Freshman Rep. Vance McAllister, a conservative Louisiana Republican who was sworn-in five months ago, asked for privacy for his children and forgiveness from constituents Monday, acknowledging the validity of a video showing him kissing one of his employees.

In a short statement issued a few hours after the Ouachita Citizen, a West Monroe, La., newspaper posted what appeared to be surveillance video, McAllister gave no indication he would resign.

“There’s no doubt I’ve fallen short and I’m asking for forgiveness,” McAllister said in a statement. “I’m asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I’ve disappointed.”

McAllister, married with five children, won a special election to replace Rodney Alexander in November.

The statement in full:

“There’s no doubt I’ve fallen short and I’m asking for forgiveness. I’m asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I’ve disappointed. From day one, I’ve always tried to be an honest man. I ran for congress to make a difference and not to just be another politician. I don’t want to make a political statement on this, I would just simply like to say that I’m very sorry for what I’ve done. While I realize I serve the public, I would appreciate the privacy given to my children as we get through this.”

Vance McAllister Kissing Video Could Prompt Flood of GOP Challengers

Let’s see how the noble “family values” GOP responds to this one.

    • bigbubbatadsworth

The T E A B A G family values will say that god has forgiven this fallen sinner, and all is well. According to the family values crowd of republican/teabaggers, god doesn’t forgive Democrats. His constituents are probably stupid enough to, forgive him.

  • Dirk Diggler

He’s probably also against same sex marriage, loves family values…and his hottie scheduler.

  • Michael Wagner

Could also use a little help with pronouns and contractions.

    • Adrien Seybert

He should resign on that basis. Is it up to news orgs to correct a lawmaker’s typos?

  • Layla

I’m sorry, but I think you need to resign.

  • Ryan

This is the Congressman who won a special election earlier this year with calls from the “Duck Dynasty” Robertson family (before the controversial comments), then took Phil to the White House as his guest for the State of the Union address (well after those comments).

  • betsym

I am really tired of the self righteous GOP always talking about their family values and love of their Church. Well, I wonder how many more of these Congress people act like this. I bet many. At least the Dems don’t act this way. By that I mean they don’t brag about family values. Everyone should have family values and not brag about it like the GOP arrogant Congress people do. And I love my Church and Jesus Christ but I feel no need to brag about it. I believe everyones religion should be private.
Some of my arrogant friends seem to think if you don’t wear the fish on your sleeve you are evil.

    T E A B A G G E R family values is having a woman on the side, and not getting caught.

  • bigbubbatadsworth

    This is just another example of, a dumb T E A B A G G E R. Don’t feel up your assistant, while the cameras are rolling.

  • NoWay123

He’s from Louisiana so he is okay. People of LA are known to forgive “‘traditional marriage/family value” GOPee hypocrites.

Wait a minute people, is this a new record for Congress? “He only made it slightly more than a month into his first term before getting caught on video” Wonkette: http://bit.ly/1suU7Js

A skunk doesn’t change it’s stripes that quickly. This is not new a character trait. He needs to go home and see if he can get on the right side of his family.

  • Uncle Rex

Since free markets reward us for the usefulness of our actions, they are incompatible with merit-based systems of subjective judgement.

  • Boston You

Even with civilization’s advance, we have retained the instinct of mass action that typically results from the effects of crowd psychology.

  • Andre Leonard

Vance unfortunately has shown himself to be a dog. A horn dog. All the protestation of apologies, forgiveness and God are nice, But truly empty.

Poor judgement and moral lapses like Vance has displayed are dangerous. If Vance is willing to sacrifice his wife and children on the alter of public embarrassment. He would not doubt be a poor performer in Congress.

This excuse for a politician is about as obscene as one can get — but so are most all the rest of the politicians. He’s not sorry about what happened — he’s just sorry he got caught!. I’m glad; they should all get caught. Not one of these politicians run for office to represent the people; they want that cushy office with all the perks that come with it and they will say or do whatever it takes to be elected.
Also a comment to “betsym” — you are living in a dream world if you think democrats don’t do the same thing as republicans! They’re all out to get what they can from the get-go and if you think they are truly in office to look out for your best interest you really need some serious educating. Obviously you are a democrat; even a republican wouldn’t have been ignorant enough to make the comments you made. I feel sorry for you and all those like you who keep voting the same incompetents into office time after time after time — and what have you gotten for it? More of the same. Sad.

  • Carroll Barber

What a prick. Newly elected to congress and instantly feeling God like that he is going to shag one of his staff. Now you understand why he wanted in office; he had been told about the perks! Not to worry, his brother’s and sister’s in congress will welcome him with open arms. They have all been in his shoes. What an elite club to belong to. His wife and kids must be so proud of him. The future will hold many more apologies for them all. Welcome to Congress. :)
