Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., pledged to have the Senate act on a new unemployment extension if bipartisan talks lead to a deal.

Reid said he hasn’t given up trying to renew emergency unemployment insurance benefits, which expired in December.

He praised the work of Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., who has been working with Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., to restore the benefits, so far without success. Nevada and Rhode Island have the two highest unemployment rates in the nation.

“My colleague from Nevada, Dean Heller, has been stellar on this,” Reid said. “He has talked about it at least once a week. What he is doing is scrambling to get few more Republicans.”

“Of course anytime that Sen. Heller makes any progress on this we’ll bring it back because people are just as [in need of aid] as they were two months ago,” Reid said.

Heller said this week that the issue continues to be a priority for him.

“Our staffs are talking, we continue to try to find legislation that we can attach something prospectively to,” Heller said.

One possible vehicle could be the highway bill that Congress must renew before the end of the summer.

Heller and Reed drafted a five-month extension that was retroactive to December when benefits were first cut off. The cost of the bill was fully offset using a combination of revenue raisers that includes extending “pension smoothing” provisions from the 2012 highway bill and extending customs user fees through 2024.

The Senate passed the bipartisan measure in April, but the Republican-led House never acted on the bill citing the difficulty for states to implement the measure, and frustration over the lack of action on House-passed bills designed to spur job creation in the Senate.

Reid’s comments came as he and other Senate Democratic leaders touted legislation, drafted by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., to allow the refinancing of student loan debt refinance into lower interest rates. The Senate is expected to take up the bill next week.

The measure is part of Democrats’ “fair shot” agenda, and is unlikely to be supported by Republicans, in part, because it would be paid for with a new tax on millionaires.

Given the expected GOP opposition, Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., the number three Senate Democrats, said that Democrats were open to a different offset.

“But if our Republican colleagues want a different pay-for … we welcome to step forward,” Schumer said.

The student loan bill does not include an unemployment extension.

Okay, Im going to vent. If the local Presbyterian Church denies my emergency request for $700 dollars I will be losing my apartment, that I share with my 13 year old daughter, I am a single dad who lost EUC benefits on January 4, 2014. Since then I’ve been applying for jobs everyday, selling my belongings and kids old stuff to pay rent and have food. My rent is past due, my car is past due.

EUC folks have been mopped through the mud by wishy washy Senators, President, Labor, Dems, GOP. These benefits had been renewed 11 times over 8 years, starting in the GOP Bush administration! Unemployement is worst now than when the program began.

The RenewUI bill is fully paid for. The tax extender bill which Obama threatened to veto due to House EUC fillibuster, passed. That bill had a 9 million dollar depreciation of racing horses built into it, along with over 80 billion dollars in corporate tax breaks, NOT PAID FOR.

SO Obama will negotiate with terrorists for 1 AWOL soldier and a bunch of Al Qaeda thugs, but he cannot negotiate with Congress to get 3 million AMERICANS their much needed assistance?

God, I never been a religious man, but I need that $700 from the church.

    • DJMiles

Last person were going to get help from to extend unemployment is Obama
.. Their is a reason he refuses to accept a compromise or do anything to get EUC restored and you could see that reason if you look at the unemployment rate from December until now…Obama ended EUC in December for the simple reason to drastically lower the unemployment rate during a election year that Democrats are predicted to lose ! high unemployment has plagued his entire time in office and after seeing the result of what happen in North Carolina when they ended EUC last year he decided to end the program and as u see the rate went from 7.4% to 6.1% ….Me and you both know that the rate dropped so much because 3 million of us are no longer counted but that’s not what Democrats will be saying in November ….They are attributing the drastically lower rate on the Obama recovery

      • disqus_mE5TWatscH

I’ll never understand why they do not count those that are still calling in for EUC – they HAVE to have a pencentage on this, as our state still requests you to call in for when benefits are passed. WHAT IS THAT PERCENTAGE????? Stop giving us only the pencentage of USA that is only on the 1st 6 months!

        • DJMiles

Is your state still allowing you to file bi-weekly claims for EUC?

          • Wayne Heddinger

California doesn’t let you keep filing…so you are not counted like in most states they just disappear into thin air

          • Arrest Obama

            Sucks..

          • DJMiles

My state PA let us continue to file until a few days ago May 31st so some of us in PA were still being counted….Thing is tho the last day to apply for EUC was Jan 2nd so anyone who exhausted Regular unemployment after that date could not get onto EUC and haven’t been being counted….Still the impact on PA’S UI rate was significant Dec was 6.9% and April down to 5.7% May numbers not released yet but will take even a bigger plunge in July when June numbers are out since we can’t file by weekly claims now…These numbers are 100% inaccurate and Obama or any politician should not be able to reference them….PA seen a lot more new UC claims this year then jobs created in fact Jan- March were the worst months since 2009 so realistically the Unemployment rate should have gone up.

          • Arrest Obama

I am filing out of NV.

I don’t live there any longer, due to my fiancee finding a job elsewhere.

I still file every week even though the website says to not file. I am not giving up. And either way, I wish to be counted.

I got an interview last week, and a no. I applied at a place we eat and, I got no answer or call back.

Then I got 6 emails stating

‘I am out of the country and will pay you $250 a week to get my mail and open a corporate lease in your name as well as cash checks and do social media.. All CL Spam!

How do those freaks have $25 per ad to post all over the country and the Staff agencies also have money to post fake work ads. I’m SICK OF IT!

        • Wayne Heddinger

every state doesn’t…plus look at NC…they don’t even have fed unemployment benefits…they just let you drop off the cliff and then lock people up for feeding the poor

          • Mark

NC no longer accepts EUC loans from the Dept of labor because they recognized what a massive debt EUC loans place on the States…they are tired of socializing the debt..

          • DJMiles

Your pathetic. … EUC cost a lot less then what we send to other countries! If their worried about spending the money then maybe Obama should step aside and allow someone who could create jobs take over for awhile and then we could end the program in another year or so.

          • Mark

You are uneducated…there is a difference between Federal deficit and State deficits..EUC is not spent…its loaned…socializing of debt..is..socializing of debt…you either agree or don’t

          • DJMiles

We didn’t cause the Recession Obama and Congress did! So if we have to add $500 billion for EUC for 6 years who cares….That’s a lot less then the farm bill or what we spend on rebuilding countries that hate us.

          • kenc138

Amen. Taking care of our own is last priority on the agenda. Pretty pathetic.

          • Pin The Tail On Boehner

Agree with you 100%. Anything anywhere else in the world to deflect from what’s going on in our own backyard and the press sure isn’t helping for the most part either. There no longer is freedom of the press, it’s ruled by the corporate sponsors… disgusting all around really, especially when so many are beyond hurting…

          • kenc138

Very true. We have the best congress money can buy, and these corporations are drunk with power and immune to consequences. Our country is in such moral and ethical decline it’s quite unsettling to think of where we’ll be in 10-15 years.

          • Sally

Good grief. Bush caused the recession, not Obama. And the GOP is the party blocking every extension of everything that used to be just passed…remember the debt ceiling fight every damn time? When Congress cuts off the money, programs are cut. The GOP doesn’t care about you. Period.

          • DJMiles

Bush left office 6 years ago when unemployment was at 5.6% Today only 58% of working age Americans are employed! Personal debt is up 89% Gas prices 96% 9.3 million have fallen below poverty since Obama took office, national debt racked up 17 trillion, House hold income down 2.8% & cost of groceries up a Ave of 66% …..Obama has destroyed this country! Only thing he has done since 2009 was fix the banks crisis by allowing them to raise interest rates & fees on us & bailed out the auto industry with our tax dollars that is all we got in 6 years

          • deano

You are also uneducated, EUC rate was lowered in NC. cause when people lost there federal dollars they left the state and/or took lessor jobs. So the rate seems like it went down, it really didn’t, a lot of people took minimum wage jobs. Which means the state is now burdened with more people qualifying for food stamps, free medical, free cell phones, and free school lunches.
Uneducated people like yourself, have no idea what a financial burden this extension has caused the economy. Not to mention, the extension goes to Americans that spend money, and pump the economy.

        • donna

The REAL unemployment rate is about 20%. One fifth of Americans do not have a single working family member in their homes. There are at least 7 million Americans who have no income other than food stamps and they are not counted among the unemployed because they are no longer looking for employment. They are beaten down, battered and can not stand any more rejection. I read that 10 to 15% of Americans are “excess citizens,” no longer needed in the work force. Full employment is no longer an objective in America so the only ones who really are concerned with the “real” unemployment rate are Americans who are unemployed. All the “job creation” plans are nothing more than smokescreens for deregulation and environmental rape. The only we will get the jobs we want is if we create them ourselves. Ain’t no help coming.

          • DJMiles

Another thing Obama took away from us is the the ability to create our own employment by starting our own businesses by obtaining numerous grants that used to be available. .. Their used to he tons of various grants available for business startup and now theirs only 1 and that’s only available to minorities looking to start a small business. …It’s Obvious unemployment won’t be extended since Obama is not gonna allow the rate to go way back up but I think they should at least give us LTU that were cut off stimulus checks to help us get caught up and have the ability to seek employment.

        • FedUpInNJ

You can’t even call in anymore, its like you don’t have a claim. I can’t believe some anti establishment reporter hasn’t brought the “uncounted” issue to light, its like the unemployed don’t exist.

-1 GDP is no recovery. We are still in a recession, and Obama will fudge everything to keep the denial going.

At least the defamed mayor Rob Ford of Canada went to rehab. Obama should resign!

      • Wayne Heddinger

bullshit…NC uses the same formula to calculate the unemployed…they both do not count those who are not collecting unemployment benefits…it has nothing to do with how many are actually unemployed…bogus numbers !

        • DJMiles

What are you talking about??? I said those who are no receiving unemployment checks are not counted in the unemployment rate….Nobody really knows the actual unemployment rate some say it’s as high as 30% what we do know is that only 62% of working age Americans are currently employed witch is the lowest number since the 1940′s

      • donna

If only Obama had as much power as you imagine that he has. Do you not know anything about how our government is run? Congress is the legislative branch of our government. Obama can not start anything and he can not end anything. All he can do is stir up the public and America citizens pressure their representatives in Congress to pass laws that provide us with benefits.

