Reid Wants to Pass Unemployment Insurance, Ukraine Aid and ‘Doc Fix’ This Week

Looking to pass an unemployment insurance extension, pay for doctors and an aid package for Ukraine, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., warned that the Senate may have to stay in through the weekend if Republicans launch filibusters.

“Everyone should understand we have a lot to do,” Reid said on the Senate floor.

“We may have to be in this weekend if we are forced to go through all of the procedural hoops.”

Senate Democrats have signaled they are going full-speed ahead on the bipartisan bill restoring emergency unemployment benefits despite opposition to their bill from Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio. Reid also wants to act to spare doctors from a severe cut in Medicare payments slated to begin next month and tee up a bill to raise the minimum wage for debate next week.

But Republicans could throw a monkey wrench in Reid’s plan if they don’t agree to expedite consideration of the three bills.

The first order of business will be the Ukraine bill. The Senate is expected to clear a procedural vote this evening on the measure, which has bipartisan support.

Reid was critical of Republicans who before the recess objected to his unanimous consent request to set up a time for a vote on passage of a bill.

Some Republicans oppose language in the bill that would allow the International Monetary Fund that would approve an overhaul of the IMF’s structure. Heritage Action For America opposes the bill and said it would use the vote as part of its legislative scorecard, which the group contends gauges how conservative members are.

But Reid said it would augment the $1 billion in loan guarantees that the bill would provide.

“This legislation provides … direct money for Ukraine,” Reid said, adding that with the IMF provision “they would be able to multiply that money many times over what we put into this.”

Reid praised Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn. — the ranking member of the Foreign Relations Committee, which approved the measure before the recess — for his support of the measure. He also praised Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and others for their support.

“I am hopeful and somewhat confident that this legislation will receive the bipartisan support it deserves,” Reid said.

The majority leader also that he wants to clear a bipartisan measure that would extend unemployment insurance benefits for five months. The proposal would be offset by a combination of revenue-raisers, including extending customs user fees.

“That is one thing we have to do this work period and we are going to try to do that,” Reid said, adding that some people are being “driven into poverty” after benefits expired in December.

Other business he wants to consider includes legislation for the so called “doc fix.” Unless Congress acts, doctors who treat Medicare patients would see a 23.7 percent cut in their reimbursements on April 1, which would likely motivate physicians to stop seeing new or existing Medicare patients.

Reid also wants to set up action on a bill to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour — a signature proposal for the Democrats this year but one that has yet to attract much Republican support.

    Here is an idea
Make the doctors wait 3 months like the unemployed have
Forget giving anything to Ukraine, let other countries help them
    Pass the unemployment bill
I have 3 families in my neighborhood that are suffering badly because of this unemployment fiasco
    Help starts at home

    • Brenda Eichhorn

      Amen!

    • Dave

      AGREED!

    • No Need For That

Totally agree! It’s become ridiculous at this point!! Pass the damn unemployment extention already…people are hurting….but what do they care, it won’t interfere with their golf game!! Help OUR country…OUR people…instead of worrying about everyone in every OTHER country!

    • Walter Lawrence

I have another idea….you can shut up when doctors refuse to see these patients.

      • aaaa aa

        You again Wally?
Must be sad to come home to no one and have nothing better to do than post moronic comments towards others, yet never make an educated comment yourself
Doctors refuse to see patient?I can shut up???huhWhat is that suppose to mean??

      • aaaa aa

WALLY WALLY WALLY WALLY WALLY WALLY WALLY WALLY
WAH WAH WAH WAH BOO HOO

      • Christopher Hurt

Wally…..iiiiiiiiiiiii hope your one thats refused jr and its terminal

        • S.2148

Where is Wally? I saw you in the picture. Look in the mirror you Slap jaw homosexual actor!

  • aaaa aa

amazing how much the hustle and work fast when it comes to the wealthy (doctors) and other countries

    • Walter Lawrence

Hey, jackass. Not all doctors are rich, and most have gigantic loans to be paid back.

  • OldmanRick

I was under the impression that the US bank rolled the IMF. If so, the US taxpayer will be stuck with the tab. BTW, we know that the brat will let the Ukraine fall so why invest in a restored Russian puppet state.

    • Walter Lawrence

Of course he will. Obama is a coward, above all else, and his word means nothing. That is why the adults in Israel now just look at him with the contempt he deserves.

  • Robin Collins

Pass the Edd bill already and quit stalling tick tock…..B4 any Ukraine $$$$

  • FedUpInNJ

Disgusting that Americans AGAIN take second place to the Ukraine and Russia and Syria. I thought we elected US Representatives?! Shameful! Vote them ALL out in Nov!

