Unemployment Extension Petition Gets Manchin’s Push

Keeping the unemployment insurance extension issue alive, Sen. Joe Manchin III is asking supporters to sign on to a petition urging the House to act. The West Virginia Democrat doesn’t agree with his party on everything, but an email pitch sent Tuesday morning demonstrates considerable Democratic unity on reviving extended unemployment insurance benefits.

The Senate passed its version of the jobless benefits measure with 59 “yes” votes on April 7.

“Extending unemployment insurance makes economic sense, but it’s also just the right thing to do. Our hardworking neighbors paid into the system when they had a job, so it’s only fair that they should benefit from those funds when they’re down on their luck,” Manchin wrote in an email to supporters. “That’s why I’m asking you to join my colleagues and me in calling on the House to pass an extension of unemployment insurance.”

The email blast links to a petition — without an immediate fundraising ask — from 11 Senate Democrats, a trio of House members and three candidates, including Alison Lundergan Grimes in the Kentucky Senate race.

The senators on the pitch come from across the Democratic spectrum.

“It has been months since unemployment insurance was cut off for millions of job-seekers. Since then, Democrats and Republicans in the Senate have reached a bipartisan deal to extend this critical lifeline,” the signatories wrote. “It’s time for Republicans in the House to stop stonewalling and do the same!”

There’s no expectation that the Senate-passed agreement — which would retroactively extend the benefits that ran out just before the end of last year for five additional months — will be called up for a vote in the House. In a Roll Call opinion piece this week, GOP Reps. Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania and Mark Meadows of North Carolina pushed for tying the extended benefits to other legislation, including language approving of the Keystone XL oil pipeline project.

Manchin’s mailing list has been busy of late. In another recent pitch, he called for bipartisanship and praised the efforts of the group No Labels. Manchin is an honorary co-chairman of that group, along with former presidential hopeful, ambassador and ex-Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.

“I truly believe the best way forward for West Virginia and our country is for Democrats and Republicans to put aside our political parties and work together to do what’s best for all of us,” Manchin wrote. “If those are values you’re fighting for, too, click here to call on Congress to stop bickering and get to work.”

The Keystone pipeline only creates 35-50 jobs, and runs right through Lakota lands. The EUC bill as-is creates over 200,000 jobs and doesn’t violate Native American rights. The EUC bill has job creation built-in. Boehner needs to stop throwing tantrums at the expense and well-being of nearly 3 million Americans and their families, including 270,000 veterans–all of whom he’s crapping on.

    • MrConservative

Boehner need to have all his accounts frozen.. live off unemployment for a month than have it taken away for at least 6 months.. lets see how he likes not being able to support his family and pay his bills..

      • Shizue Leigh Hicks

Also, let’s hope the Federal Election Committee does some serious digging into Boehner’s campaign financing. They were very curious in September 2013 and rightly so.

This Speaker of the House has a base salary of $223,500 but managed to take home over $900,000 in 2013. John Boehner, a financial wizard? The guy is known for never saying “no” to any handout, no matter how small or large, and no matter the source.

        • mastador1

Don’t limit it to Boehner, though God knows I have no love for him. Too many politicians have become multi millionaires while supposedly serving we the people, so don’t forget Reid, Pelosi and Feinstein and the rest in your desired investigations. This feces crosses party lines.

          • Shizue Leigh Hicks

            True.

  • MarineOutOfWork

Every week thousands of Americans lose their lifeline…I worked 35 years and was laid off in August 2013 and got 18 weeks of unemployment in Ga. With two kids and a morgage my lights and water will be off this week. If not for me, do this for the many that is cut off every week while looking for work. Marine Corps, College Degree, and one interview in 6 months. Do it because it’s the right thing to do. Thank you and may God Bless all of you.

    • Shizue Leigh Hicks

God bless you, and please don’t give up! Maybe this is the week they’ll all stop playing games on Capitol Hill and save some homes and lives.

      • PatriotVirginian1

        Impossible…
Both the Senate and House are on vacation until April 28th…
Best paying job in the free world.

        • Bob Polen

fire them now… no job to come back too

          • redwood1488

Yeah, let them see how it feels to be unemployed!

        • jack d

They are clearly showing us that this is not the free world and its not even the pay that makes them rich its the “endorsements” (((((bribe))))) they receive for doing such a “good” job for the businesses that dont even support America but get to sell here and now get TAX BREAKS???? Unreal

  • Mark Douglas

I’ve signed every petition and most importantly you better believe I will be voting in every election possible until the Republicans raise enough money to shut out Armed Services veterans from the ballot .This is more than Personal with me; it’s pretty difficult to argue that there are Veterans, even a little older ones, like myself, Who Don’t want to work. That doesn’t make much sense for any Citizen who takes pride in themselves, but is especially true of us Veterans. I am now a homeless veteran as of April 2014. The only bright spot is that solely because I am a Veteran; Now, I have been accepted in another Federal program for homeless vets. (Where is the Taxpayer savings in other programs, but Thank God for Patriotism, too bad you have to be homeless and suffering to qualify?) But until the paperwork clears I will spend my second night at a local rescue mission. And I will never forget. Thank you Congress and Happy Easter 2014.

I’m sorry, Mark, but there are plenty who are no longer looking.

      • Diana Taylor

Perhaps there are a few lazy apples in the bunch as with
most programs, unfortunately, there will always be opportunists, However, the large majority are hardworking, displaced Americans and they should not be penalized for the few bad ones! That’s like saying when a Congressmen disgraces his office, we should hold all of Congress responsible, It’s simply ignorant! Further, I would like to know who elected you Judge and Jury? What gives you the right to Judge? I agree that 99 weeks is excessive and there should be limits imposed, that said, to hold people hostage who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own is mean and heartless!! Oh and by the way, the job market is pathetic at the moment and there are just not enough jobs to go around, period!!

        • Layla

There are states like Texas, Idaho, Louisiana that are experiencing hiring booms. There jobs markets there are exploding.

          • JustinBailey

Contracts are exploding. I live in Austin, TX and for the past 3 years I’ve been unemployed while performing contract work just to survive. Oh but everybody wants to hire on a contract basis so that they can dispose of workers around the time a raise is due or a product is released. I’ve had contract opportunities turn into full time positions turn into layoffs so many times now that I stopped counting. More jobs doesn’t necessarily mean permanent positions.

          • BC Shelby

…well, if I had about 8,000$ in my account to simply pull up stakes and move I would. That is about what it would take to move, secure a place to live, pay for storage (and later retrieval) of my belongings here, as well as cover rent and expenses (like food, transportation, phone, internet etc) for at least five to six months I would.

But you see, like many here, I’m broke and not about to walk nearly a thousand miles or so on the “possibility” that I might have a better chance elsewhere than here where I already have a network of contacts, support groups, and services which are assisting me.