Our problem is that corporate lobbyists have more money and influence than we have. Congress only needs our vote, but they want Corporation dollars. We have yelled, screamed, threatened and begged for an unemployment extension but Congress could care less about our needst. In an election year, they want money and they know we are going to vote for them anyway, no matter what they do.

Obama is just taking up space in the White House. I wish the middle and working classes had advocates who fought as hard for our survival as our Congress fights to give Big Business everything they want.

        • DJMiles

Obama has a lot more power then you think. …Did you know in 2010 after EUC was expired for 54 days Obama stepped in and refused to sign the bush tax cuts unless a deal was first reached on unemployment? January 1st 2012 New years day 1:43 am EUC was renewed because Obama told congress not to send the tax extenders bill to his desk without a unemployment extension attached…. And you are trying to tell me that when the Republicans wanted a unpaid for $900,000,000,000 farm bill passed in January he couldn’t do the same? How about the budget deal, Omnibus, Doc fix etc all were passed and signed by him with no mention of unemployment…. Weather you like Obama or not is your choice but as far as him not having the ability to do anything but send a tweet once every few months is completely incorrect. ..

        • FedUpInNJ

donna that was well said. I don’t think though I will be voting for ANY incumbent, Dem or Repub, maybe if a lot of people do that we can get some new minds in Congress and shake it up. The confusion over Obama’s “power” is from his own words at the SOTU address “If Congress won’t get it done I have a phone and a pen and I’ll use it” What happened to the “Year of Action”? I guess the action was to make people poor.

          • Leogona

Here in NYC, folks receiving unemployment are often making too much money to receive SNAP, Medicaid, etc… the cheapest ‘for pay’ plan here was around $300/month. If you are needing 3 weeks unemployment payments to pay your rent, the option that would seem most realistic is to take the [no coverage] penalty when you file 2014 taxes next year, because you need that $300 THis month (and every subsequent month) to keep phone, lights, Internet, clothes & body washed, metrocards/rail passes to find that next job.
Perhaps the real reason that Pres. Obama is not “in the fight ” for the long term unemployed is because he wants his presidency to be remembered for providing Health Insurance to all (known to the rest of us as ‘forced consumerism’). He really wants the Healthcare Exchange to be so “effective” – at any cost – that if the numbers of people eligible became exponentially increased (by not receiving any income), the Healthcare Exchange would have “great participation” and he would look “large”.
So.. after months of not having any health insurance, but money for commute, shelter, personal hygiene, phone, Internet, etc…we now are eligible for free insurance on the Health Exchange.
Too bad some folks who are having it really hard don’t have an address or a phone any longer to provide to the Exchange.
Its not IMpossible to get a new job without a home, but without a phone, what are you supposed to put on your resume? How can employers call you?

–oh, I was just reminded that if you are eligible for Social Services (medicaid, SNAP, live in a shelter, etc…) you can get a free Lifeline cell (lovingly called the “ObamaPhone” by many)..I guess that is what Obama’s presidency will be remembered for…forcing eligible unemployed insurance recipients to become HRA recipients so they could get Federally paid Health Insurance, a phone, work for free, to receive 1/4th the amount UI paid, which is around 30-45% of what was earned in the jobs that we were released from.

I know that they are doing what they think is right from their perspective & the numbers they are being given, and I do wish all the politicians well, but all the (Dems, Repubs, Tea, Beverage, Color, Working, whatever, party) are seriously Out Of Touch with what is really going on with the real people they are “serving” #renewUI

          • jack dee

well the biggest issue is the fact that if you do not vote for either house your are not counted there is no independent party anymore theyhave monopolized congress that if you currently arenot either Republican or Democrat you do not exist as a voter rand paul would be in office right now except the Washington itself actually detoured thousands of voters into scenarios where they could not vote in time aswell as the news which had to print a retraction because “they used the wrong audio” during a debate against him its all about keep the rich rich and the poor controlled they have dumped more money in state policing than into education if that doesn’t tell you whats to come they are also lowering the bar in criminal “justice” on what is deemed a felony and that wouldnt have anything to do with the fact of if “ever accused” of a felony you may not purchase or own a firearm which means cannot defend against oppression which is our right as American people everyone is not counted and in the governments eyes definitely not created equal there is no liberty or justice for all.

        • biggin

          I agree

        • susan

Pin it on the Speaker of the House who trots out his working class background when it suits him, but has lost touch. I would like to see Obama use the bully pulpit more, too. Signed, laid off 61 years old teacher at a closed school, never collected benefits since starting work at 17, but paid into them all this time. Benefits are not a hand out; my grandfather and other union men worked hard to get these laws to pass- helping working men and women.

      • FedUpInNJ

He HAS to see its not working… everyone says its about the election but people don’t pay attention to those #s, they see their family, friends, neighbors have ALL been affected by this in one way or the other and will remember that when they vote so I don;t understand how they think holding 3 million hostage while blatantly lying makes them look any “better”?

        • DJMiles

Now you know why Obama or any of the Democrats don’t ever mention theirs 3 million of us suffering on national news networks…3 million is a lot but remember theirs over 300 million US citizens & probably another 300 million illegal residents (soon to be legal is Obama gets his way) so really were a small percentage. …The majority of Americans have no idea EUC has even ended nor do they understand what the extensions even are! If you were to ask 100 people about unemployment extensions I guarantee more then 1/2 of them would think that us unemployed have been collecting for 2 years and are expecting congress and Obama to give us additional months to collect. …without Media coverage or the president talking about the issue to national audiences this issue is going to be kept between us unemployed and corrupt politicians and that’s why the Democrats & Obama have no worries about continuing to play games.

          • Sally

There are not 300 million illegals. Seriously…where did that number come from?

      • TJ

Obama ended EUC? that’s odd. I thought 100 percent of the democratic party supported the restoration of benefits. You uninformed voters are the reason why you don’t have benefits. Republicans know they can deny this stuff and pay no price because you all are too stupid to understand what just happened. You don’t have benefits because Republicans stalled then waited for the heat to die down then let the bill die in the hosue because of the Hastert rule (they didn’t support it). You don’t have benefits because republicans don’t want you to. There is nothing more to it.

        • DJMiles

I see you haven’t been following this issue. ..Obama instructed congress back in December to not put the unemployment extension in the budget guess he figured after 5 years of high unemployment it’s time to make it look like the rate is dropping! And no Democrats do not want unemployment extended if they did they would have not played the obstruction game with it for over 4 months in the Senate until a group of Republicans finally had to create 3979 a 5 month extension to end their game…However Harry Reid still refused to allow Republicans to attach a jobs bill to the unemployment extension so naturally the bill was not voted on in the house….Republicans did however try to attach the bill to must pass legislation but Democrats again objected !
The Democrats are pretty much finished we voted them out of the house and this November we will remove them from the Senate. ..unfortunately we’re stuck with a president that requires a mass amount of people to sign a petition or he don’t work guess that explains why his approval rating is the lowest of any president in history

      • deano

I have been a republican all my life, after Boehner not extending benefits, I will never vote for a republican again

        • DJMiles

I don’t believe you would feel that way if your followed the issue since Dec… I would have loved for Boehner to pass unemployment but you gotta understand that of all those in Congress he was the only one willing to pass a unemployment extension. …Obama told Democrats leave it out of the budget and it was Senate Democrats that refused to allow debate on EUC , blocked all amendments, used pay for Republicans opposed, never attached it to any of the Republican priorities like farm bill, omnibus, doc fix, Cola etc they played a game with us for months….John Boehner has said since Dec when Democrats left it out of the budget that he will extend unemployment if the Senate will allow vote on 1 of the 45 house passed jobs bills or create a jobs bill of their own and the Democrats refused to do either! He even reached out to Obama and said since Harry Reid refuses to pass a jobs bill He and house Reps would like Obama to list what jobs bills would be acceptable for the house to attach witch sounds fair to me but yet the white house responded their not willing to compromise. … http://www.examiner.com/article/white-house-refuses-boehner-gop-unemployment-benefits-extension-bill-compromise

        • kenc138

I hear that. I usually admire the GOP’s approach to working hard. Unfortunately, their wallets have intoxicated them to the point they can no longer relate to anyone but big business. If you can’t make it, well then you’re just lazy! They still pedal their “if you work hard, you can make it!” BS. That’s just flat out incorrect and out of touch. The REALITY is, you can bust your tail your entire life and never make it.

At what point do we decide enough is enough? The American Dream is a joke and a lie and only applies to very few people in this country or to those who have been lucky enough to be born under the right set of circumstances, at the right time, to the right people in the right part of the world. Making good choices really is just a small part of the equation. It’s more about accidental luck, random opportunity, inheritance, and who you know.

People need to speak up for what it is.

      • BOB

yes , they lie on the % , to make them look good, the % is much higher and they need this UEC approved

        • DJMiles

Obama is the worst president this country has ever had….I can’t understand how 1 single person could be happy paying double for everything, record high gas prices, the lowest labor participation rate in 50 years etc…. he works like a con artist he’s great at speaking and tells people everything they want to hear yet does the exact opposite. ! His entire presidency has been a never ending campaign and that’s why in 5 1/2 years he has accomplished absolutely nothing other then taking something we’ve had the option of buying for the last 100 years (health insurance) and just making it a law that we must all purchase it at a higher price then it was before the ACA ….Before Obama I never could understand how anyone could vote for a Republican I certainly only voted Democrats my entire life but now I clearly see

          • Sally

Really? He has accomplished a lot. Unemployment is down. You know where the jobs went? The GOP’s ‘small government’ crap means half the public sector jobs, which were good-paying career jobs, are gone. Look at your library. Have they cut hours? Staff? How about the fire and police? Teachers? We’ve closed half our schools, which mean a whole bunch of teachers are gone.
Obama got bin Laden. lowered unemployment, cut taxes, has NO control over health care costs because the government is not running this…insurance companies are because of the GOP fear-mongering over ‘socialism.’ We saved the auto industry, have some bank regulation, our air and water quality is better, we are using less oil and gas (and no, the President does not set gasoline prices..Lord. )
Meanwhile, we are out of Iraq and leaving Afghanistan, and he has not started any new wars. Isn’t that a good thing?
If it weren’t for the GOP obstructing everything, there would have been an infrastructure bill years ago, with great jobs. However, since they pledged (illegally?) to Grover Norquist and each other to ‘make Obama fail” they have no interest in helping the people. I do hope people have the facts this fall…out with the GOP!

