Boehner’s Move on Unemployment Extension, Reid Says (Video)

It’s up to the House to act next on an unemployment extension, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Tuesday.

“We need to get some movement in the House,” he said at his weekly press conference. “We’ve already passed an unemployment extension over here and the House, in their typical fashion, has done nothing.”

Reid applauded efforts by Sens. Jack Reed, D-R.I., and  Dean Heller, R-Nev., “to keep the issue alive.”

The two unveiled their latest proposal for a five-month unemployment extension earlier Tuesday. But Reid’s statement suggests their latest bill won’t reach the Senate floor.

And House action is unlikely as Speaker A. John Boehner, R-Ohio, has said he wants to help boost the economy and create jobs rather than just revive emergency unemployment compensation.

“The speaker laid out the criteria before Christmas: We will take a look at any plan that is fiscally-responsible, and does something to help create private-sector jobs,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said in an email. Republicans have in the past pointed to a pileup of House bills in the Senate as examples of items they would consider attaching to an unemployment extension.

The proposal is the latest iteration of the five-month measure. The Senate in April passed the previous version that would have provided benefits going back to late December when they expired.

The current version is prospective, providing benefits for five months beginning the day of enactment.

More than 3 million people have been cut off the emergency unemployment benefits since they expired.

Shut the hell up, you copy and paste the same b.s. nonsense on every article/website. If you dedicated as much energy to getting a job as you did sitting at home spewing bullshit, you wouldn’t need EUC. Get a life!

      • Ralph

He probably on some kind of government assistance or lives at home with mommy or daddy either way hes a looser

        • Disqus189781378

          I wouldn’t be surprised.

        • David

I wish you were in front of me talking that trash but then you wouldn’t be talking your trash in front of anyone. Real men stand up and fight and they don’t do it with fellow American’s, like you choose to do here. Is your dad proud of you?

        • David

I wish you were talking that trash in front of me but then that is why you choose to do it from behind your computer screen, it is safer there for you. Is your dad proud of you? Defending your country with your words … wow you are a tough guy.

        • David

Hey Ralphie, the best part of you ran down your mothers leg. Maybe some dribbled out of her mouth too.

      • David

Another coward fighting battles from behind his computer screen.

        • Disqus189781378

Really? I’m a coward because I think it is childish to bring more American families down into the hole because you never got retro? The old misery loves company motto, you want to really live by that? Cut off EUC for more Americans, because you all didn’t get your retro.. OK, big baby gets what big baby wants, I understand.

          • David

I question if you would talk your trash face to face. I tend to believe you are another loser who fights from behind the safety of his computer screen. Did you ever serve your country? Probably not. Real men stand up and fight like men,

          • Disqus189781378

LOL another troll who thinks just because he’s served, he’s better than everyone else. WE GET IT, YOU HAD NO REAL SKILLS IN THE WORK FORCE SO YOU HAD TO ENLIST! the superiority complex some of these soldiers come home with is baffling, you’re a puppet for the Gub’ment, kudos

Run little coward it suits you well.

          • David

Again, let me state that it does not take much of a man to fight from behind a computer screen. Is your dad proud? I am glad you know so much about me when you really know nothing about me. I guess you are just the smartest of us all, NOT. I wish you tried talking trash to my face but then we both know you are not man enough.

In all my life I have never come across such a pathetic loser as you. No wonder you didn’t answer the questions about your father … your mother was raped by drunken sailors. She should have had an abortion the world would have been a better place without you. Save your comments for someone who cares, all I want is your address. You will pay dearly scum.

          • David

Sebastian you are the lowest form of scum on the planet. You are a liar and a cheat there is nothing about you that is real. If you had a life you would not feel the need to keep coming up with new identities. You are a fool beyond all fools with no chance of ever being anything but an idiot. I am coming after you loser and it will be devistating for you. A loser will always be a loser when his name is Sebastian the coward.

          • David

You are scum today and you will always be scum and nothing more. No wonder you didn’t answer about your dad being proud. I knew it was you all along, that is why I tossed in the father not being proud. You have serious issues that will require professional help.before you can possibly become normal. Your mother really should have had an abortion instead of bringing scum in to this world.

