Reid: Unemployment Extension Could Get Attached to Supplemental

unemployment 047 020614 445x296 Reid: Unemployment Extension Could Get Attached to Supplemental

(Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call File Photo)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday he hopes senators get a chance to add an unemployment extension to the $4.3 billion emergency spending bill.

“Well, there’s a chance,” the Nevada Democrat said when asked about the odds Sen. Jack Reed would be able to attach an unemployment extension to the supplemental.

Reed, D-R.I., said he wants to use the emergency spending bill as a vehicle for the unemployment extension.

“I would hope so, he deserves that,” Reid continued when asked whether Reed would be able to offer his amendment. “He and Heller deserve that.”

Reed and Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., have been advocating for bringing back emergency unemployment compensation benefits since they expired in December and have drafted two five-month long unemployment extension bills, including one that passed the Senate in April.

Reid noted that the earlier efforts haven’t gone anywhere.

The Republican-run House never considered the first measure, arguing it does nothing for job creation.

“We are losing some of our enthusiasm when the Republicans simply, other than Dean Heller, just turn a blind eye to these people who are suffering,” Reid said.

In the meantime, a bill that at one point had been considered a leading contender to carry an unemployment extension — a job training overhaul — has blitzed through both chambers.

Please make this happen, LTU are begging. I want to save my home and my car. I want to feed my daughter and to be a responsible WORKING American again.

My anti-depressants are starting to work! The Lord is a good lord, he is testing LTU. Stay Strong everyone, we can make it through this. I’ve never been a church guy, but this whole LTU experience has brought me closer to God. If it wasn’t for the 6 or more churches that have helped me with everything from gas cards to car payments, I’d be living on the streets right now and my daughter would be living at her friends house.

One of the gracious men from church sent me a text this morning, it read- This is the day that the Lord has made.

    • michael morrison

Stay strong. Yes! God is in control of all thing. He might be there when we want him to be, But he’s always right on time. Understand this: Don’t let yourself be discouraged by the magnitude of this call to submission.

Its now been five weeks since i contacted the WH website about this issue and have yet to receive any reply what so ever…I at the very least expected a letter or an email blaming republicans, but i wasn’t even given the courtesy of that excuse…I’ve just been totally ignored like i’m not even worthy of a response from them..We have the worst leadership in both parties that this country has ever seen, they’ll fund terrorists and illegals, but not help struggling americans who have paid in to the system all their adult lives..Shameful !!!

      • Wayne Heddinger

did you click the box requesting a reply ? you gotta do that when emailing them !

I have contacted the WH as well. One time I received an letter but it was automated. I sent another really blasting what is going on and why we are suffering. I have compassion for the illegals, and others that are hurting. However, I don’t understand how President Obama can allow the GOP to pass tax cuts to the rich, fund other countries, and right here in the United States is a horrific humanitarian crisis of over 4 million unemployed people who have no benefits, income, jobs, and who are losing everything. We got to pray to God to help us all.

    • FedUpInNJ

      Amen!

    • satoshi n.

jazzy, I hope you are not serious but if you are, being weak of mind, and crime is never an answer. Snap benefits are denied for offenders for life too. Some pantries have personal care items. Fake charity like sal army will not help with utility bills but just a few people. If you commit a crime it will live in computer land past the rest of your life for all to see, including future employers which will reject you unless they are looking for the $3,500.00 tax break they get for hiring ex offenders plus((The bonds provide six months of coverage ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, are available at no cost to the job applicant or the employer, and require no paperwork on the part of the employer. See Page 5.)3)((Hiring Ex-Offenders is Good Business:www.pastforwardmd.org
..So redirect your frustration to calling/writing, king Boehner, and vote all out, who bailed out the banks and auto companies, gave $85 billion in tax breaks, in May 2014 to rich companies but turn their back on the people. Human aid is ok but asking for $60,000.00 per person for south of the border people or $3.7 billion is bit rich. How about just give them a plane ticket and bus fare, cut em a $15,000.00 check and send em back, saving a couple of billion.

      • Darrell Peck

did you call the salvation army is a fake charity? In 1977 I was stranded in Pompano Beach and they were the only ones that helped me out by getting me a construction job and a pair of new boots to be able to do the job. Just because they don’t do everything doesn’t mean they don’t do anything.

        • satoshi n.

Ya I did from personal knowledge, has the Salvation Army ever helped anyone I know who asked for their help NOOO. They did however build not for profit Rec Centers from the KROCS, MacDonald’s FORTUNE, large donations, to help with pool tables and ping pong, swimming pools which they charge a nice fee for monthly dues aka as a for profit gym skimming taxes as a not for profit gym.

