A losing presidential campaign made a late winner out of a small campaign merchandise company in Maryland when the campaign sent a check to the company for almost $450,000.
Romney Victory Inc., a joint fundraising committee for 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, reported that it paid the GOP Shoppe in Glen Burnie, Maryland, $449,175 on 7/19 for “t-shirts/bumper stickers/pins.” The company finally sent the correct bill and the campaign paid for campaign merchandise used in last year’s election.
The committee is winding down and still receiving refunds and rebates from companies, including $262,500 during the third quarter. It reported $470,370 cash on hand as of 9/30.
In the first quarter of 2013, the committee refunded 398 contributions totaling $511,330. Five of the refunds were for more than $25,000. They included $50,000 to Heron Capitol Partners Ltd LP (TX); $50,000 to Physicians Reciprocal Insurers (NY); $39,200 to James Carr (RI); $35,000 to Wendy Barensfeld (PA); and $34,200 to Stephen Finn (CO).
In the second quarter of 2013, the committee refunded 50 contributions totaling $540,043. Ten of those refunds were for more than $25,000. They included $49,200 to Suzanne Ware (TX); $47,500 to Raymond Park (OH); $30,000 to Donald Trump (NY); $26,700 to Mitchel Burns (FL); $26,700 to Jeffrey Cappo (MI); $26,700 to Glenn Potter (UT); $25,800 to Michael Baur (SC); $25,200 to John Downs (AL); $25,200 to Andrew Miller (OR); and $25,000 to Carver Properties LLC (CA).
The 2012 principal campaign committee of Mitt Romney, the Romney for President committee, has not yet filed their third quarter report which is due on 10/15, but as of 6/30 it had $1,120,597 cash on hand.