          • David

F U Chump you are nothing but a liar and a coward. Everyone knows it and you can’t change it. You will always be a loser and scum.

we petition the obama administration to:

To take a more aggressive and proactive approach in working with Congress to help pass a new bill to restore EUC program

There are over 3.4 million long term unemployed Americans, including over 300,000 military veterans, who have lost EUC benefits since 12/28/2013.

Please put political games aside and help these hard-working, responsible Americans make ends meet and support their families as they seek employment. For each week that Congress fails to act on this crucial issue, more than 70,000 more long-term unemployed people lose EUC benefits.

Please work with John Boehner and Congress to pass legislation to renew the federal EUC program retroactively to the expiration date of 12/28/2013. This is just as vital to our economy as it is to the survival of the more than 3.4 million long term unemployed. Also, please do something to urge, persuade, and or entice employers to hire long-term unemployed Americans.

    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/take-more-aggressive-and-proactive-approach-working-congress-help-pass-new-bill-restore-euc-program/Z0lLL2tX

PLEASE SIGN AND PASS ALONG TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. WE NEED 100,000 SIGNATURES IN ORDER TO GET A RESPONSE FROM THE WHITE HOUSE!

  • Darrell Peck

By now everyone know that there is not going to be a extension of
unemployment benefits. I wish that the people in congress would just
say its a dead issue and stop raise the hopes of the people that are in
need of this life line. These people must feel like they are on a
merry-go-round going up and down with their emotions. I know that these
people need it but at least knowing that its not going to happen they
would be better off. Life can be hard and it’s times like these that my
prayers go out to those families. Hang in there and keep looking for
work, something good will happen, just don’t give up. Hopefully someday
it will all be a bad memory.

    • jkys

AND, they PAID PAID PAID for that insurance!!!!!!!!!With real money.

  • Narsha N.

Even one month of retro-benefits would help the families that have been cut-off from aid and jobless since December.

  • Clive Holmes

    Dear Mr Sanchez,

Why write reiterated crap? We KNOW where the bill stands. Please add NEWS to the discourse.

  • Guest

It appears you’re content with your way. Great! No one cares what happens to you. If you don’t want to be a doormat, don’t lay down. Doormats get kicked and walked on. memba dat.

    • guest

Sebastian, shut the f@ck up and stay out of their discussion you psycho troll!

  • Jim

We need these advocacy groups to tell Heller and Reed that a package without some form of retroactive benefits is unacceptable. Even if they would consider 3 to 4 months of retroactive benefits would be better than nothing. The States have already had mechanisms in place for its claimants since late December to handle the lump sum payments once legislation passed so don’t use that as an excuse for inaction! They need to either go big or go home! And there is no room for the latter! Heller and Reed have found money for the prospective five months so they are halfway there.

But for the additional retroactive benefits, why not simply move some of the funds from foreign aid allocations on a one time emergency basis if you have too? The aid would still be meeting its ultimate objective, which is to help those desperately in need, but more importantly, it would be helping those at home, particularly those veterans who are also hurting from this debacle and who have served in many of those territories where we usually send that aid! Another option, though not an ideal one is to temporarily remove some of the funding from one or a few of the plethora of ObamaCare incentives that are currently or expected to be in effect. It would be a very nominal amount at best! We are only looking at an additional 10 to 20 million dollars. That’s pennies in a trillion dollar economy!!!! We are desperate now!

If that isn’t workable, I’m sure there are some discretionary funds in Congress somewhere?! Every business and/or institution has them!! Second, attach that jobs training provision to the bill and one other provision that the house has sent over. Third, conference with both Obama and Boehner present together and DO NOT hold a press conference until you have gotten a positive result. Finally, pass it!! In sum, this new legislation can pass, if complacent, stubborn, and lazy Congress and Obama will stop being ideologues where citizens’ livelihoods are concerned and just allow for some flexibility as Boehner has been asking. As NIKE so eloquently puts it, “Just do it!” This is not the time for

    political posturing!