    • Debbie Niemeyer

AGREED: VOTE THEM OUT. THAT IS THE KEY MANTRA FROM HERE ON OUT. (SORRY FOR THE CAPS…BUT I AM KIND OF PISSED)

    • Unemployed

I agree wholeheartedly. A very large problem is that most people, and not even all people, think that the only vote that matters, or that they did to participate in, is the Presidential vote. How do you think the Congress and Senators getting voted in? We vote them in as well. If you don’t vote, it’s like giving the evil son of gun running for office your vote. I agree, vote them ALL out in November! If Governor Rick Scott is voted out of his role of Governor in the State of Florida, it will be the most shameful, disgusting, display of either “voting tampering” – or the people of Florida not taking the time to get him out, yet complaining about him constantly. I don’t know one suffering unemployed, without medical insurance, or even employed and only making a child’s salary, while the prices of rents, homes and food is SOARING here – that doesn’t complain about Rick Scott and his ignorance and arrogant behavior or decisions – but I know very much so .. that most of them aren’t voting outside of Presidential voting.

  • Rick

Nice to know the problems of people in other countries, takes priority over the hundreds of thousands of Americans losing their homes and going hungry, each week that this deal is delayed.
And I bet you that some of these lazy good-for-nothing Congressmen, who just got back from yet another vacation, are grumbling over the notion they might have to work through the weekend to get their agenda done.

  • Ricki Ward

At least Reid is doing something and Boehner got SHOT DOWN!!!! It’s about time!!!

  • Ricki Ward

I agree that UI should be first on the list!!! We have waited long enough and lost enough.

  • Prolapse

    Will finally get passed.

  • Robert Leonard

EUB first…Then let’s worry about foreign countries and wealthy doctors.

    • Walter Lawrence

And when doctors refuse to see Medicaid patients, just shut your mouth and say nothing.

  • The Crying Tangerine

Planet earth to washington.. planet earth to washington…

  • The Crying Tangerine

    come in washington..

  • Based_Knowledge

I have created a petition to impeach Boehner. I’d be surprised if the moderators of this sight would let the link post, but wit this petition we can send message to these elected officials that they work for us. http://wh.gov/lpleB
    .

    • Annie Rose

I signed it and shared it.

    • michael burke

I was going to sign that until I read it. The grammar is horrifying. No wonder… ugh, never mind. That’s embarrassing.

      • Based_Knowledge

I typed it up on my phone after I woke up one morning. I made it out of anger, but I’ll continue to stand by my misspelled words and terrible grammar.

    • Walter Lawrence

Try going back to school to get that 8th grade diploma. You are an embarrassment to everyone

    • Sharon Zilinskas

I am on this petition NOW. THANK YOU!!!!!!

  • MarineOutOfWork

At this point I’m sorry I served in the United States Marine Corps. I wish I could take it back. Basturds!!

    • Janet L Brown

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. YOU ARE VERY COURAGEOUS!!

  • Mark Hall

Vote every single one of them out this fall!! Republicans and Democrats!! Elect all new. None of them give a damn about us Americans. Just remember it only took them a couple of days to make sure they got paid for the shutdown that they caused!!!

    • Shizue Leigh Hicks

Absolutely right on every single point!

    • bosoxinny

None of the ‘new’ are any better.

  • Kristen

I have been out of work since May 2013 after being with an organization for 20 years. I have searched for a job since the day I was let go. When unemployment insurance was cut, I had to go and apply for welfare and food stamps. We have cut all of the non necessities in our house and there is not much more I can cut. I would gladly take any job if it was offered to me. I have applied for minimum wage jobs and have been told I am over qualified or I would be bored doing the job. I am just one person with a story there are 2.2 million other stories some much sadder than mine. What the House Representatives fail to understand is that there are people who would love to work and are doing everything they can to work…..we are not ‘deadbeats’ who just want to sit at home all day and collect a check.

  • josiah

Thank you for all of your efforts in helping the unemployed, especially veterans like myself. This will not be forgotten the next vote.

  • Tee Soonuwillknow

I have NEVER understood why my dang blasted tax dollars have to continuously be spent overseas. When are they going to be spent HERE! I am a US resident, never left the country, don’t plan on leaving, never even visited outside of the country for any reason and my taxes are being paid OVERSEAS and you mean to tell me you take take take and you can’t give us some of our money back and help the families HERE?

stupidity… You know election time is comin….. I’ve all of a sudden developed a case of vote for Tom and Jerry…..

    • Suzanne Nimocks

Please don’t waste your vote on Tom and Jerry. Republicans in Congress are being controlled by outside money that influences their actions. Just look at their record. They don’t want to create jobs and they vote against the well-being of Americans every time they can. Just vote out all the Republicans. They are anti-American.

