Sen. Rand Paul has joined the calls for President Barack Obama to seek congressional approval for an extended military campaign to fight Islamic State forces in Iraq.

The Kentucky Republican’s statement via Twitter followed comments made Tuesday at a luncheon meeting in Louisville, which were recorded by local news outlet cn|2.

“Constitutionally, he should come forward with a plan to Congress and we vote for it or against it. It’s the same way with, you know, bombing Libya, war with Libya or bombing Iraq,” Paul said. “With regard to Iraq … I have an open mind as to exactly what we do.”

Paul said he was open-minded to a variety of U.S. actions, including targeted airstrikes and assistance to the Iraqi government to fight against the threat of the group known as ISIS or ISIL.

“It shouldn’t be done unilaterally by our president,” Paul said.

On Tuesday, Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., issued a statement saying that Obama needed to seek approval from Congress.

I have a decent proposal of a site I simply discovered called Traders Superstore, simply do a quest for them he ought to have the capacity to discover them. I suggest these fellows in light of the fact that there course material is choice and their help is the best I’ve ever seen on the Internet. These gentlemen consider important showing individuals how to exchange and I’m exceptionally joyful to propose them to anybody intrigued by figuring out how to exchange for themselves, it truly is an extremely lucrative business.

Paul is right, but a debate among our leaders? There are no leaders in Washington D.C.

Sorry Rand, but this is covered by the bill that permitted the invation of Iraq in 2002/3. But, Obama was incompetent not negotiating a status of forces agreement. His derliction of duty is what has given ISIS the ability to fill the vacuum created when he ran away…this is his fault.

Now it’s going to take 2-3 Divisions on the ground in order to fix what he FUBAR’d…

ISIS is unique in that it has declared itself to be a state and announced its intention to attack the continental US as soon as it can. We would be perfectly justified in declaring war on it with the object of its complete destruction: no need for a carefully-worded AUMF this time.

We will, of course, do no such thing because our government is not, for the moment, being run by serious people. Humorless, yes, but not serious.

In August of 2013, John McCain and Lindsey Graham were adamantly insisting that the US to provide weapons to ISIS.
