Independent Expenditures Go Sky High in Senate Special Election

Outside organizations continued their independent spending of hundreds of thousands of dollars for and against U.S. Senate candidates in the June 25 Massachusetts special election. This includes paying for aerial banners.
The Americans for Progressive Action, whose donors are unknown, reported spending $723,231 from 6/13-14 for Republican Gabriel Gomez and opposing Democrat Edward J. Markey. The group paid Intrepid Media Inc. (Fla.) for media production; Smart Media Group LLC (Va.) for media placement; and Media Group of America LLC for online advertising.
The LCV Victory Fund reported spending $178,077 opposing Gomez. They paid $178,077 on June 14 to the Strategy Group (Ill.) for a series of mailers.
NextGen Committee reported spending $65,380 on June 14 for independent expenditures against Gomez. They paid Markham Group LLC (Ark.) for lawn sign creation and distribution; Sadler Strategic Media Inc. (Calif.) for aerial banner; and Tigercomm (Va.) for aerial banner planning and creation.
The Senate Majority PAC reported paying $62,583 on June 14 to the Pivot Group Inc. (D.C.) for direct mail. The independent expenditures oppose Gomez.
Planned Parenthood Votes reported paying $68,610 to Stones’ Phones on June 15 for persuasion phone calls. The independent expenditures support Markey.
The Hispanic Leadership Fund reported spending $19,503 on June 14 to pay Arena Communications (Utah) for voter contact mail production and postage. The independent expenditures opposed Markey.
American Unity PAC Inc. reported spending $21,565 from June 14-15 on independent expenditure opposing Markey. They paid Arena Communications for direct mail, and Targeted Victory (Va.) for online ads and web design.
