Stanford University: Valleywag Just Can’t Take It Anymore
Posted at 3:56 p.m. on July 16
Just in time for tomorrow’s 6th annual happy hour cruise for Stanford University grads in D.C., the antagonistic Silicon Valley blog Valleywag has posted a profane screed against the tech-company feeder school. “It’s time we talk about Stanford as it is: a stuck-up temple to new plutocracy, cronyism, and greed,” writes Sam Biddle.
The university has “overtaken Harvard as the it-school for aspiring moguls, overachievers, and various other American teens who dream of creating a hot startup and then screwing their best friend out of it,” Biddle writes.
Stanford alumni in Congress — presumably graduates from kinder, gentler, more idealistic times — include Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Reps. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, Adam B. Schiff, D-Calif., and Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., whose district includes parts of Silicon Valley. (But not Stanford itself; that’s in Democrat Anna G. Eshoo’s district.)
