$27 Million Republican Political Donor Dies

Bob Perry, a Texas multi-millionaire home builder, who wrote checks for $27 million to federal Republican political organizations during the 2012 campaign, died on Saturday. Perry had been a major Republican donor over the years, including his providing more than $4 million for Swift Boat Veterans For Truth ads against Sen. John Kerry in his 2004 presidential campaign.

Perry was known for his willingness to write big checks for causes he supported. In 2011-2012, he wrote 52 checks to Republican organizations that publicly disclose donors to the Federal Election Commission or to the I.R.S, as Section 527 organizations. His largest check was for $3 million. He also wrote seven checks for $2 million; five checks for $1 million; one check for $750,000; four checks for $500,000; and ten checks for $250,000; among others.
