President Barack Obama, in a Thursday speech at the White House, implored House Republicans not to wait until next year to take up an immigration overhaul.

“Let’s see if we can get this done. And let’s see if we can get this done this year,” Obama said, adding that waiting would not make it any easier to accomplish.

He said there is time to get an immigration bill done and reiterated his talking points about the legislation boosting the economy and having bipartisan support. He said Democrats and Republicans should be able to come together to act on the things they agree on.

Brendan Buck, a spokesman for Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, urged the president to back the House GOP’s approach of passing piecemeal bills.

“The speaker agrees that America has a broken immigration system and we need reform that would boost our economy. He’s also been clear that the House will not consider any massive, Obamacare-style legislation that no one understands,” Buck said. “Instead, the House is committed to a common sense, step-by-step approach that gives Americans confidence that reform is done the right way. We hope that the president will work with us — not against us — as we pursue this deliberate approach.”

    America to Obama, go back to the golf course. No Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants. Jobs for Americans! Enforce the Law!

  • bryan76016

    What we need is a closed border. Foot traffic/auto/truck only cross at Customs check points. No freebies to illegals. Mexican Government billed for emergency medical and incarceration of illegals. Attrition for getting illegals already here, no need for a “massive sweep.” That includes illegals in government.

    • James Adams

      Very true Bryan,and we could do all that if our government worked for the American people and not the rich Jewish billionaires.

      • xian

        You’re an embarrassment to white people everywhere, with your feeble national socialism and kkk racism, flying your confederate flag of treason.

  • Layla

    Are Republicans REALLY this stupid?

    We have 90 million Americans out of work while this administration continues
    to send jobs overseas. We are spending billions we don’t have on other
    countries. Welfare spending is at record highs. Unemployment is still at record

    Who in their right mind, expecting to remain in office, is going to support
    amnesty for millions of illegals?

    The moment you do that, you make a mockery of the justice system in this country.

    The American people want to know who you are.

    • PILover

      You do understand that they are already here and working? That they’re not leaving? As an enlightened Republican, I’d like to have them paying taxes when all is said and done. Crying “amnesty” is just the new jingoism…

      • Layla

        Move to California and see how you like it. One of the provisions in this legislation will be that companies will not be required to pay healthcare and benefits for these people for the first 3 years.

        Under these circumstances, who do you think the jobs will go to? Now you have an idea why corporate American is putting on the pressure.

        Meanwhile, the rest of us have been reduced to just 25 hours per week because of Obamacare.

        • xian

          immigrants have all the advantages. it’s just so darn unfair!

          • Layla

            What we need is a new Congress. Remember that in 2014, 2016 and 2018. No money to the DNC or the RNC. Only donate to new candidates.

            It’s time to end the insanity.

          • xian

            the best protest you can make, given your understanding of affairs, is to boycott the ballot and withhold your vote entirely!

          • James Adams

            Immigrants are foreign scum.No other country allows invaders to steal the culture and wealth of the natives,I’m sure youre real country doesnt xian.Here in America the wealthy Jews dictate massive immigration to accomplish their goals and get richer.They could care less if they destroy a nation and flood it with mud.

          • xian

            not sure what a youre real country is but I wonder where your inbred ancestors came to this continent from.

            I wonder if all racists are as ignorant and foolish as you?

        • Wuthie

          If you read the statics Layla, and I’ve heard this from a number of places including the Wall Street Journal. Part time work has been going down since the ACA. But the decline has nothing to do with the ACA. The economy has increased so are full time jobs. The mandate for businesses doesn’t start until 2015. Remember one of the bills to delay the personal mandate because the business mandate was delayed.

          What do you think most of these undocumented workers are doing right now, sitting around collecting welfare? Most are entrepreneurs. with their own businesses because it is too hard to find a job with out a social security #. Landscaping, window washing, small construction jobs, street cart venders. They’re making money, and not paying taxes, because they can’t. And it’s 30 hours not 25.