Again, any new bill MUST HAVE RETROACTIVE BENEFITS! I REPEAT, IT MUST HAVE SOME FORM OF RETROACTIVE BENEFITS! All advocates, activists, and lobbyists who are “allegedly” working on our behalf and reading this. You MUST STOP WITH THE THEATRICS ON THE STEPS OF THE CAPITOL EVERY WEDNESDAY AND INSTEAD MAKE THIS ABUNDANTLY CLEAR TO

BOTH HELLER AND REED!! “CONGRESSMAN WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR SINCERE EFFORTS BUT YOU EITHER NEED TO GO BIG OR GO HOME PERIOD! THE AMERICAN PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD ANYTHING LESS. THEY HAVE BEEN MORE THAN PATIENT AND ARE WILLING TO CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL YOU GET IT TOTALLY AND NOT PARTIALLY RIGHT!!! THEY

ARE COUNTING ON YOU!!! DON’T LET ERIC CANTOR’S FATE BECOMES YOURS TOO!!” I’m sure the last thing any member of Congress wants is 3 million unemployed and rapidly counting citizens with nothing else better to do to show up on Super Tuesday this fall and vote them out of office! Don’t think you’re “irreplaceable!” Gerrymandering and campaign funds can only get you

so far…Somebody will surely take the fall, if you don’t. Ask Cantor!

  • Jim

Now we just heard from CNN the economy declined by 2.9% much steeper than initially anticipated. I’m telling you this is only going to get much worse if EUC and retroactive benefits are not restored. Furthermore, where are all the fortune 500 companies on this issue? They should be championing this cause as well? Don’t they know every time the unemployed misses their payment on utility bills or don’t purchase necessities such as food and clothing at various merchants that this significantly undermines their profit margins too!! I understand that tax breaks are an important issue for their longevity and operations, but customers that can’t pay their bills is equally important too!!! They need to also start lobbying Congress to pass this legislation WITH retroactive benefits!

    • disqus_mE5TWatscH

Surprise Surprise – I guess the LT unemployed are no longer “invisible”.

  • Jim

This is probably one issue where Big business and the working class and/or poor have mutually shared interests! With that said, they along with the Chamber of Commerce should also be rallying Congress to immediately pass EUC with retroactive benefits. Otherwise, third quarter earnings will be even lower and they will be forced to again lay off more workers to shore up costs and satisfy their shareholders! So Big business, now that the horse is out the gate, you need to get on board!!!!

    • disqus_mE5TWatscH

Knew this would happen. People won’t spend money when they are scared to death of losing their house/apartment.

      • Jim

Correct, which is why Big Business should also worth with Congress to get this passed. Landlords and banks across America are not being stuck with properties they can no longer sell or rent at market rates. Thus, its in there interest to help get this legislation passed!

  • Sugi

My mother used to say “I’ll knock your heads together.” Someone needs to do that to Reid and Boehner. Neither of them gives a darn about the American people. All of Congress and the President are focusing on the wrong thing. If they add us back on their numbers will go up. That’s why they’re not renewing this. Just reading that free preschool starts at age 3 in England. We need to focus on education, infrastructure, social safety net, jobs in the US. Stop working for the 1% and work for the 100%

  • Stephen Beck

Mr Reid knows the House is not going to pass it. They are going to wait to see how the 2014 Elections are shoring up as far as polls and since they CLAIM the EUC issue isn’t even coming up in the races across the country they have no intention of even letting it go to a vote, yet they are getting ready to vote on a JOBS bill which EUC is not attached to it, and yet this is what Boehner said he wanted, but so why no EUC attachment. Their are some large companies pushing for it to pass too, believe it or not, Walmart is one of them. They say their sales have dropped because of expiration of EUC. I know down here in Florida, in the Tampa Bay area, they are still hiring the people that have been on EUC which is good, it may be less pay than we were making but it’s a job. My roommate was on EUC and was unemployed for over a year and they hired her. She became my roommate when she lost her home and her car and her and her 11 year old moved in with me, so now she can look to the future, but she is campaigning to get the EUC bill passed still to help the others out there in worse shape than herself.

    • Ralph

Sorry to hear about your roommate loosing everything, God bless her and family now and in the future .

