Reid Calls on GOP to Condemn Cliven Bundy

(Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call)

(Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., wants Republicans to condemn Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy for making racist remarks first quoted by the New York Times.

“Today, Bundy revealed himself to be a hateful racist. But by denigrating people who work hard and play by the rules while he mooches off public land he also revealed himself to be a hypocrite,” Reid said in a statement Thursday.

Bundy’s comments began with the remark: “I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro.”

“They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy?” Bundy said, according to the New York Times report. “They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

For his part, Reid has repeatedly called the Bundy supporters at the ranch “domestic terrorists,” standing by that term during a joint TV appearance with fellow Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev.

Heller had called the same supporters “patriots.” However, his spokeswoman Chander Smith told the Times that Heller “completely disagrees with Mr. Bundy’s appalling and racist statements, and condemns them in the most strenuous way.”

In his statement Thursday, Reid said the rule of law should trump any political disagreements over the grazing fees.

“To advance his extreme, hateful views, Bundy has endangered the lives of innocent women and children. This is not a game. It is the height of irresponsibility for any individual or entity in a position of power or influence to glorify or romanticize such a dangerous individual, and anyone who has done so should come to their senses and immediately condemn Bundy,” said Reid. “For their part, national Republican leaders could help show a united front against this kind of hateful, dangerous extremism by publicly condemning Bundy.”

Here is the video of Bundy’s remarks posted by liberal group Media Matters:

Reid is a lair and a thief. He has some nerve. He and his family along with his former business partner stand to make a lot of money on this deal. Partner now is the head of BLM.
If Reid’s involvement in this communist land grab had not been revealed he would have pressured the BLM to make an example of those innocent women and children he speaks of. What a scum bag. So sick of the corrupt evil goons permeating our government

    • RA

And one more thing. Even if Bundy was in the wrong does that make it OK for a federal agency to send in a paramilitary organization? Threaten innocent protesters, set up a “free speech zone” and kill his cattle and bury in a mass grave? Damn right it doesn’t!!
This should have been handled by the courts and the local sheriff.

      • View From The Left

This WAS handled by the Courts! Don’t you get that? Mr. Bundy and his militia supporters are NOT INNOCENT PROTESTORS! They are DEFYING Court orders! The Courts have ruled on this, Mr. Bundy had his chance to present his case in court AND HE LOST! What about that don’t you understand?
This is a FEDERAL ISSUE, not a state issue so having a sheriff handle this is not proper.

        • ShadrachSmith

          That was gibberish.

          • View From The Left

Please, tell me what was “gibberish” because everything I listed is FACT! 4 separate courts have head the case and ruled in the BLM’s favor.
Sorry that you find facts to be “gibberish”, I guess that’s what you say when you have no facts to counter with.

          • ShadrachSmith

The incident at Bundy Ranch is about the Feds protecting turtles with snipers. Shooting Americans is an evil to be avoided, not a land management tool to be justified.

You are talking about things altogether unrelated to the justifiable outrage about the incident at Bundy Ranch, then declaring the subject closed. Your arguments avoid the question raised, hence, gibberish – with acceptable punctuation true – but pointless gibberish nonetheless.

          • red_tide

            No his analysis is correct.

        • kktex12

A crooked court that refused to recognize legally purchased land deeds. The government is not free to seize legally purchased land without just and fair compensation. Period.

          • View From The Left

4 different courts looked at that claim and found it not to be true. The Bundy family bought the land in 1948, the BLM was formed in 1946! He has no “grandfather rights” as he claims, in fact Bundy claims that he doesn’t recognize the Federal Government in the first place. You do know that, right?
As far as you claim of the Courts being “crooked”, please provide proof or you are a blatant liar!

          • lorri

Actually the Bundy’s settled those lands in the 1800’s. And BLM, as well as those that went along with this were in violation of many laws and should be arrested. The BLM are puppets for UNESCO look it up. It’s all part of the UN Agenda 21 land grab. If you want truth then dig.

