Will Obama Call Boehner on Unemployment Extension?

Will President Barack Obama pick up his vaunted phone and call Speaker John A. Boehner to try and cut a deal on an unemployment extension?

Obama and his lobbying arm, Organizing for Action, have urged supporters to call members of Congress and ask them to pass an unemployment extension, but so far he doesn’t appear to have taken his own advice.

Last week, Labor Secretary Thomas E. Perez sent Boehner a letter offering to meet and negotiate an unemployment extension, but nothing appears to have come of that, either.

A GOP House leadership aide dismissed the letter in an email.

“Secretary Perez’ ‘offer’ was basically, ‘Hey, enact the whole White House domestic agenda – including UI, comprehensive immigration, and the President’s version of tax reform – and we’ll call it a “deal” – OK?’  It was completely unserious. Boehner has been clear since before Christmas about what we would need to see from the White House — and they are just not acting.”

Boehner, R-Ohio, repeatedly has demanded that the president come to him with a new jobs offer before he’ll consider allowing a vote on an extension of emergency unemployment benefits, which expired in December.

It’d be harder to blow off a call from the president, of course, than Perez. Even Vladimir Putin still takes Obama’s calls.

Presidential involvement — and an offer to maybe accept something, anything on the House GOP’s wish list — might be the only thing that gets this bill moving, with an effort to attach an extension to a tax cut bill falling apart in the Senate.

The White House last week threatened to veto a House corporate tax cut bill, citing its impact on the deficit, while noting that the Senate-passed unemployment extension bill was paid for and cost a much smaller amount of money.

But the administration has not played true hardball on an unemployment extension. Obama hasn’t made his signature on any budget-related item or GOP priority contingent on passage of emergency unemployment benefits.

Obama signed a two-year budget law late last year that did not include the unemployment extension; he signed a farm bill; he signed a one-year extension for doctors whose reimbursements would have been slashed under Medicare, and he signed an omnibus appropriations bill.

The clock meanwhile is running on the Senate-passed five-month unemployment extension. The retroactive bill would run out in June.

Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., told CQ Roll Call Wednesday that supporters of an unemployment extension would have to head “back to the drawing board” with no action in the House, and the Senate unlikely to add it to an unpaid-for package of tax breaks.

Obama, for his part, isn’t threatening to veto the Senate’s tax cut bill — either over it blowing a hole in the budget or for not including an unemployment extension.

I think that now the working class republicans now see what their party thinks of middle class hard working Americans.

Pressure Obama by calling, emailing, tweeting to him and his press secretary Jay Carney. Boehner is making Obama his whipping boy, DEMAND A VOTE. I did.

        Yea…because that helps??? NOT…

        • Laura Berrum

          But it doesn’t hurt either!

At least Republican Dean Heller has tried adding the EUC to the tax cut bill. but know the Democrats are refusing that??????? It’s ridiculous!!!!!!!

Heller hasn’t actually filed an amendment at last check.

      • FedUpInNJ

They are ALL posturing for midterms. We need to demand TERM LIMITS for these do nothing politicians.

          YES

Democrats in the Senate are currently blocking a move that would attach retroactive unemployment pay to a tax cut bill. The unemployment measure would revive benefits for those whose payments ran out late last year.

Senator Dean Heller (R-Nev.) co-authored legislation that revives expired unemployment benefits and includes retroactive pay. Heller attempted to tie this legislation to another bill that would cut taxes.

    • FedUpInNJ

Reid needs to go! His personal hate for the Koch brothers affects his judgement. His is old and USELESS! TERM LIMITS ARE THE ANSWER!

      • mrmano_0

care to give credit to the original author?…quick..before I give out the link…

    • FedUpInNJ

Its all BS. Reid should have added it to the budget back in November but didn’t… hmmmm…. guess he has his own political agenda. Either way Reid has lied over and over again. He has proved to be just as much as an obstructionist as the Republicans! Reid has a personal problem with the Koch brothers, much like the Republicans have a problem with a black president, so he is using his position to try and take them down… like that could happen! Reid is old and useless at this point and should be removed from office. REID=LIAR!

      • mrmano_0

This is a very good post. care to give credit to the original author??…its a great plagiarized post.

    • Fisher

Just proves its both sides. We are screwed!! Niether of them want to have this passed for some reason. Why are they not concerned about not helping 3 million Americans? Why is none of this news worthy? I mean a man called Boehners wife on her cell phone and threatened to kill him and it wasnt a big news story. That sound weird to any one else? Any one else get the feeling we are getting brushed off, like at the end of the month they are going to say sorry we tried and then we are all just supposed to fade away. Go back to the trash can we are getting our dinners out of. I think there are 3 million of us. Sure we can not go to washington so we bring washingtion to us!! Boycott each of our town halls city halls any officials building we all start on the same day. Will we be heard then? These petitions and calls and emails dont do any thing. They are just spam mail to these jerks. We need to take action for ourselves because it is clear that we have no one on ourside. Not even the Democrates now. they have the perfect solution and wont take it!!

  • unemployedNurse

I just created a petition to remove Boehner as speaker of the house please sign and pass along. The cramp this man is getting away with is foul!! Go to https://petitions.whitehousegov/petition/removejohn-boehner!! or simply google remove john boehner as speaker of the house!! lets do this!!

    • FedUpInNJ

There are MANY petitions to remove Boehner from office, it makes no difference. People in Ohio need to vote him out in November, if they don’t they are just plain stupid.

THE REPUBLICANS IN THE SENATE, HAVE DONE THEMSELVES A HUGE DISSERVICE , BY THEIR UNWILLINGNESS TO PASS THE UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION BILL, FOR THE MORE THAN 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES, WITHOUT BENEFITS SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER. THE REPUBLICANS HAVE HELD THE BILL HOSTAGE, IN THE HOPES OF HAVING THE XL OIL PIPELINE BILL PASSED, ON BEHALF OF THEIR “CONSTITUENTS” THE KOCH BROTHERS. SINCE LAST DECEMBER, THEY HAVE USED THE PLIGHT OF THE UNEMPLOYED FOR POLITICAL LEVERAGE. THEY HAVE USED THESE UNFORTUNATE FAMILIES AS BARGAINING CHIPS. IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN FIVE MONTHS THAT THESE FAMILIES HAVE BEEN WITHOUT ANY MEANS TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR CHILDREN. MANY OF THESE FAMILIES HAVE FACED EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, PERSONAL BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WHILE THE POLITICIANS CONTINUE PLAYING PARTY POLITICS. THESE LIVES HAVE BEEN RUINED ECONOMICALLY SINCE THE CUT OFF FROM BENEFITS. MANY HAVE WATCHED THEIR CREDIT RATING GET DESTROYED IN THE PROCESS.

All bark, no bite. All these propaganda don’t help unless an actual action has been taken. EUC is just an election bargaining tool for both parties. All the while, the government for the people by the people is just one sorry, lame tagline.

    • S.2148

Hi Bella, I would like to give a compliment and say you are very attractive. If that is your real picture it put a sweet smile on my face. And yes your are correct the gov. is a lame tagline! I wrote the President a little while back and he responded a couple of days ago.
      The letter states:

Thank you for writing, and for your service and sacrifice. Even
though our economy is getting stronger, there are still too many
Americans who are looking for work—often for months at a time, and often
through no fault of their own. I appreciate that you took the time to
      share your story with me.

I know how hard it is right now for people who are trying to get
their lives back on track after losing a job. In the reports I get and
the emails I read, I see folks struggling with painful everyday
realities—including the cruel Catch-22 that the longer you are
unemployed, the more unemployable you may seem.

For many, things have been even harder since Congress failed to
extend emergency unemployment insurance last year. That was a vital
economic lifeline for more than a million Americans. And I know that
for families who depended on it, losing unemployment insurance meant
putting less fuel in the car, or less food on the table.

That’s unacceptable to me. I will keep fighting to make sure
Congress restores emergency unemployment insurance right away. But I
also know when you’re out of a job, every passing day means the
difference between falling further behind or getting ahead. That is why
I am taking action, right now, on my own, to help more Americans get
      back to work.

Already, hundreds of employers nationwide are adopting more inclusive
hiring policies that give the long-term unemployed a fair shot. I am
pushing for more businesses to do the same, and I am making sure the
Federal Government leads by example. We are also launching an
across-the-board reform of all our job training programs to advance a
single mission: train Americans with the skills employers need, and
then match them to the good jobs that need to be filled right now.

