployed get jobs that the long term people can’t get? Also how can you throw everyone in the same pot and make such a broad statement like that? There are people who jobs they worked at for years. I think that leaders in the various states should come forward and compel the House of Representatives to approve this. I know that they have to receive letters from people in their states and cities asking for help with this. Also everyone can see the problem when (1) person like John Boehner has power to stop (millions of people from having money to finish caring for their family members). Remember everyone how we were treated and vote accordingly. We need people who will be in office and support us when we ask for their help. Don’t vote people into office because they promise to do something, put people in office who have done something about the job that they elected to do. The Senate and The House should never people full of one party but as equal amounts as possible so some results can happen. May God deal with these men and give them the compassion that need to have. May they also come across experiences where someone else has to decide something for them that is very important, and may that person or group of people choose the right choice for them as they see the way things should be. Walking one mile in in another person’s shoes will help. That’s my prayer.

  • Cheryl Thomas

If the President can declare a state of emergency he should do it (surprise) now why everyone out on vacation) That felt good to say if it can’t happen, thinking of someone other John Boehner and Eric Cantor using their power to scare the President, thinking about him using his power feels great.

  • YONATAN C

It’s now been almost five months, since the more than two million unemployed workers have been without unemployment benefits. Since late last December, when these families ran out of their benefits, they have been waiting and struggling patiently for the senate to pass the unemployment extension bill. However, due to the Republicans constant rejections and stalling tactics, the much needed bill has not yet been passed. While these politicians continued to play their ‘party politics”, these millions of families have had to face evictions, home foreclosures, personal bankruptcies, and homelessness. These workers have been destroyed financially and emotionally, and the Republican party is to blame for this, due to their reluctance to accept any of the proposals brought to them by the Democrats. Since the past several months, whenever the bill was to be discussed and voted upon, time and time again , the senate took another break or vacation, leaving these poor Americans hung out to dry a little longer waiting for help that doesn’t come. This was the first time in many years that the senate did not pass an extension bill. Their refusal this year to pass an extension bill can only be explained because of their deliberate and calculated plan to make the democrats, and particularly president Obama to look bad, and not be successful in the people’s eyes. These Republicans have shown us that their own political agenda is much more important to them than the needs of the people for whom they serve. While senators such as John Boehner expressed their concerns about fiscal responsibility , and budget concerns, the congress just has passed a foreign aid package worth Billions for the Ukraine. Why was this passed without much fanfare or debate, while poor unemployed families who are becoming more and more destitute with each more senate delay of the extension bill? Where are the Republicans “family values’ which they like to so often claim to be the party that represents family values? The Republicans will surely find out in the 2016 elections just how foolish their decision has been not to help these millions of workers.

    Unemployment
Extension 2014: Democrats Lose Interest In Extending Benefits Due To The
    Mid-Term Elections

    ·
    The 2014
unemployment extension is dead in the water with both
Republicans and Democrats trying to blame each other for allowing the
unemployment benefits bill passed by the Senate to expire in the House of
    Representatives.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, the original
unemployment extension bill would have extended benefits until June 1, 2014.
But since that date has passed even if a vote occurs on June 9, when congress
reconvenes, the 2014 unemployment extension bill would only pay a lump sum of retroactive
unemployment benefits through December 29, 2013. Because of this
    obvious problem some Republicans and
Democrats are working together to create a new unemployment extension bill
they hope will meet the demands of John Boehner.

Many reports have tried to blame the failure of the 2014
unemployment extension on congressional gridlock. But Christine L. Owens,
executive director of the National Employment Law Project, claims Republicans
    are primarily to blame:

“It is easy to chalk up this failure to Congressional gridlock,
but we should resist the urge to be so glib with the lives of those struggling
just to get by, who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. It is House
Republican leaders and not some indeterminate ‘gridlock’ who have chosen to run
out the clock on the Senate’s unemployment extension.”

Unfortunately, the unfair situation is largely due to the looming
2014 mid-term elections. The facts are that the expiration of the 2014
unemployment extension bill came as applications for unemployment benefits fell to a
seven-year low. While everyone talks about the unemployment rate
being 6.3 percent, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the country’s U-6
jobless rate (which is the real United States unemployment rate) for the
12 months ending in March is more than double at 13.4 percent. Pushing out the
unemployment extension to 99 weeks was also around double the rate at which
unemployment benefits have been allowed to expire in previous US economic
    recoveries.

Just take notes on how many billions we spend on stupid crap EVERYDAY!!! I can’t wish him enough bad and evil things. I don’t say this very often bit I HATE that man. I do not let our illustrious leader off the hook either!! He has a phone and a pen but cannot use them to help us unemployed. Not asking for unlimited money damn them both. Just what we are owed!!! Not one word on ANY news stations about the suffering almost 4 million long term unemployed!! WTF???? Those m f ‘ s live the big life and absolutely do not give a crap about any of us. The media is so stupid. I believe that Eric Cantor was not re-elected in a big part for his position on extending unemployment! !!:Has anyone anywhere said anything about the unemployed in his district. I wish we could all mobilize and keep writing, calling, texting and e mailing at least fox news. They are our only chance to get it mentioned on a newscast. Because without the unaffected being made aware of the hypocrisy in government vs pending we are just friggin out of luck and that sucks.