        • D Books

From the information I have, this was not decided upon by “the courts”. Which “courts” supposedly ordered the BLM to use paramilitary force to take the grazing rights away from cattle who have used it for many, many years?? The BLM acted on their own at the direction of Reid, who negotiated a corrupt deal to make millions off of another use of that land just like he did with the electrical transformer relocation deal……..

          • View From The Left

Wrong, Both state and federal courts have looked at this issue and ruled AGAINST Mr. Bundy.

Here is the timeline of what happened: what is REALLY going on in this case:

You see, when you make a claim like I did (that numerous courts have ruled in this case) you should be able to provide a link to that evidence. So I’m calling you out right here and now: what evidence do you have that “The BLM acted on their own at the direction of Reid, who negotiated a corrupt deal to make millions off of another use of that land just like he did with the electrical transformer relocation deal…..”
Time to put up or shut up, liar!

          • lorri

Washington Post doesn’t even have a clue as to what is really going on.

        • lorri

Not so much. Article 1 Section 8 limits the feds to ten square miles. US Code Title 4: 72 does as well. This is corporation vs country. What am I talking about? The “United States” is a corporation see US Code Title 28: 3002 section 15 (a) (b) (c), not to be confused with “The United States of America” which is our country.

The BLM works under UNESCO and works for the “corporation” they have NO right, nor title to the land. They stole it and are continuing to steal it for the international globalist elite.

This is not a “federal issue” it is a state issue as the federal government has no authority to the land! They are not to exceed ten square miles which is the District of Columbia.

He lost? No, he lost only by a “federal judge” that works in the interest of the “federal corporation” aka federal government. They only have authority over the “federal” not States, all states retain their sovereignty.

      • pitch1934

Maybe, just maybe because they bragged about being armed and being ready to use them. HMMMMM?

that would be $10.10 more than a government leeching POS like you.

  • ggm281

For sure this guy is the first octogenarian to express an idea that is offensive and on the “wrong side of history”. You can tell Americans don’t spend too much time with their elderly relatives (much less “serving” in retirement homes) it they found this guy’s comment “outrageous”. Old people not only have often antiquated viewpoints but their internal censor tends to disappear after about 78-80, and they say all sorts of crap that they wouldn’t have at 60. Makes you wonder if Hillary is too old to be President doesn’t it??
Now go visit your granny at the home.

    • kktex12

He told the truth. Wrong side of history? I don’t think so. By the way, you do realize their were black slave owners don’t you?

  • brunsk42

It’s only hate speech because you don’t agree,, well i happen to agree with him that the government does not have there best interest in mind since there poverty rates continue to rise. You are paying them lip service for votes…

  • ShadrachSmith

Reid is as evil as politicians get. Who does he hate this time?

  • MrRedNeckParadise

When politicians and pundits decided that standing up for Bundy’s right to free speech will cost them advertisers and political donors, he had to go under the bus. iow, they weren’t really supporters, at all. They were using him, in much the same way that Reid, Rory, Neil and the BLM used him.

You don’t have to like Cliven Bundy’s views on life, the universe or nothing at all. But reviling him and dismissing his case on the basis on his mere opinions and beliefs? Dismissing and denying his right to freedom on the basis of your distaste for his having opinions that you simply do not like or accept?? Because your feelings are hurt? What are you thinking? You must be insane, yourselves.

Many of you have called for the death of Cliven Bundy and the deaths of his family…for simply resisting the fascism which you all claim to hate more than anything on earth. The very fascism you now support and defend. You are no longer supporting freedom and liberty. Your friends on the right are certainly no better, for they also engage in such insanity while claiming to know all about freedom and liberty and it’s history in the United States. Both sides support and openly endorse tyranny…but only if their side is in charge.

You do know that you’ve become fascists? Under fascism, which is the ‘marriage’ of corporations and government, no man can defy the state. Yes, Democrats are as fascist as Pubbies. Have you noticed that politicians become wealthy while in public office? Dems have a slight lead in that race of corruption. There is a reason for that outcome, and it has nothing to do with freedom or liberty or The Constitution. This is tyranny.