    • Wayne Heddinger

also…the house has now passed 700 billion dollars of unpaid for corporate giveaways….while we 3 million Americans are abandoned by our country when we need them the most !

      • DJMiles

No the house didn’t! The house passed making the R&D tax credit permanent and the charter school tax credit nowhere near $700 billion….. Do your research and you would see that Obama has been demanding congress make those tax cuts permanent for years now so if your not happy about what the house passed then blame Obama …..read for yourself http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/05/AR2010090503752.html

        • Wayne Heddinger

everybody wants them extended…but dems and Obama want them paid for just like unemployment extension must be paid for but republicans will not pay for them…and 770 billion is the real number…learn to read yourself…Washington post is a right wing rag of bullshit !

          http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=4140

          • DJMiles

Only 2 were passed all others were tabled and likely never be passed….Democrats $85 billion tax extenders are not paid for and had never been paid for since we been renewing them since 1984….I think some should be eliminated completely like the tax breaks in the Democrats package that offer breaks to companies that move oversees. …Some that the house has proposed should also be eliminated but regardless if we are Republican or Democrat weather we like the tax cuts or not they are going to be passed no matter what….The company’s that benefit from them are the ones who fund the campaigns so I guarantee Obama nor either party in Congress will ever try to end the tax cuts

          • Wayne Heddinger

democrats ?…..that bill was blocked…the republicans version wasn’t blocked in the house for $310 billion which is what I posted about. Mitch McConnell blocked the bill in the senate because Harry wouldn’t let him add Keystone. Harry offered them a straight keystone bill to vote on but McConnell turned it down knowing it will never pass. McConnell knows it will only pass if it is attached to something else…..you have things backwards buddy !

          • Wayne Heddinger

and now the house is trying to pass an additional $400 billion tax extender bill that isn’t paid for but it’s still in debate because the dems have been trying to add amendments up until late last week and they will continue it when the house comes back on june 9th….

The bill in the Senate was blocked by Republicans like all bills have been blocked….Republicans do not oppose the tax extenders in fact every single one of them voted to bring the bill to the floor. …It was blocked for procedure again as part of the Democrats strategy! Just like Reid claims Republicans are responsible for blocking a vote on their top priority keystone pipeline. …This is why I who was a Democrat until last Dec will never vote for them ever again. ht http://www.nationaljournal.com/congress/how-democrats-play-the-obstruction-game-20140407 tp://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/26/us/politics/democrats-as-part-of-midterm-strategy-to-schedule-votes-on-pocketbook-issues.html?referrer=

          • Wayne Heddinger

so…it’s democrat fault because they knew the republicans would throw the typical tantrum of obstruction ? that’s like saying if I was pitching in a baseball game I should only throw a fastball because the other team can hit it instead of throwing a curveball because I know they can’t hit it….blaming democrats is idiotic just because they have a legit strategy knowing full well the republicans will shoot themselves in the foot !

          • DJMiles

So it’s good that unemployment, Min wage, equal pay, College loan refinance etc are all issues being used by Democrats for political gain and not issues they really want to pass? Well then I see why you support the Democrats for your sake let’s hope the hold onto the Senate this Nov so we could have another few years of high gas prices, lower wages, increased personal Debt, outrageous health care cost, more inflation on top of the 66% since 08, less jobs and the lowest labor participation rate in 60 years! Go Dems 2014

          • Wayne Heddinger

all the republicans have to do is stop blocking stuff…easy way to counter your pretend blame on democrats ! your blame has no logic attached to it.

          • DJMiles

Blocking stuff? You do know Republicans are in control of the house right? And I’m sure your aware theirs over 200 bills the house passed that the Senate refuses to allow a vote on? Democrats Obstruction has gotten so bad that even House Democrats are begging them to allow a vote on their bills http://thehill.com/homenews/house/200228-house-dems-to-senate-dems-pass-our-bills

          • Wayne Heddinger

dumbass….the republican house bill passed….the senate bill was blocked by republicans…McConnel wanted to add an amendment to that bill for Keystone but Reid said no but would allow a vote for a stand alone Keystone bill if republicans didn’t block the bill….but republicans did block it and Reid wouldn’t allow a stand alone Keystone bill because they blocked it….get a clue !

          • DJMiles

Wrong again! Allowing a vote on keystone was if Republicans were to support the energy bill not unemployment. ….the Reason Republicans didn’t go along with the scam is because Harry Reid had no intention of allowing keystone to get the 67 votes it would need to ensure Obama couldn’t veto it. Reid wanted to allow the 11 Democrats up for reelection in tough races to get the pressure off them for blocking the Keystone witch would create over 200,000 direct and indirect jobs by them voting with the Republicans knowing it would pass the Senate but then be vetoed by Obama and that is why Reid refused to attach the 2 bills together…. Obama and Democrats will pass the Keystone after November but can’t before then because they would lose $100,000,000 in donations from Tom Steyer if they allow keystone to be passed…. Aren’t the Democrats great!

          • Wayne Heddinger

what the hell do you think we were talking about….nobody said unemployment we were talking about extenders and energy bill blocked by republicans…we haven’t been talking about unemployment since the first comments….maybe you just need to read better !
the keystone bill standing alone will never get to passing let alone in another bill. everybody wanted the energy bill especially republicans…but since republicans knew full well that keystone wouldn’t pass they tried to add it to the other bill. reid said no so the republicans blocked the energy bill…ohhhhh well…they lost……keystone will not create 200000 jobs……stop watching fox….it will create at most 200 jobs….nobody on earth can show anywhere that keystone would create 200000 jobs….idiotic at best on that one !

          • DJMiles

Keystone would pass the Senate because every Republican would vote for it and also the 11 Democrats that are losing in the polls because of it….that would not be enough to get the 67 votes needed to make it veto proof and that 8is why Republicans wanted the 2 bills joined…. http://www.npr.org/2014/05/13/312035429/election-year-politics-dooms-energy-bill-averts-pipeline-vote

        Obama MUST GO!

      • Mark

EUC has cost the States 580 billion dollars in loans..but..since you like to socialize debt..what’s the problem with corporate giveaways and bailouts??.

        • Wayne Heddinger

I don’t give a damn if they pay for it at all….but I do care that they give it away to big business but when it comes to helping americans they require it to be paid for…I’m all for neither being paid for….if they are giving away the farm then let some regular americans have some too !

          • Mark

So you agree with socialization of debt??…regular Americans ‘get theirs” via farm subsidies, for example that trickle down very nicely…whole, small towns survive on farm subsidies…that is socialized debt and keep prices low for you..

          • DJMiles

If your so worried about our country’s debt then just send them a lot extra when you file your taxes every year .

          • Wayne Heddinger

what low prices ?…don’t know where you shop but everything I buy has kept going up…milk, bread, meats….all of it

I feel your pain! I’m 59 yrs. and long term as well. I’d give you that money in a heart beat if I could. I am a religious man and will pray that you get it. This situation is so over the top insane that i’s hard to wrap your head around. We’ve virtually lost everything, sold everything and are living in a travel trailer in an RV park. They poke at us about not being willing to lower our standard of living, well I wish someone would till us just how low they expect us to go. I for one have never been so low in my life. I guess what keeps it all in perspective for me is that there are millions of others in the same sinking boat. Hang in there as I know you certainly are and I hope the money you need comes.

      • Wayne Heddinger

they want us as low as 6 feet under….or deeper…..

    • FedUpInNJ

I feel your pain Jazzy for sure. You said it very well. I’m so sick of do nothing politicians and their lame excuses for ignoring 3 million people. I spent decades building my credit up just to watch it all fall while I watch Congress gives billions away to the Ukraine without a whimper.
We can do nothing but hang in there. I’m working as a temp for literally 1/3 of what I was making when employed full time. I feel like I have “no place” in society and all I did was work and pay my taxes for over 30 years. Good luck to you and your daughter. Something has to give…

Harry Reid says he will bring the unemployment extension back to the floor soon as they have Republican support! That’s very easy then just attach a jobs bill and don’t play the Obstruction game this time. http://www.nationaljournal.com/congress/how-democrats-play-the-obstruction-game-20140407

    • Arrest Obama

      I am

      REGISTERED

      for the GOP

and my key issues this year are EUC and medical weed.

Republicans support medical pot and EUC.

      Stop with the disinformation smorgasboard!

      • Frank

Yeah, how many Republicans support EUC? 5?

      • Annie Kiser

Republicans most certainly DO NOT support EUC…were you high when you wrote that?????

      • Wayne Heddinger

you sir are surely brain dead on that !

      • FedUpInNJ

Republican John Boehner is the ONLY person who is refused to bring the bill tot he floor for a fair vote, the ONLY one. Republicans as a majority are NOT for the legalization of medical marijuana, instead they want to “regulate private growers under co-op guides” meaning they want the little guy to grow the weed and then be forced to sell it to say Phillip Morris at very low prices.
Facts are an incredible thing… try some!

    • FedUpInNJ

I’ve heard Harry Reid’s “soon” before… the unemployed laugh at his “soon” comments. When he says “soon” we hear “We are going to talk about everything else” and “maybe we will bring up how terrible it is at 5:45pm the day before they go on our 8th break since Jan” … pleeze! Reid should have have added this in the end of the year budget, farm bill or a multitude of bills but he is playing us too. They’ve gone too far this time and people are VERY ANGRY.

