The governor, the chairman of his state party and a growing list of other Republicans (including, in all likelihood, the GOP leadership in the House — though they’ve yet to say so publicly) have asked him to step down, but Rep. Vance McAllister, for now, is trying to ride out the storm.

The “kissing congressman,” embroiled in an infidelity scandal, cancelled an appearance Monday at a tea party event in Ruston, La., according to rally organizers, who were told the congressman is spending this week in family counseling sessions, according to the Monroe News Star.

McAllister has not been seen in Washington since the scandal broke early last week, when a video surfaced online of the married congressman in an extended kiss and embrace with a female staff member — also married.

McAllister has told the News Star that he has no intentions of stepping down, and many in Louisiana and elsewhere, comparing the calls for McAllister’s resignation to the less-fevered responses in 2007 to Sen. David Vitter’s  D.C. madam scandal, have accused Republicans of hypocrisy.

I hope the American people will not forget the more than two million unemployed workers, and their families, who have been without unemployment benefits, since late last December. For the past four months, these families have had to endure countless delays, and party politics, while facing evictions, home foreclosures, personal bankruptcy, and homelessness. The Republican senators, have used these people as both bargaining chips, and for political leverage to further their political agendas. These people have worked all of their lives, paying into the system for such an unfortunate occasion, but have found themselves left hung out to dry by the republicans. While billions of tax payer’s dollars has been approved for the Ukraine, no extension bill to help these poor Americans has been passed in the senate. Senators like John Boehner, have used every possible method to have the extension bill killed in the senate. The Republicans have shown a total disregard and distain for the poor in this country, as well as for women in the workplace. Apparently, women also have suffered in the senate with the rejection of equal pay. Please help these families in dire need of this extension bill. For many it may already be too late to have helped them. Many families are living in their cars, or on the streets, after being unable to pay their mortgage and rent.

Since liberty was not consciously designed, but rather discovered and unleashed with Western civilization, its benefits were mostly unknown until they were recognized and studied.