When a politician can’t become an elected official without corporate ‘sponsorship’? When corporate lobbyists write legislation (which they often do)? When billionaires, like Soros, Koch, Steyer, Gates and Buffet guide and influence our foreign and domestic policy? When such corporations and billionaires can buy their way out of any trouble with the state? When laws are written to benefit the wealthy and the politically connected in both parties? When the same laws punish everyone else? When politicians enact laws that exempt themselves from the same laws that punish you, your friends and family members? When an individual citizen is punished and reviled for resisting such corruption? All of these things, and much more, tell us that we’re not living in a nation of free men. We’re living in a fascist state. We’re living in an oligarchic, fascist tyranny.

…and people like you – on both sides – willingly endorse fascism and support a corrupt political class, while unwittingly fighting against freedom and individual liberty.

When the rule of law is subverted by political corruption, corporations and billionaires, there is no rule of law. There is only tyranny. Under fascism, there is only slavery to the state and to the billionaires and corporations which have bought and paid for that state. You’re all slaves, already. Each and very one of you.

The Senate needs to condemn Harry Reid, the way they condemned Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy was a red baiter. Reid is a race baiter. Main difference is Reid personally profits from his race baiting.

    • View From The Left

I think you confuse Harry Reid with Cliven Bundy and his supporters, they are the racists in this case.
Sad and pathetic that you don’t understand that.
Let me guess, you’re white. Right?
      Yeah, I thought so.

Did Mitch McConnell “call on” the Democrats to condemn Nidal Hasan or Ivan Lopez for shooting soldiers at Ft. Hood? What media would print the report if he did?
There are courts to deal with this. It’s not a matter for congress. It’s just the crook Reid doing what he usually does — nothing for the people of the USA and everything for himself and his cronies.

  • Chip

And yet he never called upon Democrats to condemn Al Sharpton….

  • lorri

Reid is a liar and a domestic terrorist. This video was clipped. Here is the full video. Reid can count down the days before he is arrested with his involvement in this UN Agenda 21 land grab. He just wants to turn the attention to “false racism” because all the other lies and propaganda hasn’t worked. Surprise, surprise, right. We wouldn’t want to bring out that they are massively grabbing land across the United States illegally, or that Harry Reid is neck deep and swimming in corruption, or that the BLM was guilty of Grand Larceny, assault on unarmed women, pregnant women, and that they were illegally armed to the teeth ready to comply with another Waco type siege. Thank GOD America didn’t let that corrupt paid off mafia politician get by with it this time, as Waco did leave 76 that were burned alive by our government (that were just following orders). Here is the full video.

Open letter to Harry Reid from “One Domestic Terrorist to Another” This is powerful and truthful.

If the greatest dangers to liberty lurk in encroachment by men of zeal, then today’s key threats to liberty are centralized administrators.

I can’t believe that after ALL of this time, and after break after break, we still have no extension bill passed in the senate. This proves that the republican party never had ANY intention to pass this bill REGARDLESS of what concession was offered to them. These republican senators have shown their true distain for the poor people in this country. There can be no other explanation for their lack of total compassion and empathy with those in our country who are hurting financially in one of the worse recessions in many years. As a “FORMER” republican, I’m shocked and disappointed by the party that once was my own. I will NEVER EVER vote for a republican again in the future, and will encourage family and friends to do the same. The republican party has lost it’s way and are no longer relevant to it’s constituents. Just what kind of game are they playing here? When we have more than two million families out of work, without any benefits, struggling from day to day to keep a roof over their children’s heads, and food on the table, they’re playing party politics? These senators are heartless, soulless, bureaucrats, who do not care about you and me, but ONLY themselves and their party. We need to make a huge change in the next elections, and make sure that the republicans are never in charge again to do this sort of thing to helpless people