  • disqus_mE5TWatscH

Can’t understand why they would pass EUC for newly unemployed, who were relatively unaffected, so they can go right from the 26th week into the extension; however they will not pass they retro for those people that were DEVASTATED over the past 5mos?????

    • pwpg06 .

But to go to war they will find the money.. a war that is just to defend the interests of Exxon, Halliburton, BP and Shell.. all INTERNATIONAL corporations.. For them there is money always but for us that PAY THE TAXES there isn’t ANY

Maybe they do not want “any” unemployment extension to pass because it would add back the 3.2 plus million to the unemployment rate and reflect the true numbers

    • Frank

Blame that on the Dems. The Republicans would love for the unemployment numbers to shoot back up, yet are so stubborn that they refuse to allow a vote on the extension. How dumb is that?

    • disqus_mE5TWatscH

Yes, it might come out that there are actually 5.5 million unemployed…

If it passes and is not retroactive, what happens to the people that have found a job in the last month or so? They should still receive the monies that are owed to them and only way to do that is for the EUC to be retroactive. They can’t just ignore them.

    • Darrell Peck

This is the real world and nothing is perfect. If you did find a job and missed out on some of the benefits lost you should feel that at least I have a job now. I would pay back every penny I have received from the extension for a job that paid half of what I used to make. Looking forward people that do have a job now should just smile and breath a whole lot easier.

    • Ralph

some people will get the benefit and some will be out of luck

  • Frank

There is utter clarity in what the new proposal offers (and doesn’t offer). It, if passed, would give a 5 month extension to those who are still without a job after exhausting their regular 26 weeks of unemployment. There definitely would not be any retroactive benefits. This, at least, would be a life line for so many of those who still need it. Of course, Boehner and other Republicans are still refusing to consider the newest proposal.

    • Wayne Heddinger

this will only help the ones newly cut off…all those who lost benefits will get some weeks pay but when that ends they will be in the same boat because it won’t be enough to get a home or a phone or a car that was lost over this 6 months…..most are collecting food stamps (they will be taken away once UI starts) and the same for general relief…now that money will have to come out of the new UI…they will never crawl out of the hole unless they luck out with a job unless they get the retro !

  • Ralph

If this goes until next election the Democrats will win the seat and will pass a bill that will pay back and present for the unemployed If we can hang on longer it would pay off.

    • Frank

The Dems are probably going to lose the House again. Every poll shows that. They may even lose the Senate. Why? Who knows. The Republican led House is clearly the worst ever. But even if the Dems were to win both, there would be no retro. That is long gone.

      • Ralph

that’s what the media want you to believe

  • barrnone

There is no reason the House shouldn’t allow a vote with over 3 million people in need of help. The strange thing is there’s been no coverage of the story on news channels and very little on blogs. It is the perfect cover for the GOP to ignore the bill again. So it is important we be prepared if they don’t allow a vote. We have to make the media aware we know they are part of the cover-up so I ask you to sign the petition to CNN and let them know they will be held accountable. We are getting closer to our goal of 1000 signatures with your help we can be there in a few days. So please sign our petition and share it with others.

A couple of days ago, CBS had on their website an article related to this issue. I urged people to make their voice heard on this blog. Know how many people offered comments on this most important issue? 14. and 5 of those comments were mine. I’m at a loss to explain the lack of participation by those who need it the most.

      • barrnone

Some people are paralyzed by lack of leadership. They wait for Washington to lead and when they don’t lead it strands people. Politicians only work for us when we tell them what to do otherwise they get big headed and greedy. Forget where they came from and who pays them.

        • Frank

Well, then people need to step up and tell them what to do. There has been a disheartening effort on the part of those in dire need. Without their participation, zilch will be done.

      • Wayne Heddinger

3.5 million by now probably do not have regular access to a computer with internet….most don’t have a home or car or either…internet went right after the phone went….priorities ya know !

        • Frank

You have a computer with internet. Did you participate and make your voice heard?

      • Julia Guarnagia

Many haven’t the basic necessities, never mind internet access. It was planned this way by cutting the unemployed off they have lost visibility.

        • Frank

Julia, you’re right. But for those who have the ability to do so, and don’t, it is a frustrating self defeating experience.