      • Mike

You know that the decision to send money to Ukraine is bipartisan, right? To demonize the Republicans in favor of Democrats is like turning your nose up at cow manure while hugging horse manure. They are both equally disassociated with the American populace. The Democrats are more dangerous, though, because they are trying to buy votes by irresponsibly passing bills to ‘help the working man,’ when any educated person could tell you that there are serious consequences. For example, who in their right mind would think a 30% increase in minimum wage won’t have incredible effects on our economy? It’s knee jerk reactionary policy meant to cast the Dems in a benevolent light, and the country pays the price for their ignorance.

Trust me, I have plenty to say about the Republicans too, but I don’t think I need to convince you that they’re irresponsible ;)

        • Suzanne Nimocks

Your comment is not constructive or informed. If you don’t support our President, fine. I do, and I’m confident he’s doing the right thing. I think that opposing Obama on this issue is like being a traitor in favor of Russia.

          • Mike

I’m sorry, was this meant in response to my statement or did you mean to click ‘reply’ on something else? I never said anything about Obama :-s

      • Walter Lawrence

Were you born stupid or did you have to work at it ?

        • Christopher Hurt

Damn Wally , another comment ? Im taking it you didnt have to work at being stupid, it comes natural,Kudo’s genius

  • FedUpInNJ

Considering almost 3 million unemployed Americans are NOT PAYING ANY TAXES you would think they would get this passed already but I guess the government doesn’t need the tax $ from the unemployed that they pay on the money they get! Deficit? What deficit?! We can send 150 million $ to the Ukraine but can’t help our own citizens?! Shameful. Vote them all out in Nov and start with all new people, and get rid of those blocking happy Republicans!

  • Norma Noonan

Boehner is fulfilling his constituent obligations first before he’s doing what’s right. The stereotype that unemployed Americans are lazy! Or they claim they will become lazy they just phrase it in a more elegant way. My spouse is unemployed and he is looking. All these online applications make it difficult to get a job. You can’t differentiate yourself, or show how much you want a job. He will take anything but since he’s a white collar worker he can’t get hired at Home Depot, WalMart, etc… Stupid idiots in Congress do NOT have a clue.

    • bosoxinny

White collar, Blue collar….doesn’t matter. It is very, very difficult, to even be called for an initial interview, all over the place. I was just laid off from a job that I held for almost 20 years….mass layoff because the company sold. I just started collecting about a month ago, but I am VERY quickly learning that, due to my age (48) and the lack of jobs, I will be in the same position as many of you are in just a few months.

      • NatBe

Yes; I too was laid off. It was 1/1/13. Yes it is very difficult. I have been retraining. Getting caught up. I am in IT. I was in the same contract essentially for 20+ years. I got promoted and learned a new job on the job. It is a whole new world. The game is completely new. I work about as hard now as when I was working full time and going to college full time. But I am jobless and earning no pay. I am just looking for a job and studying…

  • Ted Cruz

Welp….you can see where the priorities are for all of them…Let’s see they passed a bloated budget…passed a Farm Bill to take care of corporate farmers, raised the debt ceiling so they can get paid, left soldiers and unemployed Americans out to dry…took at least 4 vacations and NOW they are going to make sure the Ukraine and all theur doctor buddies get greased first. It truly is shameful

  • jamie

so are they gonna pass it?

  • Debbie Niemeyer

Here’s an idea for Senator Reid:
%$#@ OFF YOU DOUBLE TALKING SPINELESS PIECE OF CRAP. I pray these people, LEFT AND RIGHT, are voted out of office come November. What a disgusting charade.

  • Berkshire_Boy

I’m all for helping Ukraine but the sorry spectacle in Congress over renewing UI for Americans is disgusting. Worst Congress ever!

  • Fiji’s Best

The malfeasance and dishonesty of Hussein Obama’s criminal regime contributed the US government’s credit rating downgrade on 05 Aug 2011.

  • phishphantom

As a Republican voter for the past 20 years I can say that I will no longer vote for them anymore. I’ll never vote for a Commie Democrat either.
They both suck and neither care about the unemployed nor have any ideas on how to get us back to work.

  • Sheila

OMG…Sending money overseas when families HERE are losing everything?????
Pass the unemployment extension 1st. We DON’T send $ anywhere when 1 American is going hungry and has worked for the benefits, let alone over 2 million.
The members of the Senate, the House, and any other politician that voted NO for the unemployment extension needs to go. Maybe they can collect what we haven’t.

  • Sheila

Talk about sitting back and collecting a check………that’s all our Senate and House are doing. They are getting nothing done on any level. I am out daily looking for and wanting to work. Useless bunch, the lot of them. Obama has been a disappointment as well.

