Obama ‘Hasn’t Given Up’ on Unemployment Extension

unemployment052914 445x296 Obama Hasnt Given Up on Unemployment Extension

Rep. David Cicilline has posted his “Faces of the Unemployed” project on the wall outside of his office, part of the Democrats’ push for a renewal of unemployment benefits. (Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call)

President Barack Obama “hasn’t given up” on an unemployment extension, Press Secretary Jay Carney said Thursday, even though a five-month bill is about to expire without action in the House.

Asked what the unemployed should think, Carney said they don’t have many friends in House Republican leadership. He said it’s a “shame” that the GOP hasn’t acted to extend the benefits. He also noted that Republicans supported an unemployment benefits extension under President George W. Bush when conditions were better than they are today.

Carney said the president is still calling on Congress to pass an extension and “hopes they do.”

At last check, however, Obama had not picked up the phone to call Speaker John A. Boehner to ask him what it would take to put a bill on the floor.

Nor has he threatened to veto any Republican priorities in return for an unemployment extension, or offer to back any of their priorities as part of a deal.

Such bull Obama and the Democrats have no interest in pushing this to go through either. Republicans are taking the heat and with elections coming up in November the Democrats are enjoying the republicans getting the heat. Obama has done nothing and Democrats in the house and senate are giving little speeches but no action. Both parties are to blame and when elections come I will be voting against the people in office right now republican or democrat. We need to send a message to government either work together like adults or go home.

    • cocerned

Shifting blame isn’t going to help the ball is in bone heads court and it has been. At first boehner said we’re lazy and the bill must be paid for, well they got it paid for and came up with a bipartisan bill and he still came with excuses it is what it is Republicans do not care about you if you’re not making millions of dollars each year and if you are a Republican and not making that much they don’t even know you exist , they really don’t want to help us they just want to give tax breaks to large corporations people that already have money not struggling ordinary folks like you and me that’s it in a nutshell

      • biggin

yep the house has already came up with a tax break bill but don’t give a dam about the unemployment bill

      • DJMiles

Democrats are completely to blame. …Boehner said since December when the Democrats decided to not include unemployment in the budget that any proposal would have to cone with 1 of the 45 jobs bills attached….They refused to attach 1 of the 45 house passed jobs bills or come up with 1 of their own so really what did we expect Boehner was going to do?

        • FedUpInNJ

BS! Republicans got what they asked for every time. Every time they got what they asked for they asked for something else. Boehner has ruined the Republican party with his obstruction of this bill for no good reason. Dems aren’t blamesless but it is NO ONE EXCEPT REPUBLICANS who won’t bring this bill to the floor for a fair vote, that is more than obvious to ANYONE who follows the news.

          • DJMiles

Could you tell me what jobs bill was attached?

        • cocerned

The bill has been passed before without the bells and whistles ask yourself why not now dig deep now you’ll figure it out

          • DJMiles

I’ve followed it since December so I know exactly why not now….The day Obama stated the he won’t insist on a unemployment extension in the budget deal was really him saying EUC is ending…After the budget deal was passed with no unemployment extension included and Democrats began saying they were going to author a bill to extend unemployment is when John Boehner stated that tho the Democrats left it out of the budget he is still willing to entertain a unemployment extension providing they make cuts elsewhere to pay for it and finally allow vote on 1 of the 45 jobs bills that Harry Reid refuses to bring to the floor! It could not be more clear that Obama and the Democrats wanted to end unemployment but not take the blame for it or they would have done 1 of a dozen things like attach 1 of the house passed jobs bills, created their own jobs bill, listed what jobs bills the white house would accept for the house to attach as requested by Boehner or they could have attached the unemployment extension to 1 of the must pass bills like Doc fix or Omnibus or 1 of the Republican priority bills like the farm bill….your just on here trying to take advantage of people and convince them to vote against Republicans you should find something to do with your life instead

    • Rick

      Bingo !

    • AdMan

Agree! The last time I looked the definition of a leader is someone who brings everyone together to accomplish goals that could not be done as individuals and not to polarize everyone for your own (party/friends/financial backer) gains. Regardless of the many, many issues where Mr. Obama has fallen and continues to fall short, the fact that he cannot unite anyone makes him the worst leader in history

      • Michael Gruber

they said in his first week they would NOT work with him 5 years ago

        • FedUpInNJ

Who the hell are they to say they won’t work with anyone? Republicans are out of control with corporate backed power. I will NEVER vote Republican again. Sorry Republicans are racists, its shameful.

          • mrmano_0

Out of the Top 10 political donors….your so called “corporate backed power”…the Demos have 8..led by Rupert Murdoch and George Soros….both own the media world…the Koch Brothers are not in the Top10…your ideology is factless…Please educate yourself…..we’re all very tired of your stupid rants….humored….but…tired..

