Mark Udall’s Son Arrested for Heroin Possession, Plans to Seek Treatment

The 26-year-old son of Colorado Democratic Sen. Mark Udall was arrested Wednesday on charges including heroin possession, according to local news reports.

“Maggie and I are deeply distressed to learn of our son’s arrest. We love our son and stand with him in his commitment to getting the treatment he needs,” Udall said in a statement. “We appreciate the private space to deal with this as a family.”

The Daily Camera reported that Jedediah Lee Fox-Udall, who goes by Jed, was arrested in Boulder County, Colo., after sheriff’s deputies encountered him after allegedly trying to break in to three vehicles. The sheriff told the newspaper that the deputies found the heroin in one of the younger Udall’s pockets.

Jed Udall was booked at the Boulder County Jail before being released. According to the jail’s records, he was charged with three counts of first-degree trespassing, as well as one count of possession of a controlled substance.

The knowledge unleashed through citizens’ liberty is far superior to that which could ever be available to centralized state administrators.

The heroin/opiate epidemic is destroying our country. Opiate overdoses now outnumber motor vehicle accidents as the leading cause of death for our children. For too long we allowed pharmaceutical companies to aggressively market highly addictive opiate painkillers, turning a 30million business into a 3 billion business which largely profited from pill mills doling out prescriptions which were diverted or resold for abuse to our kids. These drugs have fully infiltrated the white middle class, top prep schools and colleges and have led directly to heroin addiction and desperate criminal behavior in those addicted. We need to immediately ban the continued manufacture of these opiates, increase public awareness, improve access to detox, rehab and transitional sober living facilities or we are doomed.