  • NatBe

I think we’ll (us long-term unemployed–mostly older workers–LOL) get it this time. I’m using my time to get trained. Having an income and being able to pay some of my bills helps me calm down enough to study for my certifications so I can get a job. It is extremely difficult to compete GLOBALLY now. Of the interviews I’ve been on a few of them the managers have confessed to having part of their staff overseas … And, though I was qualified for the job, I didn’t get it! I’m smart, I’ve spent the last two years working hard in multiple ways–getting trained, learning how to work on a team, learning how to interview… I’ve got experience. I’ve got references. But no… Someone else beat me out. It’s a really tough market. All I can do is be tougher. That’s what I have to do … And to say that NOT PAYING ME, is going to help me do that, is NOT a solution. It is a way to lead me to DESPAIR. To take away all support is crazy.
It’s true I have to be tough but I can’t do it without an income. I am single and I do not have an inheritance or savings. I do not have wealth.

  • GetBentGOP

    Irony:

“Unemployed workers need our assistance in these difficult times, and we cannot let them down. I have shared these concerns with the leaders of the House and the Senate, and they understand the need for early action. When our legislators return to the Capitol, I ask them to make the extension of unemployment benefits a first order of business. And the benefits they approve should be retroactive, so that people who lose their benefits this month will be paid in full.”

    - George W. Bush, 2002

“We have, in some of the hardest-hit states, extended the unemployment insurance. There’s nothing that strikes to my heart more than the unemployed.”

    - Ronald Reagan, 1982

Even their god Reagan understood. What a shameful party they have devolved into.

  • Matthew Pieri

  • elf

Please continue to send your messages to Boehner…www.speaker.gov/contact

How much rejection can people take? Older workers are being rejected by potential employers. The people we hired to help make our lives better are now rejecting us. Canada is looking better.

    • Sebastian Klay

that or file for ssd. tell them your dog is depressed….presto approved.

    • Walter Lawrence

I have gotten two full time 6 figure jobs within the last year and a half and I am 67. You get rejected if you have no discernible skills.

      • Christopher Hurt

no way your 67, how can someone as stupid as yourself survive this long…..Delusions of grandeur…. theres a diagnosis for that jr

  • frustrated

    AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • UWorlds

I just don’t understand them saying they can’t pay people retroactively. After the government shutdown they paid everyone retroactively. I file for unemployment every week. My name is in the system…I don’t get it.