          • Todaysfate

No one cares until it’s someone they know and they don’t want to let them stay on their couch or raid their fridge. I hope there is some kind of tax loophole where those who have been taking care of the unemployed can get some of their own money back in april. Someone is going to pay for this one way or another, now, or later.

  • Ralph

Your not that smart to not realize that if we don’t help ,it going to cost use more on the long run and all we will be doing is making America become a third world country with more homeless people on the street and that means higher crime rate more tax dollars it will cost use.

    • Wayne Heddinger

you make no sense….hat I posted is FOR unemployment extensions but WITH retro….3.5 million of us won’t be helped by this bill unless the retro is included…weekly checks won’t be enough now to get us back to anywhere because it won’t give us enough to get a place to live or our car back….after 6 months we owe back payments on things that will be required before we can get things turned back on…down payments are now required for things….we’ll be here in 5 months in the same boat….retro helps us also to get to job interviews….

  • Ralph

If the Republican party don’t pass it there will be no Republican party after November , 3.5 million will vote Democrat and that will be the end of the Republican party

    • Frank

Just not true. House Republicans have repeatedly said that they feel no pressure of any kind and have not heard from their constituents.

      • Ralph

        watch in November

      • Wayne Heddinger

        so did Eric Cantor !

  • barrnone

They won’t pass it because they are impoverishing Americans. People are working for slave wages, the unemployment roles are shrinking because people can’t afford to look for jobs. The Dow is about to hit 17,000 so we know some are making money and this is planned. Want to see how bad the situation is visit my petition and read some of the comments. This is serious and we better do something about it now.

    • Frank

Petitions have been largely ignored by, surprise, those who truly need the extension. This includes a petition that the president would have been compelled to respond to had the 100,000 signatures needed been met. The petition fell short by 85,000. Where is the people’s participation where it counts?

      • Wayne Heddinger

petitions are a joke…especially since the president can’t make congress do a damn thing ! all the petitions to congress are going where ?…..same place the several bills for unemployment went…directly to the bottom of Boehner’s trash can !

  • document finesse

If this is your usual communication style, good luck finding anyone to employ you.

      • Disqus189781378

You really should seek mental help and stop spamming this B.S. You’re adopting the “misery loves company” mindset. “I lost everything since December, so everyone else should too if I don’t get MY retro!” Big baby gets, what big baby wants. Cry elsewhere troll.

          BLOW ME TROLL !

  • Mark Hall

Boehner is a drunken pig!! Did anyone see the Today show this morning with him being a drunken ass in that song thing!!!!

    • Frank

The sad truth is that this country would greatly benefit upon the demise of Boehner. It could help restore this country to American values. Unfortunately, Kevin McCarthy, who replaced Cantor, shares most of the country crippling values that Boehner does (including denying an extension)

      • erick

Kevin McCarthy is a tea party member. He plans to euthanize and cremate the long term unemployed along with other useless eaters, such as the elderly and disabled. The cremated remains will be given back to their families after and gold teeth are extracted and have Heinrich Himmler’s autograph on the jar.

  • lady j

Unfortunately, the majority of the unemployed new and older are not able to sign petitions. They are dealing with unpaid bills, rent, utilities off, loss of food ,homelessness,etc.. Trying to live, borrow, beg, public assistance etc. It will get worse every passing day, till it blows up in the government’s face.Republicans and Democrats both. You need money for transportation too to seek jobs,or a computer.Folks are been evicted,in shelters, committing crimes, suicidal and so much more desperate measures. I PRAY…

    • Frank

All true. But if you can respond on here you are able to sign a digital signature on a petition.

  • Ralph

In November the democrats will control the house and the senate and this will give them a slam dunk once again .

  • Sally Mendoza

    CONGRESS IS HEARTLESS!

  • Ralph

Good call, you got it right

    • Disqus189781378

Really? Maybe YOUR DUMBASS SHOULD LOOK IN THE MIRROR. Wayne is advocating that EUC doesn’t get reinstated unless it includes retro, NEWSFLASH: THAT WILL JUST HURT MORE AMERICANS DOWN THE LINE, but of coarse, you short sighted morons don’t see that. GOOD LUCK ON THE JOB SEARCH AS I’M SURE ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN WILL AVOID PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!