          • Layla

            Part time jobs are increasing, not decreasing. It has EVERYTHING to do with the ACA. The economy is in a stall, not improving. Nearly 50% are on welfare and that number is rising. You can’t fool the American people. We live in these communities. We live this everyday and we see what is happening.

            NO AMNESTY until the borders are secure.

          • Wuthie

            Layla you seem to have a hard time dealing with facts. This is from the BLS Bureau of Labor Statics:

            The average workweek for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls was unchanged in September at 34.5 hours. In manufacturing, the workweek was 40.8 hours, the same as in August, and overtime was unchanged at 3.4 hours. The average workweek for production and nonsupervisory employees on private nonfarm payrolls was unchanged at 33.7 hours. (See tables B-2 and B-7.)

            The reason for the decrease in part time jobs is the improved economy from 2008. The mandate for businesses with 50 or more employees to provide health care to their employees doesn’t take effect until 2015. So WHY would employers start cutting full time workers to part time if they aren’t required to offer them health care??

            By the way, there is no such thing as a secure border. You can even get into North Korea if for some reason you wanted to.

        • xian

          I live in California and I like it just fine.

          Have your hours been reduced, or are you just parroted some b.s. you heard from Rush, Fox, or Beck?

      • Bill Chelmowski

        If they are here and working, why are they not paying taxes. Is it enlightened to reward criminals? You want more un-documented Democrats. you are either a liberal or a RINO.

        • PILover

          RINO’s are the only enlightened Republicans left, sir. My background is in blue collar work. It would take too much space here to explain how it is easy not to pay taxes in a job in the restaurant, manufacturing or landscaping industries. Trust me on this: a pathway to citizenship will mean more income tax revenue. I am sick of people who think that by not solving this, we are doing the right thing. Undocumented immigrants use our healthcare system now and the states make hospitals whole through things such as “uncompensated care pools.” Wouldn’t you rather move that money into your own pocket by making the individual responsible? This sounds like a fear thing that has ZERO to do with equity. I don’t condone that they broke the law but, as I said earlier, they’re not leaving. We need a solution that understands these facts on the ground.

          • James Adams

            You sound just as stupid as Lindsay Graham,you’re reading all his talking points.Are you bought off by the billionaire Jews like he is?Sounds like.

          • xian

            you sure are obsessed with Jews

          • PILover

            Funny. I appreciate sounding like Lindsey Graham. He’s looking for a solution and understands that time machines don’t exist yet. Did you know that racism and hate are merely a product of ignorance? This is a truism. I suggest that you get to know the black community, the Hispanic community, the Asian community. You know what? You’d find they have the same economic fears as you. We’re all in this together and a House divided cannot stand. I know you agree with this statement but what you don’t understand is that Blacks, Latinos, Asians and Middle Easterners are all members of our household.

            And as a fellow white man, I’m telling you that you have no empirical evidence to be afraid. I think open-minded counselling would help you. It is nothing more than skin color. It’s like preferring a brown wallet over a black wallet to carry your cash. Enough with your efforts to make God cringe.

      • James Adams

        You do understand that you’re a traitor,right? To defend invaders who flood our schools and communities and take OUR resources makes you scum.You’d love to have them paying taxes huh…so a minimum wage worker with eight offspring is going to pay enough taxes to offset all they take…absurd,and you know it.They are takers!And I suspect you are a mud person yourself.

        • PILover

          Interesting comment. Outside of your misuse of the terms “traitor,” “scum” and “mud person,” you make my point – especially to Republicans like me who know better and how taxation actually works. You little racist pig. You KKK sheet wearing, tiny-minded person. YOU are not a Republican. Stop “muddying” the respect MY party once had with your hate-filled rhetoric.

          • xian

            y’all true patriotic decent conservatives need to clean house. these kluxers are taking over your party. they don’t even feel enough shame anymore to hide their ignorance and racism.