          • cammy

layla give it a rest. your not making people feel better

          • redwood1488

The jobs that are here in Texas are minimum wage jobs. Texas is doing okay but here in Houston, TX we are being flooded with people from out of state looking for work. 3 of my co-workers are from California.

      • Mark Douglas

To give up is unpatriotic as is gets. To give up is to die. When I was a child I heard stories about an old Eskimo or Asian custom where old people and those who felt helpless to contribute would sail off on piece of ice and disappear, commit suicide and I remember thinking how Glad I was to be American where we don’t discard people. Now adays I think either I was naive or this is what we’ve come to in this Country the Have and have nots and the Haves are so glad it’s not them that they can’t focus on the fact that one day, before they know it; it may just be them and who will fight for them? Not the most Greedy of all. I don’t feel bad for me; I feel bad for you.

        • Layla

Nobody should give up. But I’m telling you, there are jobs out there, if you’re willing to relocate. I don’t want you to give up, I don’t want anyone to give up. My family are dealing with this, too.

          • BC Shelby

…many if not most of us do not have the resources to relocate on the possibility of maybe finding work somewhere else. The Dakotas? Well if you drive (as public transit there is a joke) and are able bodied enough to perform heavy construction work (which many of my age are not), yeah there’s a few jobs there.

It takes money my dear, money none of us have anymore. Try to book a hotel room with a credit card that has been cancelled. Try to travel a thousand or more miles with no gas in the car (if you still have a car) or buy a bus ticket with no money left in the wallet. Try to secure an a apartment or even a room in a rooming house these days with no job, no income, no money for deposits or even application fees.

When you can answer how to do that, we may listen.

          • Will Randolph

But we need money to move. As for me I have nothing, zip zero money. If I am evicted from my apt, I have no way nor no where to move my stuff. It will be gone. Yes move if you are able, however I am waiting on money to do something.

          • Mark Douglas

Thank you for your comment Layla. We are having the kind of discussion you could only dream of your Congress having. Point in fact; House Speaker Boehner’s big contribution to Democracy is to prevent a vote or discussion or debate. The party of No prevails not on ideas but helping the rich get richer at the middle classes expense. (what’s left of it!-which is why I say if your not feeling the pinch today, you may tomorrow, you mentioned your family members–and who will stand for you. Not the very rich. Do you know we still have Slavery in this Country. People working for a place to stay or for some meager food leftovers of the rich. Places like horse farms where they race horses and make millions. Do you think they care about me or you or your out of work family member or raising the minimum wage or equal pay; they don’t care if their trainers sleep in the barn? Be realistic; and always remember unless you’re rich; You’re probably just a couple paychecks from having to RE-Locate. lol Two things I know all about relocation and retraining. For this homeless veterans program I have to relocate from Pennsylvania to a shelter in Maryland, while the paperwork gets completed and on to the program in West Virginia; only hopefully to wind up with a job back in Pennsylvania. How’s that for relocation.
As for retraining; in 2008; I saw the handwriting on the wall and in my late 40′s went back to school for Medical Assistant; you see those cute commercials on TV-change your Career in less than a year, I was actually in one, And not that the certificate wasn’t good but esp. as an older student I also went on to College to get an Associates degree. Honor roll, one semester left. need five electives because I have all my required courses; but when I lost my job I got my education interrupted. So when Congress throws out Ideas like retraining, etc. they are bluffing and blowing smoke. I would love to get extended unemployment if I could finish my courses. while some would be getting certificates; I would be finishing my Associates. Bear in mind that unemployment is only a small portion of your past what your salary was. The whole goal is to get back to work. not collect a portion of what you could be getting. That’s Another Big Lie.
Finally we need to consider who is most impacted the most by long-term unemployment: Minorities have a much higher rate not because they are lazier or give up at a higher rate; but because they are always last hired and first fired. Nowadays you have an older workforce some of whom may not want to be retrained or relocate but because they are Americans and are resilient, will do what they have to in order to survive. Including work for less money, until we can revolt against the policies that create the suffering or as long as there are not too too many havenots the status quo can keep the peace. But it is a fine line they are treading effecting some many millions at once. And the very last thing I will say unless someone wants to follow me to my blog that I created as I wrote a book about the last year for me called “A Modern Day Lynching” by Mark Douglas (yet to be published).but hey I’m resilient and patriotic and I will bounce back or die trying. The Sad thing is that I know for a fact that the GOP wants nothing more than for me to just sail off and die like that old Asian or Eskimo Custom. But like the Rev. Al Sharpton, I’m not gonna shut up or die.But continue to Speak Truth to Power and looking for my time to rise. But the last piece of the puzzle is the low-wage jobs that have replaced the former factory and semi-skilled labor jobs that have disappeared. Is it me or does nearly every one I know who didn’t go to college wearing a fast-food uniform and does some of my out-of work college educated friends seeking a fast-food uniform. This is part of the problem and just so Congress knows no one in their right mind wants to live off part of a part time check. Remember it is not a replacement , but a part of your old salary. I can’t explain it any more or any better although I know I left something out. And yes; I do have a Blog on wordpress .com and i did write and am trying to get published my book. I had a meeting today

      • Peter L Tomaino

I have been looking for two years and my wife for 9 months
        We are now homeless.
Mark , I am sorry to read , but at least you have a program can help you , we are not vets and there are no programs help us.

      • jack d

Layla you tried saying the same thing in another discussion and again I will say how do you move with no money? How do you relocate with no income people will not rent you a place to live and you even suggested leaving your family behind you do not live in the real world and ARE NOT in the same category there is 1 job to every 3 by the national labor boards statistics so you are telling me you know better than they do? Wake up….. As for who is to blame we are all forgetting the worst criminal in all of this injustice it was bush who drove the economy into a black hole and then had the nerve to bail out banks without consequences just so they can charge us interest on the financial backing they received from our government which is paid with tax money

  • Proud American

    Shame on you house senate!

  • Proud American

“It’s about the people”…..Or do you think that in the other life you’ll take treasure of this world …what a joke.

  • Layla

Congress is failing the American people. Where are the jobs you promised? Welfare is going up faster than the employment figures in this country. We are losing this battle.

    • Proud American

This is why most republicans are mad and there Is so much conflict between the too parties. This is just one example. Unemployment extension bill won’t pass either. Stay involve in what’s going on don’t depend on the news or articles for updates. Go straight to the source c-span.org and watch it live on what’s going because the news and articles don’t post everything.