  • Sally Mendoza

I believe many Employers post positions already having an internal candidate ready to fill the job. I made the decision to enroll in evening classes since I only needed to complete one semester in order to obtain my A.S. degree. During the day, I search and apply for jobs. Obviously, I have not paid my tuition as yet (and I am dreading the consequences of that). As I am typing this, my stomach is loudly growling (which makes a couple of students sitting next to me laugh). I tell my stomach to please stop growling, but it does not listen.
Mr. Boehner, I very much realize the important of creating jobs but at this critical point unfortunately surviving is most important. Does it not make more sense for the Senate and/or House to review (vote) on bills for creating jobs THE DAY AFTER passing the EUC benefits bill? After all, how do we get to the new jobs with no car? How do we get to the new jobs when no monies for public transportation? How do we have energy for the new jobs with no food? How do we present a professional appearance with no home to s…, shower, and shave? As far as your other two demands: 1) the Senate found a way to fund the EUC benefits and 2) the Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez has put your administrative concerns to rest. Mr.Perez stated “that the bill is workable” and “… that the administrative burden is far less than the burdens confronting the long-term unemployed.” Mr.Boehner, I will pray that you do not allow your pride and your need to win to overshadow your admitting that your stubbornness is forcing thousands to be hungry, carless, and homeless. We, “the unemployed” millions must stand together and have a voice so that we can put political pressure on the House Republicans (since they have stated they feel little to no political pressure to pass the EUC benefits)!

    • Frank

      Well said.

    • Todaysfate

      I agree with Frank

  • Ralph

The more people fall into the pit of hell the more government programs they will be on and this is what the Democrats wants so they can control you with programs, now on he other hand the Republican want to ship jobs over seas and bring in cheaper labor , making you work for cheaper so they can make more money for them self ether way both parties want to control you one way or another

    • Diane Madison

The only thing that corporate fat cats want from the working class is the blood of their sons to fight for their foreign interests! The Republicans have nothing but loathing for anyone who is not a millionaire. At least Democrats have tried to do something……..not much….but more than any Republican has done.

  • jkys

Boobie face Boehner’s only moves are to save his own precious job. Can you blame him? Who else would hire this tanned excuse for a representative of the American worker? He is NOT working for America.

John Boehner won’t bring up the senate-passed unemployment compensation bill but he will take time to bring up legislation to sue Obama!!! WTF????? So, perhaps all of the unemployed who have lost EVERYTHING should file a class action lawsuit against Boehner and Congress. Anyone have a lawyer friend who could help out. And while we are talking about law suits how about a class action lawsuit filed by those long-term unemployed who are over the age of 50 who are facing blatant age discrimination as to being laid off and finding employment!

    • Frank

Diane, This what I wrote on CNN in response to this absurdity.

Really? Let’s take a case in point to show how Boehner has bypassed the democratic process: The Senate on April 7 approved an unemployment extension for more than 3.1 million families who’s benefits ran out after 26 weeks. It was a bipartisan vote that included 6 Republican Senators who supported the bill. These benefits were meant to be a life line to these struggling families and included military veterans, older displaced workers and parents trying to eke by with the minimal checks that would help keep them afloat while they continued to look for a job. When the Senate bill was sent to the House, Boehner and Cantor refused to allow a vote in the House on the approved bill thereby leaving millions in dire financial straits. Many of these people have lost everything. That is a tragic situation that occurred because of one man: John Boehner.

      • Larry king

Boehner should be in jail for crimes against humanity. I don’t know how long the speaker of the house has had the power to deny a bill to be voted on, but one person should never have the power to do something that effects so many people. John Boehner wants to sue the president for abusing his executive orders which he says is abusing his power. Well what the hell does boehner think he is doing when he doesn’t allow a vote? I agree with Diane Madison, the people should file a lawsuit against Boehner for abusing his power. What a f*cking hypocrite Boehner is. If the people of Ohio do not vote him out of office then something is wrong with them.