          Rehab or Money Making Scam

We work along side the men in the rehab program and find out many interesting things about it. Like many of them are not allowed to go any where out side the building unless it is to work in one of the stores. They get no pay out of this as it is part of their treatment. Two of them told me that when they enter the rehab program they are made to get foodstamps. The Salvation Army then takes the food stamps and feeds the benficiaries out dated food that was donated to them. Some times now I still see them with food in christmas packaging in their lunches. Another tells me that in order to get bus passes for all of them so that they can take the bus back and forth between work and the ARC the Salvation Army has them listed as “mentally handicapped” on the form so they all get free bus passes. donations of razors, soap, shampoo, and deoderant are often set aside to be sent to the ARC for them.//Salvation Army Salvation Army Thrift Store A “Christain” Sweat Shop?

I HAVE never ever received anything for them. I use to donate to their kettles never again.

I went to the store in Griffin Georgia at North Expressway where I am a frequent shopper. I was exiting the store and my friend was warming up the car. As I exited, I smelled something burning from the car. I also noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood. I asked my friend to open it which I then discovered a small fire. I ran inside the store and asked them to call 911. I told them my car was on fire. I also asked if they had a fire extinguisher. They looked at me dumbfounded and said no. excerpt from others from sal army

        • satoshi n.

So Darrel why did they, sal army used dead mr krocs’ billions to build a for profit health club? To charge the members monthly dues, why not use the krocs’ billions to buy a Mcdonalds franchise? What possible use for the poor people is a for profit health club// ? It benefits members of the salvation army workforce to have their own health club.

I was watching one of those old preachers on tv. he was saying he wants u to come forth and lay an offering in his hand inside an envelop to ONNITT IT of $100 , $500, $1000. to sew your seed to the church. So the people placed envelops in his hand and got like a 1 second onitting.

Jazzy I am also drawing closer to God realizing that without him we are as dust in the wind. This has experience has truly tried my faith, and there has been times I wanted to give up. But somehow through all the pain I am still here. I praise God for my friends, family who have helped with some of my bills, gas, food. I praise God for my landlord is suffering financial problems as well, who is trying to work with me. We need this extension now. So much is at risk and I and others do not need to be on the streets.

Democrats are making every effort to help the long term unemployed.

Republicans are are detrimental to the well being of the middle and working classes.

The Republican party has nothing to offer the American people but austerity and hardship.

Republicans are America’s greatest threat, foreign or domestic.

    • neighbor222

Democrats aren’t pushing for retro. That’s a fact. Not going near it. For as much as I loathe Republicans, 1.3 million who lost their benefits in Dec. are going to have to figure out how to make up 6 lost months of bills with an approximate 50% of what they were earning when they were working. That’s improbable, if not impossible. And you can thank the Dems for that one.

      • ArmedLiberal

The only reason there is not extension deal retro payments or otherwise is because of Republican obstruction.

        • Debzsoonerz

Dude, you are crazy as a bed bug. Yu blame the Republicans because assholes like you don’t educate yourselves on what the truth is !!!

that would be John Boehner…not democrats…the senate passed the bill with retro and Boehner won’t allow a vote !

        • electricjack

          • Wayne Heddinger

I dare you to go find one of them…google the bills…you won’t find any to be a jobs bills…..all of them are bullshit with repeal obamacare, keystone or anti-women………none include any real jobs. they say repealing obamacare creates jobs….it’s a crock…just like phony keystone jobs…..typical republican bullshit !

          • Debzsoonerz

Maybe if you knew what you were talking about, you could see what is really taking place in this country, Ried Pelosi- galore and Mr. Cocaine O BOMB A, are driving this country into socialism like you’ve never seem before. And O BOMB A IS KEEPING HIS WORD TO ALL OF YOU, YOU REMEMBER I WANT TO SPREAD THE WEALTH, AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HE’S . HE’S TAKING YOUR UE AND GIVING T TO ALL THE LITTLE WET BACKS CROSSING THE BORDER,SO HUN YOU CAN KISS RETRO GOODBYE !!! And I wouldn’t count on UE anytime soon !!!

            TROLL !

  • Chad Hatten houston

Look or convicted child molester wayne to shop up here with the standard cut and paste post. I think they will pass one last extension, with no retroactive benefits. It is good to exclude retro benefits, and give five additional months going forward.

    • Wayne Heddinger

      TROLL !