        • AdMan

Was this said to the press or during one of the many, many meetings that Mr. Obama refused to attend. Given that Mr. Obama often doesn’t even brief with his staff regularly which leads me to believe that he’s busy doing things. Fact is he is the president and leader whether he likes it or not the country follows his lead (or lack there of) until he is out of office which can’t get here fast enough. Mr. Obama never had a plan nor does he know what a good plan looks like. As he leaves he can also take “Obamacare” with him.

      • FedUpInNJ

Hardly the worst leader ever…. You have to give that to George W and his illusions of weapons of mass destruction that cost American soldiers their lives, he was the worst president in history.

        • AdMan

Leader’s take on responsibility for the entire team NOT blame everyone (past, present and I suspect future) for things not working. Non-compromise and solo approach were Mr. Obama’s attitude/actions from day one and now 5 years or so later he’s discovering the repercussions of what he essentially sowed. Worst will be the most kind word associated with him. As an aside if you look at Iraq vs Afghanistan the numbers of US killed are 4,488 vs 2229 with some slight overlap. Point being that I’m certain Mr. Obama could have saved the lives of our soldiers if he had removed our troops 5 years ago and not when he will be leaving office in 2015.

    • TJ

This is the stupidity that got us in this mess in the first place. Republicans pretended for months that it was “both” sides when it was really just them. All of those months people should have been putting pressure on the Republicans instead idiots who don’t know what they’re talking about blamed democrats 100 percent of whom voted for the extension. You don’t have benefits because the Republican Party took them away and doesn’t want to give them back. It is not complicated. It is not both sides fault. If you want to do something get out and get republicans out of office.

      • DJMiles

Do you realize that the unemployment extension the Senate passed was authored by 5 RRepublicans on March 9th after they got tired of the games Democrats were playing ?

        • FedUpInNJ

Portman helped write thelatest bill and then refused to support it? What the hell?!

          • DJMiles

I don’t know where you people get your info from but listen how stupid you sound…. 5 Republicans sponsored the unemployment extension and Portman was 1 of them do you really think he voted against a bill he sponsored?

  • LaughingLion

Yawn . . . heard it all before. That’s all I have to say for now. We’ll see what happens when the House and Senate get back.

    • satoshi n.

LL ya they are debating giving $80 billion to corporations in form of tax breaks you are an ………………..

  • Jazzy

Obama if your administration does one thing right this year it will be to renew ui. We’ve waited 5 months for a simple yes or no, and in that amount of time our bank accounts have been completely depleted. our egos completely deflated, our cars and homes repossessed, our pets into shelters, and our children OUR CHILDREN have missed out a decent meal, EASTER, mothers day.

EUC folks simply woke up one morning, and without their knowledge, the benefits they were entitled to were stripped away in the night. These EUC benefits had been going on for over 8 years! And not to mention now the economy is worse than it has been in anytime over those previous 8 years.

GOP made media yesterday for cutting nutrition out of school lunches. This is what your GOP is working on, screwing our kids out of healthy food. Then GOP gets more media yesterday, asking people to donate to food shelters, come to find out that its another opportunity for business owners to get more tax breaks.

    • LaughingLion

Let’s see? Republicans are for sugary Cokes in the school lunch room and Koch Brothers fund their party . . . the Republicans are for oil and grease in the school’s food and oil in the XL Keystone Pipeline (and subsequently in some farmers field when they leak) . . . and finally, they are “for the American People” as long as you’re one of the One Percenters. Ironic and stupid.

Mr. President, why can Congress NOT mess with school lunches yet you and your Party allow them to screw over million of the Long Term Unemployed?

    • Rosie Serrano

      So true……..

  • Tom Robertson

In other words he is full of sh_t.

What a bunch of useless, cruel clowns masquerading as Our representatives. Both sides of the isle are in turn maddening and just plain sick-making!

  • Malik Wilson

The biggest problem is not what the president has not done…it’s what congress has not done. What they have forgotten is that we are not asking for a hand out…just a hand up. We paid into this country with our taxes and whatever else they decided to take out of our pay checks. It’s really hard to find jobs in this era…even though I’m back in school to better educate myself…it’s all long term…WE NEED HELP NOW. we are on the brink of complete distraction. Our families need the aid that is promised. Our forefather sought justice when they stood up against Taxation without representation…now we must do the same…what a shame that in all of the years since the signing of the constitution that we are yet faced with those same dilemmas….our taxes has failed to by us any Representation…

    Still suffering…

  • mary musso

How could Obama present his approval of EUC at the State of the Union Address and even have a woman speak on behalf of the two million people effected by the loss of these benefits…..his words…”Give them back their money”. And now he does a big fat NOTHING! I am so disgusted by this. I am one of those people effected…..I can’t fix my car and even if I could I have no gas money. I am going to be evicted from my apartment and because I am not disabled, 63 or have an income….I can’t get into any low income housing. And I am 58 and worked since 16 non-stop until last year. How can the President live with himself knowing he is letting this happen….how?

