Congressional Baseball Social Could Become Annual Thing

The congressional social at Nationals Park tonight has defied a busy legislative day and the glitz of the Radio & Television Correspondents’ Association gala to vastly exceed the expectations of Reps. David B. McKinley, R-W.Va., and Diana DeGette, D-Colo.
“It’s been on and off because of approps,” said McKinley spokesman Jim Forbes, referring to the hectic work sked, but he said the organizers expect “over a hundred members and 400 staffers,” to show up at the Washington Nationals-New York Mets contest.
Among the offerings for the package is a members-only bipartisan reception before the game, a bloc of seats for all attendees, and staffers singing the National Anthem. “The goal was around 200 total,” Forbes said, adding that organizers have been blown away by the response.
“The Nationals have told us this is going to be an annual event,” Forbes told Roll Call After Dark.
The Nationals will start getting used to members of Congress and their staffs, since the 52nd Annual CQ Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game is coming up on Thursday, June 13.
Shuttles will ferry lawmakers and staff to the stadium from the Rayburn horseshoe starting at 5:30 p.m.
