RNC Sails By DNC in August Fundraising

The national party committees had different results for the normally slow fundraising month of August. The Republican National Committee raised almost $2.5 million more than the Democratic National Committee.
TheRepublican National Committee reported it had receipts of $6,762,822 and disbursements of $6,520,165 during August,leaving $12,510,182 cash on hand on 8/31, with no debts. The committee raised $3.5 million from contributors giving $200 or less. Of the $3 million in itemized donors, Texas contributors gave $400,043. Florida donors gave $268,754. California donors gave $263,580.
Major individual donors included the following, each giving $32,400: McDonald’s Corporation CEO James Skinner ; L. Mays (founder/Chairman, Clear Channel Communications, TX); Robert McCormack (venture capitalist, FL); Edmund Schweitzer (president, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, WA): Beatrix Schweitzer, WA; Elizabeth Uihlein (president, Uline Inc, IL.); among others.
The committee spent $1.4 million on postage; $1.1 million on telemarketing; $752,251 on payroll; $485,814 on mail production services; among other expenditures. The committee paid $50,000 to Receiver Douglas A. Kelley for a law suit settlement. The committee transferred $559,330 to various state party committees, including $271,200 to the Republican Party of Virginia.
The DNC Services Corp/Democratic National Committee reported receipts of $4,297,231 and disbursements of $4,806,960 during August, leaving $3,634,122 cash on hand, with $18.2 million in debts outstanding. The committee raised $2.2 million from contributors giving $200 or less. PACs and other committees gave $190,909. Of the $1.8 million in itemized contributions, California contributors gave $333,658, New York donors gave $157,633, and Texas contributors agave $134,383.
Major donors include actress Melanie Griffith (1-2-3 Cashmere Inc., NY) gave $16,200; Janie Hendrix (CEO, Experience Hendrix, WA) gave $32,400; Bennet J. Murphy (attorney, Dewey & LeBoeuf, CA) gave $32,400; Laura Paulson (deputy chairman, Christies Inc., NY) gave $25,000; among others.
The committee paid $1 million to reduce their outstanding loans. They also spent $750,000 on direct mail; $515,664 on salaries; $499,991 on telemarketing; $190,909 on list rental; and transferred $271,751 to various state party committees.
