New LGBT Leadership for House and Senate Staffers

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Congressional Staff Association, the House of Representatives’ bipartisan LGBT organization, has announced new leadership changes.

Michelle Mittler, director of scheduling and special events for Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md., will serve as the organization’s first female president. Mitchell Rivard, communications director for Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Mich., will serve as vice president.

GLASS, the Senate LGBT organization, announced last week that Justin Laufer, a legislative correspondent for Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, will join the steering committee. Laufer is the first Republican to serve on the GLASS board this year.

THE REPUBLICANS & DEMOCRATS HAVE FAILED THE MORE THAN 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED WORKERS, STILL WITHOUT BENEFITS SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER. OVER THE PAST SIX MONTHS, THE SENATE HAS DENIED THESE FAMILIES UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS, DRIVING THESE FAMILIES INTO FINANCIAL RUIN IN THE PROCESS. THESE FAMILIES HAVE SINCE FACED EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WHILE WAITING FOR THE EXTENSION BILL TO PASS IN THE SENATE. THESE TWO POLITICAL PARTIES HAVE SHOWN A TOTAL LACK OF COMPASSION, AND COMMON DECENCY TOWARDS THESE FAMILIES. THEY HAVE INTENTIONALLY FAILED THESE PEOPLE, WITHOUT REGARD TO THEIR PLIGHT OR FUTURE. REGARDLESS OF THE POLITICAL POLLS, WE ARE STILL IN A RECESSION, AND JOBS ARE STILL DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND TO PROVIDE FOR YOUR FAMILY. THESE POLITICIANS NEED A RELIALTY CHECK. THEY HAVE BECOME SO REMOVED FROM THE REST OF AMERICANS THEY CAN’T SEE WHAT’S ON THE GROUND. THE EXTENSION NEEDS TO BE PASSED IMMEDIATELY TO HELP THESE FAMILIES.