      • DJMiles

Exactly what I’ve said for months if they wanted this to pass they would have put it in the budget deal…The absolute last thing Republicans would have done was caused another government shutdown over a $10 billion dollar unemployment extension after the political hit they took last time they caused the government shutdown! And the farm bill was a Republican priority at a cost of $900,000,000,000 Democrats could easily have held their votes on it until unemployment was extended or could have attached it to the bill in the Senate. …Obama also could have refused to sign the farm bill until unemployment is restored so for anyone to believe that the Democrats are trying to get unemployment extended has to be extremely dumb. And those who claim Obama don’t have the ability to do anything is even more pathetic!

    • Larry king

Harry isn’t going to do $hit. He is all talk and is only trying to string people along giving them false hope for something he has no intention of really doing anything to help pass an extension. He is only playing games. You truly cannot trust any of these politicians. It’s like the old saying, “Do you know how to tell when a politician is lying?” “His lips are moving”. That about sums it up. I hate all of them. They are all only out for themselves. They all suck!! And Obama is a puss. If he had any balls and wanted to really do the right thing, he could make this happen. He won’t even stand up to Boehmer. I am so sick of all of this $hit.

  • satoshi n.

Jazzy let everyone know if you receive help. Most charities exist to benefit the inside club, and avoid paying taxes. Oh sure they do some publically seen things but when it comes time to help you they don’t have time for you unless you are giving them something. For instances the Red cross spends millions of dollars to run a fitness center, church up against a for profit gym providing the same service one is taxed the other is not. I detect a falsehood in that food problem is solved through food stamps// and corporations writing off outdated food by donating it to charities. For example the food stores run a charity that their expired food goes to for people to pick up and write it off as a “”charitable donation to avoid paying taxes, now I am not totally sure of this fact but heard tell of this.”"
D.J. non of the give a sh.. about l.tu.e. because broke people provide no money for their campaign. If they gave a s.. then it would be passed it will never pass.
Maybe the u.e. should form a multinational corporation and ask for a $87 billion tax special favor,
I mean why do they tax unemployment anyway and give tax break to rich companies?????

  • Frank

At this point I think that Democrats are open to compromise where they were reluctant to do so before. Too many lives hang in the balance. Interesting that it is two Republican Senators who have seemingly worked harder than Democrats to craft the UI extension. Let’s make it happen this time.

    • DJMiles

I wish you were correct but let’s not forget theirs a key factor that will ensure Democrats don’t allow unemployment be passed and that’s the drastically low unemployment rate Obama and Democrats plan on being a key part to their campaign strategy. …If the Democrats were to put us 3 million back onto the books and the other 2.9 million that will expire by November Obama would have to explain he was wrong about the dramatic recovery we see since January…..He just talked about how people are retiring in mass numbers now that the economy has suddenly recovered…..So it would not be good for Democrats politically

      • Frank

Well, I agree with much of what you said. However, losing a couple of million Democratic voters due to failure on the part of Dems wouldn’t be a good thing either. Add to that there are some (from both sides) that are earnestly attempting to make this happen and it at least gives this thing a reasonable shot. Plus, I read that the jobs report which will be released tomorrow is expected to be worse than expected (another boost, from the UI extension point of view).

        • DJMiles

I hope something gets passed just as much as you do but I just don’t see it as likely at this point….if they were to really lose 3 million voters that might pursue them to act but if we really think about it they probably won’t lose any votes ….This strategy was well planned and used by Obama against Romney ! Democrats have convinced enough of the unemployed that it’s all the Republicans fault for the first several months now in June probably 1/2 blame Republicans the other 1/2 understand this is a political strategy Democrats are using to not take the blame for leaving unemployment our of the budget….I think by November all of us are going to be fed up with congress and not even vote so neither party will take much of a hit.

          • Frank

I think initially that most people did believe that Republicans were solely responsible for the extension not happening. It was Boehner, Republicans. Boehner, Republicans. And while that is primarily true, people now sense that the Dems are in large part to blame Read comments from these blogs and I think you can see that there is some shift in placing the blame. Truth is, they’re all to blame. This is a pretentious game that is being played. And, ultimately, it is the needy who are being played.

          • FedUpInNJ

True they are all to blame but you would be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t know that it is Boehner and ONLY BOEHNER who is “refusing” to “allow” a vote. Boehner + the Republicans are now known as the party of “no” and thats not good for them.

          • FedUpInNJ

Politicians don’t understand that people are not as stupid s they think we are. Votes DEFINITELY will be lost. I highly doubt any person who has lived through this unnecessary hell will vote for any incumbent, dem or repub. I know I won’t.

        • Arrest Obama

          I am not voting dem.

Not at all, because you people would let every conservative starve so they’d vote for you.

Not all of us want to be dealers, strippers, or work from home and collect GR and medicaid, sorry.

      • J in MI

I understand your negativity with EUC being teased for 5 months. Keep in mind the unemployment rate is still higher than when EUC started under Bush, and that’s without the tricky accounting. LTU is still extremely high and workforce participation is extremely low. Obama had been campaining for this till he dropped off the map a couple of weeks ago. Also, Senator Reid could have simply kept his mouth shut but today decided to commend a Republican Senator for his efforts.

        • Wayne Heddinger

          reed is a dem not a republican…it’s 1 republican and 1 dem

          • J in MI

Not sure what’s confusing you here. Senator Heller is a Republican and was commended by Reid, the majority leader. From the article:

“My colleague from Nevada, Dean Heller, has been stellar on this,” Reid said. “He has talked about it at least once a week. What he is doing is scrambling to get few more Republicans.”

          • Wayne Heddinger

not sure where you got that…I watched it on cspan…

          • J in MI

The 3rd sentence of THIS article. The story you’re commenting on.

    • Annie Kiser

Reed is a DEM. Heller is GOP.

      • Frank

No, Jack Reed (R), not Harry Reid.

  • zappacat

More false hope. Tired, so tired. And hungry.

    • Frank

There’s a lot of that going around. Hang in there.

  • Larry king

Harry, I know the republicans are mostly to blame for the extension not happening, however, you have been playing games with us too. You really don’t care if it happens or not. It’s just a game and you are using this for political gain. If you really wanted it to happen, you would have attached it to the bill with the tax breaks for big business and corporations. If you had, Boehner would have had no choice but to accept it. You are not trying to help the unemployed at all. If you really wanted to help the unemployed, it would have already been done. All of you politicians are full of $hit. None of you are honest anymore.

Anyone who wants the extension passed should sign the petition below. That is our only chance.

    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/renew-federal-emergency-unemployment-compensation-euc-program-which-expired-december-28-2013/bhd93htQ

    • ckwest542

Larry I totally agree with your assessment of Harry Reid’s not really wanting the EUC bill passed, nor does Obama. They are just giving us lip service. The main reason they do not want to pass the bill is because, once we stop collecting, we are no longer counted as unemployed and the country’s overall unemployment numbers look better. Obama and the Dems don’t want the REAL unemployment rate exposed because it can only hurt the illusion that US economy is improving.

      • Annie Kiser

Unfortunately, I concur. Funny (not really) how the unemployment rate started “dropping” once 3 Million plus LTU were no longer receiving benefits. Disgusting game on the Dems part.

      • FedUpInNJ

True once we stop collecting we are not counted but people aren’t that stupid. I bet everyone knows at least 1 person who has been drastically affected by this and they vote.

  • ckwest542

EUC has endured discouraging and frustrating starts and stalls to the point where I believe politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle have no real intentions of restoring benefits. When was the last time Obama mentioned EUC ? Where’s the urgency on the part of Harry Reid? Where is the media attention? Harry’s statement is basically one where he is throwing us a bone, he is not doing enough to make the extension happen..

    • DJMiles

Your absolutely right neither party wants it….If Democrats wanted it they would have attached it to 1 of the must pass bills or the Republicans priority $900,000,000,000 farm bill with they claimed they were going to do then quietly passed it without mentioning unemployment….Obama is the most guilty of all them….tho he can’t issue a executive order he has the most power of them all because he could easily refused to sign any bills into law until EUC was restored.

      • Arrest Obama

        Remand Obama to PRISON!

For Benghazi, and releasing 5 terrorists to Al Qaida.

      • Frank

900 Trillion? Wow, that’s a lot of money. LOL

        • Frank

          just kidding.

  • J in MI

Heller & Reed shouldn’t start a new EUC bill from scratch. They should add to the existing one (retro) and find a new offset for the remainder of 2014. I can personally survive without the retro, but I can’t see the bill getting the traction needed if many of the Americans it’s intended to help are left behind.

Then Reid needs to attach it to something. A jobs bill maybe, or the Highway bill mentioned in the article. Don’t submit it as a standalone that will only suffer the same fate in the House. That is, if it can even get through the Senate again. The lack of enthusiasm from the President and Congress is unsettling to this American.

    • Ralph

The bill is dead because it wasn’t voted on there for a new bill must be

      submitted to the house

      • J in MI

I meant use the existing language and build it into the new bill they’re creating.

      • Wayne Heddinger

it isn’t dead…it stays alive until the current congress ends…..they can still vote on it but it’s just retro then…the original bill would have been retro plus extensions until june…..

        • J in MI

Yeah it’s technically “alive,” but it sure ain’t breathing.

  • Dan Coddington
    • DJMiles

Why did we re elect a president that we has to sign a petition every time a issue needs to he addressed in our country??? How many Ukrainians signed a white house petition to get the $8,000,000,000 they needed when Russia came to close to their border?
I applaud your efforts and I know you mean well but wow Obama really needs to cut him term short and allow someone else to run our country.

