Kerry to Testify June 12 Before Oversight Committee — but Not Benghazi Panel (Updated)

Updated 3:58 p.m. | Secretary of State John Kerry will testify June 12 before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee — but, the State Department says he won’t be going before the new special select committee on Benghazi.

In a letter to Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa, the State Department said Kerry is open to testifying about Benghazi in June.

Earlier this month, the Oversight Committee subpoenaed Kerry to testify on May 29. Due to diplomatic responsibilities, the State Department said Kerry was unavailable for that date, but said he could testify on June 12 or June 20.

Issa agreed to June 12 Friday, spokesman Frederick Hill said in a statement.

Because Kerry has agreed to testify before the Oversight panel, the State Department said there is no need for him to testify before the Benghazi committee.

Of course, that determination could change, and it’s unlikely to appease Republicans and the chairman of the Benghazi Committee, Trey Gowdy of South Carolina.

Gowdy’s communications director, Amanda Duvall, told CQ Roll Call on Friday that the Benghazi Committee would talk to “all material witnesses as many times as necessary to discover all relevant facts and answer all relevant questions in a manner consistent with fair practice and respectful of the witnesses’ other responsibilities.”

Kerry was still in the Senate when the attack on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi occurred on Sept. 11, 2012, but he was at the State Department in the months following the attack in Libya. Kerry’s testimony will likely center around the State Department’s response to the attack which left four Americans dead, including J. Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya at the time.

THE REPUBLICAN SENATE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MORE THAN 2.9 MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES, WHO HAVE BEEN WITHOUT BENEFITS SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER. THEY HAVE DELIBERATELY DRAGGED THEIR FEET, AND HAVE MADE DELAY AFTER DELAY. SO IT WOULD BE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO APPROVE AN EXTENSION BILL . WHILE THE REPUBLICANS CONTINUED PLAYING “PARTY POLITICS”, MILLIONS OF FAMILIES HAVE FACED EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS. THESE FAMILIES HAVE BEEN RUINED FINANCIALLY, AND MANY MIGHT NEVER RECOVER FROM IT. THE REPUBLICANS HAVE USED THESE FAMILIES AS BARGAINING CHIPS, FOR POLITICAL LEVERAGE, TO FURTHER THEIR PARTY’S POLITICAL AGENDA. THEY HAVE SHOWN A TOTAL LACK OF COMPASSION AND COMMON DECENCY. THEY HAVE PROVEN THEMSELVES TO BE OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE COUNTRY. THEY ARE NOW ONLY REPRESENTING THE ONE PERCENT IN OUR COUNTRY, AND TOTALLY DISREGARDING THE OTHER 99 PERCENT WHO DO MOST OF THE TAX PAYING AND WORKING. SHAME ON THE REPUBLICANS FOR TREATING THE POOR AND UNEMPLOYED LIKE THIS.

Blah, blah, blah. No one wants to read endless babble, especially when the rant is in all capital letters. If anything is understood, however, it is that Democratic Obama supporters are getting desperate and their man is totally incompetent and merely a Left-wing panderer. The worst president in American history.

So what are you saying..? Obama should not run for a third term?

      To don76550,

GOP rehash of Benghazi hearings are picking pepper out of fly sh… If the GOP wants to rehash anything then they need to re-investigate one of America’s greatest foreign policy and economic failure in decades.

Months before the Iraq war, in a 2/24/01 interview in Cairo, Egypt, Collin Powell said: “And frankly they (sanctions) have worked. He (Hussein) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction.”

And on 29 July 2001, Condoleezza Rice indicated the weakness of Iraq when she said “the country is divided, arms have been kept from him and his military forces have not been rebuilt.” Thus, President GW Bush either knew Hussein did not have WMD or he was ignorant of what members of his administration knew in 2001.

Thus, in spite of the public statements of Powell and Rice, President GW Bush said the following in a speech in Cincinnati on Oct. 7, 2002: “If we know Saddam Hussein has dangerous weapons today – and we do…” But he did not know, and was proven 100% wrong.

A Oct. 24, 2005, American Conservative article, “Money for Notheing,” says that “When the final page is written on America’s catastrophic imperial venture, one word will dominate the explanation of U.S. failure—corruption. Large-scale and pervasive corruption meant that available resources could not be used to stabilize and secure Iraq in the early days of the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), when it was still possible to do so. (www.amconmag.com/article/2005/oct/24/00007/)

Moreover, cost to Americans and Iraqi’s have been staggering. Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies first released in 2011 a Costs of War report, here are some of the project’s findings:

      * Our tally of all of the war’s recorded dead — including soldiers, militants, police, contractors, journalists, humanitarian workers and civilians — shows that over 330,000 people have died due to direct war violence, many more indirectly.”

      * The US federal price tag for the Iraq war — including an estimate for veterans’ medical and disability costs into the future – is about $2.2 trillion dollars.

I think we can all agree that Hussein Obama’s personal jihad against the United States’ economy is destined to fail.

I think we can all agree that Hussein Obama is a crazed lunatic and a delusional menace.