          • PILover

            I don’t know how we let all this HATE into our party. Ideologically, I will always be a Republican – a tiger can’t change its stripes. These last few year have been really rough…

          • xian

            I can sympathize. My parents were Republicans and I miss the decent GOP of the past. At its best, they watched the till and made sure we didn’t waste too much money (some waste is probably always inevitable!). They weren’t against all taxes at all times when there were national needs (such as wars) that needed to be financed. They were the party of Lincoln and they championed civil rights.

            I’m afraid the party has been on a downward slide for some time now, and the fringe Bircher types like the ones you see on this thread proudly parading their ignorance and hate, are really in the driver’s seat. Look how popular Ted Cruz is in your party.

            I wish you the very best taking it back!

  • thereasonableprogressive

    Hold on! Last year during the 2012 campaign Republicans (Rubio, Romney for example) insisted that nothing but “comprehensive” reform would do. Now only a “step-by-step”approach is acceptable. Okay. How about starting with something like the Dream Act?

    • Layla

      And Obama promised we’d have healthcare by now, CHEAPER HEALTHCARE.

      Until something is done to PERMANENTLY STOP illegal immigration, you won’t find any support among American citizens for amnesty.

      • thereasonableprogressive

        So are you saying there will be no reform? Any meaningful will have to grant “amnesty” in one form or another. Moreover, from all I have read American citizens will support the Dream Act or an equivalent. Do you think House Republicans will support it?

        By the way, what does health care have to with this discussion?

        • Layla

          Promises were made re healthcare by this President, Pelosi and Reid. They lied. Policies are being dropped faster than people are signing up.

          Promises are not always kept. I don’t think anybody realized we’d be looking at a rising 90 MILLION unemployed.

  • Ed Burns

    I read this somewhere and copied it and like to send it out when the issue of of amnesty for the Illegal Aliens rears its ugly head:

    If you do then you do then you also support the following

    Higher unemployment!

    An additional 6.3 trillion dollars in debt!

    Lower wages for American workers!

    The borrowing of 2 billion a year from
    china to the cost to deliver a babies for
    parents illegally present in the U.S.!

    Calling those babies U.S. citizens!

    More drunk driving accidents!

    More child rapes!

    More Trashy neighborhoods!

    Increased levels of immigration!

    And many more negative aspects!

  • Gyst53

    Just one case in point regarding immigration:

    You would think with our sophisticated Night Vision Infra-red cameras and
    Surveillance Drones we could easily protect our border. Why won’t Mexico
    enforce its side of the border?

    Look what they (Mexico) do to illegal immigrants…

    Mexico’s Immigration Laws

    1. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools.

    * * * *

    2. All ballots will be in this nation’s language.

    * * * *

    3. All government business will be conducted in our language.

    * * * *

    4. Non-residents will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they are

    * * * *

    5. Non-citizens will NEVER be able to hold political office

    * * * *

    6 Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food
    stamps, no health care, or other government assistance programs. Any burden
    will be deported.

    * * * *

    7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount at least
    equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.

    * * * *

    8. If foreigners come here and buy land… options will be restricted.
    Certain parcels including waterfront property are reserved for citizens
    naturally born into this country.

    * * * *

    9.. Foreigners may have no protests; no demonstrations, no waving of a
    foreign flag, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our president or his
    policies. These will lead to deportation.

    * * * *

    10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be actively hunted
    &, when caught, sent to jail until your deportation can be arranged. All
    assets will be taken from you.

    Just like in our country…. right?

    READ: Brendan Buck, a spokesman for Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, urged the president to back the House GOP’s approach of passing piecemeal bills.

    What a P-ss poor comment, who allows this idiot make comments as: “passing PIECEMEAL bills”. And he gets paid taxpayer’s money to be so!!

    The vision of House of Representatives, the Peoples House, should be stated as “incremental bills”. So designed to compliment each other, to build collective momentum based on nonpartisan deliberated conclusion of progress toward very well defined objectives. With timeline milestones, weighted basis points to measure progress and even alternative legislative content pending success (or not) conclusions. Good grief…

    Have a nice day :-)