More than anything, I want you to know I will not stop attacking this
problem until it is fixed. America’s unemployed deserve their chance
to earn a piece of the American dream the same as anyone else—and I
won’t let up until they do.

Thank you, again, for writing. Anyone can get help finding a job or job training at JobCenter.USA.gov, http://www.Opportunity.gov, and http://www.CareerOneStop.org. To find an employment center near you, visit http://www.DOL.gov/DOL/Location.htm. For help with health benefits, housing assistance, or other public resources, call 1-800-FED-INFO or visit http://www.USA.gov.

      Sincerely,

      Barack Obama

Bella God Bless and best regards, Mark J.

      • http://www.bellesansmerci.weebly.com Bella

Thank you for the compliment. That is my picture. And my videos on my websites. Now, back to the EUC Extension…

I am outraged how both sides keep playing this situation out as though the Long Term Unemployed have not only lost their jobs, but these politicians, all of them, treat you guys like you have also lost your brains. The one year extension planned by Reed to attach to a tax bill is for presentation value only. If he can’t get Boehner to put a 5 month extension to a vote, what will 12 months accomplish with Boehner? Chess pieces. They all play you like chess pieces. For every suicide, every desperate acts of crime to survive the over 2 million forsaken citizens Boehner and Reid oppressed, all of them should be trued by the American people for crime against humanity.

      • http://www.bellesansmerci.weebly.com Bella

There is an article right now that states Obama has failed to call Boehner. Who should the nearly 3 million long term unemployed Americans with children believe? Who should they put their faith now that the government BY the people FOR the people is not just a sad reminder of their votes?

        • Leonard

Why should the prez call him?he should call the prez, thats very disrespectful thinking he have more power than Obama.

  • drhoops

Any extension MUST be for the ENTIRE 2014 year. Not 5 months.

    • Down and out in America

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE .THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE HURTING FOR THAT EXTENTION.AND THEIR NOT COUCH POTATOES. PEOPLE ARE STARVING TO DEATH.LOOSING EVERYTHING THEY HAVE.THIS MUST BE THE AMERICAN WAY ?????…NEED TO EXTEND UNEMPLOYMENT LIKE MONTHS AGO

    • Pin The Tail On Boehner

Couldn’t agree with you more. Boehner’s callousness inspired me as a long-term unemployed to launch a site in the hopes of sustaining myself. I think the message I wrote on the “About” page will resonate with you. We have until the end of May to get this bill passed in the House and not one Republican has signed the discharge petition to bypass Boehner to get this to a vote. All the House dems have signed it but we need 25 House Republicans too – try and put pressure on your Republican congressman.

Without those tax cuts the republican party will suffer greatly and eventually justice will prevail.

OVER THE PAST SIX MONTHS, MORE AND MORE FAMILIES ARE FACING EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WHILE THE REPUBLICANS CONTINUE HOLDING THE BILL “HOSTAGE” IN THE SENATE. THEY HAVE USED THESE 2.6 MILLION FAMILIES FOR POLITICAL LEVERAGE TO FURTHER THEIR PARTY’S POLITICAL AGENDA. THEY ARE MORE CONCERN WITH PLEASING THE KOCH BROTHERS THAN THE 99 PERCENT OF THE REST OF US AMERICANS. THEY HAVE CLEARLY SHOWN US JUST WHERE THE COMMON MAN FITS IN THEIR POLITICAL SCHEME OF THINGS. IF YOU HAVEN’T FIGURED IT OUT YET, WE FIT AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THEIR LIST. THE REPUBLICAN SENATE ARE A BUNCH OF SELF RIGHTEOUS, SELF PROMOTING, EGOTISTICAL, CAREER POLITICIANS, WHO DO NOT DESERVE OUR VOTE OR SUPPORT IN THE FUTURE. THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT YOU OR ME, OR YOUR FAMILY.

The Bill will never pass or even come up for a house vote WHY? NO ONE in washington cares and why would they ? they get paid a handsome salary for only working for approx.142 days a year with 3 day work weeks.
The White House and congress are no were near being in touch with the American people they are lazy and no have no compassion for the American People (except for other country’s) and have only there agenda at heart which has nothing to do with the American people’s needs I am ashamed to be a American and most of the people I talk to in person and on social media feel the same way all they have to do is listen but they wont what America needs is someone to step up and fight for what is right like a 40 hour work week for of the Senate and The house they should have to punch a time clock that is managed and ran bye non politicians they should also be paid buy the hour ! they should not have the right to vote on there own pay raises and how many days a week they can work that is just plain Ludacris

    • patricia

      I totally agree!

If they had to keep working until they came to an agreement they would have had this done months ago! They all suck!!!

This is all press BS. Obama needs to actually take action and get this passed. If he doesn’t there will be riots in the streets, increased crime and not one member of Congress will be safe from the person who snaps after losing it all and who could blame them? Boehner’s actions are nothing short of TREASON. Obama is being made to look like Boehner’s whipping boy by doing nothing. He sends out the occasional tweet and mentions the long term unemployed but thats as far as it goes… so much for “the year of action”. “Year of action” lol Obama needs to step up and get this passed period. If Boehner refuses to do his job Obama better do it for him. We’ll see in the next week, I pray Obama has the balls to get this done.

    • Down and out in America

I totally agree with you that Boehner’s actions are nothing short of TREASON

    • Carmara E Royster

Its going to be more than riots. This might be the thing that initiates martial law. People are going into survival mode, and pretty soon, the crime rate will soar. People will start looting and many other things will start happening if something is not done now. I would encourage everyone to keep their hope in Christ because we are in a time now where he is the only one that can redeem us from whats coming.

  • colleen

I call people every day I have called Boehner’s office a million times, I do not understand why we aren’t doing more? would be hard to ignore
3 million people on the capitol steps right? we should stop complaining and do something, My family is desperate

    • Down and out in America

Yes that would be nice to march on the capitol but who of us that are unemployed and broke could afford to make the trip and they know this to be true you can believe that!

      • colleen

I agree financially it would be very difficult but we have to do something! there is a petition out there that only requires 100,000 signatures to force Obama to take executive action….if 3 million people are unemployed why are there only 5,000 signatures?

        • Down and out in America

I would assume that a lot of them have lost the ways and means too I.E lost there internet , gas to go to the library or somewhere that has access ect… or have just plainly given up on any hope that a petition would change anything I have sighed a few of them with nothing changing

        • FedUpInNJ

I don’t believe the petitions do anything except give your email address to politicians so they can hound you for a donation. There have been LOTS of petitions out there since Dec. Everytime I get an email asking for a donation I “reply all” and type “You get NOTHING until the unemployment extension is passed and I can feed my family” I suggest you do the same; maybe if we all tell them to go to hell they will get it!

          • Larry king

There isn’t anything we can say to make them get it. The reason for that is because they truly do not care at all. This is all a game to them. Might as well accept it and try to move on. I am so sick of it all. They are not going to pass the extension and they are all guilty.

          • Pin The Tail On Boehner

They really are, they couldn’t careless – if only we could vote them all out of office in November, they sure don’t deserve to be there. Below is something I just started in response to this mess to try and get back on my feet. Any help getting the word out would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
            http://www.pinthetail.us/About

        • DL

A petition with 100,000 signatures does not force the president to use an executive order. It only warrants a response. Obama can not use an executive order to pass the extension.

          • Me

Yes he can and it’s legislation if you research it.

    • FedUpInNJ

If people had money they would feed their families with it, not go to Washington to be kicked off the capitol steps! There were about 30 people last week who spoke with Senators on the Capitol steps and gave their stories about being unemployed; that did NOTHING! Obama has seemed to turn his heart away from this issue by not taking action. I call, email, post on facebook and tweet EVERY DAY to Obama, Boehner, Reid, Peolosi and anyone else I can think of but its done no good. There is a HUGE Twitter conversation that has gone on for 5 months at #RenewUI that no one pays attention to. The press coverage has been basically non existent. Its GOT to be Obama who settles this if he is to keep any respect. Otherwise we all we know he is just riding the calendar until 2016 and will in fact be Boehner’s whipping boy until then.

      • DL

Obama can not use an executive order to pass the extension. This is a misconception that so many people have. He can not do it.

        • DJMiles

Great! Could he call Harry Reid? John Boehner? Refused to have signed the 4 must pass legislation since Dec? Could he demand EUC be part of the final tax cut compromise before he signs it? You people need to learn what’s going on .

