Rand Paul’s Immigration Demand Likely Came Too Late

Sen. Rand Paul’s call to have an immigration markup in the Homeland Security panel isn’t getting much traction.

Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs ranking member Tom Coburn of Oklahoma agreed with his counterpart from Kentucky on Tuesday, saying the panel should consider the bipartisan “gang of eight” immigration overhaul bill. Coburn said he thought the committee erred in not taking procedural steps to hold a markup.

“We should have asked for a sequential referral because so much of it is going to impact the agency that’s under this committee,” the Oklahoma Republican said at a hearing Tuesday.

But Chairman Thomas R. Carper, D-Del., said in a brief interview that any sequential referral, under Senate rules, would need to get unanimous consent on the Senate floor, meaning that any single senator could object to such a request.

Carper referenced Sen. Ted Cruz’s Monday evening objection to getting to a budget resolution conference as an example. At the Tuesday hearing, Carper said he would look into the referral question with leadership.

“Needless to say, the many questions relating to this legislation, not only the ones raised by the events in Boston, are more numerous than can be suitably included in this letter,” Paul wrote in a Monday letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

“I believe the immigration bill should also be amended and refined by HSGAC,” Paul wrote. “Having HSGAC also markup the immigration reform bill will only make the bill stronger and our nation safer.”

The only expected markup of the immigration bill is set to kick off Thursday at the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senators are filing amendments in advance of that marathon event; some of the first amendments released address local concerns.

For instance, Chairman Patrick J. Leahy, D-Vt., filed an amendment Monday to bar border crossing fees, a particular issue in Vermont where people routinely drive to and from Canada. Freshman Democrat Mazie Hirono got in on the act with a series of amendments she says are important to Hawaii.

“These changes would pump millions into Hawaii’s economy by boosting foreign tourism, make good on our promises to those who served our nation and fix a longstanding competitive disparity between mainland and Hawaii fishermen,” Hirono said in a statement.

WHAT IS PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS ADMINISTRATION, PLUS THE REPUBLICANS DRIVING INTO? ANOTHER IMMIGRATION MESS?

Every American should scrutinize the uncomfortable
details of S.744, as hidden in the terminology given Homeland Security
Secretary Janet Napolitano “Carte Blanche” on provisions, so she has complete discretion
of handling the security at the border. Upsetting as it maybe, the real fencing
was never built according to the legislation of upgrading on former Presidents Bush’s
watch. The two parallel east to west fences was compromised by Texas Senator
Kay Bailey Hutchinson; taking away the funding? This inevitably been one of the
prime reason, this country is inundated with illegal immigrants from across the
border. The Gang of 8, better revitalize this double layer fence, so
enforcement from illegal aliens and criminals is their paramount goals? It
should be essential that the U.S. Border Patrol has full access and a right to
take out spotters persons on mountains, who are being used to inform drug
cartels of the agents whereabouts, and no place along the border should be out
of bounds to this enforcement, including tribal and national park sectors.

    Although the
use of the electronic E-Verify detection program has had much success and that
if this impending Amnesty is enacted, mandatory E-verify would cut back on unauthorized
workers stealing jobs. However, Congress should review a national biometric ID
card and its major attributes that although expensive to issue to all Americans,
overtime would far outweigh the cost of this official identity card. It would
significantly halt foreign nationals from being hired, stop voter fraud so no
non citizen would be equipped with this card and only people who had been
verified with the ID card, would be able to attain credit. Other possibilities
would surface such as insurance, weapons purchase and even car registration.
Such a document would identify the user to clerks and officials for welfare and
other entitlements. Of course there are critics that have much to say about
privacy and civil rights, but in truth our freedoms are already under this
administration to take away our right to bear arms, and take away our basic
    rights.

ALREADY ILLEGAL ALIENS THROUGH THEIR IMMEDIATE
CITIZEN CHILDREN ARE COLLECTING FOOD STAMPS, WELFARE, HEALTH CARE, SCHOOLING
AND CASH PAYMENTS, THAT THE PARENTS NEVER PAID A CENT TOO? THIS IS JUST ANOTHER
PAYOUT CRAFTILY ADMINISTERED TO BY PRESIDENT OBAMA AGENCIES AND PREVIOUS
ADMINISTRATIONS. DEMAND FROM YOUR WASHINGTON POLITICIANS THAT ONLY CHILDREN OF
AT LEAST ONE CITIZEN PARENT, GUARANTEES U.S. CITIZENSHIP. We have been shackled
to this part of the misinterpreted law for decades, when it was only to award
the successors of the Civil War slaves.

NOW WE MUST ACT or we will sponsor our own financial
demise/? Hundreds of billions of dollars
are collected through taxes to support illegal aliens, when these huge amounts
should go towards a leaking Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid (for citizens,
not illegal foreigners) mental health and a whole range of other things.

NOW is the time to begin an incessant offensive on
all politicians at the state and federal level of government? Specifically to every
U.S. senator, not just the so-called “Gang of Eight” and urge them, no demand
no comprehensive immigration Reform and NO path to citizenship. Many senators
are doing everything achievable to pretend there would be no mind boggling tax
hikes for making some 80 federal welfare programs plus all entitlements
available to millions of mostly uneducated, low-skilled illegal aliens. These
U.S. Senators have themselves unfortunately collected an earful from plenty of
billionaires and special-interest lobbyists, unions, who stand to make huge
profits or gain some advantage from a concession labor facet of this amnesty. You only have to listen to prominent,
seriously minded Senators as Jeff Sessions of Arkansas that this bill called Border
Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act or S.744,
    has major problems.

There are approximately 400 waivers, exemptions and
hidden advantages for illegal immigrants, but a financial death knell for
taxpayers. The Heritage Foundation has just released its latest analysis of the
amnesty provisions of the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill. Top analyst Robert
Rector has determined that if the 11 million illegal aliens living in the
United States receive amnesty, it will have a net cost to taxpayers of $6.3
Trillion! Call your Members of Congress toll-free — 1-888-978-3065 — and tell
them about the costs and urge them to oppose amnesty. Now, right now each
Senator needs to hear from millions of taxpayers who say NO to promote that
“cheap” labor with $6.3 trillion price tag. We hope citizens are
making sure that their Senators’ phones are ringing off the hook, or free faxes
at numbersusacom jamming the core switchboard in Washington,
with messages of pressure from THE PEOPLE and not the corporate welfare special
    favors division of this administration.