    • Debzsoonerz

Chad the law expired in Dec. they are not going to give you that money !! They don’t have too. And your not going to receive five extra months, because they don’t owe that to you either !!! Why don’t you just except that !!! If you are still able to get UE if and when that happens and I don’t even think that is going to happen because of the sharp drop in UE, but there will be no retro !!) sad but true ! I could use retro too but I’ve giving up on that after reading the laws and the way the senate won’t bing a vote on anything the Republicans want , so Boehner is just refusing to bring a vote on UE !!!

I live in Nevada. That would be the state with the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the nation. Opportunities are sparse and the jobs that are out there usually have 100-200+ applicants. 4.5 years service, gulf war vet, followed by 25 consecutive years employed and paying taxes, including UI, And I’ll be paying into UI again. My family needs help now. Nobody is looking for your help though Jack. Keep your pinched pennies to yourself. Help from the country that I served and helped build would be much more appropriate and absolutely more appreciated.

Well, we will see…Hopefully this time it will happen. LTU could use the relief, yesterday. Luckily my husband just got a job, not getting paid what we are use to, but it is job. Applied for food stamps last week and utility company discounts. I never thought this would happen to me or my family. I have work my whole life, paid taxes and have only collected UI, one other time in my 40+ years of working, and I am called a lazy loser who wants to live off the government. Excuse me…I, we, (Americans) pay your salary, we are your boss, you need to listen to the people, Boehner, get real, or get out!

I do know what goes around, comes around and Boehner will one day have to answer for his calloused, cold and calculating decisions, that have ruined, destoryed and shatter people’s lives, while billions are given away daily for frivilous programs, grants, illegals, tax breaks for the rich, and foreign aid. Then we (LTU) are

used as his policitcal pawns for his elitest agenda, I am stymied, by this behavior and how it has been allowed. This America, “we the people, for the people” what has happened? No values, morals, no conscience, this country is going to hell in a hand basket, 2008 recession was only a preview of what is to come. Hold on we are in for a ride.

Our so called “public servants” are no more than thugs in three piece suits .We treat the poor and disadvantaged like an incurable disease Our so called “public servants”, now only “serve” themselves , or big corporations, and special interest groups with deep pockets. Since late last December, there have been three million unemployed families without an extension of unemployment benefits, .because Senator John Boehner, and his republican cronies, have refused to pass the bill in the senate. They were more interested in fighting to get the Koch Brother’s oil pipeline passed at all cost. Even if it meant at the cost of the poor and needy. Our country has recently approved billions of dollars for the Ukraine, and billions more on the defense of Europe. We’re asked to send our sons & daughters off to war, but not take care of their unemployed families back here at home. There are now three million unemployed families in financial ruin, many living on the streets, because of the party politics that are going on in Washington.

      • There Is No Substitute

You’re correct. Automation and or Artificial Intelligence is just in the beginning stages of completely restructuring our economy. The primary problem with constantly improving efficiency is you eventually eliminate the majority of the workforce as population continues to grow. Over the last couple decades we’ve seen vast reductions in manufacturing due to automation and relocation overseas to reduce labor costs. The United States has lost over 70,000 factories since the year 2000. The next phase is white collar jobs that will be replaced by artificial intelligence. That concept was a product of science fiction a few decades ago. Today voice recognition software is almost perfected and ready to evolve into the white collar employment force. Artificial Intelligence doesn’t get sick, doesn’t take vacation, doesn’t require health care, requires little maintenance and small investment. White collar workers aren’t ready for this transformation and It will be a rude awakening. Have a great day.

  • Todaysfate

Here is the fact no one wants to discuss. What we are dealing with is something that we as a society or a species have never had to deal with before. And that is this … the effect of overpopulation. Plain and simple. There is no denial at this point. The way things worked in the past is that all the riches and wealth would accumulate at the top, but the people at the top would grow old and die. They don’t take money with them … it would be re-distributed to the masses one way or another. A perpetual cycle.

People are living longer now. The wealth is sitting at the top. This system worked well before, when “most” people were living well enough, at least with meager jobs, able to keep food on the table and gas in the car. When every 30 years or so there would be a major ground war where hundreds of thousands would die. That doesn’t happen anymore. But now that there are just TO MANY people the system is falling apart. …

Result. They DONT WANT to help this segment of people who are close to being out on the streets or they already would have. Someone at the VERY top of the human chain wants to get RID of people one way or another. Maybe the bird flu didn’t spread like it was supposed to a few years back. I don’t know. I don’t normally think conspiracy theories but the fact of the matter is about as obvious as the sky is blue when you see the attitude coming from some of these people. They simply think the unemployed are dead weight and that in the end no one will miss them when they are gone. It’s like they are testing the waters to see if 5 million people can be written off without the rest of the population giving a crap. It’s like a survival of the fittest attitude.