  • Ralph

a person pay 50. dollars a week to unemployment in ten years he pay 26,000.00 dollars to unemployment in twenty years he pay into unemployment 56,000.00 dollars thirty years he pay 96,000.00 dollars into unemployment and that not counting on the interested made on the money,so the people do deserve it,you can say it call paying it forward

    • Annie Kiser

Only a few states deduct UI from paychecks and it’s literally pennies – like $2 a pay period. Most UI is paid into by companies – it is insurance. And EUC is a FEDERAL program, funded by tax dollars…to which I say I PAID taxes since my 1st job at age 14 bussing tables….and extended benefits should not be denied to any of us in a still crappy economy with a negative growth rate in public sector jobs.

      • FedUpInNJ

In NJ we pay UI insurance – approx $18.00 per bi weekly paycheck + I pay approx $11,000.00 in taxes so yes when I need help I do expect it to be there!

  • Yonatan YONATAN

The Republican and democratic parties, have both FAILED the millions of unemployed families without an UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION since late last December. For over five months now, the republicans have held the extension bill “HOSTAGE” in the senate, for political leverage, and party agenda. While millions of these families were facing EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, the politicians were playing “party politics” and using them as bargaining chips. Both party’s have totally walked away from this crisis, preferring not do anything further more about it. When so many families are struggling, and hurting financially, and watching their credit becoming destroyed, the congress approved a foreign aid package for the Ukraine, worth BILLIONS of tax payer dollars. How can this be possible? What ever happened to taking care of Americans here at home? Both parties have shown a total lack of human compassion, and common decency towards these unemployed families. Americans need to demonstrate out in the streets across this country, and demand CHANGE. We need to REMOVE these career politicians, and replace them with “PUBLIC SERVANTS” again, that will truly represent the people.

    • aging worker

I am so in agreement with you! And yet, with a smile on his face, Obama is ready to sign off on Millions more to be sent to Ukraine.

  • Ralph

Some people will lose everything , some people kill them , self other will become homeless and lost in the homelessness system , but at some point and time the government will come threw but for some it wont matter anymore because everything they work for is no long in their life.

  • Kim M.

Please do not forget to sign the Petition. A lot of progress has been made since yesterday but we still have a ways to get the 100,000 signatures required. We have to stay the course. It’s time we the “long-term” unemployed take responsibility for our own futures. We waited on the Government to do the right thing but as you see they fell short and strung us along for months.

I’m mad that they did that and I hope you are too. I’m so mad that I am doing everything in my power to get 100,000 signatures on that Petition. I’ve read some comments saying the Petition is not going to work but I say what do we have to lose. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain if it is successful.

I have posted this Petition on my Facebook wall and a few of my family/friends have done so as well. We can do this. We just have to get the word out.

i AM 51 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN GAINFULLY EMPLOYED SINCE THE AGE OF 17. i HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION AND WENT TO THE COLLEGE OF HARD KNOCKS AND EFFORT. i PROVED MYSELF AND ADVANCED IN MY CAREER. i HAVE APPLIED FOR JOBS THAT NOBODY HAS MORE EXPERIENCE THAN I AND CAN NOT SEEM TO LAND THEM. aGE DISCRIMINATION IS HAPPENING AT AN ALARMING RATE AND NOBODY SAYS A DAMN THING. IT ALL MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH. NIETHER SIDE OF THE POLITICAL SYSTEM REALLY CARES ABOUT MAKING THIS SYSTEM FOR THE UNEMPLOYED WORK TO GET AMERICANS WORKING AT JOBS WHICH YOU CAN ACTUALLY SUPPORT A FAMILY OFF OF THE WAGES. IF THE REPUBLICANS WANTED TO HAVE TRAINING AS A PREREQUISITE FOR LONG TERM UNEMPLOYMENT, THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD THAT IN PLACE. DO NOT MAKE ME THE SCAPE GOAT FOR YOUR INABILITY TO HAVE A SYSTEM IN PLACE BEFORE THE PRGRAM THAT WAS IN PLACE EXPIRED. I FOR ONE WOULD ACCEPT IT WITH OPEN ARMS!!!!

  • DJMiles

Anyone who would like to see Obama hold a state of the union address in 2015 it will require we sign a petition at Whitehouse.gov/Petitions Deadline is Sept 30 2014

  • Hez B63

This is the first time the american government had lost it’s credibility to stand on their words. Delays and fake media attention is all we saw on how they run their law making policies in regards to the unemployment extension, leaving many residents and citizen to go without any resources.

    • DJMiles

You seem smart! If the Republicans were really 100% to blame don’t you think Obama and all the Democrats in Congress who are in desperate need of votes this November would make sure that all Americans were aware that Republicans have put 3 million and counting citizens into a crisis! We’re losing our homes, cars, credit, utilities etc ….can’t seek work with no insurance or money for transportation or even feed their children and provide them with lunch money or school supplies. ….This would be on every news channel! Commercials would run all day and every Democrat would talk about this in every interview. …. Their is reason the Democrats keep this issue quiet from all those who are not unemployed or they would be talking about it as much as Republicans talk about Obama care or Bengazi.

We need ALL REGISTERED American Citizen Voters to forget the words dem. and rep. and:
            1.) Read the candidates resume.
            2.) Confirm the content.
3.) Check with their previous employers to confirm their accomplishments on the job.
4.) Check character references. (five minimum) Confirm the candidate keeps the word and if ever married has a valid family life. If personal responsibilities fail, large public ones will follow.
5.) Neutralize and avoid all advertising be it written, audio or images. All can be as good as or superior to any other product for sale to the product via public relations or advertising firms.

6.) Vote for the best person to take the Office (JOB)

If these are the standards I must face for new employment why should they be excused? I almost forgot to include

7.) AGREE TO TERM LIMITS. Not only for the position but for any political office involvement. PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS ARE WHAT IS BREAKING OUR SYSTEM. Be like Gorge Washington and go back home to the farm and resume your regular job again.

          • FedUpInNJ

I wish we could pull their credit, have them drive 50 miles for an interview, be interviewed by people clearly less qualified than them and then not get the courtesy of even a callback! Or maybe they could get lucky enough to get one of those “your qualifications clearly exceed this position but we will keep your resume on file” LOL LOL LOL Term limits are what people should be DEMANDING, I totally agree.

          • FedUpInNJ

            Absolutely!

y middle summer…democrats will certainly be talk about it especially if it doesn’t get a vote…AGAIN !

        • DJMiles

No they will not be talking about! They are going to continue to talk about the drastically dropping unemployment rate that they claim is due to the recovery….last thing you will hear them talk about is that the economy is actually not doing very good so far this year and that the reason the unemployment rate is dropping is because 3 million people are not being counted anymore and another 70,000 a week are also removed from the unemployment rate!
Something most people don’t understand is that in reality the unemployment rate is higher today then it’s been at the peak of the Obama recession….As we seen how much the unemployment rate dropped when we stopped counting 3 million people let’s remember that their is still millions of people who we stopped counting before EUC expired last Dec! Think about how many people exhausted EUC that still haven’t found employment I’m sure theirs still some who exhausted EUC years ago and we’re forced onto welfare and still haven’t found work….So tho we all agree that Obama has caused the worst recession in history we must keep in mind that it’s a lot worse then it appears.

I want to thank Senator Dean Heller and Senator Jack Reed for doing the right thing by working hard to help us.

I am sure there must be a few Senators and Congressman who read these message boards. Take a stand and do the right thing for the people of this country who you swore to represent. Keep these families together.

  • Hearin in da Boro of NYC

Bronx, NYC unemployment rate is stuck at 12% On my block of 13 – 1 family homes 1,200 sq ft homes, two are in foreclosure. Four head of family are unemployed. Two temporary disability. Three retired. My block is not the norm but I’m sure the 12% is a creative accounting number maneuver. IF DC is planning for a nation of poor, it’s working. We must have our Emergency Unemployment funding active again. The money does not pay all the bills. At least the mortgage gets paid and covers transportation and internet use for job search and applications. July 1 2013 was my filing due to lay-off. First week of Jan was the 26th payment and till today NI INCOME. Living slim on love, savings and the goodness/kindness of others. Emergency Unemployment Assistance MUST BE AVAILABLE NO MORE POLITICAL GAMES!!!

This is why it’s so hard to define unemployment
    By Ylan Q. Mui
    June 5, 2014
    The Washington Post

    WASHINGTON —
What does it mean to be unemployed? Depends on what country you’re in.

On Friday, the U.S. Labor Department is slated to release its monthly
snapshot of the health of the labor market. Calculating the number of
people who are unemployed seems like a pretty straightforward task. But
the years since the Great Recession have highlighted the complexities of
one of the country’s the most critical economic indicators.

There is universal agreement that unemployed people meet two basic
requirements: They don’t have a job, and they want a job. Those
characteristics separate the unemployed from, say, your 90-year-old
grandmother who is retired and has no interest in working

It is the third requirement that gets messy: Unemployed people must
also be looking for work. But what counts as “looking for work”?
Applying for a job? Scanning a job board? Updating your resume? Signing
    up for LinkedIn?

The difficulty in settling on a single definition becomes clear when
comparing the United States to our neighbors in the north. The official
definition of unemployment in America requires “actively” looking for a
job in the past month. That includes contacting an employer directly,
visiting a job placement center and sending out your resume. It
specifically does not include so-called “passive” actions such as
    scanning a newspaper jobs section.

The opposite is true in Canada. The country’s official statistical
agency lists “looked at job ads” as one of the acceptable methods of
searching for employment. Statistics Canada said that if the country’s
unemployment rate were adjusted to match the U.S. measurements, it would
fall from 6.9 percent to 5.9 percent.

“Most industrialized countries, including Canada and the United States,
subscribe to guidelines established by the International Labour Office
for defining and measuring labour market status, including unemployment.
However, the guidelines are, by design, rather imprecise, so that
individual countries can interpret them within the context of their own
labour markets,” the agency explains on its website.

In fact, until last year, the ILO was pretty lax in requiring countries
    – particularly in the developing world, where labor markets are still
heavily informal – to incorporate “looking for work” into their
definitions of unemployment. For example, South Africa used to publish
two unemployment rates: an expanded rate of people who were simply out
of a job and wanted to work and a strict rate of people who also had
actually looked for a job or tried to start their own business. The
differences could be stark: In 1999, the expanded unemployment rate was
36.2 percent, but the strict rate was 23.3 percent.