    • Michael Gruber

      they wont work with him

      • FedUpInNJ

        Republicans are racists.

        • mrmano_0

          links???…BTW…Obama is the biggest racist

  • Thomas Wise

The unemployed are partly to blame for no extension. You all(I’m employed) have just sit back and posted on blogs that the gvmnt couldn’t care less about instead of protesting and being seen in public. Where were the protests at the local unemployment offices or local news stations? That would have gotten more results than typing on a blog or sending congress e-mails.

    • Bottle of blue

I agree Thomas. Protest and riots would get things done a lot faster. The only thing the unemployed have done to take action is start a petition to send to the white house. Needless to say that did nothing.

      • deebee1847

In California you don’t go to an unemployment office….everything is done on line…..don’t have any addresses here in San Diego for a protest…..and as most have said before. No money for gas, carfare etc.

      • biggin

I guess if we get arrested for protesting and rioting we will have 3 hots and a cot

        • jack dee

Actually it would cost the government more to put us in jail than grant us the unemployment but these 2 have such “good” ideas about what to do lets all go out ruin our records get arrested lose any chance of claiming unemployment because once arrested you cannot seek work while in jail hence violating the requirements and then if we get called for a job they ask well what were you arrested for “oh I rioted against the government” your hired we need a person like you who would invoke riots or strikes yes such “good” ideas

      • jack dee

ok both of you are quite funny have you heard about occupy wall street? there is no such thing as having the right of assembly anymore so let me get this right it is our fault that the appointed government that is supposed to be for the people isn’t doing its job? it is our fault that congress takes more weeks off this year than any year prior? its our fault that it will take RIOTS to mame them do whats right? and this is all because we refuse to go out riot and get arrested which by the way I am sure you 2 who seem so educated have realized will not only stop all claims we might be able to make for unemployment but will be on our record WHICH WILL STOP US FROM GETTING JOBS do us a favor if your employed be thankful and until you have an actual clue silence is golden be golden.

        • Thomas Wise

I said nothing about rioting, there is nothing wrong with holding a sign for the public to read, the majority of people know nothing about your all’s plight because it’s being hidden. Get out and show yourselves. BE SEEN BY THE MASSES. last I looked peaceful protest’s are legal…

    • LaughingLion

      1. Contacted my Congressman. Got a form e-mail about the “travesty” of Benghazi and his support for the Ukrainian people.
      2. Contacted the local media. It’s a national news story, they don’t cover those.
3 Contacted the national media. It’s really just a local story, we don’t cover those.
      4. Have to save whatever precious gas I have in my car in case I am called for an interview . . . which is not happening.
      But thanks for your concern,

    • satoshi n.

tw if you protest you will be jailed that’s the American way. Just look at the storm troopers mcdonalds annual meeting called in with riot gear that the peaceful minimum earners asking for a raise

    • mark

      get arrested Police are ready

    • FedUpInNJ

I made an appointment and sat down with my Senate reps, they are for the extension. Don’t worry Thomas you WILL be seeing the riots soon but before that you will watch the economy spin out of control again.

  • mrmano_0

Hardee HA Har Ha…send a lackey out delivering a message from President???…50 bucks says carney made it up on the fly…that’s it!!…that’s it from the president??!!….man o man….given Obama’s track record, I think he has given up on EUC…cool…everyone back to work…have you seen the initial claims figure?….heck…the unemployed were the butt of his jokes…what do you expect!!!..

Are only hope is Obama or god.

  • Nick

Wow! maybe he will send another TWEET!

  • ali reza

The real problem is that people who have jobs are not worried about those who don’t and cannot imagine or care if they be in the same situation. So the jobless are a small minority at any given time, they have no lobby, no money and are neglected. The true blame lies with people with jobs.

    • Frank

Maybe the 35000 people who are working for Hewlett Packard who are about to be laid off will have a change of opinion. They have to walk a mile in our shoes to understand.

    • Thomas Wise

I have a job and I DO care about family’s suffering at the hands of our corrupted government. But sitting back and hoping for a solution as you well know get’s you nowhere. It’s time to shame the politician’s don’t you think?

  • biggin

Kinda late don’t ya think Mr. President ?

    • cocerned

You guys know the president can’t do anything without the house right? And if he does they will call him a dictator and anything they can think of and guest what, we all will fall in that trap of down grading the president because it’s already going on

      • Minnie

Not only that, I believe that the President does not want to get in the habit of swapping things. Like he said sometime last week, we are not trade horses. And that is why Boehner wanted the President to give him a call, so that Boehner can get what he wants, and the President the UE. Boehner wants the Keyline xl pipeline. Had he gotten that bill passed, things would be different for us today. That is how these people do business in the white house. They do not do things because its the right thing to do and they care for the American people; they only care about what they are getting in return. A lot of the congressmen are bought by wealthy corporates in America. Wealthy corporates tell them what to pass and not to pass. They are corrupted and greedy. They prefer to give the wealthy tax breaks and the unemployed NADA. That’s the way the cookie crumbles with those old farts in Congress.