It’s not that they don’t care. It’s that they know that in order for the other 90% to survive, 10% have to go. And by go I mean GONE. Too many fish in the tank, they start dying. Too many animals in the wild. That’s why there is a hunting season. So when humanity reaches a certain point, it’s either take some of them out or let them destroy themselves. They know full well that in order for there to be enough money for social security in about 30 years, they need a good chunk of those people to never make to that age. This is a classic scenario of most science fiction. Technology undoing civilization. I’ll try to let you all know if men in black come to take me away now.

Without retro the bill is useless to the 4 million who have been left out in the cold for almost 7 months while we watched everything we worked years for either be sold or thrown into repossession. At this point our credit ratings are so deep in the toilet no decent company will even consider hiring us even if there was a decent job available! Thanks Congress! Harry Reid needs to shut the f up and get a bill to the floor WITH RETRO- just like he should have done in JANUARY before he neglected to add it to the budget at the end of the year! Boehner needs to shut up and “allow” a vote before the Republicans that are amongst the 4 million being screwed throw the Republicans out of the House in November! Its beyond shameful that it took this long to help so many who consistently have PAID SO MUCH. SHAME ON ALL THESE SCUM POLITICIANS. We’ve heard this and been “hopeful” before right before many of their “recesses”… we’ll see. …. a bill without retro is as useless as Congress and just as sincere.

    http://blogs.rollcall.com/wgdb/reed-add-unemployment-extension-to-emergency-spending-bill/?dcz=

    *******************************************************************************

Another slight of hand government trick to fool the people!!!

printed from first article… link is above…

Congress should add an unemployment extension to President Barack Obama’s $4.3 billion proposed emergency spending bill, Sen. Jack Reed said Wednesday.

“There is an emergency supplemental coming down the pike that seeks to deal
with immediate threats like wildfires and the humanitarian situation on our border,” Reed said in a statement. “Helping Americans who’ve been hit hardest by the recession is an urgent priority and restoring UI should be part of that conversation and part of that supplemental package. I am going to work with my colleagues to try to find a way to get this done and get people the help they need.”

What Boehner has to say about the humanitarian situation:

“We’re not giving the president a blank check,” said Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, as dispute over how to deal with tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors arriving at the southern border mounted on Capitol Hill. “This is a problem of the president’s own making.”

Well I hate to say this but it is !!! O BOMB A HAS NO BALLS, And when a problem comes up he has no clue how to fix it !! He doesn’t really want to allow UE because with the drop in Unemployment it makes him look like he’s something good for the country !!! He’s wrong they don’t count the people that drop of the rolls or the people that have just given up on trying to find work !!! Truth be told no one in DC wants to help any of us !!

  • TJC

God Will fix it all in the end John Boehner and the GOP will have to answer to god one day and when god ask them did you help the poor what will they say it was too hard to do. Off to hell

    • Debzsoonerz

Asshole leave God out of it ! Only a MORON would say something like that !! And I’ve been reading you post for a while !!!$ try actually going out and looking for a job instead of sitting on your ass day after day bitching about the Republicans !! No doubt the term lazy applies to you !!!!

First of all that “emergency” spending bill has no chance of passing. So dims just add whatever other wasteful spending you want. The clamps on spending for the skinny Marxist are on tight. Nov 2012 seems so long ago. Ahhh memories.

Sen. Reed is on right track. He must invite “LTU” from all walks of life to understand the mitigating and chronic failure of American economic system. There are vested interests worldwide who would rather kill or poison their mother than let the American economic system turn its corner. This is the new world disorder NOT strategic partnership and its the Senate and HOUSE accountability to keep the economic system from gravitating to senseless turmoil.

  • George

Just had my fifth interview in a year today. The guy was basically laughing at the fact that I have been out of work so long. My job references are unreliable now, my resume is a joke, and these Republican business owners seem to take joy in the fact that I’ve been out of work so long. This country has completely changed since Obama became president. It’s like a Steven King horror novel. What happened to America??

  • satoshi n.

So a good oil refinery would cost $2.5 BILLION IN LAMAU. In America or Canada say $7 billion. The Keystone pipeline xl cost $8 billion. Amerika spends $55 billion in give away foreign aid that I know for sure/ likely more. So if Keystone is willing to puke up $8 billion for a not needed pipeline, how bout the us government reduce foreign aid by $8 billion throw in $ 8 billion , Keystone throw in $8 billion and build a $16 B., refinery on the us Canadian border. Boehner there is your jobs program.// oh and Boehner quit punishing the unemployed over oil, bunk up with madeoff on your insider trading, Martha would approve.