      1. The knew health reform “Obama care” there trying to take it out by 2015.
Why? Because they know that knew health reform is meant to help the American people take better care of them selfs by eating more natural foods. I blame the FDA administration for allowing the food industry to be controlled “By you know who”
That’s right the same ones that are controlling the game in the “house” the ones that don’t care about you and me. That’s why the hospitals are full of sick people
And guess who invest in all these hospitals “investors”

There will be a lot of changes soon
Wait to they start closing all the food industries you’ll be surprise that nothing in a grocery store is worth buying unless you grow it your self.

Stay away from and don’t buy anything that is sweet!

    • Bob Polen

I can not believe that congress has sat and dragged this vote
out like they have no cares to answer too the public .. well, I
tell u , I am 1 !!! of many, that will vote them out next
election for the delay in approving this much needed ui extention
for familys to have living expenses , housing and food…LOOK
what they will cause next……forclosures and bankruptcys are
coming soon, they are a worthless Congress SO. fire them asap..

    • jack d

Weren’t you just saying that there are jobs out there you just have to move to get them and blah blah blah? Ok now you are a bi polar princess in that fairy tale land I like this side of your thinking better

    • erick

Why are the upper income job creators not creating jobs. Well actually they are overseas. That is where they invest their surplus income.

  • SML

In the past the US has made sanctions against countries for crimes against it’s people. The US government’s heart bleeds for the poor people of the Ukraine. Billions for the Ukraine and calls to Putin. How about the same concern for the American unemployed? I am a Democrat, but I do wonder where are the calls to Congress from the White House applying the pressure which is needed to resolve this. Where are the public announcements from the President demanding an immediate bipartisan conclusion? I know everyone is tired of signing petitions and making calls, but if we let it fade the heartless “let them eat cake” element will win. Neglect is a serious crime against the people.

    • Wafiullah Wahidi

The president mentioned Unemployment Extension in passing during his State of the Union and a couple of tweets here and there. The President like the rest of Congress (both Dems and GOP) do not want the extension to pass. not yet at least.

Its clear as black and white, The Democrats need this issue alive for as long as possible to keep the public angry at the GOP. Watch, come September and October we are going to see a lot of ads bashing the republicans for their lack of sympathy for the unemployed.

For the White House, Senate and the House, 3 million Americans is just not big enough for them to be really concerned with it. Its a political game for them.

What sad is that we elected the President because he promised us no more of the partisan bickering and he turned out to be the worst of them all. So much for Hope and Change. Now lets see if we can at least “move forward”

      • BC Shelby

…I’m with you there. his “big words” during the SOTU speech were meaningless. This has gone beyond being sick to a totally inhumane and cruel political game of “one-upsmanship” by both sides of the congressional aisle as well as the White House. Four stinking months this has dragged on and on while in the past, when the national U3 rate was lower than it is now, there was no debate or discussion. Meanwhile other bills were quickly ushered through from farm subsidies to Ukrainian aid.

Becoming very weary of playing the part of a political football that is continually being kicked around back and forth inside the Beltway.

I’ve been continuing my work search, as discouraging as it has become, rejection after rejection, and continue to report to our state’s UI office in hopes of what I now feel will be a miracle happening.

Four stinking months and in that time our “elected officials” have taken four vacations and every time they get back, they procrastinate worse than a kid who doesn’t want to do his homework by voting on it in the last minute before taking yet another one week or two off. Were these people in the private sector they all would have been sacked long ago,

  • Mr. Miller

The current POTUS caused the partisanship in Congress, when he started using the terms, “US” and “THEM” in his first term during the first electoral cycle. Not sure how this would work, but if you removed the party from the POTUS upon running and left it completely up to the the people to make a decision based on the person running, we would have a better running Government and a POTUS that was a better representative of the people, since that office is suppose to be representative of ALL US citizens, not just “US” or “THEM”……

  • David Flannagan

All the “Sky is falling!” Chicken Little Dems are just wasting their breath. The issue is long dead as far as the House Republicans are concerned. It died back in Dec. 2013.
It’s time to stop this ongoing gravy train to joblessness. Paying “couch potatoes” to sit around is not a work incentive. Time to talk about retraining these people for the new work force. Not give them more years of Federal money for what has always been the States problem. It is amazing what the Dems will try to do for a few more votes.

    • MarineOutOfWork

      ??

      • David Flannagan

Is that how you articulate a question or reply? You claim to be a Marine. I thought they were smarter than that. Or because you are a Marine out of work ,you have more need or entitlement for this unemployment extension. I don’t get it.

        • Penny Tinklenberg

you disgusting PIG. Hows that for a reply?

          • Michelle

Penny its okay. David is just miserable with his life. That’s why he is on here taking it out on everyone. If he had a life he’d be doing something else besides sitting on here and attacking people. Usually people like him have to come into forums like this and attack people because they are hidden by a computer, but in real life hes a coward.

        • Penny Tinklenberg

Have you ever thought of getting some help? Your a real weirdo, you prob work for the gov. and are afraid your going to get one of your freebies cut.

          • David Flannagan

            Penny
I’m not on the government payroll. I’m retired and living on a comfortable pension. I’m also getting taxed to death to pay for “couch potatoes” like you. Show a little nanitiative

          • DaveFlanniganSucksBalls

David Flannagan, your blind stupidity is impressive. I have held very good jobs in three different states in the past four years, all resulted in my entire team getting laid off, due to economic woes. It is not free to move to a different state, in fact it averages $5-$10,000 (moving costs, car registration, security deposits, etc..). Not to mention the fact that no reputable place will rent a place to someone who just moved into the state and has no job yet.

Your thought process is humorously irrational. Where do you think unemployment benefits come from, they come from the earlier paychecks of those people that are asking. You cannot qualify to receive unemployment if you haven’t been employed, and paid into the program.

There are no “freebies”, and you sir are the (retired) “couch potato”. Your judgments make you look like a fool, and I’m sure that’s what most people think who have this discussion with you. I wish your family the best of luck, with keeping their jobs, and with dealing with you!

          • jack d

companies that HIRE people pay for unemployment and you think your pension was paid for by who? You? No I hate to inform you but if you are retired and on a pension it is because the government gave you company tax break incentives to open those pensions but you wouldn’t know about that would ya smarty so actually you are getting a government hand out more so than the unemployment benefits because you are getting a comfortable pension

          • Penny Tinklenberg

Hey Idiot y r u talking so much sh*t? I am 53 and work construction. Have raised 3 kids single handed without child support or any assistance. Worked all my life have paid for my school cloths since I was 10. Have worked 3 jobs at 1 time so my kids didn’t have to grow up on welfare. I go back to work in may I also will have a pension. The anger comes from you assuming what other peoples lives are about. Think real hard about the help you have gotten thru life, or if you haven’t then be thankful you’ve had it better than most. You must have a wonderful life that you r on this page, judging all of these people. Hell has a place for people like you.