The Republicans would like to see the middle class fall off the face of the planet. They oppose raising minimum wage? First of all, in the year 2014, $10.10 an hour isn’t ENOUGH to pay rent, electric, phone and internet and we lived in a world where internet is now a forced requirement. What about food? I’d like to see these so called Republicans try and live on $10.10 an hour – minimum wage should be MINIMALLY at $12.00 an hour, which would then force Corporate America and all of the smaller businesses that follow, to then pay higher rates of pay for the non-minimum wage jobs – rates of pay that have dropped drastically over the past near decade. A highly skilled, Admin/Exec Assistant 10+ years ago, who’s on the run all day, multi-tasking, running 5 programs at once, working on 3 projects at once, managing expense reports, supporting staff’s of 10-50 people and more, were getting paid FOR THEIR WORK and their experience – minimally $18 an hour (minimally) and the average for such an employee was far higher. Today? That same position, requiring the same requirements and skills, if not more, with a much larger workload, is paying approximately $12-$14 an hour, while the cost of rent is increasing and the cost of food is becoming impossible. They oppose raising minimum wage? They’d rather see more jobs created than putting through our extension? I’m one of the long-term employed who lost my extensions, so let me say this. WE’VE HEARD IT BEFORE – “MORE JOBS WILL BE CREATED” – It CANNOT be done, not in time. They cannot produce the $1000s of Admin/Exec support roles that have thrown thousands upon thousands of Admin/Exec support people into poverty overnight. That would take a near decade if not longer, and they would first have to imagine, then create, brand new offices, with large staff, requiring many assistants, and they’ve had to figure out what this brand new company is going to do and/or sell – what would be their purpose? And that’s just one company and they’d have to create hundreds of them. It isn’t just construction people out of work, engineers out of work – we don’t just need more highway’s built or more construction and blue collar people back to work (though they need to get back to work too) – WHAT ABOUT THE OFFICE SUPPORT PEOPLE? Running out of money last week, after using ALL of the last of my savings, selling a few things and sending out resume after resume yet NOT getting responses – or receiving form responses (thank you for submitting your resume, if you meet the requirements we will contact you, if you do not hear back from us, please keep checking our website for available positions in the future). All I do is send out my resume – and NOTHING … so I ran out of money – and I had to call my credit card companies to beg them to please give me a one time emergency hardship cash advance limit so I could pay my upcoming rent – and I will then use my other 2 credit cards to pay my household bills. Tell me …. what do I do 4 weeks later, when all 3 of my credit cards are then maxed out, their payments are due, and if not paid, my credit will be ruined, as it was 7 years ago and I WORKED MY BACK OFF TO FIX THE MESS THAT HAPPENED IN MY CREDIT DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE RECESSION – 7 YEARS OF KILLING MYSELF TO REBUILD MY CREDIT – AND NOW IT WILL BE DESTROYED IN 4 WEEKS FROM NOW? How dare these Republicans NOT care. NOT ONE of them have any idea what it’s like to be in our shoes, nor do they care. I’ve never cared for either party – all I’ve ever card about is who cares about the people the most – but it has become HUGELY APPARENT that the Republicans not only don’t care about the middle class, but are trying to eliminate us all together. And, I live in FL, where Governor Rick Scott is running the show – not only a Republican, but the most evil son of a gun I’ve ever seen as a Governor. He has NO concern at all for what is happening in FL, he refused to allow “single women without dependents or disabilities” to obtain medicaid. REFUSED. So, I have no job, i can’t find work, and I’m not eligible for Medicaid if I get sick (and I had cancer 2 years ago and need to have wellness checkups), because I am a single woman? You want to talk about evil? He nearly destroyed us all in FL when he put up a $63 million dollar Unemployment System that didn’t work and left us all unable to receive our benefits or correct benefits for months prior to the extensions getting cancelled, so we’ve been battling since way before December – he couldn’t care less if a single person cannot find work is sick and has no medical insurance, refusing to allow us obtain Medicaid, which completely conflicts with Obamacare, the salary pace in FL for non-degreed, middle-aged people (40s or so), even with years of experience is approximately $12 – $14 to start, and they are temp jobs at that (no medical insurance and they end), and the list goes on and on. In Florida, with a Governor like him, we were already suffering more than most other States, it’s REALLY bad here, he is evil incarnate, but across the board, in every state, we NEED HELP. The long term unemployed is going to end up homeless and/or in hospitals for stress related illnesses – this is no joke! They know it too – and THEY DO NOT CARE – it’s intentional, they are literally trying to do away with the middle class. I’m disgusted at what is being allowed to happen in this Country – I am no longer proud to be an American and haven’t been for the past near decade, and even more so over the pats 2-3 years. What happened to “we the people” – they’re supposed to be working for US — but they aren’t – it’s all one huge Corporation (the government) – they’re working for themselves and their buddies – money with money. This Country has become disgusting – and anyone who voted and/or votes in the mid-term elections and votes in anyone of these evil, wealthy, uncaring, heartless Republicans (some are wonderful – not all are evil – I’m talking about the ones who literally do not care), should be ashamed of yourselves. If you don’t get out and vote, you can’t get your senate and congressmen OUT OF OFFICE – the Presidential vote is NOT the only vote that cares. If I wasn’t on the brink of destruction, I would absolutely move out of this Country and be proud to do it. It’s no longer God Bless America – it’s God Help America. I’m ashamed to be here, I’m ashamed being compared to other civilized Countries and I’m disgusted by the entire misuse of the constitution, misuse of the entire government and what it is obvious to us all, yet no one does anything about it. HOW MANY VACATIONS DO THEY HAVE? SERIOUSLY – THEY HAD A WEEK OFF DURING ST. PATTY’S DAY WEEK? THEY HAVE SO MUCH PAID TIME OFF IN GOVERNMENT IT’S PATHETIC. These people do not care. And what about the animals? Do they care about them??????? There is an overflow – literally an overflow of shelter animals, abandoned and being killed every single day – THOUSANDS A DAY across the US, because people can no longer afford to feed or care for their beloved pets – and these animals have emotions – they feel fear, they feel sadness, they feel heartbreak, they feel anxiety, they feel stress and they feel physical pain. LOOK WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO US! Get the damn extensions back up and running – forget all these ridiculous rules about if unemployed for 9 months bring them in to find out what they’re doing, and the countless other proposed rules. WE DON’T NEED RULES – WE NEED EMERGENCY HELP AND RESPECT ENOUGH TO BE BELIEVED THAT WE ARE SEARCHING FOR WORK IN THE ONLY WAY THERE IS, AND NON-STOP – bring in, immediately emergency training programs for NOT just the basic skills that we all ALREADY HAVE – but for higher skilled programs and training (Quickbooks, website design, tech support, etc) and up the amount of money each state gets to give this free training to the unemployed. Hold immediate seminars (government held one on one seminars) in every single county of every single state, teaching and demanding these companies about the risks and irresponsibility of not hiring the long-term unemployment or people over 30 or 40. Stop looking at only building, construction and highway new jobs and START LOOKING AT THE COUNTLESS OFFICE WORKERS THAT ARE, AND HAVE BEEN BATTLING UNEMPLOYMENT AND TEMP WORK FOR THE PAST NEAR DECADE NOW. BRING BACK manufacturing to the US immediately!!!!!!! Take cuts in your pay of $100K+ a year! Stop all the government vacation time and allow them to get the same amount of vacation time that an ordinary person working in the US receives. STOP the medical benefits they receive through the government, even after they retire – and let them be forced to obtain them on their own just as we are. Stop the raises and bonuses for anyone making 6 figures or more a year – and give that money to the people you are only offering $12 an hour to!!!! You want to make “rules” for the suffering long-term unemployed to be able to get this emergency help? We don’t need rules, we need help. How about the people that votes you in gives you some rules – the ones mentioned above! And to the lovely Governor of FL, I hope you rot, I truly do. Due to you, even with Obamacare, and I believe in Obama, the ONLY president who’s actually TRIED to help the one class of people suffering the most in the US, and the ONLY president who has kept to his promises and stood steady on his beliefs regardless of the sticks and stones thrown at him … but thanks to FL’s REPUBLICAN Governor – I cannot get medicaid while unemployed and ill – yet without income or any job to find – AND ALL I DO IS LOOK, I also can’t afford even the most low of benefits offered through Obamacare. Hmmm, let me see, use the last of my credit cards to pay my rent, or use it for health insurance and get thrown out. HOW DARE YOU LEAVE SINGLE PEOPLE OUT OF THE MEDICAID POOL – WE ARE WORTHY, IMPORTANT PEOPLE WITH MEANING JUST AS ANYONE ELSE IS! YOU GIVE US OUR EMERGENCY BENEFITS BACK, WITH NO RULES – STOP WASTING ALL OF OUR TIME WITH YOUR FIGHTING OVER RULES AND HOW YOU WANT IT DONE – AND FOLLOW OUR RULES!!!!!!! You want to help us? Then listen to us. IT’S YOU THAT DOESN’T WANT TO GIVE UP ANYTHING, yet you call use lazy or comfortable? How dare you!