I have seen ppl from countries being given hundreds of thousands dollars for basic needs and millions just to help a few hundred ppl in other countries, we send millions to help ppl that would like nothing better than to see us die slowly, but when it comes to american families that are suffering and living on the streets our great government turns their back! This great country was started by families and until now families took care of each other. I have been unemployed for a year and have sent out 1000s of resumes but due to age descrimination that our great country ignores nothing yet. Im not a moocher i worked for 35 years paying taxes and now when i need help the most they want to have a power war and let all of the families in need suffer a little more.

These guys opposed to the EUI payments who want to create jobs instead. Guess what? I’d like that too. But while that’s happening and while it takes time to create jobs, I’d also like to not have my car repossessed and my phone not shut off and all my belongings thrown into a storage shed. I’d also like to not create hardship on all my family and friends who barely get by themselves feeling like they have to keep me from living out on the streets. In my opinion if you don’t want to give ME money to get by you owe the people who have. Congress. Understand what you are doing to the America people on a human level and not just a numbers one. What I don’t get is how these guys don’t come up with some job creation ideas themselves but demand that someone else does. Are these republicans NOT congressman too? Here is the reason. There are no “job provisions”. Unless they are willing to start telling employers who to hire and when. Start telling employers to take people who they know can do the work even if they don’t have a work history that supports it. Make them hire people who are out of benefits FIRST. Force them to put young, healthy people in the labor intensive jobs and people who are less capable behind the desk. Yeah that’s right. Kinda like socialism. Well … we can’t do that so its congresses job to do what they CAN do, which in this case is help people avoid the hardship. Cut the checks until there are jobs. Period. Before this becomes a humanitarian issue for millions.

  • Todaysfate

It should be obvious that no one on either side of the aisle wants this done or it would have been done. Period. I can’t think of anything ELSE that money needs to be spent on right now, or 6 months ago that is more pressing or important. NOTHING. …. But dang it if you’re down to your last dollars and you are lucky enough to have your car paid off … they’ll still insist that you have to be able to afford car insurance to drive it. Or insist that you take that small unemployment check and remember to give them income tax out of it. It’s ridiculous. …. They can fix this problem OVERNIGHT if they want to. And the media seems to rub this in with glee. As if to push on people the fact that it’s all about numbers and politics, and reputation and that it’s RIGHT that it’s that way. It’s wrong. The media plays both sides like these are contestants on some kind of reality show. That picture of Reid at the top would be funny if I wasn’t going to loose my car in about a month after paying the loan down about 50%. My entire extended family is suffering from stress and hardship over my unemployment. You wonder why people are going off the deep end. That’s what the government is supposed to help its people avoid. Its disgusting.

We need the extension! There are no decent jobs especially if you are over 55. Give Boehner the darn job creation – I am a frustrated Obama voter – what’s the big deal? The trolls are invading this room coming here to cause problems and to add more stress to the long term unemployed’s lives. If that is all you have to do is to come here and bother people you might want to get a life that has some meaning. We are all American’s and should not be bickering with one another. With so many unemployment studies and forecasts one would think that US government officials would have enough sense to foresee all of the problems that will result from not extending the emergency unemployment benefits. Sometimes one has to spend a little money to save a lot of money. This is not money that is coming from politicians pockets, this is money coming from the hard working Americans who have paid into the Unemployment Insurance Compensation Fund so the funds are available for periods of unemployment. I am one of the middle-aged unemployed with no income and stressed out about how I am going to keep a roof over my head until I find a job. I just interviewed with Sears for a part-time job that pays minimum wage. I received this nice letter saying how impressed they were with my qualifications but I did not make it to the second interview (I earned a bachelor’s degree in 2012). Congress and the politicians we pay to represent us need to approve the extended emergency unemployment funds but they also need to do something about employers who are not paying fair wages to their employees. Employers are taking advantage of people who are desperate for any employment by offering part-time low wage employment. Children of the long-term unemployed are suffering also because their basic needs are not being met. We need these emergency unemployment benefits in order to sustain our households while searching for a job.

  • sue

What they are not getting is, millions of people who fell off their radar with no job..They are not paying taxes, sooner or later money will be lost somewhere..Until they wake up millions go without money for bills and lose their houses ect…Its a game of power, until they start losing..