          • Penny Tinklenberg

Figures you have no reply to my post loser

          • Truthe

No, you are not retired. You are not living comfortably. You are not getting texed to death. There are no couch potatoes. You do not know the meaning of initiative, or have anyway of verifying what anyone has done. No one said there was not jobs out there. Most people do not have the means to relocate. Finding a job does not come before being able to live in a house. You are wrong. No one needs to focus anger, you push ill will towards others for no reason. Being picky has nothing to do with getting a job. Walmart is not close by. Self dignity has nothing to do with having a job. No one is leaning on anyone or expecting anyone to save the day. You are wrong again. Move along.

          • John

You have no facts. You are wrong. DF does not exist. self dignity does not exits. I can’t speak about it. I t does not eixist. why am I speaking..no..wait…I am writing…No ..wait..i am typing..uh, oh…does not compute.I am wrong again. I must move along.

          • Mark

Yes, you are wrong again. You are finally correct

        • Michelle

Wow…that’s how you talk to our our men and women who serve our country? Sad to think these people put their lives on the line for you so you can have the freedoms that you have. You pass judgement on the guy and you have no clue who he is! You act all smart and tough because your beind a computer screen. Have some respect for people.

          • David Flannagan

            ??

          • Michelle

David, is that how you articulate a question or a reply? Those were your exact words to MarineOutOfWork when he did the whole, “??” and you then went on to imply he was stupid, but here you are doing it….

    • Icare

Well Bozo… if you are so smart, how do you expect those that need the training to live without money for food, shelter, childcare, gas, medical, etc… and where is the money for the training going to come from and who is going to pay for it??? YOU???

And as for Federal Money… that’s the peoples money that the feds have from our hard earned tax dollars that flows out of The Peoples country to foreign countries by the billions!!!

      • David Flannagan

        Hi
There are safety nets in place for the chronic unemployable people. Such as food stamps ,housing vouchers, medicare, public schools, public transportation. Your lifestyle is going to change Icare! That is the key word here, CHANGE! You need to cut the cord of government dependency and learn to be more self reliant. As far as your need for free childcare, No one held a gun to your head and forced you to get pregnant over and over.
The burdens you speak of are nothing more than your poor life choices. You now want me and the rest of the taxpayers to pay your way. We can’t carry that burden. Pull yourself up by your boot straps and show some self dignity. Stop holding your hand out. Put that capable hand to work!

        • Icare

David Flannagan… you have to be one of the most ignorant people in the country… first off I am a male that would love to go a few rounds with an idiot like you…

You talk about welfare, food stamps, housing vouchers etc…. where do you think the money comes from for these??? It comes from your tax dollars, my tax dollars, and every other working persons tax dollars…

Compared to the wasted tax dollars by our government officials, this is small potatoes…

One trillion dollars for a fighter jet that doesn’t fly…
700 billion in tax breaks to Big Businesses over ten years…
Business expenses paid by tax dollars to Big Businesses to ship American jobs overseas…
and the list of wasted tax dollars goes on—->

as for dignity, I have what I need, but you need some along with a little compassion for those that our government officials, big businesses, wall street, housing market, and insurance put in this position by destroying our ecconomy and the worse loss of jobs in history…

So put on some pants and Man Up!!!

        • Michelle

So when and if you ever get laid off from your job, your saying you wont have you hand out to the government looking for help in unemployment insurance? I’m sure you would because your a tax payer and have paid into it…..just like some of the unemployed people out there right now…they’ve all paid into it as well when they were employed!

        • Ann Marie

David Flannagan, Are you living in Oz? It takes money to get to job interviews. You need a place to live so you can dress and bathe to be presentable at the interview. You need appropriate clothes or attire to interview in. It would be nice to be able to have food in your stomach before the interview so your belly isn’t growling in hunger during the interview. You need to have telephone service so your future employer can contact you and if you are lucky enough to actually get hired, you need money to get to work and for food.

        • BC Shelby

…umm sir, in most, if not all states, unless you have dependent children living with you you are only eligible for SNAP benefits and nothing else, not even a week’s worth of bus tickets.

Blaming people for having children is hitting far below the belt sir..

Most if not all of these people once had good jobs that they lost thanks to a recession precipitated by mismanagement, poor decision making, and greed on the part of our financial institutions. Those very same institutions were bailed out in spite of their misdeeds. However. those people who lost everything because of it seem to be nothing more than animals to you because they had kids.

          Sick. I pity you sir.

Oh, we’d be glad to “put that capable hand to work” as you so say if employers would stop discriminating against the long term unemployed, against older applicants, and against people who, because they lost pretty much everything, now have poor credit scores. We’d be happy to take a lower paying position if we weren’t always told we were “overqualified” for it and turned away. We’d be happy to train for a new position which currently is only offered to a foreign national on an H1-B, who has little to no experience and will take that job back overseas with them when they’re done. We’d be ecstatic if corporations would hire American workers here instead of continuing to outsource job opportunities offshore.

Y’know a lot of us are growing very tired of “paying the way” for the corporations, wealthy, and “do nothing” politicians through higher tax rates on our paltry incomes compared to the percentage they pay on the fortunes (if at all in some cases, given all the loopholes they have at their disposal).

I used to get a modest refund each year, maybe enough to get a new hard drive or upgrade the memory in my computer. This year, I had to pay nearly 600$.

Yeah, we’re deadbeats and moochers alright.

          • jack d

Well said its amazing how much misinformation is stated as knowledge

        • jack d

You sir are as dumb as they come did you know the government cut back welfare and food stamps and no longer offers section 8 (vouchers) and you have the nerve to say training for the NEW job market? There’s NO job market to train for I have been a construction worker for 20 years am proficient in plumbing, electric and carpentry tell me how my skills do not apply to the NEW world genius

Joe Manchin is in an exceptionally good position to address an asymmetric national security issue. The NFL, NCAA and the federal govt. are unwilling to touch it.

  • Gregg H

Oh yeah layla. Your so right. Anybody who is unemployed must be at fault for losing their job. So then, they don’t qualify. It’s haters like you that are easy to judge people, who you never met, and say ” too bad loser, it’s your own fault THERE ARE NO JOBS. Fact is there are minimum wage part time jobs, but as an american who’s WORKED my whole life, why should I get kicked down to the bottom of the ladder just because the ECONOMY is tanking right now? WE WILL GET BACK UP again

    • BC Shelby

…and if you wither earned a decent salary, have a long work history, or are older (over 50) you are usually branded as being “overqualified” for those jobs and turned down anyway.

Seems you can’t win no matter what anymore.

  • Gregg H

Law states an unemployed person must take a job offer within 20% of their previous working wage. Not to have to accept part time minimum wage employment. This is why its called INSURANCE!