        • mrmano_0

Obama’s strategy is to do nothing…he thinks its better than doing anything…..

      • biggin

I believe Boehner is being a dictator what’s the difference? I will tell you the difference. The difference is that Boehner is a Republican, Republicans can do what ever they want like screw over 3 million plus Americans, but let a Democrat try to help those 3 million plus Americans and they will have hell to pay. That doesn’t seem right to me…

  • brunsk42

So if economy is recovering as Obama claims why do we need to keep extending unemployment benefits?? Does this mean there are no jobs for the millions of americans out of work?? Then we shouldn’t be talking about immigration reform….I.E. lowering of American wages.. Obama isn’t going to be happy until our wages equal that of kenyas….

    • Michelle Wright

and if the economy is recovering no need for more corporate tax breaks !!!!

    • Frank

I agree but I believe that the Republicans are trying to lower the wage of the middle class. I have thought this even before I lost my job. It is a world economy and the only way we can be competitive is to lower our wages. And of course that does not include the median 10 million dollar compensation packages the CEO’s are receiving because they deserve to live like kings while the serfs beg for food.

What a disappointment the president has turned out to be. Yes, I voted for him because a Romney presidency would have been devastating for our country. As a vulture capatalist he has already done enough damage. With that said Obama only seems to care about drones. If they tied this to a drone financing bill it would pass.

  • Kim Dadas

Obama has NO hair on his A_S to do anything. If he did he would of done something 5 months ago. Damage is done, most of us have lost everything we have worked for! What an AMERICAN DREAM!

    • Minnie

That is what the republicans want you to believe. Obama has his hands tied and cannot sign the bill unless it is passed by both the senate and congress. What he is trying to do is skin the cat from a different angle. The republicans filibustered the minimum wage increase bill, so what Obama is trying to do, is deal with governors from each state to work something out. There are many governors that are willing to increase the minimum wage. About the UE I really wish that he can take the darn bill that is sitting in the House and just signed it. But that is not possible. The republicans will do anything to make Obama look bad, or actually fail. They are thriving on that. Its sad that they used us as a political football.

If they can’t even get support to pay a living wage to the many millions of people who are working at a pitifully low minimum wage, it’s no surprise they won’t help those of us who have lost our jobs through no fault of our own. At this late date, we are completely invisible. No sensible economic argument or amount of moral shaming will convince people who refuse to see, even as 3 million (and growing) people fall further behind. So what if it’s 5 million by the midterm election? The total failure of this government to work on a true employment strategy – create jobs, protect workers, increase wages and provide temporary assistance is self-evident.

The Republicans block any progress that might be attributed as success for Obama’s administration.
The Democrats are too weak to demand action, even when they could force the issue.
The President lacks the will to command respect (no one is afraid to cross him).
The media ignores the subject altogether because it doesn’t point the blame at the right or the left.

It seems there are no minimum requirements for Congress in terms of attendance, performance or results. Basically, we pay them to raise campaign funds for their own future job security. Time for a new solution.

  • cocerned

Shifting blame isn’t going to help. The ball is in bone heads court and it has been
Boehner said we were lazy at first and then he said the bill has to be paid for they got it paid for came up With a bipartisan bill and he still come up with excuses, it is what it is, the Republicans don’t care about anyone who’s not making millions of dollars each year even if you’re a Republican and you don’t make that much money, they don’t even know you exist

  • aaaa aa

He is a coward like the rest of these elected officials on BOTH sides of the isle.I believe they never had any intention on letting this pass in the first place.Just used these AMERICANS as pawns so they cant point fingers at the other side thinking it would be of some sort of political gain for them come November.
THEY ALL SHOULD BE VOTED OUT COME NOVEMBER
Now they are talking about a new bill without retroactive benefits, only helping the newly unemployed
What a bunch of BULL$HIT.Leaving 1.3 million behind.Yes 1.3 million, not the 2,8 million now unemployed. The new bill would only cover the newly?? unemployed from January 1st.The original 1.3 million would get nothing from the new bill
What a shame what they did to these AMERICANS

  • Radner

Obama doesn’t want the bill to really pass, because then he and the Democrats won’t have anything to attack the Republicans on anymore.
Thanks for this article pointing out how Obama, for his part, has really done nothing to improve the passage of the bill. He seems particularly good at this: doing nothing.

    • FedUpInNJ

There is plenty to “attack” Republicans for, unemployment should be a bipartisan issue like tax breaks for the wealthy. Boehner has finally ruined the Republican party once and for all and people will see that come November. We will NOT FORGET.

