113th Congress Freshmen Take $6.5 Million in PAC Money During First Three Months

Special interest groups gave $6.5 million to 88 new-to-town freshmen during the first three months of the 113th Congress. The first-quarter fundraising period was a great welcoming event to town, or what is appropriately called the banks of the Potomac. Twenty-two new members each received more than $100,000.

During the first three months of the new Congress, these freshmen received their committee assignments and began to quickly raise campaign contributions to pay off debts and build war chests for their next campaign — even if they didn’t know of an opponent yet. In the midst of learning about Congress, these freshmen found time to raise contributions from political action committees of corporations, trade associations, unions and issue groups, as well as from other members of Congress.

Here is the  ranking of new-to-town freshmen* and the amount their campaign committees received from PACs and other committees in the first quarter of 2013.