  • Jeff Speaker

Boehner is saying he made it clear that he will not consider the bill until the proper provisions are made. But when we ask him to be specific on what changes need to be made he says ask the administration, how is that being clear? And sad to say if there are changes made to the bill and Boehner finally allows the house to vote even though 193 out of 218 have already signed a petition to bring it to a vote, the bill would have to go back to the senate so they can agree on the changes made and by the time that happens the bill would have expired cause there not gonna come to an agreement by May 27th. But truth be told Its not really about the bill at all ,its the fact that republicans like Boehner just don’t want to agree with anything Obama is for and they know that people are side tracked by the fact the president is black and we’er so occupied with this racial issue that we’er not looking at the fact that republicans are running a muck in the house. Its almost like coming home to find out your baby sitter spanked your child, your child knows that you would be to angry that someone other than the parent spanked your child that you wouldn’t even consider what they did wrong. so this gives your child the window he needs to do what he shouldn’t. any how as angry as we are about all this Democrats are loving this too cause these issues and delays will ensure that they take the house in November so even though in there hearts they want boehner to bring the bill to a vote they consider it a necessary evil if he doesn’t. There are 7.5 billion people in the world and only 5000 control the wealth. It takes a special kind of evil to know you have enough resources to last beyond your life time and your children lifetime but yet continue to want more…and continue to feed off those who barely have enough resource to make to thru the week. Unemployed Dont worry God is watching and its gonna be a real shocker for Boehner and others like him when he finally has to answer for these sins. Or maybe not maybe Boehner is already aware that God really does exist and has chosen to take up employment for you know who. How else could you be comfortable with knowing your the reason that so many people suffer. How else could you go on a two week vacation knowing that people are loosing there cars, homes, phones, daily . While you tee off at some resort sipping hundred dollar a glass scotch.

    • Michael Mlyniec

TL:DR – All of the politicians are evil and corrupt. Time we vote them all out, then hold trial and each convicted congressman and representative shall be hanged. All future politicians get term limits and no lifetime pensions and healthcare. Pay raises and decreases are decided every 4 years by the American voters per state. Problem solved.

    • K.D.

I am a white American Veteran and can’t help thinking that it is a racial issue. They just straight up don’t want to give President Obama any credibility on any issue. Sad but true.

      • Mark Douglas

At some point we the people have to say enough is enough. Everything the party of no has been about is trying to make Obama look bad. That worked so well Obama won reelection so now it seems like lets make his supporters suffer. Well the problem with that line of thinking is when you hold so many millions of Americans hostage especially the poor and struggling middle class, sure you get some Obama supporters but you get a whole lot of more fish in your net including votes that could help the GOP make a difference after Obama. But they are so short-sighted as well as short on ideas that I don’t think they they know how to win a National Election or influence anybody besides raising vast amounts of money to flood the airwaves with commercials. How many Billions of dollars or Billionaires will it take to steal the votes of us American veterans. We fought for our Country what would it take to keep us from voting or for voting for those show us their disdain while smiling and saying thank you for your service.LOL

        • Itsmommy

Nearly everyday Boehner tweets something about supporting Vets. Every time his does, I tweet the following back to him, “@SpeakerBoehner Mr Speaker, this is my daily reminder, if you refuse to bring a #RenewUI vote for 200000 vets, you don’t get to use them.” #HelpVets

      • Itsmommy

Thank you for your service. I agree. Hate to say it out loud but some, if not much, of this obstruction is about President Obama’s race. It’s a sad commentary on the state of the Republican party. They need to be stopped.

      • Mike Tygrysiecki

        Obama doesn’t have any credibility.

        • bonner

Obama has more credibility than Butt Hole Boehner.

  • Sarvesh Pal

Boehner is the worst politician in american history.
Why would american choose such a person as they elected official

    • Almighty_Pen

      He should be fired.

      • Sarvesh Pal

Yes definately, but why would people elect, i am suprised, why americans cannot find their politicians who are harvard or yale graduate, Check the history and record most of our politicians are high school drop out and bullys in school life

      • BC Shelby

…were he in the private sector he would have been sacked just for coming in each day smelling of alcohol like a number of representatives have reported.

    • cammy

because they didn’t want Pelosi. if she had been re-elected we wouldn’t be having this discussion

  • Almighty_Pen

Many, many people are losing their homes because unemployment was stopped and no decent jobs are offered. It’s even hard to get a job at a fast food place. I know a lot of people who lost their homes and are now on welfare feeding off the system because of no jobs.

    • Roxanne Brown

:raises hand: Laid off July 2013, UI benefits ended January 2014, evicted in March, homeless in April. If not for food stamps I couldn’t even eat. Far cry from the $60K I made in 2012.

Boehner and all the rest of those obstructionist Republican d-bags should die slowly in a fire.

      • JustinBailey

Next time somebody tells you that you’re lazy, just not trying hard enough, or don’t want to work punch them for me. So pathetic. All of you people waiting with baited breath to get your windfall unemployment retroactive checks. Sorry to say the only thing that’s coming is the Easter Bunny. Maybe he’ll give you some golden eggs, because The Republicans won’t! So all of you posters go out this Sunday morning and search and see what that nice Bunny left for you. Better hope he’s a Democrat.
    Happy Easter!

behold. You are wrong. You have no facts. move along. You have been duped. You are the dupe. You are the troll you rail. move along. “Guest” has exposed “Guest”. Guest does not exist. He is not a guest. You are wrong.

          • Mark

When you say behold, you have to have something to behold. You continue to butcher the English language by saying words that don’t make coherent sentences. I am correct, you aren’t even citing what you are saiyng I am wrong about. You’ve now resorted to responding to me asking you to make a point by just saying Im wrong. Either less than 15 years old, or european, is a guaruntee of who you are behind the keyboard. When someone has exposed you as being a troll, you can’t just copy what they say and repeat it back to them, that doesn’t unwrite all of the comments you wrote. That doesn’t make anyone at all say “oh wow yea hes right” You willl never be right because you cant make any points. You don’t even know why you are here except to spread your ill will throughout the comment section for no reason. You are Guest and we all know this. Again, this is now played out and there is nothing you can do or say that can change that. You will be responded to everytime and we will always be one step ahead of you. If you want to contribue to this conversation with facts, feel free to do so, but your opinions and trolls will be met by my word exposing you once again for who you are. Every single time. You must attempt harder to move along.

    • Michelle

Wow….seriously??? Do you really think this is a joke? While your in hear posting your smug remarks and your ridiculous golden egg and easter bunny comment, there are families going hungry, families losing their homes and all they ever worked for. While you make your sarcastic happy easter remarks, there are familes with small children who wont have a home this easter. Smh…

    • TheCarCzar

      • Michelle

        LMAO!!