  • roger william jefferson

They don’t care about the people. All they care about is 20 years minimum in the office and all the money they can make.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

Every congressman receives a daily meal allowance of $148, every day, 365 days of the year, they voted to raise it last year, they receive $174000 a year in salary, free first class air travel, either a chauffeur driven government limo, or they can take the cost in cash. There’s not one benefit they would give up but they are prepared to see millions of starving families as a viable prospect without even hinting that they themselves should sacrifice 1 cent. Nearly everyone in congress is a millionaire and that wealth detachment of never suffering throughout their lives breeds a cold callousness bordering on disgust at the lives average Americans lead and no concept that poverty is a state of
permanent pain that is fracturing the psyche of the nation.
If for no other reason than a sane economical reason at least a reality check would force these elitists to acknowledge that unemployment benefits are spent completely and store owners depend on that money to hire more staff but empathy would be the better motive.
    CHECK THIS FACT…
Between 2006 and 2011, Medicare spend a whopping $172 million on penis pumps. That’s a lot of penis pumps!
That’s according to Reuters, reporting on findings from a government watchdog. The numbers are no joke:
The report by the inspector general for the Department of Health and Human Services said Medicare, the government health insurance system for seniors, paid nearly 474,000 claims for vacuum erection systems, or VES, totaling about $172.4 million from 2006 to 2011. Yearly claims for the devices nearly doubled from $20.6 million in 2006 to $38.6 million in 2011.
THEY VOTE TO ALLOW PENIS PUMPS , BUT NOT FOOD FOR THE PEOPLE THAT PUT THEM OUT THERE.
I DONE MY TIME IN THE MILITARY , I FOUGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY. I DID MY PART.
I’M DONE WAITING… GOD BLESS YOU GUYS..

While the Justice Department is investigating VA they should take a look on what’s happening on the house floor. Our politicians aren’t doing the job that they have been sworn to do. I would have loved to have the work schedule they have over the long work years of my life. I want justice for hard working Americans.

Sad thing is, they could leave out the door tomorrow and all live very comfortable lives with all the money that’s been paid to them by special interest groups. Oh well sorry about your luck folks!

  • Boomerang

Time for another nationwide protest such as Occupy Wall street. If the unemployed who are now homeless set up camps throughout the country, especially in DC, at least their plight would receive the media attention it deserves, and force their hand. Maybe when this disgrace on the American people is right under their noses and cannot be ignored will these assholes take action.

  • Advocate

Why keep these dated politicians in office?? Rid them like the plague. These dated politicians clearly don’t relate with 2014 and should be voted out without delay. The extension should have been extended last year.

    Good luck everyone.

    Hi,

The media is not reporting on 4 million unemployed people having their
unemployment benefits cut, being describe as ‘lazy’ and Congress
    refusing to act.

That’s why I created a petition to CNN News Headquarters, which says:

“The media is not reporting on what is happening to unemployed people in America.”

Will you sign my petition? Click here to add your name:

Maybe it is time to remember Viet Nam and what those of us remember as what was needed to be done to end the war. This is what the government understands and is what really scares them.

It is time for all of the American People to unite before it is to late and FEMA and the NWO destroys our way of life for good. This means no more cell phones, video games, going out for a good time, home and family life, and will leave nothing but America becoming the lowest of third world countries and slave labor camps.

Listen, I’ve always voted a Democratic ticket, and I like Obama, but he is just as guilty of stalling this Bill as the GOP.

He apparently did nothing to be proactive in pushing this Bill though. All he did was make a few self-serving, and party serving, comments to the media about how much he wanted it passed. Yet he did nothing to make sure it got passed.

At the end of day, Obama and the Democrats, can point their fingers at the GOP all they want to, but the fact is, the Dems didn’t want to give up concessions to get this done.

At the end of the day, their political gamesmanship was more important to them, than the people in desperate need of help. The GOP, the DEMS, and the WHITE HOUSE, are all equally to blame here.

Obama and his press people coming out now and saying they haven’t given up on an extension, is yet another self-serving statement, because they don’t intend to do anything but talk, not act.

  • Teresa

Nothing will be done because the unemployment numbers are going down. Not only will they not help us with assistance, but now they won’t even count us. I know the unemployment number does not include the 3 plus million people that have been cut off. I can’t even submit my claims anymore.

    • Icare

You have to realize that the jobs being created are temporary and seasonal summer jobs which will end in the Fall. By then the unemployment rate should be double what it is now. Very few of these jobs will be permanent.

Quantitative easing (QE) is an unconventional monetary policy used by central banks to stimulate the economy when standard monetary policy has become ineffective.[1][2][3] A central bank implements quantitative easing by buying specified amounts of financial assets from commercial banks and other private institutions, thus raising the prices of those financial assets and lowering their yield, while simultaneously increasing the monetary base.[4][5] This is distinguished from the more usual policy of buying or selling short term government bonds in order to keep interbank interest rates at a specified target value.

Thank you Mr. Putin, we wish you could lead America.

