After only 70 days in Congress, a freshman Congressman registers a new leadership PAC to collect funds from individuals and interest groups.
Rep. Bradley Byrne, R-Ala, who was sworn in on January 8, 2014, has registered Byrne PAC with the Federal Election Commission, and indicated it was his leadership PAC. The treasurer is J. Ashley Newman in Montgomery, Alabama.
Byrne was elected in a special election in December 2013 to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Jo Bonner, who resigned in August 2013 to become the vice-chancellor of government relations and economic development for the University of Alabama.
Byrne now sits on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee.
In this cycle, Byrne reported receipts of $1,276,649 and disbursements of $1,190,308 through January 6, 2014, leaving $86,341 cash on hand, with debts of $60,433. His committee received $548,601 from PACs and other committees. Of that, members of Congress and their leadership PACs gave $146,500.
