A former Congressman, who was chairman of House Appropriations Committee, has just converted his campaign committee, which last reported having $856K in cash, into a new political action committee to give contributions to federal candidates and committees.

Former Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., reported he had converted his campaign committee, Lewis for Congress Committee, into a PAC called the Jerry Lewis Political Action Committee.

In the 2011-2012 cycle, Lewis decided not to seek re-election in 2012 after redistricting in California, but his campaign committee had receipts of $517,353, including $71,800 from individuals and $182,500 from PACs. As of Dec. 31, 2012, the committee has $856,408 in cash on hand.

Lewis served in Congress from 1979 through 2012. He was chairman of the House Appropriations Committee from 2005 to 2006. He was a strong supporter of earmarks.