  • drhoops

So that’s the game plan Mr. President? Do nothing?
So the State of the Union speech was all bs?
So when they say you’re aloof and out of touch, that’s true?
So Unemployment Extension which you said was a high priority, was the priority du jour a few months ago?
You have VETERANS who are suffering by this extension not being passed and you add the debacle with the VA hospital situation and you just going to stand still?
I said a few months ago and I will repeat it. If an extension for the entire year is not passed before Congress goes on their summer break, I will voice my displeasure with my life long Democratic party and President by NOT voting in November.
I encourage the 3,000,000 long term unemployed to do the same thing and NOT to vote in November and then Mr. President, you can enjoy your next two years in the White House watching the Bulls play the Wizards because nothing will get done with a Republican House and Senate.

  • Yonatan YONATAN

THE WHITE HOUSE AND THE SENATE HAVE FAILIED THESE MILLIONS OF FAMILIES MISERABLY. WITH EACH BLAMING THE OTHER FOR NOT DOING ENOUGH TO PASS THE EXTENSION BILL, THE SAD TRUTH IS THAT THEY NEVER TRULY CARED ENOUGH ABOUT PASSING IT FROM THE VERY START. THIS ALL ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE IN-FIGHTING AND PARTY POLITICS THAT HAVE BEEN GOING ON TO THE MISFORTUNE OF THE 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES LEFT HUNG OUT TO DRY, MANY WHO HAVE SINCE BEEN FINANCIALLY DESTROYED IN THE PROCESS. THESE POLITICIANS DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF THE 99 PERCENTERS IN THIS COUNTRY, BUT RATHER FOR THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS AND BIG CORPORATIONS, AND THEIR OWN PERSONAL WELL BEING. AMERICANS HAVE NO ONE REPRESENTING THEIR INTEREST ANY LONGER. SHAME ON THESE BOTH PARTIES FOR THEIR LACK OF ACTION AND COMPASSION FOR THEIR FELLOW AMERICANS IN NEED. AMERICA NEEDS A REVOLUTION AGAIN TO CHANGE THE COURSE OF WHERE WE’RE GOING. THIS COMING ELECTION WILL BE THE 99 PERCENTERS OPPORTUNITY TO VOTE THESE POLITICAL LIFERS OUT OF THEIR CUSGHY JOBS.

Well look at the Republicans in the House not Obama, they have blocked every bill that would’ve helped the American people! That’s where most of the blame should be placed!

      • Layla

No. They are both at fault. The Dems control the Senate and Reid is blocking JOBS bills being offered by the Republicans.

        Wise up, Joy. Vote smarter.

  • wsucram15

This is not about one side or the other..it is definitively about both sides and their own interests during an election year. At first, I believed this was about bipartisanship behavior but not now, this is simply an issue for elections. The problems in Washington run so deep that sacrificing human beings with their families now means nothing because they still have 2/3rds of the working class left to pay taxes and support the budget. However most of their money comes from big business and this has to stop…
People start with your legislators in your state..not at federal level but your state leaders and request them to Fight for Free & Fair Elections in your state..
It is imperative we get the money out of the political process or people will continue to be the victims of our big business government.

  • Amici88

Obama = No Trust, No Confidence… he’s a proven liar

  • Mike DiMarzo

I totally believe that the President has now become as rapped up in the political crap as the congress has,He is afraid of the democrat votes in the election year as well as the rest of worthless congress. THE MIGHTY VOTE IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN 3.5 Million Families!

May karma come knocking at your door soon…and it will!!!

      • mrmano_0

700,000 each week??…um…you may want to double check your sources…typical garbage from Joy…I’ll never be unemployed…I planned well ahead…I’m in the salad years..having a great time..and you are using “karma” incorrectly…educate yourself Joy so you don’t sound like a cliché..which is a lazy way of speaking…clichés show a lack of education…

When viewing our country’s problems, it can be easy to place blame and
point fingers, especially when its something that personally affects
us…Yet when you step back and look at the bigger picture, it becomes
clear that the real problem is neither democrat nor republican. The real
problem being that of our entire political system. What was created as a
voice for the vested interest of the people has made the blatant
disregard for the american people into “business as usual”. Our
politicians daily business is that of buying/selling votes, trading
political support for personal gain and blind eyes to what american citizens want and need are sold to the highest bidder.