          • Deanna

Obama can demand anything he wants, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it is going to happen. Didn’t Obama address this issue in front of the entire nation? He cannot do ANYTHING other than talk and “demand”. How well has that been working out? It is Congress responsibility to get a bill done and for Obama to say yes or veto. Even if Obama vetoed the bill, if 2/3 of the chamber vote yes they can override Obama’s veto. So he can call, scream, shout at people till the cows come home it doesn’t matter. Why do you think people keep referring to John Boehner when it comes to presenting the bill? Think about it, if Republicans knew it was left up to Obama, they would have been ripped him a new one to take the fall for this BS.

        • Matthew Pieri

Actually you are wrong. Obama could use an executive order to fund it for 90 days. After that he would need Congressional approval for any more funds. A 90 day check would help out a lot right now.

      • Pin The Tail On Boehner

Yeah, so much for “free press”, well and truly gone are those days…

  • Nicole Jackson

Really this is a bunch of bull!! The American people are suffering and instead of acting Boehner is attempting to shift blame and responsibility. Why does he need the President to call when thousands of Americans are calling out for help every day!!! Are our voices not important enough to be heard!! The Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this issue to go unresolved for so long while they stomp their feet and pout like three year olds trying to get their own way, squabbling over sense as so many are being evicted, so many have had power cut off, so many families are in dire need of help. We the people must speak and vote these officials out of office!!! If they don’t listen to us now maybe they will hear us loud and clear at the voting booth!!!

    • Nemesis4Life

The President isn’t even doing his job…he is supposed to cal Boehner that’s how the legislature works. You just don’t get into office and say…I’m good, let me get my check. What is the President doing for us? Making jokes about our situation at dinner parties and he’s not even demanding this be voted on. He cares as much as the rest. And Reid, is denying any amendments to the tax cut bill…they aren’t allowed to attach the UI bill to it…so what is the democrats doing that’s any different than the republicans? They want your vote…and as I can see they will get it…unfortunately…Honestly, the President isn’t even demanding that Reid allow the UI bill be attached…what does that say to you?

I’m just disgusted. I can’t believe people still support Obama and the Democrats. Everyone is angry with the Republicans and seriously they are all wrong. What have the Dem’s done for us? Nothing…they set in motion a bill they knew wouldn’t pass. They knew that Boehner (who speaks for the majority) wouldn’t allow it. All of them passed the budget and no one demanded that the UI bill be attached. The President (who is so sympathetic to us) didn’t even veto the bill…he passed it knowing we are all out of money. The President is a disgrace. He isn’t even doing his job and talking with the House Leader to work this out. He is saying one thing and doing another. Reid…omg, he is allowing NO amendments to any of the bills which is pretty much not allowing anyone to even add UI to it. But you all think they are in the right? Why didn’t Obama step up and do his job as President? Why is Reid blocking any kind of amendment to be attached? He won’t even allow the UI bill to be attached to it…but it’s ALL Boehner…seriously, they all are in the wrong! We are suffering and they don’t care. Boehner keeps telling them job creation…honestly I do agree with him, what do I do when my EUC runs out? If I couldn’t find a job in the 1 1/2 yrs of collecting, what do I do when I don’t even have that anymore? However, they need to do something temporarily until they figure it out. The democrats don’t even want to negotiate anything. Do you know how many times they say they will do something and the Republicans agreed to pass a bill, only to not have the Democrats keep good on their promises?

Honestly…I just don’t care anymore. I’ve lost everything while the Democrats try to get votes from the uneducated that still support them and the Republicans are too busy playing politics with them to help the people of this country. I bet if the 1% starts losing money because of this something would be done right away.

Most of you don’t even see the big picture. The Dem’s are worse than the Republicans…at least the Republicans say one thing and do it…

Just ashamed to be an American…

    • Down and out in America

      Amen and I agree

      • DJMiles

You want Boehner to allow vote on a bill that renews unemployment for a few weeks? House passed 43 Jobs bills plus 2 more last Friday all sitting in the Senate never voted on so you think it’s to much for him to ask 1 be attached? Obama couldn’t call Boehner or discuss EUC in 1 of their meetings and you say that acceptable? This is a bill that Democrats never wanted to pass but after forcing Republicans to block it twice finally 5 Republicans authored there own 5 month extension and obviously Democrats had to pass it since they couldn’t suddenly oppose extending unemployment. …You people need to wake up….we could have had this in December if the unemployed would have attacked the party responsible instead of their November opponents.

      • Nemesis4Life

True…I don’t understand how they can do this to their own people and send Billions to people who would kill us in a heart beat.

  • S.2148

Live from Madison Avenue New York ! President Obama dignify the bill with your pen and signature ! Thank you, M. J.

  • Larry king

What’s really screwed is that both parties have been playing games with us all along. If they would have just said the extension iwasn’t going to happen from the beginning, it would have been screwed, but at least people would have had to accept it. But instead they put it on a string and each time we think we are about to get it, they pull the string so it is out of reach again. I hate politicians! They are all liars!!! We need a whole new government. This one needs to be flushed down the toilet. The only decent one out their is Dean Heller. He has tried everything possible to get it for us. He has even went against his own party. Hey Dean, if you decide to go independent and run for president, you got my vote!

    • Nemesis4Life

I agree for the most part…but I read somewhere that Dean Heller is doing what he says either…such a sad world. I think we need to vote them all out and get this country back in our hands!

      • mrmano_0

Reid and Senate Dems block attachment of EUC to tax extenders bill…nice….demos are showing true colors..even though Demos will sign off on TE bill…….

    • elle

I agree. Dean Heller has worked hard regarding extending EUC as well as Congressman Steven Horsford. I commend both of them for caring about Americans. More and more people I talk to are going Independent from now on. I know we are.

  • Tom_F

Why would Obama call Boehner, just to get rejected? It would make him look impotent, just like when he asked Putin to return traitor Snowden and was laughed at, and when he asked Iran to return the U.S. drone and was mocked with a pink model airplane, like when he told Assad that there was a “red line” that shouldn’t be crossed in Syria and Assad ignored him. Besides, this issue is working for the Democrats; they don’t want to solve extended UI when they can use the issue to beat up Republicans, and Republicans don’t want to approve it just to have the exact same fight a month or two from now and closer to Nov elections. It is Win-Win-Lose! (Dem-Rep-Unemployed!)

  • Lawrence

Thank you Roll Call! Other media outlets need to run with this NOW!

  • Annie Rose

Its time for change alright.. BIG change. It is time We the People act. This is not what our forefathers wanted for this country and our future. The rate this country is going into debt, we are never going to recover. Our own leaders turn their backs on their own people and now their own country just to play their ponzi game. Ask yourself, what can I do to change this….. CLEAN THE HOUSE OF THIS GARBAGE! That’s what everyone can do…

  • The Crying Boozer Tangerine

Other media outlets needed to run with this in December. The damage is done.

  • Lawrence

It should be law that the statics related to EUC phone calls and emails sent to Boehner be published. We’re talking millions of phone calls and emails.

The renewui started with emails and phone calls to Senators, then Boehner, then our House Reps, Obama. Not to mention the #renewui folks tweeting! AND no media, no Anderson Cooper, no VICE, nobody is taking the time to look out for EUC.

If anyone at CNN, GOP, your local congressman, or any group in between, says they haven’t taken calls about EUC, they lie, they’ve turned a blind eye.

    • Larry king

It’s all BS! It should be headline news. It should be on 60 minutes. And do you know why it isn’t? Because they don’t want the rest of America to know what is going on. If all eyes were on this issue, I guarantee that something would be be done. Most people are not aware of this. If they were following this issue, they would clearly see what a corrupt government we have. Boehner would already be gone. They try to keep this out of the public eye.

      • Carmara E Royster

Start calling the news stations. Go through every media avenue that can be found. Use internet radio such as blog talk. Contact all the daily news papers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post etc. Use social media to expose them. Spread the word and get as many people as you can out to vote. One person can’t do it alone. We must unite as a nation and take it back. Its going to take all of us.

  • Dorothy Parker

Perhaps if those who lost unemployment got out from behind their computers and out onto the streets there would be change. You sit back with your useless petitions, online rants, and online prayers to Jesus. Go to a Congressperson’s office and sit in, break windows, sleep on their lawns. Do something that is not pointless whining by blaming it on one party. Look at other countries and put some effort into it.