  • Unemployed

Bottom line … the government isn’t working for “us” … we the people, the government is working for themselves, as well as the wealthy, the high power people. We pay them, we are their employers, but they don’t work for us – nor are they concerned with us. They are only concerned with their own kind – the wealthy and the people of power – and we have allowed this to go on for so long in our country (generations upon generations) that there is no turning it around now. We pay them, they penalize us if we don’t pay them, yet they “work” for themselves. Welcome to the United States of America folks. We’re nothing, but pawns in their game, and at times, in their way —- we’re annoying to them, a problem to them they wish would go away … and if we don’t, they’ll find a way to make us go away as they already have. It’s pretty hard to fight back and “annoy them” when you’ve been stripped of your dignity, confidence, control over your own life, medical insurance, ability to find work – ability to find work that pays a salary high enough to pay for even the most basic expenses in the year 2014, stripping us of our homes, our cars and our food. Once that’s done – we disappear into oblivion and no longer annoy them.

And stop helping other countries before you help your own. Bottom line

Regarding the Doctors – if they do not help the doctors right now – you’re going to see even more of decline of medical help in the US. It’s already declined by huge numbers. Doctors paid enormous amounts of money to go to school – came out of school with HUGE debts – they went into the field to help people, their love of science and medicine – wanting to make a difference, and came out of school with huge debts – and then welcome in Managed Care, which began full force about 20 years ago, give or take, and suddenly Doctors were making a fraction of what they used to make, but had to see triple or more of the amounts of patients. This cause a lack of good medical care – a lack of personal relationships with our doctors – a sheer cattle call while sitting in your doctor’s office waiting for your appointment for hours. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the sheer cost of their malpractice insurance raised through the roof. You think doctors have it easy? If they did, why do you think they are booking 4 patients at a time, rushing you through your appointments and feeling so stressed? They aren’t getting paid anywhere near enough by these Managed Care Insurance companies – they are being destroyed by them – and if they lower the Medicare payments to them, on top of the malpractice insurance they must have, and the huge cost of that – not only will no one want to become a Doctor anymore – as it used to be a dream of little children – but the existing Doctors will start going out of business more and more – and the care we receive will become worse. WHY do you think people that belong in hospitals for a few days are being released within 24 hours over the past decade or so? You think that’s hospital policy? You think that’s the recommendation by the doctors? IT’S THE MANAGED CARE INSURANCE COMPANIES THAT ARE FORCING IT. Doctor’s submit their bills and then get paid a mere tiny fraction of what their charge was. Yet you want doctors to wait? No, this doctor and medicare thing is urgent as well. However – as far as the Ukraine goes – I’ve been disgusted by the enormous amount of money and help we’ve been giving EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN TROUBLE for the past I don’t know how many years, while their own people of the United States are suffering beyond words!

In Florida, they disallowed us to continue claiming our weeks, if we were no longer able to receive benefits. So we can still login to our system, but we cannot claim our unemployed weeks. What this does? It makes their number of unemployed look smaller as our Governor repeats over and over again how the unemployment rate in FL has gone down. Of course it has, we can’t prove that we’re still out here!

    • Paul Tacoma

Here in Ohio they’ve stopped us from continuing to report our weeks as well.