“It’s messy enough in the high-income world where we have markets and
statistics and surveys, but when you start going into the developing
world, it becomes much more difficult,” said Andrew Burns, lead
economist of the Development Prospects Group at the World Bank. “The
    definitions all fall apart.”

The ILO facilitates decisions by the International Conferences of
Labour Statisticians. The group has tried to accommodate the world’s
evolving labor force by refining its wording. Countries are now required
to include job search within their definitions of unemployment. Those
who are out of a job and want a job but are not looking are considered
part of the “potential workforce.” The ILO also now distinguishes
between people who are employed and people who are working more broadly,
    for example, in subsistence agriculture.

Statistics are not just numbers. They are an attempt to categorize and
quantify the infinite variations in human behavior. No wonder the data
    always feels incomplete.

“We’re looking at this thing that we think we know what it is using
different lenses,” Burns said. “Depending on the lenses that you’re
using, you’ll get a slightly different picture. There’s no right and no
    wrong answer.”

It is so sad that Republican’s and some Democrat’s are talking about old Iraq guys and Millions of people here have no money and poor VA’s need doctor appointment’s before they die. Let me, let you in on a secret, I don’t care about them in Iraq. Republican’s need to Help us get on our feet and take care of American’s the one’s who are breathing and starving in America and need Jobs here at home. 5 Iraq people are freaking eating and Millions of people in America are starving what’s wrong with this picture. I am mad because I am 53 years old and no one wants to hire me because I am to old and over educated like two Masters they are no good to me right now, I have student loans and I am a mess. My only daughter Birthday is coming up and I can’t get a gift. I feel like a looser, I am suppose to be the role model to my daughter not the other way around. My daughter loves me very much and that is the only thing that is keeping me alive. Every day she tells me Mom it’s going to be okay, but in my head when is it going to be ok, baby, when?

    • JM

Gigi: Veterans are the strength of American. They are not treated well in a different country and half of the world hates Americans. When they come home they are disrespected and the government pretends to care for a moment.
I am in the same boat with student loans. I am on deferment plan, but will be looking into Income-Based Plan (IBR). You might know of the plan, but if not here is the website:
      https://studentaid.ed.gov/repay-loans/understand/plans/income-based.
I am way up in age and unemployed. Many birthdays, graduations, weddings etc; have come and gone. Don’t worry your family will understand your circumstances and your daughter will be happy to just have u.

I voted all my life and this coming election will not; I believe both parties let us down, their is no logical reasoning’s in how they failed 3 million unemployed Americans and yet, seem to find alternatives to help other countries such as Ukraine.

if you have not done so, can u sign the white house petition https://petitions.whitehouse.g… I understand this is the only way President will look into our cause. lol :)

dollars from five+ hundred and I just lost it. Life sucks right now. I signed your white house petition, family and friends also.
I have hope and pray that the House will come thru for us, one can only hope. LOL

Really, thanks for reaching out , I am really tired and lost sometimes, God is really testing us?

Democrats are working hard to protect the working and middle class.
Republicans simply have no solutions that help anyone but the rich.

Because of a loophole my unemployment benefits start back next month. So I’m good for at least 6 months, I’ve lost a lot but I’ll get by.

Look, The United States is a liberal country always has been likely always will be.

Need evidence look at the history. From Emancipation of the slaves, to a woman’s right to vote, to The New Deal (which created unemployment insurance in the first place), to Medicare, to Civil Rights, to a woman’s right to chose, Gay Marriage, legal pot on and on Conservatives ALWAYS lose.

Remember that Republicans resisted progress and caused the suffering of millions of American people and for what. To appease the Koch brothers and the radical right.

    Remember that in November.

    • DJMiles

Not sure what country your in but here in America we have a party called the Democrats also however their the opposite of the Democrats in your country…. Ours destroyed our country and caused the longest recession in history that gets worse by the day…They ended our unemployment abruptly in Dec then tried to put the blame on our more respectable party called the Republicans who have been the only ones willing to help us unemployed not only with financial aid but also with jobs…Unfortunately until November the destructive part called the Democrats are refusing to allow a vote on any of the 45 jobs bills the productive party has created to get us back into high paying jobs….Anyway American is a good country and I highly recommend you visit sometime but would be best if you wait until 2017 because right now it’s unaffordable …..believe it or not we pay $4 a gallon for gas all year long witch is double what we used to pay when we had a president.

      • Mark

        Yeah you’re delusional.

        • Wayne Heddinger

john Boehner must be a democrat according to this nut job

          • DJMiles

Be nice to Mark….It’s good to see we have people from other countries joining us in our fight to get congress to restore EUC

        • DJMiles

What does delusional mean in your country?

          • Mark

Here in the U.S.A. it means you’re hallucinating or maybe you’re just lying.

          • DJMiles

Well the article above says I’m telling the truth. …6 months still no extension, Obama still silent, and the game continues. …

          • Mark

The article draws no such conclusion. Clearly you’re struggling with reality. Its OK though because thankfully Obama created the ACA to help people like you. You should definitely write to Obama and thank him.

          • DJMiles

LOL Funny you should say that because I had to get rid of the insurance policy I had for years because of the ACA….My insurance company wanted me to pay a additional $103 per month and reduce my coverage…I allowed them to cancel the policy and decided to check out other policy’s on Health care.gov and I gotta tell ya it truly is a joke….Your obviously unemployed so probably haven’t looked into getting insurance yet but as your friend I must warn you be very careful! Your really have to read the details of every policy because they are not as they first appear….I almost purchased 1 thru blue cross until I found in the fine print that the first $6,000 a year has to come out of pocket and they will cover the costs after $6,000 however I would still have to pay large deductibles if I was to use the insurance. …Anyway I only like to comment of issues that I fully understand so tho the ACA is not good for someone younger like myself I won’t say that the ACA is bad for everyone because maybe their are older people who get decent rates or of course those on welfare probably benefit from it so until I know more about it I could only comment on my experience.

          • Mark

Yeah, I’m a Veteran with a service connected disability so I receive some of the best care in the country. That despite the lack of Republican support for Veterans benefits.

The Republicans are the problem with this country and need to be removed from office.

          • DJMiles

What! Your a veteran and you defending Obama & the Democrats? ?????
I don’t believe that….Every Veteran is against the Democrats! How are you not frustrated that 1 of the 45 jobs bills Democrats could have attached unemployment to H.R 2433 is A bill specifically for Veterans to provide monthly payments to out of work veterans and assist Them in job training and career placement. …The bill is highly praised by all Veterans! House Republicans and Many house Democrats passed H.R 2433 back in 2012 and it is still sitting under Harry Reid desk because he refuses to allow a vote on the bill….and contrary to what Democrats say their are a lot of other extremely good jobs bills passed by the house that would also greatly benefit Veterans as well as all of us that want to work at good jobs (not Walmart) their is even bills that would help those of us looking to create our own jobs by providing financial assistance and incentives to start our own small business. …wow I’m really in shock! A veteran that likes Obama never would have imagined coming across one of those.

          • Mark

H.R 2433 was a bogus bill paid for by effectively raising taxes on other Veterans.

There are no good jobs bills offered by Republicans. Reducing regulations on labor and environmental law does NOT constitute a jobs bill. Share with us ONE Republican jobs bill that directly creates jobs.

The GOP only likes starting wars never taking care of the Veterans when we return home.

            GOP blocks veterans bill
            http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/199480-gop-blocks-veterans-bill

          • DJMiles

All of them would create jobs…let me give you one you may be familiar with Phase 4 of the Keystone XL ! Witch is basically a info structure bill that would create 42,000 direct jobs and approximately 140,000 indirect jobs! We’re talking about building a pipeline that spans a good portion of our country (it’s like building a highway thru a dozen states) so yeah Keystone would put a lot of people back to work….But let’s also consider all the other benefits of the Keystone like the 25% reduction in oil prices. …that along with its environmental benefits ! We’re talking about a state of the art pipeline that is pretty much leak prof and is loaded with automatic shutoff sensors so the days of trucks and ships spilling oil into our soil and seas would be over…
So you could see why 99% of Americans are demanding Obama forget about the 100 million campaign donations from Steyer and approve our pipeline today.

          • Mark

Your numbers for keystone XL are completely incorrect.
According to fact check.org there would be 42,000 direct and indirect jobs created and only for a year maybe two. After that 50.

Building keystone is not like building a highway at all. Keystone is a private enterprise owned and operated by a private business. Highways and other actual infrastructure is a public asset.

I’ve worked in the oilfields out west there is no such thing as a leak.proof pipe and in fact the portions of Keystone already in place have cause over a billion dollars worth of environmental damage in Michigan.

Furthermore factcheck goes on to say that the effect on U.S. energy prices would be negligible to nonexistent.

So yeah 50 permanent jobs do very little and if that’s the Republicans idea of economic recovery then they can keep it. No wonder their bills get blocked.

          • DJMiles

Did you say the same thing when Obama spent $800,000,000,000 on a info structure bill to rebuild roadways a few years ago? They were temp jobs lasting a few months

          • Mark

The word is infrastructure and the 800 billion was not all spent on infrastructure.

According to the CBO the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 created millions of jobs.

So no I did not say the same thing. The President’s plan benefited the entire country. The Keystone project benefits a much much fewer number of Americans most notably the Koch brothers.

          • DJMiles

Created millions of jobs but yet we went deeper into a Recession in 2009&2010?

          • Mark

You and the Republicans are free to lie to yourselves all you like. Like when you tricked yourselves into believing Romney had a chance in hell of beating Obama. Lmao

But you cannot lie to the rest of us.

          • DJMiles

I back up every word I say with facts like when white house aids state this is just a political strategy & even Senators themselves say the goal isn’t to pass any bills but force Republicans to oppose them all! Charles Schumer even goes into detail how he meets with Obama to coordinate with him…. read for yourself http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/26/us/politics/democrats-as-part-of-midterm-strategy-to-schedule-votes-on-pocketbook-issues.html?referrer=

          • Mark

You draw the wackiest conclusions. Republicans are standing in the way of American prosperity. Of course Democrats are going to campaign on that.

