45 Freshmen in House More Than Double Their Salary

Some freshmen Representatives in the 113th Congress have just made a huge jump in salary and are now earning $174,000. Forty-five of them will more than double their 2012 salary.

In personal financial disclosure reports released last week, 15 freshman in the House of Representatives reported they had no 2012 earned income for themselves. In some cases, their spouses may have had earned income, or the candidates may have had investment income. Some candidates may have been campaigning full time in 2012.

Those who reported no 2012 earned income for themselves included Representatives Ami Bera (D-Calif.); Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore.); Susan Brooks (R-Ind.); Tom Cotton (R-Ark.); Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.); Bill Foster (D-Ill.); Lois Frankel (D-Fla.); Denny Heck (D-Wash.); George Holding (R-N.C.); Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Ariz.); Doug LaMalfa (R-Calilf.); Carol Shea-Porter (D-N.H.); Dina Titus (D-Nev.); Ann Wagner (R-Mo.); and Jackie Walorski (R-Ohio).

The 20 others with low earned income ($1 to $49,999) included Representatives Andy Barr (R-Ky.) $48,419; James Bridenstine (R-Okla.) $33,222; Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) $6,341; Susan DelBene (D-Wash.) $14,078; Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) $12,155; William Enyart (D-Ill.) $49,438; Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) $30,000; Joe Kennedy III (D-Mass.) $3,386; Ann Kuster (D-N.H.) $49,980;  Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) $35,442; Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) $39,838; Richard Nolan (D-Minn.) $11,812; Beta O’Rourke (D-Texas) $29,095; Trey Radel (R-Fla.) $2,486; Tom Rice (R-S.C.) $49,000; Keith Rothfus (R-Pa.) $10,730; Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) $15,092; Mark Takano (D-Calif.) $41,139; Mark Veasey (D-Texas) $37,032; and Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) $7,758.

10 others reported 2012 earned income of between $50,000 and $87,000. These included Representatives Julia Brownley (D-Calif.) $83,900; Doug Collins (R-Ga.) $78,140; Paul Cook (R-Calif.) $74,880; Rodney Davis (R-Il.) $51,808; Jared Huffman (D-Calif) $74,209; Stuart Lowenthal (D-Calif) $62,418; Grace Meng (D-N.Y.) $79,500; Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) $75,969; David Valadao (R-Calif.) $81,694; and Juan Vargas (D-Calif,.) $82,520.

A few freshmen have received extensions to file their reports at a later date.

6/24 Update: Rep. Susan Brooks filed an amendment to her financial report, indicating that she did have earned income in 2012 totaling $35,900.