    • Ann James

@disqus_S6rbLRO9rj:disqus …..Dorothy please pay my way to Washington from Michigan… I would surely be there without any problem. Due to the fact that I don’t have a car, nor gas money, or any type of transportation. I am sure a lot of us would go if we had the way of the mean to get to our goverment we would be right on their door step. I am using other people computer to continue my job search… I want give up…

      • Dorothy Parker

You don’t have a representative around you? No government buildings?Nothing.
You do not have to go to DC.
I understand your situation and I”m not trying to belittle it. It’s hard to take most seriously when I see people crying to Jesus on a messageboard.
The powers that be know the unemployed will do nothing and that’s the bottom line and the cold truth.

        • Ann James

Thank you, yes it an hour away….So for the most people, you must email, and make phone calls… I do understand what you are saying.. Make a different and if you can get to a government , make your voice heard….

        • David Darby

Well, Jesus is the first one I turn to for any problem. I do realize he expects us to help ourselves also, but without him I’d give up, for sure. Jesus is comforting many unemployed and helping them through this crisis, as he has comforted and aided me.

          • Carmara E Royster

I beg to differ…..I think Jesus expects us to call on him, because some things as humans, we just can’t fix on our own. Most of us can’t help ourselves which leads back to relying on him. He will do according to his own perfect will and timing. All we have to do is just trust him no matter how much we don’t understand. After all, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of the unseen, and remember, without faith, it is impossible to pleas the Lord. Let’s all continue to pray for restoration and also do what it is in our power to do and leave the rest up to God.

    • Down and out in America

Not a bad ideal! are you going to bail everyone out of jail for trespassing or disturbing the peace or unlawful assembly? because that is what would happen when was the last time something like that has happened in this country were American’s could put up a fight for what is right and WIN

    • Carmara E Royster

Have you done what your suggesting everybody else do? And, why do you assume that people haven’t done what you are suggesting?

  • mrmano_0

democrats are completely responsible.for this unemployment extension mess. Harry reid prevented the extension from being added to the budget. Democratic Senators whittled the Republican proposal down to 5 months from the 12 month months Republicans originally proposed.

Harry reid has kept millions of Americans from the help they desperately need and deserve.

That’s all Democrats that have created this misery.

    • Down and out in America

No it isn’t it is one frigging nut job John Boehner playing god all he has to do is bring the current bill up for a vote that’s it

      • DJMiles

John Boehner? Really! All he ever did was demand that since the Democrats left unemployment out of the budget deal that he would still be willing to pass a extension if it’s paid for and has a measure that creates jobs attached that’s it! Democrats refused to put forth a bill that contains those 2 simple things,Obama refused to compromise,Democrats wouldn’t attach it to the 5 must pass bills and even now the most must pass bill of the year is on the Senate floor and Democrats have blocked hellers attempt at attaching it! Their looking for a bill to attach it to because the one currently on the floor is guaranteed to pass and Democrats certainly don’t want unemployment to be passed.

      • mrmano_0

Reid and Senate Dems block attachment of EUC to tax extenders bill…nice……..demos are showing true colors..even though Demos will sign off on TE bill….

  • aaaa aa

That’s because him as well as both sides of the isle do not care about the AMERICAN people, plain and simple. When does this become an emergency to allow and executive order? Is 3 million not enough to consider this extension an emergency? What number then?
How about the fact that the unemployment numbers are fabricated.6.3 percent, more like 18-19 percent.
They like these bills to be paid for?????
Who pays for all his wifes bucket list travels?WE DO ,THAT’S WHO
As long as they are living well, they could care less about the rest

Why hasn’t the President done more to pass the unemployment extension?

      • http://rollcall.com Steven Dennis

That’s a good question. I don’t know the answer. The WH would say that the president has done a lot. He certainly mentions it in speeches and tweets. But it certainly hasn’t been a full court press or top of the agenda.

        • mrmano_0

because there is NOT an unemployment problem…the pig in the python needs to move along…data points are pre-recession….this is no different than the recession of the 70′s..cull the herd for the strength of the herd….the demos don’t want to do that..

    • DJMiles

Only question I have is why did it take so long for Roll Call to finally start writing the true story? So far all stories have been about how Republicans are to blame even tho the Democrats have done everything they possibly could to ensure the unemployment extension never got passed

      • http://rollcall.com Steven Dennis

Not sure exactly what you are referring to as the “true story.” Many stories we’ve written on this have noted that the WH has not responded to Boehner’s demand for a specific counterproposal on jobs.

You talk crazy, if you look at reid bill it clearly states that the bill he propose and was approved in the senate was to get retro from December 31,u got it backwards

    • mrmano_0

Democrats in the Senate are currently blocking a move that would attach retroactive unemployment pay to a tax cut bill. The unemployment measure would revive benefits for those whose payments ran out late last year.

Senator Dean Heller (R-Nev.) co-authored legislation that revives expired unemployment benefits and includes retroactive pay. Heller attempted to tie this legislation to another bill that would cut taxes.

    • Lil gma

        • Frank

I felt that with the attachment of the unemployment bill to the tax extender bill would have one hundred percent guaranteed that the extension would pass.
Then Reid does not attached it to the tax extender? Dirty politics. This shows that Reid does not want our bill passed. What he wants now is for us to be so angry at the Republicans that we vote them out of office. Both parties are self serving and do not give a damn about the people they were elected to represent. It is all a horse and pony show. The unemployment extension will never be passed.

    • Leonard

Why give tax cuts, the rich dont need tax cuts also thats what they planning to pay the ui with

  • leah mcdonald

I don’t understand why there is no mention of this on the news? I know fox doesn’t care but what about CNN or MSNBC? If Obama wanted the extension passed, CNN would be talking about it.

    • DJMiles

Your 100% correct just as he takes about the missing girls in Nigeria. He and the Democrats have the unemployed fooled and if CNN covered this story he would look like a idiot….

    • Carmara E Royster

True, that is a good point. They don’t report anything regarding Obama helping to get the extension passed because there is nothing to report.

  • leah mcdonald

Speaker Boehner: when you go home tonight to your warm house and big juicy steak I hope you think about all the people that are cold and hungry. Some of us are losing our homes and go days without eating because you are playing politics with our lives. Thanks for nothing.. ..

  • AdMan

Here is the job plan for Mr. Boehner; without this extension approval the remaining unemployed who are interested in finding a job CANNOT since they will not have any resources to search and will likely destroy the estimated 3 million families impacted – fact

    • Victor Sanchez

They know this but say that they will make it one way or another, and if they don’t well there are always casualties in war. As long as their objectives are met, there is nothing bad enough that can happen that they all can’t handle by working together to make go away

  • Victor Sanchez

The Senators and congress really work together very very well. All parties are working together so well that they are supposed to show the gridlock and blame each other for all the things they do not want to pass. Like a book that is written. If there is a issue such as UI Extension, they work in such unison to destroy the entire bill. There will be heroes in this chapter such as Heller and Reed who need to protected by letting them be the voice of the millions hurting. But that is their role in this part of the play, to protect them in the next election. If you look at every bill or every specific item that is important, you will see heroes and villains. They will offset the villains in other ways by giving them many other supportive or hero roles to offset the one bad role as a villain they were given. So, they really do work together, but just behind closed doors to keep their machine running. i know this to be a fact. There is no possible way that these impressive, smart, educated people cannot be working together in the bigger scheme of things. So, every item that is coming to the floor, won’t make it to the floor, filibusters, speakers not allowing this, vetoes, all the way up to Obama who has the lead in their play using the executive power to veto. It’s all predetermined to fail, approve, stall with each person in the house playing an important role in making these issues go away. APPLAUD APPLAUD APPLAUD! The best actors and hardest working people in show business. They really do work hard, just to keep their items of importance at hand.

  • Unam

no balls for anybody in the House. Even obama they are worried about 24 missing girls, instead of 3 million Americans out of work and no unemployment. Come on Washington wake up!!!!!

  • JoblessMom

Why doesn’t the president care about the countless unemployed Americans who are struggling and keep looking for jobs that are just not out there ….. We need help

  • Millie Stevens

This is pissing me off. How can they extend tax credits to corporations before helping the unemployed. They call these tax credits job creators, yet they have been receiving these since 1981. Well, where are the jobs? The media is ignoring the unemployment extension bill even though it effects over 2 million American people and their families. I really don’t think either party gives a crap about us. The corporations will get their tax breaks and everyone else is on their own. However, I will vote with a vengeance this November.