    • DisgustedInMichigan

Sure!!! We are unable to as well in Michigan! Can you believe….. Michigan just reported the LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE in ????? How dumb do they think people are??? Sure some just went from the Hopeful Unemployment line to Michigan Welfare-Way of living!!! Then Snyder offers to help by cracking the safe to made ton of $$$$ for Home heating assistance…… So being a 1pay check family w. Expenses based on 2 income family… I decided to try & take advantage of this home heating assistance…guess what???? We were $17 over the income guideline???? Thank you very much Snyder!!!

Our politicians are disgusting. Kudos to those who are FINALLY trying to do the right thing with unemnployment, but shame on them for playing politics with the lives of all those people who depend on unemployment benefits. It makes me sick that politicians assume anyone on unemployment is a slacker milking the government. Who do they think they are?? It’s definitely time to overhaul our government and take it back. Enough of the rich politicians with all those special interest groups in their back pockets.

  • Paul DeSimone

How about this: If the Unemployment bill doesn’t get passed, we organize a group to stop access to Boners home so he can’t get home, like many of the unemployed that have lost their homes. We need to forget about other countries and make the doctors wait like what was said below.

I can only hope they will get the message and wake up to the dismal truth. PLEASE PASS THE EUC. Please get back to taking care of the people in United States. We all have worked so hard trying to live the American dream. Don’t make it for nothing.

Stop working towards creating a caste society, like other countries. The have and the have not’s. Your actions are speaking volumes. They do want to remove the middle class. I can’t even afford to rent a home any more, the rents are ridiculous, let alone ever be able to buy a home. Homes sell for way over asking and look who is buying them. Look around, the neighborhoods are being taken over and the middle class is being systematically eliminated. It is time to vote them out of office, please pay attention and vote wisely.

  • Gary

Let’s see help other countries that do give damn about us or are country. Or help starving Americans who have lost everything or about too decisions decisions.

  • Sharon Zilinskas

Keep the money here at home for our people. WE PAID INTO UNEMPLOYMENT!! give us what is due us!! this is so unfair. how about hold the paychecks of Congress and Senate. How about that for a start? Hmmm they would have voted months ago. Sick world-sick politicians. vote them all out. We are all in agreement here. we have to do something and quickly. so many Americans are needlessly suffering. this is just horrible.

  • Sharon Zilinskas

And what should all those waiting for a voteon the unemployment ext. do for money? How do they stay in their apartments? what about their mortg payents? by the time they get any aide the fees will be so high they won’t have any mney left for food or utilities. Congress SHOULD pay their bills. It would only be fair. And what about our leader? I cannot believe he cannot do anything about this. How is this allowed to happen to the unemployed? and how can the US even think about sending money to the Ukraine? I am at a loss for words…. the actions of Congess leaves us one choice…vote them all out! We need new leadership. Leaders that truly care about us. It is obvious this leadership doesn’t.

    • Walter Lawrence

I guess the idea of getting another job has not occurred to you.

      • Sharon Zilinskas

I was speaking on behalf of those who need the unemployment help right now. Those who have worked and paid into this fund. AND Guess what Walter I have 2 jobs. one full time (i’ve been employed for 25 years) and the other 17 years part time. However one tme in my life I was on unemployment. and I was on it for 1-1/2 yrs. before that I worked for over 12 years. there are 3 people for every available job right now statistically speaking. Unemployment is only temporary. One cannot live on it forever. But it is a way to make ends meet or try to until you find a job. In order to find a job, you need gas, a car, paid car insurance, or bus fare, you need clothes for the interview, you need day care if you have children. Also you have to pay your rent or mortage and utilities, you have to pay your cell bill so that the potential employer can contact you. you need paper to send out resumes, a computer, online access. or the library but you need a way to the library if it’s too far to walk. So I ask you have you thought of any of that before sending me that heartless message. One day you may find yourself in a position where you may not HAVE. let’s see how you feel then.

Im losing all hope in EVERYTHING. Damn government can’t come to an agreement to help its own citizens but can help other countries no problem. Even if this does pass, its only thru May. I have send 100′s of resumes applied to 100′s of jobs online and nothing, not even an interview. Thank goodness 99% of applications are done online, otherwise, these employers would see me crying. Crying because I already know I’m not going to get the job let alone an interview even though I am more than qualified. I can’t wait 5 years from now to see statistics such as suicide rate, domestic violence, and burglery. Its all going to go.up during this time, it always does. When is Congress going yo learn you will have to pay one way or another. If its not EUI you pay, you will have to pay the increase of welfare benefits, the crime rate will go up and then the people will want more cops, homelessness will go up. And to hear that implementing this will be difficult. Well send out our claim forms we fill out every two weeks and let us fill them out and send them back in and then process them. How difficult is that. Of course it will take time, but at least it would get done. I just don’t understand what will happen after the 5 months. Hell, thats coming up. How are 2 milliin people going to be employed in only two months? Most of us have already been unemployed a year or longer. We need more than til the end if May. Thete aren’t enough positions out there. And employers see the gap in our employment and don’t give us the time of day. Again….I’m losing all hope. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, what about all the relationships that are being destroyed because of all this stress? I know mine is on the rocks. This is all too much.

aaa right on! GREAT IDEA LOL Why are they so obsessed with helping the Ukraine??? What about the long term unemployed who count on this money
while job hunting? (like my Daughter who is NOT LAZY as so many others are not either) Not enough jobs for good qualified applicants. QUIT giving jobs to
those who cannot speakie the English!!!!!!!!

