As Republicans move ahead with plans to re-investigate the 2012 attack on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, Democrats will huddle Friday morning to discuss whether they will appoint members to sit on the proposed select committee.

The House is expected to vote on the creation of the panel Thursday, and Republicans — who have spearheaded this effort — are expected to name their appointees on Friday.

But Democrats have been grappling among themselves over whether the best move politically would be to boycott the committee entirely. They argue that it amounts to nothing more than a GOP election-year talking point, and say the committee is inherently designed to close Democrats out of the process because of its composition; Republicans will have seven members appointed by Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, and Democrats will be able to appoint five members.

At the same time, Democrats are concerned about the optics of not participating, and the ramifications of not being in the room when Republicans are hearing key testimony and issuing sensitive subpoenas.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is said to be inclined not to make appointments; Assistant Leader James E. Clyburn, D-S.C., told reporters earlier in the week that participation in the panel would be tantamount to “bringing the noose to my own hanging.”

But other influential members of the Democratic Caucus, such as Energy and Commerce ranking member Henry A. Waxman, D-Calif., argue there should be minority representation at the table.

Boehner, speaking to reporters at his weekly news conference on Thursday, said he hopes Democrats will participate.

“I had a conversation with the minority leader yesterday and made clear that this is a serious investigation, that we wanted to work together to get to the truth,” the Ohio Republican said.

Boehner indicated at least a possibility he is open to addressing Democratic concerns about participating in an investigation in which they are outnumbered and powerless.

“I think the 7-5 split is imminently fair,” he said. “Mrs. Pelosi and I had a conversation about how the committee will operate, there are further conversations that are continuing on that issue.”

Democratic leadership aides confirmed that the whole caucus will meet early Friday morning in hopes of reaching consensus on the issue.

Just a total waste of tax payer dollars.

    • Larry Venable

yeah right turd, 4 dead americans to quote Hillary – “what difference does it make??” she’ll live to rue the day she made that tossed of statement.
Well it makes a big difference to the families of these four patriots.

      • Wuthie

        Wow, name calling, LOL.

If you are going to quote someone do it right. ” What difference does it make NOW” big difference.

I guess you personally know these four families and what they think? If you remember, the families stated they didn’t want this to become political. AND what are Republicans doing?

Four Americans were killed by terrorist. Obama nor Clinton ever said it had anything to do with video or violet protest. Obama said it was a terrorist act. NEVER once saying it had to do with the violent protest.

Does anything change if someone said four Americans were killed do to a violent protest or four Americans were killed by terrorist. Which version makes you feel better?

It came out in 2012 that things could have been handled better and changes were made. Except increased funding to embassies. So what is this new panel going to find out?

        • Larry Venable

well at least I elicited a comment worth replying to. I dont normally say that even though I feel it.

Like adding NOW makes the comment more relevant ..NOT.

Obama and Clinton had everything to do with misleading the country on the video and Susan Rice on every channel that SUnday morning trying to deflect blame and get the Airhead -in-Charge re-elected.

Honesty and Integrity are job 1, they are both found wanting. The problem with funding was well known by Clinton and her lackeys yet they denied the funding…it wasn’t held hostage by the sequester like the less honest on the left suggested.

No I don’t know them personally, but I think it’s high time someone is held responsible. When the MSM goes out and meets the folks who did this for an interview at a restaurant; then I ask “who the Heck is not doing their job and sticking a 500 lb bomb up their bum” instead of letting them eat their favorite meal and wine while being interviewed.

And while I’m not a real big fan of a President of either party being Judge, Jury, and Executioner…he could use a drone to target these folks and make them disappear in a red mist of blood.

Al the left seems to care about is keep pushing the limits on our society with progressivism. I’ll catch hell, but you guys ought to take all the weirdos, abortionists, and gay fruit loops, be sure to take Al Gore too with ALL the tree huggers – move to California and succeed from the Union. I’d wave bye bye and hope for the big one to finally hit San Andreas with an evil smile on my face.