  • David Darby

This story is so true! Where are you Barack Obama? Why aren’t you fighting for the unemployed? Why aren’t you negotiating with Boehner? You said you cared about income inequality. Well, the unemployed have no income! Please do something. Step and get the bill through the House! There are 2.5 million families desperately in need of your help! Speaker Boehner, please remember we are hardworking Americans who lost our jobs and want nothing more than to work again. Please work with the President in good faith to get the bill through. Thank you.

  • Victor Sanchez

They won’t post my statement which is simply stating that this was already pre determined and they are all working together as one well oiled machine for their own benefit. These are heroes and villains that have to be played. They offset each other in every different way, but there is always a fillabuster, veto, a person who won’t let the bill get to a vote. Say what you will, we have lost all power as the people of this country. We are watching the greatest broadway show with the greatest actors in the world all working together as a well oiled machine. You would be shocked if you knew how well these members do work together behind closed doors to keep the image up of working for the people, but aren’t. There is a much bigger picture gooing on here and this is the way they continually kill things to help people. Using gridlock ploys and blaming each other. We cannot do anything about it. They are told what to do and what to destroy and how that it will be done. Spielberg couldn’t write a better dialogue and propaganda at its finest

I dont care who is responsible, democratic or republican all i care about is the bill getting signed. We dont care about the missing girls or ukraine, we are hungry we need help, we worked for it. im going to start a rally and look for ppl to join me tomorrow, enough of this website rants we are wasting out time on line, lets take it to the streets. 5months is enough.

    • Victor Sanchez

Charles I am with you but I have to tell you that I believe this is all staged to look good for certain Senators like Reed and Heller who has the highest unemployment in the states. They get to be heroes or the white knight but are nothing more than pre conceded propaganda parts they get to play to protect them in upcoming elections. These are not party problems. These are all staged parts and they work very hard to play their roles. They a all seem to have one common goal and it is not to help us as people. They will approve a 680 billion corporate tax cut but won’t help starving people in our own country. Why? No money for them to be made with giving money away. Lots of payoffs with the corporate cuts and very wealthy people to grease. We need to be able to vote on any issue as the people of this nation. If we want something to be voted on or passed, we should be able to over step these actors and vote on it. But, they would fix the vote anyways so we all lose in the long run. This was defeated 6 months ago and now theyre just playing out the drama to make it look good and we can all point fingers at each party and never pay attention to the fact that there is nothing we can do about it. They win as one big party behind closed doors. There is no such thing as a republican or democrat when they really talk business. Its just about what needs to be done, how it needs to be handled and what roles certain parties need to play. If we are always looking at them and saying its this party or person or its the fillibuster, or veto or it’s no going to be able to get to a vote because of this guy, that’s ok. That’s throwing static so they can really hide the fact that they work together so well that we are all blinded by the gridlock they make us believe is in place but isn’t nothing but fiction when you get down to the truth. Pre determined. Pre planned. Already written. It’s a play and they already have written the outcome and just need these actors to play the roles required to fulfill the outcome properly as to not make waves with their machine

  • http://baiine.com BAiiNE

Ummm but the President was able to contact Boehner and get him to agree to film that stupid Julia Louie-Dreyfuss comedic piece with Vice President Biden for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Ok I see where the priorities are for these people. The worst part about it is in the piece Boehner says to the Veep “I have to go I’m very busy right now” only to hang up and go back to watching The Discovery Channel or some crap. So to them this is clearly one big JOKE that they don’t work and don’t do anything to help the people they are elected to help.

  • Victor Sanchez

So what if these Senators are all working together. They really do get along. They have parts that each of them need to play. Some have to be villains like Bonehead in Ohio with not letting this get to a vote. They could defeat it in the vote but then there would be how many of these politicians that would have to answer to the fact that they didn’t vote for it. It plays out great with one guy basically defeating it. It allows the players of the entire machine which they all are. They all have one common goal and its whatever they are told it is. They use gridlock to fool everyone. The parties are just for the people of each party to keep each other off balance and to be parrots, just saying what they hear and are told to say. It works very well because while Republicans and Democrats are so busy pointing the fingers at each other, that’s even better when the people of our country do the same because it covers the entire machine as a whole. What if they are just great actors doing a pre conceived part to really just get nothing done for the people truly. They need us so some things have to be given to us but as a whole, the really important things like people starving and killing themselves because they cant find work, cant afford to find a job if that makes sense but is reality or any issue we deem as important. take away Republican, Democrat and what do you have. You have people under one country making decisions and not being able to blame an entire group as being the problem. The system of checks and balances is a joke. Noone checks anyone really. They make it look like they are but that’s because they have to kill certain things and need to show that there is noone really wrong but that the process is being used to its full extent which just becomes gridlock. Gridlock is used in so many ways like veto, not bringing to a vote, fillibuster and all these little stupid things that allow them to keep the heat off of the entire body of representatives. It is easier for one bad guy to take the blame than the majority who would have to vote it down and the repercussions they would have to face. There would be too much change and the machine can handle real change, just slight adjustments. I don’t care about all this political crap but if you really just look at it for what it is, its either a complete and total conspiracy, a bunch of people who are so smart and educated and they can’t get nothing done which is really not possible, or that what we are seeing is a complete failure in government. I am asking you, why are the peoples voices not being what the representatives are doing? They do what they want or what I think they are told to portray. Is this the best, most brilliant, award winning script that are written for these actors and is already a pre conceived and well thought out play? Seems that way to me. I can’t see how three million people suffering, really suffering cannot be helped and helping corporations is. It’s going to take years upon years for that to work if it works, The money and the special interests and people who benefit is immediate and the suffering, well let them eat cake, there will be casualties in war, and whatever other great lines they can use

its time to get rid of them all (senators & congressman) and lock john bonehead in room with moochelle!

  • Joseph Lucas

Looking from the perspective of one of many who has been
working for more than 3 decades, I have come to the conclusion that while
everything in the USA advanced, we are still backward in how the country treats
    workers.

When the Corporations and Banks failed, our taxpayers moneys
went to bail them out. When Bankers, investors and Lawyers cheated many
homeowners out of millions/billions-none of them saw the inside of a prison.
The companies were fined millions and that money went into the coffers of the
government. Similar pharmaceutical companies that killed millions because of
bad drugs, they paid fines and got away with murder. This seems to be the scenario
in our beloved USA-when you have money and power even prison can be avoided.

Companies in the USA according to the Supreme Court can
participate in elections, supporting their candidates who will make law in the
favor of the companies-their modus operandi is using the LOBBYIST ( a licensed
individual who can bribe legislators) , so that companies can get their way. So
it’s no wonder that companies can “hire and fire”, something you cannot do in a
“developing” country-see how backward we are. Now companies can have religious
    feelings…..what-can you believe that?

Finally, now that we –humans need help because there are no
jobs out there-the Republicans and the Democrats play with our lives using us
as a pawn-to get what they want-there is a “hidden agenda”. You give me the
Keystone Pipeline for the Oil companies and I will give you UI. No a drop of
oil is coming to the USA when we agree on the pipeline, everything comes from
Canada and sent back to Canada refined. In the process, farmers, owners of land
have to contend with the environmental problems. All this is a game that
    Congress plays.

My suggestion is that Obama for once should take a stand and
issue and executive order which he has done in the past. People are suffering,
saved retirement benefits are gone, credit card companies are pushing for their
money, and rent is due, car repairs needed, children need food and education.
Stop calling Americans and do the right thing. The “heartlessness” is
shocking-even our marines coming back are so badly treated , they have to fight

They are all liars and full of GREED! What goes around comes around and what you reap you will sew. Some many good-hard working people that are down on their luck right now and need help while trying to find work and put food on the table and gas in their cars to drive to an interview if they need to. These heartless and evil idiots don’t care for anything but power and themselves. Just a shame, but the tables will turn eventually someday and they will be the ones needing help and there will be no one there for them.

These Congressmen that oppose EUI , look down their noses at unemployed people, and imply that people are lazy and just want to sit home collecting unemployment checks. Well, these Congressmen make a ton of money, and don’t seem to do a lot of work for it. They seem to go out of recess/vacation every month, and god forbid someone should ever suggest they work over a weekend to get their agenda finished. In the meanwhile, they leave unemployed wallowing for a longer period, without funds to eat and keep their homes/cars.

  • mrmano_0

Reid and Senate Dems block attachment of EUC to tax extenders bill…nice….demos are showing true colors..even though Demos will sign off on TE bill.