How sad that men like John Boehner will stand in the way of the passing of the unemployment extension bill that would help the more than two million unemployed workers and their families without benefits, and the means to survive economically, while seeking employment. How can he claim to be for fiscal responsibility when millions of our tax payers dollars are going to fund corporate welfare and foreign aid? When tax payers dollars were spent on bailing out the Banking and Airline industries, amongst other companies, where was their “fiscal responsibility” and budgetary concerns then? Why is helping the average working American worker and families, not as important? I’m looking forward to the 2016 election. You will see these millions of voters show their distain and anger towards these career politicans in the voting booths.

Why are you not willing to take up anything on unemployment. The longer you wait the more money it will cost on back benefits and also the additional 5 months. Don’t you realize that people can’t afford to put gas in their cars to look for jobs because we have no money? Common sense here- please I have written polite emails, nasty emails and neither have been answered. You are cutting us off. I have been listening today on C-SPAN today on the House of Representatives all about National Monuments and the President, but seriously who will be able to afford to go to these places while they are not working. Where are our priorities? Please get a grip. According to the Senate they have come up with a plan PER YOUR REQUEST on the Unemployment benefits extension and a way to pay for them. In the meanwhile, pass this and work together on some ways to create jobs. All you do is ridicule the Senate and the people who are in need. Telling us we are lazy and won’t go back to work. Well pass the darn thing so we can get gas in our cars or train tickets or taxi money to go on interviews. HELLO REMEMBER “Of the People, By the People and For the People” not just for your pay raises that passed with NO OPPOSITION AT ALL! – This is what I sent to John Boehner, but also now I am hearing that the Senate may push this vote out for another week. Does anyone in the House of Rep or the Senate have a clue????? The longer you wait, the less chance it will pass because the dollars keep adding up and forecloses on homes and bankruptcies are getting more common. Please help and GET IT DONE!!!

Those individuals who think like many of the Republican senators, that the unemployed are “lazy”, and “unwilling to work”, are sorely mistaken and delusional. No one in their right mind, would prefer unemployment to working, and making a better wage. For those misinformed with jobs, No one gets rich off of weekly unemployment benefits. The amount you receive can “barely” pay your minimum living expenses. Often it doesn’t, and you end up able to pay some bills, and not others. None of us are dining out on Steak and Lobster every night. This is a misconception and a means to discredit those unfortunate enough to have been laid off from their job. It’s always much easier to point your finger and blame the victim, instead of those in power that are making these laws and decisions. If you recall back, several years ago, it wasn’t the “unemployed” that caused the economic meltdown around the world. This was the directly caused by greedy bankers and CEO’s, who used tax payer’s money, as if it were their own to spend and invest as they chose. It wasn’t the “unemployed” that chose to Bail out the Banking and Airline industries, and the Automobile Industries. In case you’ve forgotten, this was done by our government officials, our so called “public servants”. Furthermore, it wasn’t the “unemployed who gives millions of tax payer’s dollars to foreign Aid, and to finance the rampant corporate welfare in this great country. So to those who are misinformed or delusional, you must re-direct your blame to the correct party. My question to the Republicans, is how do you justify all of the above, yet refuse to help the common man and woman, who has found themselves in a stagnant economy and unable to find employment? Why isn’t there a big drawn out debate about corporate welfare, foreign aid, banking bailouts, as there has now been with helping the unemployed with passing an extension bill? Do we live in two Americas? One for the one percent, and the other for the remaining ninety nine percent? You need to pass the extension bill immediately for the sake of these two plus million families in need. I can assure you that in the 2016 election, we two million voters will Not forget how we were treated .

To be honest I think all of us discouraged Americans should create petitions to impeach Boehner and sign and share each of them. It may seem kind of drastic, but hey if all 2 million long term unemployed make a petition to impeach Boehner and we all sign each of them or at least a majority of them it could force the presidents hand or whoever to take action and really get rid of him. I will sign any and all petitions to have Boehner removed immediately and to pass the EU benefits bill as well. If you think about it it could very well show some promising results. It only takes about 5 minutes to sign up and create your own Petition FYI.

Why do we continue to allow greedy politicians make the laws of the land? Congress and Senate make $174,000 a year while we have 46.6 million living in poverty because the job market. We should vote on everything as a country!