    During the
infancy of our country, officials were of the people, elected by the
people, as a voice of the people. Then as time passed the country grew,
as did the greed of politicians and the government as a whole. It is
that very same political greed and financial motivation of the
government that sparked the desire of 13 states to leave the union.
(only 11 officially did ) This was a choice given to all states by the
for thought of the founding fathers and written into the bill of rights.
This was to offer protection in the event that the government became
hostile or unjust in there actions toward the states. At the time, 80%
of the country’s revenue was generated by taxes and tariffs paid by
those same southern states. They felt that the taxes and tariffs were
inflated or just simply unjustified. After all, the people in those
states were mostly uneducated and living in poverty yet they were
supporting the nation. They felt that they could better use the revenue
generated by there products and goods for the betterment of there own
impoverished populations. The same government greed that made them want
to leave the union was the exact same monetary motivation that led the
government to refuse them the rights given to them when this country was
founded. The union thought that the ignorant hicks would submit and do
what they were told to do. Which was to continue to pay the imposed
taxes (to support the country) yet the southern states still refused to
give in to there wishes. With that, the union then saw fit to cut off
shipping and trade routes in a effort to starve and cripple them
financially. Eventually, bluffs were called on both sides as they stood
firm on what they believed rite. Those beliefs and the willingness to
die for them would be set in stone during the predawn hours of April 12,
1861, when confederate troops in Charleston SC, fired on Fort Sumter. Some
historians believe that Lincoln may have tricked the confederates into
firing that first shot. Either way, this would mark the beginning of the
    Civil War.
The union, having superior finances, equipment, training and
sheer numbers, still thought they could “whoop em into submission” and
end this fairly quickly. They couldn’t have been any further from
    correct with that assumption.
After a couple of years, the country was
deep into what would become the bloodiest battle ever fought on american
soil. The government has by now realized that the confederate army
wasn’t the push over’s they had mistaken them for and that the situation
they had created wasn’t gonna blow over or somehow, just go away. What
had begun as the united states government trying to push some dumb hicks
around and strip states of there rights, had now become something much
more. This was real american people, fighting one another and dying,
rite here at home..by now, they couldn’t sweep this under a rug and
pretend it didn’t happen….but, how would it look if our history books
told the tale of those 600,000 american lives lost because they wouldn’t
lay down there weapons and submit, when there own government attempted
to rob them of not only there money but the rites granted them by the
founders of the nation as well.. damage control was desperately
needed…a platform had to be created to justify the bloodshed and a
political soapbox had to be built..so, with that, the war to abolish
slavery was born. The truth being, the united states government nor
Lincoln had any intentions of abolishing slavery. That is, till he
needed justification for the body count created by his administrations
greed. As a matter of fact, the northern states weren’t even affected by
the anti slavery movement. The only states that Lincoln was concerned
with the abolishing slavery in, were the states he was at war with.
    The
southern states were made to be the racist monsters, while the union
was made out to be the the hero who defeated the monster and freed the
    slaves.
This is a historic example of the greed that motivates our
government and the lengths they will go to not only satisfy that greed
but to hide the truth. Even when the cost of that greed is paid for with
the lives of 600,000 american people.

At a minimum, Mr. Carney, your comments are disingenuous and glib. Nearly 3 million mostly productive Americans can’t make ends meet / feed families or keep a roof over their heads due to circumstances not entirely in their control and you say,”…it’s a shame.” Really?? Did it also occur to you/your boss that many among these 3 million are veterans who have also been doubly affected by the VA debacle? Reasonable people do reasonable things. Neither the Republicans nor Democrats are clean on this, so don’t pretend the administration is on the ‘right’ side because you’re not. You can’t count me among the thousands who are giving up hope (daily) on a system we paid into for years.

Shame and hope does not help millions of Americans in need of a lifeline until liveable wage jobs are created once again in this country. Our “leaders” sent the jobs out of this country and they need to get them back. Our “leaders” enabled Wall Street and Banks in the economic debacle and those greedy criminals carry on with no consequences. Until jobs are created and available Americans deserve the lifeline they worked for years to support by generating profits for the companies they worked for. Everyone vote Independent across the board and get rid of these worthless overpaid underperforming empty suits. Start over with a clean slate.

  • Joe

Politicians smell of this funny order. Obama pretends to play the good cop and the Republicans the bad cop. They both don’t care about unemployment in till the rates stop dipping. Once the percentages rise again and which they will. It will be too late. I told you so kind of instance. We need an election like Pope Francis. Somebody needs to clean up the dirt in Washington.

    • satoshi n.

Joe I have studied how the rate of u.e. is calculated in economics class by a phd prof.. Here is the p.r. trick, when the person hits the 26.1 week no longer receiving u.e. check the labor dept declares him as not unemployed which falsely LOWERS the stated u.e. rate. Right now the labor dept states 93.6 % of americans are working.

  • AdMan

If the president was interested he could have called Mr. Boehner and discussed. Regardless of the outcome someone needs to tell Mr. Obama that actions (or lack of actions) speak louder the words.

Angel good comment. Angel if you save your money in the bank it is subject to seizure from many entities. Bitcoin is an possible solution. Frank you are totally correct.

The Democrats, unfortunately, sealed the fate of the long-term unemployed when they allowed the budget to pass without the inclusion of adding unemployment benefits. In effect, the Dems threw the unemployed to Republican wolves who were thirsty to ravage themselves on people they consider to be Obama’s people. A very insensitive thing to do. I would have expected better of the Dems.

  • AndrewGross

GOP is mean-spirited. However, Dems blew it by not fighting for it during budget process

    • erick

The republicans believe in tough love. Love the privileged few and tough for everybody else.