    • Truthe

It is not pathetic. We are indeed waiting, but we do not have baited breath. You are misuing the english language. You don’t have to be sorry to say anything. The easter bunny is not coming. There is no Easter Bunny so he won’t be giving anyone anything. The republicans never said they were going to give anyone eggs, so your exclamation point doesn’t make any sense and you did not make a point. We do not need to do anything on Sunday, or search for anything. We do not care what affiliation anyone is. You wish someone Happy Easter out of spite to show how dead you are inside.

      • John

You are wrong. You have no facts. Like the Easter Bunny, david Flanagan does not exist. Yyet. you converse with DF. You are wrong. DF does not spell. he does not write. he does not exist. Thus, he has no intentions for you to judge. You have no facts. you are wrong. move along. You are the troll you rail. move along.

        • Mark

I am correct, and again, for the 3rd time I have only facts. I have never written a lie or made any negative comments to anyone. I’ve just simply been here to respond to you and shed light on all of your sociopathic behavior until you do what I said from day one and move along. People are here to comment on actual issues and being that it’s 2014, we’d like to be able to hold a dialogue without be trolled. Since you refuse to stop, you will be responded to every single time while the light is shown on who you are. DF does not spell” is now the 3rd reply in 10 minutes that you’ve written that is not a coherent english sentence. The rest of oyur reply attempts to make a point by using the word “thus” and then you continue to respond by trolling more, making no point, calling the person who is responding to you a troll, and then copying what they say to you as they explain you should move along. More sociopathic behavior that will accomplish nothing here. You will never win.

  • Anakin818

I agree! shame renewing UI should have taken place long time ago! it’s the ppl money not congress!

  • barrnone

It is one thing to voice opinions but this is a time for action. The way this system is set up either rep or dems will get blamed for this but it will be business as usual. The party system does not work for average Americans anymore. When one man can shut down a govt of 300 million it is nothing for another man to hold 2 million hostage or send 5 million into poverty. We have better make the conversation about fighting back, leveling the playing field, there’s nothing to stop them from doing something like this or worse every year.

    • Michelle

Sadly, that’s what it is going to have to come down to, us standing up to our own government. This is no longer a government for the people by the people. Its eventually going to get to a point where all hell is going to break free. Starting to think that show “revolution” isn’t to far fetched. You have have your militia government and liberal group citizens fighting one another and the liberal citizens are all fighting for what America truly stands for. Not too far from where we are headed…sad to say.

  • sick and tried

How many weeks has congress taken off so far this year? Maybe we should stop all their paychecks until they can get this taken care of…. I promise you they are not eating or losing theirs houses and cars its crazy to think we live in the united states and we are letting our own suffer like this!! I thank God everyday I still have my job Its hard for me to sleep at night knowing a bunch of selfish greedy people wont do whats right for america!!! Step up congress/house get this done this week these people need help quit taking your time THEY NEED OUR HELP!!!

  • Glenda Adams

What the heck has our government come to…we are suffering and praying for this extension everyday only to get disappointed. What a shame!

  • DJMiles

Only a few days left to contact every Republican and Democrat in the house while their working in their Districts. …we need to keep the phones ringing to the point they unplug them. Also it’s important to email the white house and ask when Obama will be meeting with Speaker Boehner to work out a compromise to get unemployment passed.Set a goal for yourself to contact 5,10,15 etc Representatives a day from now till April 28th.I use Google maps and pick a different town ever day in Boehner s district and write his office.

  • clayusmcret

Why are the supposed moderate democrat senators petitioning Harry Reid to allow votes on hundreds of bills passed out of the House? Manchin has been a real disappointment.

  • walter hidalgo

This is a political racial issue, when President Bush ask for it got approved right away, now they opposed to every bill the President Obama send for a vote, America was ready to elect a black President (even a republican, C. Powell), but no ready for the majority of white Republicas even white Democrats of Capittol Hil to let a black or a woman (any race) to be in a osition higher than they.

    • Larry

Racial issue, my rear end !

Bad bills sent by ANY occupant of the WH are simply BAD. This “occupier” (absolutely NOT a President) has sent a series of DEMANDS, and has REFUSED to compromise on ANY issue. With Reid, he has brought the government to a standstill. Reid’s REFUSAL to allow the Senate to vote on bills passed by the House goes beyond any semblance of reasonable action. His “Chief of in-Justice”, Holder has ridden roughshod over laws he is tasked to enforce, and has targeted those who disagree. The IRS and EPA have acted as Obama’s Gestapo.

Obama has lied, cheated, stolen, and engaged in criminal conspiracy. He is a disgrace to this country, and especially to those unfortunate enough to share any shade of his skin color. That is why leaders of that community are calling for impeachment of Obama and Holder.

This is quite probably the most racist administration in American history.

  • David Flannagan

I have a great idea! How can we get the attention of the country on our horrible plight? All of the TV news shows are ignoring this. Not a word out of the late night talk show hosts. The only place to see this government sanctioned financial brutality is in these liberal web sites.
We need to be united in our cause. We need to “March on Washington” for our Unemployment Benefits! What better way to bring our message to the masses. The perfect day to do this is Mothers Day. Bring your friends, neighbors and co-workers. That’s right -we don’t have co-workers, strike that. Heck, even bring your Moms! Nothing tugs on the heart strings any harder than having our Moms with us to show support-on Mothers Day. We don’t have much time, but we can do it! We need a strong leader, with great organization skills. I had someone in mind but he has a job and can’t go.
Start by booking your flight to Washington or get your get your bus ticket. Just get there any way you can. Get there on Saturday so we can get our signs ready for the march. Come on people now ,smile on your brother , everybody get together and get our unemployment right now, right nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
That is the perfect marching chant. I’m getting emotional now. I have to take a break.

    • DaveFlanniganSucksBalls

          • David Flannagan

I make a concerted effort to bolster support for your cause and all I get is ridicule. If you don’t want my help or ideas then I’ll just go to the “Mothers Day march on Washington” without you! You will not be allowed to attend the march. You can just sit home and watch it on your TV. Something you’re lazy B@#$ is accustomed to.

    • K.D.

David Flannagan….flycatcher….Sebastian klay….and many more. This is the same guy. Claims to be a reserve retired Lt. Colonel who’s rich and has a corvette collection. How impressive. He gets his jollies like a child making prank phone calls. He claimed to work in entertainment field of duty in the US Air Force. What the heck is that? You’re a real hero, lets give him a hand!!

I can not believe that congress has sat and dragged this vote out like they have no cares to answer too the public .. well, I tell u , I am 1 !!! of many, that will vote them out next election for the delay in approving this much needed ui extention for familys to have living expenses , housing and food…LOOK what they will cause next……forclosures and bankruptcys are coming soon, they are a worthless Congress SO. fire them asap….