Republicans hate the working and middle class and SHOULD be removed from office.

          • DJMiles

A good example of the Democrats political games is the Min wage bill…Democrats want to raise it by $3 per hour witch is more then it has gone up in the last 25 years…They don’t want to enact the raise until Obama leaves office, The refused to allow debate on the bill, we’re unwilling to compromise on a smaller increase or spread the increase out over a period of time and again blocked all amendments from Republicans! Does that sound like they are serious about helping min wage workers?
Also as I’m sure you know the Democrats always refer to the CBO like when the CBO says Obama care won’t cost as many jobs as predicted or how by extending unemployment would create 200,000 jobs this year etc….However when A min wage increase was on the floor they completely ignored the CBO’s report that by increasing the min wage by $3/hr it would cost our economy 1 million jobs just in the first year and millions more over time….

          • Mark

I can see you spent the morning watch FAUX and Friends because that’s just not true.

You like to cherry pick snippets and create a false narrative. Basically you’re a liar.
Here’s what the CBO actually says.

            http://www.cbo.gov/publication/44995

          • DJMiles

What am I supposed to be seeing? Says 2nd 1/2 of 2016 job losses up to -1.0 million at $10.10/hr min wage …..That’s exactly what I said

          • Mark

Again you cherry pick to support your twisted whacky narrative.

“the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, championed by President Obama, could reduce total employment by 500,000 workers by the second half of 2016. But it would also lift 900,000 families out of poverty and increase the incomes of 16.5 million low-wage workers in an average week.”

            http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/19/business/mixed-results-in-us-study-of-increasing-minimum-wage.html?referrer=

          • DJMiles

CBO report you posted says likely range -1.0 million and that’s just in 2016 other layoffs would follow I guarantee that….I used to run a high volume nightclub that was owner absent so I did all the hiring, paid the bills ect…and when our cost of operating would go up weather it be from taxes, utility increases, alcohol costs etc I had to make changes so that our profits were not lost. The only choices I had were either keep raising priced or cut staff members and regardless of what you think all businesses would do the same if min wage was increased….All that increases wages by $3 /hr would do is cost jobs and raise the prices we pay for everything way up….Example if you work 30 hours a week you would make $90 more after taxes maybe $70 but if the cost of everything you buy goes up your going to have less money then before the wage increase….example if you currently spend $200 a week on groceries and after price increases you spend $ 310 for the same amount of stuff your losing $40 a week and that’s just on groceries now factor everything else you spend money on including utilities, car repairs, restaurants etc your going to be poor….However the government makes out cause the more money you make the more taxes you pay and same goes for the money you spend 9% of $1,000 is more then 9% of $700

          • Mark

            You’re a pathological liar.

“the $10.10 option would reduce total employment by about 500,000 workers, or 0.3 percent, CBO projects (see the table below). As with any such estimates, however, the actual losses could be smaller or larger; in CBO’s assessment, there is about a two-thirds chance that the effect would be in the range between a very slight reduction in employment and a reduction in employment of 1.0 million workers.”

Is exactly what the CBO says.

Your anecdotes are worthless. You’re clearly a lying shill for the right.

          • Mark

Nobody is forcing Republicans to do anything they oppose the prosperity of working and miiddle class Americans, women and children, Veterans all on their own.

Democrats are correctly highlighting that fact and Americans are paying attention.

        • DJMiles

Naw Wayne means no harm he’s as frustrated as the rest of us that our king and Congress have been playing games with our lives…. He don’t follow politics so is just having a hard time accepting that our politicians do not care about anyone legally in our country

        • left wing

          yes, you are

      • DJMiles

And has been 100% correct since December! It shocks me that you can’t see this is a game Democrats are playing and thankfully it is just a game otherwise nobody would ever vote for a Democrat ever again! Who would vote for a party that can’t even get a low cost unemployment bill passed while Republicans are getting all their Priorities signed by Obama like the $900,000,000,000 farm bill? Not to mention the Democrats couldn’t create a jobs bill of their own nor even attempt to create one! I think we both agree they should at least allow a vote on 1 of the 45 house passed jobs bills! Theirs a few that were authored by house Democrats so shouldn’t be hard to pick 1.

      • Mark

I’ll get a job when the right position is available in the meantime I’m back on unemployment in July thank you very much. I paid into unemployment I deserve to receive benefits.

        • aging worker

The federal and state government take payroll taxes to fund unemployment
insurance for workers. However, these payroll taxes are not taken out
of the employee’s paycheck. The employer funds
          unemployment insurance out of his share of the payroll taxes;
employees’ paychecks are not affected by the need to pay for
          unemployment.

          • guest

How do the employers get the money to pay his share of the payroll taxes? I’ll tell you, It’s from the hard labor of their employees. Without the employee the machine stops. Say what you will but the money is indirectly paid by the under paid laborer.

        • aging worker

Wow!!!! The ‘right’ position. Dream on…

$5m was just send to the Ukraine. At an average of $300 per week, 16,667 people could have had their benefits extended for a week. $1.5 was just sent to Pakistan. 5m people could have had their benefits extended for a week. Does Washington just not care about Americans?

    • DJMiles

Why would Obama care about Americans? He’s going to take care of every other country before he worries about us….And forget the Ukraine we’ve only gave them a few billion in financial aid so far we give more to other countries then that everyday….If your want a president that cares about Americans your going to have to wait until 2017 for that for now just learn to deal with paying double for everything and consider down grading your life style ! I recommend selling your car and getting a moped their cheaper to insure and will use a lot less of Obama’s $4/gallon gas and learn to like cheaper food because what used to cost $5 in 2008 now costs over $10 …..
We must blame ourselves for the Obama crisis He told us we were going to experience change and we ignored his warnings .

  • DJMiles

Anyone with even a slight bit of intelligence could easily predict what is going to happen over the next few weeks….Harry Reid is going to play the same obstruction game he’s played all year that has forced Republicans to block bills that are top priorities of the Republican party…what we will see with unemployment will again be pay for’s that Republicans oppose, will fill up the amendment tree with 6 or so useless amendments that delay the enactment date by 1 day, will refuse to allow a jobs bill be attached etc…. That’s unless he decides to play games before the first procedural vote to even bring the bill to the floor! Republicans are not going to support a bill again that don’t contain a job creation measure and honestly why would they? For 6 long months House leaders have said a unemployment extension will not be voted on unless a jobs bill is attached and as we all clearly seen John Boehner is not going to back down from that demand so if Senate Democrats don’t start talking about a jobs bill with this next unemployment extension then we know he’s just playing another game!

    • Mark

Well that would exclude you then be cause you don’t have the slightest bit of intelligence.

      • DJMiles

I have said since December in detail what Democrats are doing a here we are 6 months later still no extension …..I will say again if the Democrats don’t start talking about attaching a jobs bill to the next unemployment extension then even someone as dumb as you should realize that they are still playing games.

        • Mark

Yeah but you’re completely wrong in every sense of the word.

I have a great idea for a jobs bill. Hire more prosecutors to prosecute wall street criminals and banker criminals. Then start a prison construction program and hire more prison guards. This will create employment and justice will prevail.

      • left wing

look in your mirror mark and see the total lack of intelligence

        • Mark

still smarter than you are troll.

  • DJMiles

Curious to see what Obama says today regarding the 3 million Americans losing all they’ve worked for and being pushed into poverty. …Anyone know what time he will be holding a press conference?

  • Layla Harry

I wonder how many people have considered, attempted or committed suicide over this. I attempted and failed. I am just to the point of not knowing what to do or where to go. I have a degree in accounting and cannot find a job. “Go to McDonald’s.” people say…yeah…duh. So I am back in college with a 3.9 GPA, because I don’t want my mind to cease!
When my marriage failed and I was forced to move back to a stagnant area I was afraid of not finding a job because of the amount of money I had made in the Capital area. Yup…nobody will hire me because I am “over qualified.” I think that’s what the government wants…those of us who are at the end of our ropes to hang ourselves with it and take ourselves out of the equation. Gotta love my country……….

  • deano

we lost our house, and now we are hiding from the repo man…I could have saved the house if the GOP and DEM’s could have reached a deal to extend benefits. I am looking for work everyday, now I cant give an address, we are living in my car.

3 million long term unemployed times $300 a week is $900 million per week
F.U.T.A. taxes are SUPPOSED to be exclusively for unemployed people not a slush fund for pet special tax breaks, projects.
Boehner why are you hoarding $5.82 per worker, per week?
$5.82 buys a pound and a half of hamburger, destroying 3 million people? That the 3 million people once had jobs and contributed to F.U.T.A., and getting utilities, phone, not having car expenses, etc. making it more difficult to find a job.
1.) Labor dept. reported last month 153,000,000 were working.
    2.) 153 million times $5.82 F.U.T.A. per week equals $900,000,000.00 weekly.
3.) That $5.82 per week you use, for other purposes, than what it is originally for would be spent directly into the u.s. economy.

    • left wing

the unemployment fund ran out long ago, all that is left is welfare. the democrats are killing jobs as fast as possible so you will have to depend on welfare and sell your vote to the dems.

      • satoshi n.

The fund did not run out. The fund deducts per week 7% on average PER WEEK of 153,256,118 workers wages. So next week and the week after that 7% will be deducted of 153.2 million currently working .

        • satoshi n.

lw ,Boehner is hoarding $5.82 per week in futa tax. Miserly stealing it away times 153.2 million workers per week x $5.82 is slightly more than the $900 million per week to stop 3 million lives from being destroyed.
Futa collects $6.3 billion per week and pays out $3.1 billion per week leaving a surplus of $3.2 billion per week, spent on things that have nothing to do with unemployment.