  • Rick

Just more partisan nonsense, meanwhile more and more people lose their house, apartments, cars, utilities, and their ability to buy food. It is amazing how insensitive and disconnected some of these elected official are.

Getting these funds to people is an URGENT/EMERGENCY matter, just the same as getting aid to people after a major hurricane or earthquake, so they can survive until they can get their lives back together is.

I got laid-off 10 months ago, and after applying to openings for everything from skilled professional positions, to dog-walker jobs, I just finally just got a new job this week. The funny thing is, my boss at the place I got laid-off from 10 months ago, got a new job elsewhere, and so he was nice enough to call me and bring me into the new job with him in his department.

Anyway, regardless of getting a new job, I don’t start until next week, and I won’t get my first check until two weeks after that, so I am still in dire straits money wise in the short term.

I got into the such a huge hole since I lost my job, and the only reason I haven’t been evicted yet, is because my parents have helped lend me some money along the way, and because I have an understanding landlord who has tolerated me being two months behind on the rent for many months now.

I came within a hair of having my power shut off, and I did have my internet service suspended temporary. I had to sell my computer and half my furniture, just to get by, and yet I still have overdrawn bank accountants and credit cards over the limit. It’s been a nightmare.

I need this bill the pass so I can get that retroactive money, just so I can pay back all the debt I have piled up over the last nine months since my lay-off, and since my UI ran out in January.

It’s great to have landed a new job, but it’s going to take a long time to dig out of the this hole to have collectors stop hounding me, and getting the retroactive money is still vital for me right now.

I love Obama, and he’s been vocal about getting this bill passed, but now we need him to take a more proactive involvement in this. Put his pride aside and pick-up the phone and workout a deal with Boehner he you have to. Finger pointing the the GOP isn’t going to get it done, so he’s gotta show the American people he can rise approve partisan gamesmanship, and help people who desperately need a champion right now.

    • Sherry Plutakis

I couldn’t have said it better. I was out of work for 10 months as well and with no income since December, it took the same toll on me. Here’s what I don’t get. Where are these job creation bills, and if they were so great, wouldn’t it be a no brainer to pass those bills??? It’s beyond sad to read these stories. Our governments priorities are very out of alignment with what is happening out here. I went down 25% in income just to have a job. What does that tell you? It’s a crime, and they will never be punished for it.

      • Rick

True. The priorities are totally out of wack in this system, and the people at the grass roots are getting stepped on as usual.

The GOP and the DEMS are both at fault with this stuff. I don’t even care anymore about laying this on any specific person, and they need to work it out.

Obama needs to be more proactive in this, and not just make public comments. He need and step-up and Champion this cause in the trenches.

Pick up the phone and call Boehner, and work something out something where both sides save face and it’s a win/win all around – most especially for the people who actually need this money.

Give something up. I don’t care what. The immediate need is too great to too many people, to let things like pride and partisan gamesmanship get in the way.

  • jh443

Why should politicians care about the unemployed? It’s not as if we’re likely to be making campaign contributions.

    • Nemesis4Life

LOL…I so agree! I signed a petition awhile back to reinstate euc. Apparently doing that signed me up to the Democratic party emails. I even get emails from the President and first lady…lol They all ask me for contributions to their party. I’m like seriously? Let me go sell a kidney so I can contribute to you to not do anything for me? I’m sure it’s the same for Republicans as well. Who is going to give me money to pay my bills? I just laugh.

  • Cynthia Dobbins

What Boehner wants is for Obama to clear the Boehner/Koch brothers XL Pipeline so he can line his pockets with dirty money. If he doesn’t get the ok for the pipeline then emergency unemployment is going to lapse at the end of the month. Boehner has made this his plan for sometime now. There is a boycott of the Koch brothers products and services which can be seen at:

    http://kochwatch.org/?q=node/28

    • Rick

It’s sad that American people in desperate need, are made pawns in these partisan games and Capital Hill corruptions. That said, I for one don’t care what they have to do to get a deal done, I just want it done now. Whatever ill effects of these other bills/issues, won’t be felt for years down the road, but EUI is an immediate need, and they need to realize that.

Well, I think our system, even with all it’s checks and balances, is flawed, when any one member of Congress, can block an bill/issue from even coming to the floor and being voted on.

  • Gary Camden

President Obama- You are the only one we can really appeal to as it seems no one else can. wants or has the ability to negotiate with with Senator Boehner. Sir, you have the ability to get the Unemployment bill to the House and passed. As you said last week you would veto all tax cuts until the Unemployment bill was passed. So, and as it does daily, the ultimate responsibility lies with you. Use your power and to do what is right. It will only hurt for a bit, and I promise you come mid term it will make a difference. PLEASE DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND SUPPORT THE WORKING CLASS PEOPLE OF AMERICA! Other wise we will go the way of all the other people in shelters and on the street.

Why don’t all unemployed ban together & on Monday may 19th when these lazy good for nothing officials come back from yet another break, we all go down to our local unemployment office & line up. If hundreds of people in each & every city from the west coast to the east coast assemble at there local unemployment office, the media would surely show up. One spokesperson in each city can tell it like it is, now these deadbeat politicians can’t hide from what’s happening! If the unemployed do not ban together quickly we are dead in the water, because Washington & our loser President just don’t care! Back in 2008 when our wonderful leader campaigned for his current office the slogan was change, end the gridlock in Washington! what a joke! He has done nothing!!!!!!!!!! but screw the next three generations including us! The Republicans & the Democrats are all LIARS!!!!!!!!!! We will never get rid of these losers until they die off or we as tax payers quit paying……….We need a change alright & it is not going to happen with the likes of Harry Reid, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, these guys are your ENEMY…………..Praying to god is not going to help anyone, spread the word on all of these discussion boards , Monday May 19th line up at 9 am @ your local unemployment office, again the more the merrier & you can bet the media will have to cover it! Lets get the word out.

I wish they could understand the people that are out there in the need of this extension….I’m 61 years old and no one wants to hire me….my whole life is falling to pieces. I can’t make it with out this extension. If he was in my shoes he would be crying all the way to the White House…..Please someone please help us…..So help you God….my lord!

    • Annita Davis

I’m all out of hope too. I’m 55 and have always had a job, sometimes 3 at a time. In the past as a single mother of 2, I never asked for anything. I worked 2 jobs, grew a garden and canned everything all summer long. We picked berries and gleaned potato fields etc….. back then I could easily find a job. Now I can’t. And those in power just continue to play with ours lives. Pointing fingers, arguing, each blaming the other. They’re all playing their part in the game of power, politics and privilege. If we could form our own socialistic country or a huge corporation then we could get money. I guess none of us should have EVER worked and played by the rules. Seems to me the generational welfare recipients are doing pretty good. We’re controlled by narcissistic millionaires who just exist in the DC bubble. The only thing I still hope is that Karma is real and it works!! I hope they understand someday how awful and useless this economy makes me feel. I give up waiting on these inhuman demon basta#$s to do anything that doesn’t benefit them!!!! A pox on both houses

    • Carmara E Royster

YOU WILL MAKE IT! Please don’t give up hope in Christ. It’s obvious that there is no hope in this world; but there is still hope. If you believe in God, then believe his Word. He promised to care for his people and I know he will no matter what it looks like now. Fear comes when there is no faith. Replace that fear with faith in the one who is in control. I know its hard to believe in things in the midst of a storm, but that is why you must never go by what you see, what you hear, or what you feel; instead go by every word of God, because he honors his word. Amen.

I sent this open letter to the president and the leaders in the house and senate:

    Dear Mr. President,

I must admit I am completely confused by the focus of my government. I have been unemployed for a year after working in the tech industry. During my job search daily, I also tend to watch C-SPAN. What frustrates me the most is the complete waste of tax payer money given to individuals (Senate & House) voted in to work for the people of America.

To me it seems both sides are working in collaboration for special interests and not dedicating to their oath. You then see constant vacations with no effort to pass needed bills to better the people. There is no compromise… There is no cohesive call to action to make things better for the people that pay into this process. Simply watching this atmosphere frightens me deeply.

As you know there are over 3 Million American people suffering by no fault of their own. To us it seems the White House, The Senate, and The House could care less about us, our pasts and inevitably our futures. The impact of your (The Government) decisions are effecting us on a detrimental scale more so than I think you may be aware. To give you an idea of this impact is as followed.