  • Michele Sankey

Stand together 3.8 million unemployed Americans! https://www.Facebook.com/Empoweringpeoplewithavoice

  • Icare

We have a real problem here in our country. We have government officials in congress and the senate that are trying to make the people of this country believe that the jobless problems that we face were created by those that are unemployed.

But if you remember, the problem was created by our government when they allowed the housing market and banks to run wild by allowing people of this country to buy real estate that they could not afford. They allowed wall street to run wild and then started an illegal war in Iraq that raised the oil and gas prices and opened the door for the housing market to crash along with alot of big businesses, banks, and insurance companies like AIG.

Now here is the stupid thinking of our so called government leaders… they believe that by not extending unemployment benefits that it will create jobs for everyone that is unemployed. Really??? By forcing hard working Americans into deeper poverty, onto the streets, some to suicide, and killing the American way of life is the solution to creating jobs… That’s Total B.S.!!!

They [our government officials] need to extend the unemployment benefits with no strings attached and use the time they take off and the time they actually work to find the right way to create jobs.

You don’t create jobs by giving big corporations huge tax breaks, business deductions to move jobs overseas, building trillion dollar fighter jets that don’t fly, and giving billions of our hard earned tax dollars to foreign countries.

The people of this country should never be placed last!! We elected these people to take care of our country and the people of our country and they are doing a piss poor job of it!!

The focus of taking care of this country and the people should always be first on their agendas and not that of big businesses. We need reps in Washington D.C. that actually work for this country and the people of this country and not the interests of big businesses which is destroying this country.

Writing on blogs doesn’t work! Writing and calling these reps doesn’t work!!!

So forget about protesting in your state capitals, Wa. D.C., and march on the news stations in your states. Doing this will force those in charge to start listening to the people. It will force the news agencies to finally look at what is happening to the unemployed and let everyone in this country and around the world know what is happening and show the true nature of our greed government reps!!!

If you want to call somebody, call the T.V. News Stations…

  • David Flannagan

Is not getting your unemployment benefits extended again for the 7th time really going to lead to mass suicides? I can’t believe people are really writing this garbage.
On the other hand if someone were to pour gas on them self and turn into a human torch this might just be the ticket to get the Republicans to come around.
I’m not advocating this! Do not go to your local shopping mall and light yourself on fire! It’s just too crazy and extreme. Peaceful, public, demonstrations and marches (see my “march on Washington” post) are really the best way to get the point across.

  • John Mhaon

I am speechless. I can’t believe they have made me a pawn in their selfish tactics.I think all of us that are experiencing this are angry but I also think they have made us ashamed. If this was being done to us because race, religion etc, we would have a more Americans pressing the congressmen/women and saying unfair; not right however we are only 3m strong and what they argue over is if we are even worth being heard from and counted for!.

So here is what we need to promise ourselves, we need to speak to everyone we know and tell them. If they have ever been here they will know what scared and anxiety is. Tell them why We are 2014 mid term election fodder for all incumbents to keep their jobs.

We lose our place in life they secure theirs. Am I right? Please let me know.

We need everyone, every Americans support!

    Thanks God Bless

    • David Flannagan

“If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive.” You are so right John. We need to tell our plight to anyone that will lend an ear. From the postman to the grocery bag boy. Be strong and shout it from the mountain tops! I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!

      • John Mhaon

That pretty slick Flanagan. You have audience here, spelling and sharing our current challenges. But will tell you I know you and when this goes in the direction that it will and we all move on. Flanagan will have find another group or way to spew what ever is in your empty brain and heart.

I will be happy to know where to find you; scooping low.

        John

        • David Flannagan

          John

Your grammar and writing skills are exemplary! You are obviously a very educated man .I find it hard to believe that you are unemployed with such a gift to articulate the way you do. Very impressive!

          • John Mhaon

            You are right.

          • Michelle

Only uneducated person I see in this room is you. It seems all you ever do is pass judgement or make assumptions, and judgements and assumptions are not based on facts. People who are educated know facts. Guess that means your not educated because all that spews out of your mouth are judgements, assumptions, and lies.

          • Carol Findlay

Educated people also have a firm grasp on 3rd grade grammar and spelling. If someone couldn’t be bothered to learn what they should have known by the time they were 8 years old, then there is no reason to suspect they put any effort at all into educating themselves. That’s why they’re invariably outed for simply repeating what they’ve heard other people say or what they heard on the TV. That’s about at the level of people who attempt to argue politics while sitting in a diner or a bar.

The only exception is ESL–those educated people born and raised in other countries, for whom English is not their first language. In America, we now have EFL–English as a first language and even the only language. Millions of Americans who can’t speak, read, or write their own language. They have only one language and don’t even know what it is. Pathetic. And we wonder why the rest of the world laughs at us.

I just was contacted that my high school friend just committed suicide. He lost his job back in 2013 ran out of unemployment Dec. 28,2013. First, utilities were turned off. Then he lost his car, lost his home March 31, 2014 that he paid for 20 years. He left behind his wife and 2 children.

Mr. President what is it going to take for you to FINALLY, step up and sign the bill. How many families have to be destroyed. So, now you have a family that has no choice but to go on welfare. So, tell what is the senate winning for not signing the bill.

You go from unemployment to welfare. These family have no choice.

    • jack d

Unfortunately they have cut back welfare and foodstamps as well
it will stop when crime goes through the roof

    • Guest

I am sorry about your friend. I am seeing this on Twitter now, more than I care too. Unfortunately, Obama doesn’t have a bill to sign. Although the measure passed the Senate with 59 votes, Boehner (ConGRESS) HAS ABSOLUTELY REFUSED TO BRING IT TO THE FLOOR for a vote. so, there is NO BILL for Obama to sign. The teeparty has him and other republiCONS by the balls and so they won’t DO ANYTHING on ANY MATTER for the next 3 years.

  • Michele Carroll

I’m going to lose all my resources to even look for work if this unemployment extension does not go through! I have to beg money from family, friends and neighbors for food and gas money! I have not a dime to my name. I eat pasta with no sauce or butter every day for lunch and dinner! My life sucks so bad right now! I’m going on interviews for P/T work and very low pay and I’m not even getting those jobs! I will be homeless by next month if nothing happens soon! And I’m not joking!

  • Michele Carroll

I’m so disgusted! I hope Boehner goes broke and so he can see what having nothing feels like!

