Friday Night at the Movies: ‘Documented’ at AFI Docs
Posted at 9 a.m. on June 21, 2013
Not sure if you may have heard, but apparently immigration is a big deal these days on Capitol Hill?
We kid. It’s kind of everywhere, particularly on the Senate floor, and is a bit more complicated a social issue than just throwing around the term “amnesty” or “dreamer.”
That certainly comes through in Jose Antonio Vargas’ new film, “Documented,” which is showing tonight at the National Portrait Gallery at 8 p.m., as part of the documentary film festival AFI Docs presented by Audi.
Vargas, a former Washington Post reporter who revealed he was an undocumented immigrant in a New York Times Magazine article he wrote, trains the camera on himself, showing that the process by which one even discovers he or she is undocumented is not so simple.
Check it out, particularly if you’re tired of some of the lazy rhetoric that passes for public discourse in the immigration debate these days.