At this point I am staying with my aunt rent free thank god as I would not know where I would be if she did not open up her home. The contents of my life are now in storage which will now be seized and sold off because I can no longer afford to pay. I have no car or bus money leaving me stranded to seek out and travel to potential employment opportunities which are few. I can no longer wash my clothes and or even purchase cleaning supplies like toothpaste or deodorant. I can no longer afford to pay into online job search websites which offer more in-depth opportunities when you pay into their services. I no longer have a dedicated phone to use for potential interview contact. I don’t even have the ability to move to a different state to take advantage of job opportunities. In essence I am stuck…

To add insult to injury the ONLY benefit that I can receive at this point is a total of $189 food stamps per month. Breaking down to about $6.30 a day for food. So not only am I not able to stay clean or nourished but I am also unable to actively travel to find employment. So for me personally watching people make 6 figures in our government spending money that go to others that make 6 figures or more is pretty infuriating. Watching Tax Cuts for the wealthy breeze through or Aid for other countries take no time hitting your desk while simple bills to help the people of this nation collect dust only makes for a growing disdain for the process.

To me at this point it is obvious the two parties are playing a game with each other. The sad part is I am not sure you guys are aware of the lives your decisions or lack thereof are effecting. Desperate times WILL bring about desperate measures. The games need to end… I need you to call The Speaker and give him what he wants to get this unemployment bill passed. I then expect you to work with the senate and house on a permanent fix to the benefit extension. Please do not lose touch with the priority here… It is the American People.

I don’t see it in you, the senate or the house. You guys can do so much better than you are. At this point I am extremely disappointed in all of you.

I have my own personal troll that spreads Republican lies and propaganda.
Why? Because the right cannot be honest with the American people and reveal their true agenda.

I suppose I’ve been chosen because I am outraged at the the right and the Republicans for their utter disregard of the American people. All the Republicans have done is try to cut regulations and taxes and call it trickle down.

Why won’t the Republican House pass the President’s American Jobs Act?

Why have Republicans wasted so much tax payers money trying to repeal the ACA when its clearly what Americans want.

Why oh why are Republicans wasting more time and money on Benghazi investigations, and they didn’t spend any time on the magical WMD’s that where never found.

Republicans have held the long term unemployed hostage for the dirty and dangerous Keystone XL and continue to use dirty tricks that harm millions of American families.

The Republican party is Americas greatest threat foreign or domestic.

Screw Boehner and his tax cuts for the wealthy and big businesses. Without the Koch brothers support he would crumble. Without those tax cuts the republican party will suffer greatly and eventually justice will prevail.

I have been forced to live with my parents now. How does someone start over at the age of 52? I am going to school to better myself but I can’t even find a part time job!!! WTF this government stinks and they all need to go!!!!

  • Yonatan YONATAN

WHEN WILL THE GOVERNMENT FINALLY TAKE ACTION? The Republican Party has continued their war on the poor of our country. There are more than 2.6 Million Unemployed Workers, with families, who have been denied an extension of their unemployment benefits since last December. This has been the first time that an extension of benefits were not passed since it’s inception. The Republican Senate has been holding the Bill “Hostage”, in order to have the Koch Brother’s XL Oil Pipeline Bill passed in return for their vote. They have been using these unfortunate families as bargaining chips, and for political leverage, not caring about the damage and suffering caused to these families. Since late last December, many families have faced eviction, home foreclosures, personal bankruptcy, and homelessness. It’s been reported that many of these families have had to live out of their vehicles, and in shelters, and have to rely on food banks to eat. In a country where just recently a foreign aid bill for the Ukraine worth Billions of tax payer’s dollars had been passed., these families are left hung out to dry. It’s sad that people who have worked all their lives, and paying into the system, would find the system not there for them, when they so desperately need it. More than 2.6 million unemployed families are losing their homes and everything, while the politicians continue to play party politics. The politicians are the only winners in this situation, because they have jobs and healthcare, and retirement plans. The coming elections will be the opportunity for all Americans who have suffered because of these political party’s, to make big changes. We will not forget how we were left without unemployment benefits and left in financial ruin.

    • DJMiles

No we certainly will not forget that the Democrats used this entire year to do nothing but force Republicans to oppose every issue…It’s amazing how over 200 bills were passed last year and all of a sudden not 1 could get passed in the Senate. ..I wonder if it has anything to do with the strategy of not actually passing any bills but forcing Republicans to oppose everything. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/26/us/politics/democrats-as-part-of-midterm-strategy-to-schedule-votes-on-pocketbook-issues.html?referrer=

J.B. was discharged during the Vietnam war in 8 weeks because of a bad back so right out of basic training. All you unemployed veterans take notice. Please let him know how happy that he sliped slided Vietnam.
On January 1, 2013, after passing the fiscal cliff deal, Boehner adjourned the house without passing the $60 million Hurricane Sandy relief bill. Some Representatives, especially from the Northeast and including Republicans as well as Democrats, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie harshly criticized Boehner

  • Always Vigilant

Like spoiled children, Harry Reid and Senate democrats stubbornly refused to negotiate.

    • Down and out in America

And why should he the senate has done there jobs and passed the bill and sent it to the house now the sole responsibility is on the speaker of the house John Boehner to bring this bill up for a vote Period!

  • Down and out in America

The bottom line is that the senate has already passed the unemployment benefits extension and passed It to the house!

Nothing has changed it is still on John Boehner’s desk and he wont bring it up for a vote because HE wants something for bringing it up for a vote!

Who cares what HE wants this isn’t about him and or his wants it is about bringing the damb bill up for a vote and see if it passes. that’s what the American people want!

It is not about ill give u this if I can have that as they are trying to make the American people think because we all know that it would pass if it were to be brought up for a vote

So why doesn’t John Boehner bring this bill up for a vote and work on his own agenda without holding American family’s in crisis hostage to his wants and ideal’s?

To the American Family’s it is as simple as just bringing the bill up for a vote and move on Period you all can argue later about all the other agendas.

Doesn’t John Boehner realize that if he would just bring the bill up for a vote and if it passes or doesn’t pass he would look like a savior to a lot of Americans ?

The United State Government choice of failure is not supposed to be an option. Not helping the American people by not extending E.U.C benefits is failure! The House of Representative are doing a poor job!

Pass HR 1579 the “Inclusive Prosperity Act of 2013″. This will easily cut the deficit in half by imposing a financial transaction tax on wall street speculative stock trading.

ITS NOT A SURPRISED THAT PEOPLE ARE BEGINING TO VOICE THEIR ANGER AT THE REPUBLICAN SENATE, AND AT SENATOR JOHN BOEHNER IN PARTICULAR, FOR THEIR TOTAL FAILURE TO DO THE “RIGHT & MORAL” THING, AND PASS THE UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION BILL FOR THESE 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES WITHOUT BENEFITS. SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER, THE REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN HOLDING THE EXTENSION BILL “HOSTAGE” IN THE SENATE FOR POLITICAL LEVERAGE. THEY HAVE MADE DELAY AFTER DELAY, DRAGGING THEIR FEET, WHILE FAMILLIES WERE BEING DESTROYED FINANCIALLY, MANY BECOMING HOMELESS IN THE PROCESS. THE REPUBLICANS HAVE USED THESE FAMILIES AS BARGAINING CHIPS, IN ORDER TO GET THE KOCH BROTHER’S OIL PIPE LINE APPROVED IN RETURN. THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WORKER, THEY GIVE THEIR LOYALITY TO THE UPPER ONE PERCENT IN THE COUNTRY, NOT TO THE 99 PERCENT WHO DO MOST OF THE WORKING AND TAX PAYING. I’M SURPTEISED THAT PEOPLE HAVEN’T STARTED PROTESTING IN THE STREET ABOUT THIS. I KNOW THAT THE REPUBLICANS HAVE WASTED ONY CHANCE OF WINNING THE NEXT ELECTIONS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE.

  • mrmano_0

Republicans are responsible for this slap in the face of the American middle class.
Republicans have called us lazy and takers but have forgotten we’re voters.

The Republican party is America’s greatest threat foreign or domestic.

If Obama can do this he will have a new loyal fan!!

The big house should be in our shoes for a month and see how they can feed themself and there family. Or pay there bills. They cant. They don’t care about us. They only care about themself. They don’t care if we eat or we pay our bills. If they really care they would extend the unemployment.

  • tomasbengurion@yahoo.com

why Obama has to ask him for that? he is a public server,he knows the unemployed American need that extension,he has to convince the Congress, and the Congress should know already what the unemployed American need period.