153 million employed workers times $30,000.00 per year, equals, F.UT.A. taxable wages of $4 trillion 590 billions.
The average F.U.T.A. percent is 7% or .07
1.) $4 trillion, 590 billion, in taxable wages times .07 equals $321 billion 300 million income to the F.U.T.A tax fund per year,.
2.) $321 billion,300 million divided by 52 weeks equals $6 billion ,180 million per week inflow to F.U.T.A..
3.) $6 billion 180 million CASH per week flows into the F.UT.A . INSURANCE POOL.
4.) 10.1 MILLION RECIEVING unemployment subtracts $3 billion 100 million per week
5.) Leaving a surplus of $ 3 billion dollars per week subtracting $900 million per week would reduce the surplus to $2.1 billion per week.
6.) Boehner what are you using the F.U.T.A. surplus of $3 billion per week FOR?

C.J. Please people Sign the Petition and Thank you for your support
we petition the obama administration to:

Renew the federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program which expired December 28, 2013.

There are over 3.5 million long term unemployed Americans, including over 200,000 military veterans, who have lost EUC benefits since December 28th, 2013.

Please put politics aside and help these hard-working, responsible Americans make ends meet and support their families as they look for a job. For each week that Congress fails to act on this crucial issue, approximately 70,000 more long-term unemployed Americans lose their vital economic lifeline.

Please give John Boehner a call and ask him to allow the House of Representatives to vote on the bipartisan approved Senate bill to extend EUC benefits, which awaits a House vote. Also, please tell Congress to work harder for those who are struggling to get back into the workforce, because our nation’s future depends on it.

THE REPUBLICANS & DEMOCRATIC PARTIES, HAVE FAILED THE MORE THAN 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS WHO ARE STILL OUT OF WORK, WITHOUT AN EXTENSION OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS, SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER. THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO WORK, BUT HAVE NOT FOUND EMPLOYMENT . DUE TO MANY FACTORS, SUCH AS “AGE” AND POOR ECONOMY, EMPLOYMENT FOR THESE WORKERS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE POLLS SAY, THE ECONOMY HAS NOT IMPROVED, AND MILLIONS OF WORKERS ARE STILL WITHOUT JOBS. SINCE LAST DECEMBER, THE REPUBLICANS HAVE HELD THE EXTENSION BILL “HOSTAGE” IN THE SENATE, FOR POLITICAL LEVERAGE AND PARTY AGENDA. MEANWHILE, THESE MILLIONS OF FAMILIES, HAVE FACED EVICTION, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WHILE THE POLITICIANS CONTINUE PLAYING PARTY POLITICS. THE SENATE NEEDS TO PASS THE EXTENSION BILL TO HELP THESE FAMILIES TO FINANCIALLY RECOVER ONCE AGAIN. THESE FAMILIES ARE FACING FINANCIAL RUIN BECAUSE OF THE SIX MONTH DELAY IN BENEFITS. OUR SO CALLED “PUBLIC SERVANTS” NO LONGER SERVE THE PUBLIC’S INTEREST, BUT JUST THEIR OWN.

LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES.THE REPUBLICANS & DEMOCRATIC PARTIES, HAVE BOTH FAILED THE 3 MILLION UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS STILL WITHOUT AN EXTENSION OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS, SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER. BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES HAVE BEEN TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE TO GET THIS MUCH NEEDED BILL PASSED IN THE SENATE. WHILE BILLIONS OF TAX PAYER DOLLARS HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY CONGRESS IN AID FOR THE UKRAINE, MILLIONS OF AMERICAN FAMILIES HAVE FELL INTO FINANCIAL RUIN WAITING FOR HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT, WHICH STILL HASN’T COME. THESE FAMILIES HAVE HAD TO FACE EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WHILE THE REPUBLICANS CONTINUE HOLDING THE EXTENSION BILL “HOSTAGE” IN THE SENATE, FOR POLITICAL LEVERAGE, AND PARTY AGENDA. OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS HAVE ABANDONED THESE 3 MILLION FAMILIES, AND HAVE LEFT THEM HUNG OUT TO DRY, WITH NO SUPPORT. WHERE IS THEIR COMPASSION, AND COMMON DECENCY?

  • Yonatan YONATAN

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE…THERES’ THREE MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES WHO HAVE BEEN WITHOUT AN UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER. THESE FAMILIES ARE TRULY BROKE, AND BECOMING FINANCIALLY RUINED WITH EACH PASSING DAY. BOTH THE REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS HAVE UTTERLY FAILED THESE FAMLIES, AND HAVE TURNED THEIR BACKS ON THEM ALREADY, AND JUST WALKED AWAY FROM THE ISSUE. MEANWHILE MORE AND MORE ARE FACING EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WHILE WAITING FOR THE HELP WHICH DOESN’T COME. HELP AND ASSISTACNE HAS COME FOR THE UKRAINE HOWEVER. CONGRESS PASSED A FOREIGN AID BILL WORTH BILLIONS OF TAX PAYER DOLLARS FOR THAT COUNTRY. I GUESS IT’S ONLY THE POOR AND STRUGGLING HERE THAT THEY REFUSE TO HELP

  • Yonatan YONATAN

LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES…WHAT ABOUT THE 3 MILLION UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS WHO HAVE BEEN WITHOUT AN UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER? THESE FAMILIES, MANY OF WHOM, HAVE FACED FINANCIAL RUIN, OVER THE PASSED SIX MONTHS DUE TO THE INABILITY OF THE TWO POLITICAL PARTIES TO ACT EFFECTIVELY ON THEIR BEHALF. WHEN BILLIONS OF TAX PAYER DOLLARS HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR THE UKRAINE, THE REPUBLICANS ARE STILL UNCERTAIN WHETHER WE CAN AFFORD TO HELP THESE UNEMPLOYED AMERICAN FAMILIES. HOW CAN THIS BE EVEN POSSIBLE TO BE HAPPENING? IS IT MORE COST EFFECTIVE TO HAVE THESE MILLIONS OF FAMILIES NEEDING TO GO ON PUBLIC ASSISTANCE AND FOOD STAMPS IN ORDER TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES INSTEAD? THE REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATS HAVE BOTH FAILED THESE THREE MILLION FAMILIES MISERABLY. MAYBE THEY JUST DON’T CARE ANYMORE. MAYBE THEY’RE MORE CONCERN WITH THEIR OWN PARTY AGENDA AND PERSONAL ENRICHMENT. THE NEXT ELECTION PROMISES TO BE A TIME FOR TOTAL CHANGE IN THE POLITICAL ARENA. MANY OF THESE POLITICIANS WILL NOT BE IN OFFICE.

It is time for a civil war to take our government back from crooked politicans. It is always a good day to die for a worthy cause, Death is better than a life with no financial means to exsist. This country has left the unemployed for dead with no further concerns for them. This is liberty?

  • David

All we need is someone with financial backing to be our leader and we can take back what was once the peoples … America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. Well the time is now to show how brave you are and stand up to crooked politicans that do much more harm than good to us. This only happens becasue the people allow it to. Along the road somewhere politicans got the people to believe that they don’t have a voice. The voice of the people should be the only voice, politicans are put in office to do the will of the people and not to line their pockets with dirty money. Are you fed up … are you willing to do something about it? Politicans dishonor the people they are supposed to serve every day and it has become the standard and acceptable to us. It is always a good day to die for a worthy cause, I wish were all in DC taking our government back today.

  • David

Politicans should have to take an oath that says “Death before dishonor”. When they are caught lying or cheating the people they should face the death penalty. That would stop our crooked politics in this country. You couldn’t get any of these conartists to sign that, they all go in to office looking forward to seeing how much they can get away with. This countrys political system is a joke and a farce. Certainly not what our founding fathers had in mind for our government. Read quotes from Thomas Jefferson and tell me he did not see Boehner coming …

Boehner’s only real concern today is getting the Boehner/Koch Keystone XL Pipeline approved so the brothers can line his pockets with dirty cash. Boehner should be publically executed for what he has done. He is as crooked as any politican on “the hill” where the truth is rarely spoken.

  • David

It is just too bad that the people are not fed up enough to take back our government from crooked politicans. It is all just a joke as the people sit back and watch as crooked politicans take this country down to the lowest points in history. Politicans are supposed to do the work and the will of the people, there isn’t a single honest politican that can say he has not taken a bribe while under a lie detector. This country is going to hell in a hand basket faster than people realize. It is only a matter of time and this will just be another third world country where the people will have no say in anything. Screw the democrats and republicans alike as none of them have the best interest of the people in mind. All they want is to line their pockets while they can. Personally I see Boehner as probably the worst speaker the house has ever had. His only interest is to serve the Koch brothers so they can “contribute” to him. I would really enjoy watching Boehner questioned about his motives while taking a lie detector test, it would register off the charts because he couldn’t possibly tell the truth as it would lead to criminal charges. All just part of the new age that we live in where corruption is the new standard for politics in almost all cases. Shame on the people for allowing the government to take away their control and for allowing politicans to silence the voice of the people.

We need a Government of the many, not Government of the money.

now for me,i will not put my trust in a corrupt, unjust, greedy goverment. all one has to do is look at the past. greedy kings and misleading nobles never prospered. they had thier morning prayers also.they claimed they knew god and worshipped him,but proved false by thier actions. God has destoyed many then and will do it again.that time is near. strange thing is, i dont go to church. i just like history, it doesnt lie

Sign this if you can’t believe this: the tax cut bill that was just approved is 60 times as much as it would cost to pass the extension of emergency unemployment insurance, seven times the combined yearly investment in education, job training and social services, and 10 times the budget for veterans.

Has the government forgotten about the three million unemployed workers, and their families, STILL WITHOUT an extension of unemployment benefits since last December? While Billions of tax payers dollars are sent to the Ukraine in an aid package, more and more of these unemployed continue to sink into financial ruin. How can our government send our sons & daughters off to war, but not help their unemployed loved ones back at home? The republican senate has failed these millions of voters, and their families. These Americans have lost all trust and hope and respect for the government because of this lack of compassion, and common decency
