Bono’s One Action Ramps Up Lobbying

The second 2014 quarterly disclosure report for Bono’s lobbying efforts has confirmed a major jump in direct advocacy efforts in 2014.
Bono co-founded One Action, a 501c4 non-profit organization that engages in grassroots and direct advocacy with policymakers and key influential persons around the world in support of smart and effective policies and programs, which are saving the lives of millions of people in the world’s poorest countries.
One Action reported it had spent $668,460 on lobbying the federal government in the second quarter of 2014. In the first quarter of 2014 it reported spending $694,623. These two 2014 quarters – of spending more than $650,000 during each, are a substantial jump from the $425,000 to $500,000 spending per quarter in 2013. One Action lobbied on budget and appropriations issues, such as FY15 appropriations for State-For Ops, including HIV/AIDS, agriculture, GAFSP, vaccines, MCC, Feed the Future, and OPIC.
One Action also lobbied on financial institutions and investment issues such as implementation of the Cardin-Lugar amendment to the Dodd-Frank law; Section 1504; and extractive transparency.
One Action also lobbied on foreign relation issues, such as Aid reform, including Food Aid Reform, HR 2638 and S 1271 – The Foreign Aid Transparency and Accountability Act; Global nutrition issues, including S 2421; Energy Poverty alleviation HR 2548; the Electrify Africa Act S 2508; the Energize Africa Water for the World HR 2901.