This has been one of the worse ever. I am apart of the 1st 1.8 million from December. I’ve watched and heard millions of people losing their homes and being evicted. I too was and still am on the verge of eviction. I hope this does come through, it would be nice to have it retro. It would give me a chance to get back on my feet. Either way, I know everything will be fine. For those new to the journey, I have created some steps to help you through if you’re caught in the between of these things Lifefighters.com I think I’ve mastered the art of being without

  • Hearin in da Boro of NYC

I’m happy to say after 52 weeks of looking, my unemployed days are over. (at least for now.) Over two thousand hours of searching internet ads. Hundreds of responses to ads with resume. Dozens of applications. A hand full of responses back. The last response after three interviews has paid off in NYC. Sadly I must say, 26 weeks were with unemployment benis. 26 weeks without. I thinks it’s fair to say either 150 pounds of earthworms have more brains than the hundreds of human bodies in Congress or we should move our Capitol to Hollywood because from this last experience and the way things look today, either Congress are all on the top of the list for Emmys and other entertainment awards or they are just plain out S T U P I D !!! The tears, sobs, grandstanding, podium slapping and looking foolish when saying unemployment must end, jobs must start followed by NO ACTION… I’m not speaking of me or some other unemployed person struggling. I’m talking about Congress on TV, Radio, in the press or when you speak with them or their office staff . Congress is much more convincing than OJ Simpson. Unemployed, don’t give up. Keep pushing forward and DO NOT RELY ON THE GROUP OF PARISITES IN DC. They exist to suck the life blood out of our country, that is why the Mexican border is open. Like any “good” vampire they new new feeding opportunities. Many of us are waking up and recognize the truth of their efforts. Deny Democrats. Revoke Republicans. Look for and support the Man or Woman with a track record in buisness and agree to step in for a term or or two and step back to their private lives. Our fine Country is Red, White and Blue. Colors that don’t run and stand for the truth of One Nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for ALL. (Citizens including those to be born having moving hands, feet, beating heart, functioning brain, nervous system and SOUL)

    • Chad Hatten houston

      glad you landed a job

  • Eirinne Claire

I am begging on behalf of my family and the other struggling American’s out there for Congress and the Senate to pass the unemployment extension. I worked straight through the recession down turn and was laid off in September of last year. 13 years of employment at the same company and I worked hard. I never imagined that finding a job would be so hard. I will scrub toilets at this point. I just want to work. I have submitted hundreds of resumes and am about to lose everything. I am single mother with two beautiful girls who look up at me for support. I am losing faith in this country. I was brought up to believe that hard work and dedication would bring success and financial security. I thought god forbid if I was ever in need after all the taxes I have paid into social security and and unemployment that I would be helped in turn. I was so wrong and it is devastating to me as I am sure it is for others.

PLEASE PASS EUC ……….TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR THE FAMILIES AND THE CHILDREN OF THOSE FAMILIES WHO DEPEND ON THEM.

I’m sorry to say that people are just wasting their time hoping our subverted congress cares about the people anymore. This has been a wake up call for me and It’s blatantly obvious that our politicians serve foreign interests and NOT the American people. These sellouts have authorized more than enough $$$ for foreign countries and ILLEGAL immigrants (Obama just requested 4.7Billion), but they refused to help out of work taxpayers. What’s transpiring in this country now isn’t incompetence, it’s not party politics, it’s TREASON plain and simple.

Here we find a brief overview of the Obama regime’s lies about the 2013 sequester: http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/341553/obama-caught-lying-about-sequester-deroy-murdock

  • Chad Hatten houston

also praying for you jazzy. 5 months forward extension is not much help. hope things turn around so you get hired at a living wage

  • biggin

it will be a miracle if these congress a-holes get anything passed before the August recess it is the biggest crock of BS I have ever seen

  • darrell_b8

Wonder if Reid will include the recent ‘undocumented minors’ as eligible for extended unemployment….until they are old enuf to vote??

  • Kat Saved

Despite Obama’s apocalyptic prophecies regarding the 2013 sequester, $700,000 was still wasted on a musical about man-made global-warming.

  • Albert Leviation

It is immoral and unjust to further condemn the innocent children of these united states to the hock of hostile foreign governments.

  • BOB

if not i go bankrupt…its that bad we need help not 300 illegals

  • Frank

The report I heard yesterday said all retail sales are down except for high end stores. This tells me that the average consumer is not buying. We keep hearing news that the economy is getting better and there is now no need for an unemployment extension. I must be living in the wrong state because if my job searches are any indication, it is actually getting worse in my state of NJ. How about some help before are representatives take a summer break. Seems like they get a vacation every three weeks. Give me a job like that!