          • Wuthie

“Like adding NOW makes the comment more relevant ..NOT.”

You’re entitled to your own opinion even if it’s wrong. One word in a sentence can change the whole meaning.

“Obama and Clinton had everything to do with misleading the country on the video and Susan Rice on every channel that SUnday morning trying to deflect blame and get the Airhead -in-Charge re-elec
            ted.”
It was the CIA that told Rice what to say, Not Clinton or Obama. Clinton didn’t have the authority and even if Obama did there is no law against it. The other thing is this wouldn’t have cost him the reelection anyway.

            “Honesty
and Integrity are job 1, they are both found wanting.”

You’re joking right? Or is it that you believe it’s only for Democrats? Name one politician that lives by that rule.

            “The problem with
funding was well known by Clinton and her lackeys yet they denied the
funding…it wasn’t held hostage by the sequester like the less honest
            on the left suggested.”

Yeah, right, Congress asked Clinton if she wanted funding for the embassies and she said no. And you think it is the left that lies.

            “No
I don’t know them personally, but I think it’s high time someone is
held responsible. When the MSM goes out and meets the folks who did this
for an interview at a restaurant; then I ask “who the Heck is not doing
their job and sticking a 500 lb bomb up their bum” instead of letting
them eat their favorite meal and w
            ine whil
            e being interviewed.”

Well we both agree on the 500 lb bomb at least. but I can’t find anything where the media met with the terrorist. What you seem to forget is that we have to live by international laws, and we don’t know everything going on in the Pentagon. They may just be planning a drone strike.

            “Al
the left seems to care about is keep pushing the limits on our society
            with progressivism.”

And you can conversely say all the right wants to do is to keep pushing the limits on our society with conservatism. Neither one by itself is good for the country but a balance of both is.

“I’ll catch hell, but you guys ought to take all the
weirdos, abortionists, and gay fruit loops, be sure to take Al Gore too
with ALL the tree huggers – move to California and succeed from the
Union. I’d wave bye bye and hope for the big one to finally hi
            t San An
dreas with an evil smile on my face.”

Wow!! You are one angry hateful person. Everyone in my family and most my friends and neighbors are registered Republicans. None of them are as far right as you. What if that person picking out weirdos picks you? You still going to have that evil smile on your face?

    • Bob Wilke

Hate to tell you this pal, but these people get paid whether they do the investigation or not.

      • Wuthie

Hate to tell you this pal but there is more money involved in this than salaries. There are also people that are pulled away from the jobs they normally do to testify at this total waste of time. There are millions of people out of work that would love to have these people work on ways to create jobs instead of trying make Republicans look like they really care. If they did they would have increased funds to protect our embassies.

        • Larry Venable

like creating shovel ready jobs at $200,000 cost per job. When you live in a glass house don’t throw stones. The Democrats don’t exactly have a great track record on creating jobs… a 5 year recovery where we just had a quarter at 0.1% growth..thats something you can crow about.

          • Wuthie

2010 Republicans won the House running on creating jobs. What job bills have they put forward? They put over forty bills to stop ACA. They probably think that is a job bill. They shut down the government for several weeks. That was great for the economy. Maybe they think they created jobs when those that lost theirs returned to work. Unemployment has dropped since Obama took office from 10.1% to 6.6%. I could respond by saying last month had a 288K job increase. You can pick the lowest quarter and I can pick the highest. But this topic was about the waste of tax payer dollars on this waste of time special session.

  • richcreamerybutter

If certain Republicans were consistent in their compassion I’d believe they were indeed on a genuine search for answers.

  • Bob Wilke

Sharsand. Please list the Democrats that did not vote to approve the military actions taken by George Bush. How did Hillary Clinton vote? John Kerry? Harry Reid? Nancy Pelosi?

  • violet wilson

It was not her daughter. ONLY Two Ex NAVY SEALS AND TWO GAY DIPLOMATS! In harms way and left exposed. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?
    Wake up America!
