Sen. Mark S. Kirk said in a jarring video circulated late Friday that President Barack Obama’s Iran policy is leading to nuclear war.

The video, posted on Youtube and available through the Illinois Republican’s official website, features a background of a “60 Minutes”-style ticking clock and highlights news reports about the state of the negotiations between the international community and Iran on nuclear programs.

“The administration policy is the quickest policy that leads to war, nuclear war. That is a horrible fate to condemn American children to witness,” Kirk said in the video.

It was circulated on Twitter not long after negotiators announced an extension of the Iran talks that will push the issue past November’s mid-term election.

Kirk said in the video that the sanctions were designed to make sure that passage of time worked against Iranian nuclear development. Kirk had previously drafted bipartisan sanctions legislation with Foreign Relations Chairman Robert Menendez, D-N.J.

“As time runs out … we need to block Iran’s path to a bomb,” the video says.

Senior senators were briefed about the Iran talks Thursday afternoon, one day ahead of the formal announcements by Secretary of State John Kerry and others that the talks would be extended until Nov. 24.

“As a result, we have decided – along with the EU, our P5+1 partners, and Iran – to extend the Joint Plan of Action until November 24, exactly one year since we finalized the first step agreement in Geneva. This will give us a short amount of additional time to continue working to conclude a comprehensive agreement, which we believe is warranted by the progress we’ve made and the path forward we can envision,” Kerry said in a detailed statement.

The State Department says that Kerry is scheduled to appear on five Sunday morning talk shows, where it would be no surprise to see the video of Kirk’s comments make an appearance.

Other lawmakers weighed in with statements Friday evening, including Foreign Relations ranking member Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who said in part “I urge the administration to make it clear there will be no more extensions, which would only further diminish our leverage.”

Intelligence Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein backed the extension of time, citing “momentum toward an agreement.”

“The P5+1 negotiations with Iran represent our best chance to peacefully ensure Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon, and I very much hope they are successful. Over the past 6 months, Iran has complied with the terms of the interim agreement and the U.S.-led sanctions regime has kept the economic pressure on Iran,” the California Democrat said. “While significant progress has been made, it is clear more time is needed to reach a final agreement. I strongly support an extension of these talks because a diplomatic agreement is far better than any alternative.”

Senator Mark Kirk is right. The Islamic Republic has been given years to come clean and halt its ideological and regional hegemonic ambitions of obtaining nuclear weapons. Nevertheless, the Obama administration believes that we need to give the Islamic Republic another chance, trusting the ruling clerics and the theocracy. The Ayatollah and Mullahs were given that chance, six months of negotiations, and sanctions relief in oil, metal, and financial sectors— including the flow of billions of dollars to their regime. Iran has been buying time and fooling us.

“as been given years to come clean and halt its ideological and regional hegemonic ambitions of obtaining nuclear weapons.”
How can you and Kirk be right if after so many years they have still not produced a nuclear weapon, yet you insist they are?

Please ignore this MEK hired troll.

I have challenged this him many times in the past.

“Iran has been buying time and fooling us.”
And he is getting smart too. An Iranian disguised as American.

Have you been paying attention? BOTH parties have been supporting Islamist terrorists for the past several years and they continue to do so. The Demopublicans are equally disgusting.

Kirk is not normally a complete idiot, but these are not normal times. What an asinine remark.

Kirk, an avid Israel & Bibi supporter are leading us to War with Iran. Bibi started asking for permission to bomb Iran when Bush was president. It’s a yearly event that presidents face from Israel. Israel does not have all the equipment so they would need US help. Our INTEL Depts say Iran is not near breakout, but the Congress’ loyalty to Israel, makes them infer otherwise. Truly a sick relationship!

Kirk has not been honest in the past, especially about Awards he has received.

Shame on both the Republicans & Democrats for failing to pass the Unemployment Extension Bill for the more than three million unemployed families, who have been without benefits since late last December. Both parties have failed these unemployed Americans miserably. For more than seven months now, these families have continued to fall into financial ruin & deep poverty. These workers thought that both parties would eventually do the just and morally correct thing, and pass the bill in the senate. But that was sadly not what happened. The Republican senate were too busy fighting on behalf of their “supporter” the Koch Brother’s oil pipeline bill. They have clearly made it known just for whom their party answers to, and whom they support. And it is not you or I my friends. The Democrats too have chosen to give up and walk away from these millions of unemployed families. They have shown a total lack of resolve and integrity. In the coming elections, we the people, need to clean house. We need to elect “public servants” again, Remember them? They’re the ones that “serve” the public.

Republicans have no principles, ethics or morality. There is nothing they will not say or do, no matter how detrimental it may be to our country, just to smear President Obama. Voting the republicans out of Congress is the most important thing Americans can do to restore civility, decency and effectiveness to our political process.

Kirk’s remarks are irresponsible and make no sense. A nuclear war between who exactly? Kirk may be carrying water for Netanyahu who wants American to launch yet another Asian land war, because Israel doesn’t really have the wherewithal to successfully go to war with Iran on it’s own.

A verifiable deal to make sure Iran never builds nukes is in everybody’s interest, and a rapprochement between America and Iran could help stabilize the region.

Bombing the hell out of nuclear power plants just 500 miles from Russia’s border is much more likely to lead to nuclear war. Americans must realize they are led by mad men who want to police the world at best, and for many just assert their white anglo domination.