  • Brian Bodor

I understand that Boehner is standing his ground and he wants provisons included to make it viable. However, this is PRIME example of how out of touch our political leaders are. You want to make it a political showdown thats fine, but pass a few month extension WHILE you argue about it. This isn’t a political game. People are losing houses, cars, and credit histories are being destroyed while this process drags out. I will be honest a retroactive benefit is almost useless by now. These people have already lost everything. I am a lifelong (R) in a primarily Republican area and this issue alone has sealed the GoP fate in the next few elections. (I know my friends and family aren’t the only Republicans, but we are a good representative sample and we are voting against all incumbent Republicans based on this alone. Almost everyone I talk to at the military base I work at is saying the same thing.) I know there aren’t unlimited funds and I know some people abuse the system, but this Bill was paid for and most of the people who needed it are legitimate workers unable to find work. I have don’t have a dog in the figh as my job is secure and we are well off, but I have a lot of smart, hard-working friends who needed this and the Government turned their collective back on them. Meanwhile, we had no problem rapidly issuing billions in foreign aid. What a slap in the face…

  • Steven Brown

I left military service in late July 2013 after 7 years as Active Duty Army and started school 2 weeks later, applied for unemployment benefits which I was originally told would be good for 99 weeks (plenty of time to complete my Associate’s-level work and be able to focus on school). Then, with no forewarning, I lose my unemployment benefits right before my wife gives birth to my first son.

I can tell you right now, the $1200 a month I get from the GI Bill does not go far with an infant and a wife who’s finishing up her Bachelor’s degree.

We’ve tightened our belt considerably, I’ve been applying for jobs since I found out I lost benefits and have gotten no responses. 18 weeks (approximately 4 months) is not enough time to find a decent
job in this economy that’s not flipping burgers, which is probably what
I’ll have to resort to to make ends-meet.

I know I’m not the only person going through this, or something similar, extending unemployment benefits is the right thing to do for people who actually need it for the right reasons.

Where do I sign this petition?

  • Gar

Not getting my hopes up on this. They have dragged this out too long. Pretty soon it will be forgotten. Remember after the 1st of the year Obama was saying it was top priority? Not any longer. Now we pledge a billion to Ukraine, 0 to American’s who worked and paid taxes to support these clowns.

    • John

No, it will never be forgotten. There is no hope that is needed. Obama never said this specifcally was top priority, he said that unemployment was and he is only one man and we know his position on it. We haven’t had a chance to pledge the money to americans yet. You assume to much without letting anything play out. Not one sentence in your pst says that we’ve passed the senate after all of the articles saying it wouldn’t even do that. No one cares for any negative comments that speculate on their personal opinions. Move along.

      • John

You have no facts. You are wrong. Obama lies. fact. you are wrong. No one cares about your comments. You assume too much without letting it play out. Wrong now. right tomorrow…right today wrong tomorrow. Does not compute. GAr does not exists. I am wrong. I must move along.

        • Mark

i have nothing but facts. I am correct. Obama does not lie. I am correct. Everyone cares about my comments. I do not assume anything and I let everything play out. I am correct now, and I will be correct tomorrow. Right today and right tomorrow. It does not compute because you fail at understanding the most basic of things as your responses have clearly shown us time and time again. “GAr does not exists” just came out of your mouth. You just said that, and then pressed enter after being satisified with it. More footprints of sociopathc behavior and failed attempts and bringing any kind of credibility to your constant rants that make no sense and refuse to make a point. You are wrong, and yes, you should move along, I am glad you realize that now.

One can’t help but wonder how Hussein Obama intends fund the civilian national security force he desires: http://youtu.be/Tt2yGzHfy7s?t=8s

  • John

You are the bully. You are the troll. You are a liar. You duped me. Thus. I am the dupe and the troll..wait. That does not compute. Wait. I can’t compute. I don’t exist. I am wrong. I must move along. I am the troll.

  • Mark

You do not help the situation. Move along.

  • jack dee

so tired of hearing about the keystone pipeline being our savior they are holding 3million people hostage for a pipeline that will only produce 20,000 long term jobs and is in immediate violation of the Indian reservation preservation law but hey what’s another fight to start we are already involved with Russia, south Korea,Libya,Afghanistan and Ukraine its much better we send them aide then to help Americans when the senate took this job which is over paid and under worked 2 weeks a month “break” what a joke they were supposed to be there for the people not for the big industrial development companies that build a fortune on American people while the products they sell are made in foreign countries and then they get a “tax break” for doing this outsourcing on top of it……….

  • Linda Utley

I have been laid off since January of this yr 2014 , I relocated back from Illinois to Indiana last year never being told that my job would end in 10 months. I to am struggling wondering were the nice dime is going to come from. It cost my $5,000 to move back, I was just getting everything caught up in bills when this happened. I worked for the employment office for over 3 1/2 yrs when it ended on 1-3-14. My ex boss has blackballed every job I have applied for, so I wrote my congressman, and woman, they got not answers either from DWD were I worked. I then sent a letter to the governor of Indiana and waiting to see what he is going to do. If this doesn’t work I will go to the TV stations and tell then my story. Yes, I am getting unemployment but not much each week, and this will end in 8 weeks. For you see when they laid me off their were jobs available in different offices, I also applied for the same job in 2 different offices and had done the job before and I keep getting this you are not qualified. How can you not be qualified when you did the job before? So you see I am fighting my battle also, and I agree with some of the comments. They need to have the president, house, senate , etc change places with us low income people and let them know how it feels. But it will never happen, and their will be more and more people who will become homeless.

  • John Carmiche

I see no support for the extended unemployment benefits or i should say support that means anything. A lot of talk but no real actions taken against Bohner not even the president can do anything.I don’t see local news coverage of this issue i even called my new station. They said they report news they see fit what the hell is that about 2 million Americans plus screwed over and that’s not news I post to every post that i see about these benefits but in all reality its not making a difference. There is something terribly wrong with our country when they worry more about other countries then there own. I to am a vet Viet Nam era was proud to serve my country with the USMC. Now on the verge of being homeless .But i still will continue to voice my option to whoever will listen.

  • Yonatan YONATAN

I can’t believe that after ALL of this time, and after break after break, we still have no extension bill passed in the senate. This proves that the republican party never had ANY intention to pass this bill REGARDLESS of what concession was offered to them. These republican senators have shown their true distain for the poor people in this country. There can be no other explanation for their lack of total compassion and empathy with those in our country who are hurting financially in one of the worse recessions in many years. As a “FORMER” republican, I’m shocked and disappointed by the party that once was my own. I will NEVER EVER vote for a republican again in the future, and will encourage family and friends to do the same. The republican party has lost it’s way and are no longer relevant to it’s constituents. Just what kind of game are they playing here? When we have more than two million families out of work, without any benefits, struggling from day to day to keep a roof over their children’s heads, and food on the table, they’re playing party politics? These senators are heartless, soulless, bureaucrats, who do not care about you and me, but ONLY themselves and their party. We need to make a huge change in the next elections, and make sure that the republicans are never in charge again to do this sort of thing to helpless people

  • Roxanne Brown

Yeah… I’m an atheist, so I don’t have the comfort of believing, “Go to Hell,” will come true. There’s an infinitesiimal possibility they might, in fact, die in a fire. I find that comforting LOL