  • tomasbengurion@yahoo.com

they all living the Dulce Vita, with money and all benefits and the American People strangling to survive? please Mr. Boehner and the rest of your Congress, the American People need that extension or they all will get crazy, you have no idea how crazy could get a country when it gets hungry,Mr. Boehner with that money you spend in a suit you could feed 10 American Families today,be smart and consider your fellow citizens.

  • Unemployed Grandma

I am 49 years old and have had 24 years of uninterrupted employment. The past 16 years I have worked for my local government (County) in a Management position. Due to a domestic violence attack last year, I was forced to leave my job and move to another area and filed for unemployment for the 1st time in my life and after 5 months my state benefit 26 week allowance were finished. I was approved for the extension and have not received any money since the budget was suspended. I have been actively seeking employment, been to several interviews and have found that I am overqualified by the employers standards. I made over $65,000 per year for the past 13 years (however my ex has taken all our savings and assets one day before I got home from work which will be resolved in the divorce) and when I went to EDD for assistance, they told me they were sorry and referred me to the Welfare Department. I have never had to apply for welfare in my life even while raising my 4 children and now I am receiving other Federal Subsidies to help me. This is such a shame. I am very employable, attractive, and looking for any work I can find. I am now homeless living with my mother and receiving food stamps.

Now that they are delaying, after June 1, my extension will expire and I will have to start from square one. Guess what, I have already been told that since I do not have any work history in the past 12 months, I am not eligible. Go figure. Where did all my unemployment benefits go from all my years of working ????? Whats the point.

  • satoshi

ue Grandma below i listed . $235,000 per year j.b., phone numbers. I ask even if it is fruitess to call those numbers and you know what when your awake a t 3 a.m. in the morn stressed on bills dial your freindly local $165 k a year represntative you know. when you call it probably all automated voice mail outsourced to india. Also go to wikipedia and read up on the j.b. . questions to ask jb.
1.) so jb when you sent $1billion 300 million to those 2 foreign countries in the last 2 months….
..2.) what is the number of evicted americans that unemployment timed out.
#3 good question u.e. Grandma, the benefits taken from your employers pocket on behalf of the employee goes into a slush pool so the larger it grows as more people get working creating a SURPLUS if withdrawls are less than income. Anyone care to guess where the SURPLUS IF ANY, GOES. Ask the 1% or the senator

  • satoshi

can anyone answer why the mainstream media refuses to talk about L.t.u.e loosing apts and cars etc???/

  • Jeannie

DEAR GOD PLEASE GIVE BOEHNER A HEART. I DO NOT KNOW HOW ELSE TO PUT IT, I AM A SINGLE MOM OF 2 CHILDREN, AND I CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP AT NIGHT BECAUSE I WISH THAT THE UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION WOULD BE PASSES SO THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO FEED MY CHILDREN A REALLY NICE MEAL. THEY EAT PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES EVERYDAY, FOR LUNCH AND SUPPER, AND ONCE A WEEK I AM ABLE TO GIVE THEM MAC AND CHEESE. I JUST FEEL THAT INSTEAD OF HELPING OUT OTHER COUNTRIES IT WOULD BE NICE IF HE WOULD PUT HIS OWN COUNTRY “THE USA” FIRST AND LOOK AROUND AND SEE ALL OF THE PAIN HE IS CAUSING US ESPECIALLY THE CHILDREN. I SIT ON MY COMPUTER ALL DAY APPLYING FOR JOBS 7 DAYS A WEEK AND JOBS THAT I USED TO BE QUALIFIED FOR I NOW WOULD HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL FOR AND THAT WOULD BE GREAT TO DO IF I HAD THE MONEY TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL, BUT AS YOU CAN ALL SEE THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF BOEHNER. SO AS A SINGLE MOM OF 2 CHILDREN I AM ASKING GOD TO FIND A HEART IN BOEHNER AND HAVE HIM PLEASE PASS THE EXTENSION FOR US AND ESPECIALLY FOR OUR CHILDREN.

  • Yonatan YONATAN

THE WHITE HOUSE AND THE SENATE HAVE FAILIED THESE MILLIONS OF FAMILIES MISERABLY. WITH EACH BLAMING THE OTHER FOR NOT DOING ENOUGH TO PASS THE EXTENSION BILL, THE SAD TRUTH IS THAT THEY NEVER TRULY CARED ENOUGH ABOUT PASSING IT FROM THE VERY START. THIS ALL ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE IN-FIGHTING AND PARTY POLITICS THAT HAVE BEEN GOING ON TO THE MISFORTUNE OF THE 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES LEFT HUNG OUT TO DRY, MANY WHO HAVE SINCE BEEN FINANCIALLY DESTROYED IN THE PROCESS. THESE POLITICIANS DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF THE 99 PERCENTERS IN THIS COUNTRY, BUT RATHER FOR THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS AND BIG CORPORATIONS, AND THEIR OWN PERSONAL WELL BEING. AMERICANS HAVE NO ONE REPRESENTING THEIR INTEREST ANY LONGER. SHAME ON THESE BOTH PARTIES FOR THEIR LACK OF ACTION AND COMPASSION FOR THEIR FELLOW AMERICANS IN NEED. AMERICA NEEDS A REVOLUTION AGAIN TO CHANGE THE COURSE OF WHERE WE’RE GOING. THIS COMING ELECTION WILL BE THE 99 PERCENTERS OPPORTUNITY TO VOTE THESE POLITICAL LIFERS OUT OF THEIR CUSHY JOBS.

  • bert sanfin

I personally believe Boehner gets some sort of sick thrill when he hears about all the lives he has ruined. But no one in the government really put up a fight for us. The legislators have become multimillionairs from snatching money from our pockets

  • suzy

Thank you Obama for letting us down.Boehner I hope you rot in hell you rotten bastard. At this point I am ashamed to say that I am an American.Keep sending money to other countries I am sure they will try to attack us oneday.I would like to know where has all theoney gone from where people worked for numerous years and only collected so much, whose pocket. Obama has time to talk to Kelly and.Michael but no time to pickup a phone to help his American citizens, who helped him by voting when he needed help. All scumbags

  • Mark Harper

Fire Boehner fire all gop today limit their terms in office deny them unemployment for life they suffer no consequences so can do whatever they please stop them .

  • John Carmiche

obama can sign an exc order he signs them for everything else

  • Sharon Schacklinscky McGreevy

John Boehner wants President Barack Obama to call him to give him with a proposal or idea since Boehner has no clue for a proposal for job creations on his own. If the President were to call Boehner, then I feel Boehner would reject any proposal the President might suggest. That is plain vindictiveness.

The House of Representatives has to come up with their own proposal(s) to the passed Senate bill or vote on it as is. That is their job; not the the President’s! The President doesn’t have to work on the bill: he is the Executive branch of US Government. The Legislative branch of US Government needs to pass this bill. The Senate already has with a bi-partisan approval vote. Now the House led by the Speaker of the House needs to do their job. Then the President can sign it to law. Where are the so called “checks and balances” in our government?

Does Boehner think he is more powerful than the President?

Yes, I think God is our only hope to intercede when ONE man thinks he is playing God with 3,000,000+ lives of the long term unemployed by not allowing a Senate passed bill to come to the House voting floor..

  • David

Boehner should face a firing squad for the harm he has done to good American citizens and for the damage he has done to our economy. It would do my heart some good to watch him die a slow painful death.

  • David

This country needs another civil war to put it back on the right path. Crooked politicans like Boehner have ruined what others befoire him worked so hard to make sure that we the people would be protected from these scandals. There is no transparency in our government bit there is corruption. Boehner should be publically executed for all to watch, hell … I would pay to watch that gladly.

  • David

Maybe we should just turn over the country to the Koch brothers … WTF they seem to run everything. Boehner can’t go to the bathroom without confirming it with them first. The good thing is he can’t get the Boehner/Koch Keystone XL pipeline approved and the Koch brothers are not happy with Boehner right now. Soon they will find another front man to do their dirty work.

  • David

Read quotes from Thomas Jefferson today and it is amazing how he tried to protect us from idiots like Boehner. He could forecast that men like Boehner would take full advantage of their positions and steal and cheat the people they are supposed to be serving.

Why isn’t President Obama doing anything to help the 3 million unemployed get their extended benefits. So many families are suffering. Why isn’t he doing anything to get Congress to pass this desperate need of help?