  • mae

The Elites of the Iluminati, probally have something to do with the unemployment not going any where…When the devil is involved in something,It must be defeated in order to Prevail.. Prayer,is the way to bring anything bad down!!!

According to white house aids it’s part of the Democrats mid term strategy for Obama to refuse to compromise with Republicans http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/26/us/politics/democrats-as-part-of-midterm-strategy-to-schedule-votes-on-pocketbook-issues.html?referrer=

  • FedUpInNJ

Obama needs to get off his butt and get this passed. 3 million are ready to riot and the # of unemployed without a lifeline grows by 72,000 each week. The press can say this “isn’t an issue” for the Republicans in the mid term elections but it most definitely IS. Republicans have blocked this vote for b reasons since Dec and people WILL NOT FORGET. Obama needs to get this passed because over 3 million people ARE READY to riot. Crime will increase, foreclosures have hapened, vehicles have been repossessed, credit ratings have been ruined and for what? So politicians can “make a point”? SHAMEFUL. The American people have had enough of do nothing politicians and that includes the POTUS. SHAMEFUL.

everyone of these reps and dems should be put on the front line and shot

  • Anita Brown

I think that it is a shame that the unemployed people of America have to suffer this why just because of one person in the house holds their lives in his hands. They can send money all over the world to take care of others but won’t take care of their own. This is discussing how they treat their own. Pres Obama needs to step up to the plate and do something to help, being quite and letting the house ruin peoples lives.

    • satoshi n.

Anita if people would call night or day at least it would be an annoyance to potus ,media , or whoever seems to give more airtime to physcial exercise math class. did you call Boehner?

      • Anita Brown

No I did not call him, I have emailed him and no response. I think that he is a rude uncaring person. I hope that that he or none of his family ever have to go through what we are going through. He would rather see people starve, lose their home, and live on the streets. I know that these company that they say are hiring are not, and you can apply and they just throw your application in the trash as soon as you walk out the door. So when they say that we are not trying to find employment they lied.

  • satoshi n.

Hey republicans and potus just admit that the 3 million people out of 11 million unemployed, when you get a job we will be their to jack your employer the first paycheck you receive our 7% FUTA TAX, but right now you 3 million people we aint giving you nothing just loose your utilities and apartments.

When you get a job and you will get a job, we potus and republicans will not wait 5 months to start collecting our futa insurance cash from your employer we want our futa taxes now.
A potus and the republicans say for all those evicted and loosing utilities that’s just fine and although we could give a f………. less right now let us know when you get a job because we will have our hand in your employers wallet extracting our futa taxes which is SUPPOSE TO BE INSURANCE FOR JOB LOSS. A potus

  • satoshi n.

potus knows if he states the extension will never happen there might be a reaction so the way to keep them docile is to say we are still trying.

  • Ralph

If we keep letting people fall through the cracks we won’t have to worry about helping hungry and homeless people around the world we will have them right here in America which is happening right now as we speak.

  • Pat

I am so disappointed in our President regarding this situation. I cannot believe he is at a status quo regarding UE, especially considering how many of our veterans have been affected. What the hell is going on? How can ANY of them sleep at night, when people are starving, losing their homes, their cars, and in some cases, their children, and unfortunately, some have lost their lives. But, hey, the senate got their raises, the Ukraine got their money and there have been, what…5 or 6 vacations taken, while people slowly lose everything?

  • ArmedLiberal

The Republican party is entirely to blame for the unemployment extention not being passed.

Democrats wanted the extension in the budget. Republicans said no.
Democrats wanted a 12 month extension. Republicans said no and cut it down to 5 months. Which of course was held up by Republicans in the House until that five moths expired.

Republicans are ENTIRELY responsible for millions of Americans suffering in an economy that they refuse improve just so that they can try and make the President look bad.

Republicans hate the American people and our way of life.

REALLY?? THE PRESIDENT HASN’T GIVEN UP?? THE REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS HAVE FAILED THE MORE THAN 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES WITHOUT BENEFITS SINCE LAST DECEMBER. THESE MILLIONS OF FAMILIES HAVE FACED EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, PERSONAL BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WHILE THE TWO POLITICAL PARTIES HELD THE EXTENSION BILL HOSTAGE IN THE SENATE. THEY CHOSE TO MAKE THE PEOPLE SUFFER RATHER THAN TO COOPERATE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE PEOPLE. THESE POLITICIANS NEED TO BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE IN THE NEXT ELECTION. THIS SHOULF NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. THESE POLITICIANS ARE A DISGRACE,

  • http://www.libertariancomment.com/ Glenn

I’m a libertarian (a real one, not an anarchist) and even I think the unemployment extension should go through. What so many dingbats who oppose this don’t get is that it ISN’T WELFARE. UI is only available to those who have worked for a significant period of time. The extension isn’t for “years” as some liars said, in fact it varies by state based on he unemployment rate – in NH it would be 20 more weeks of benefits.

In a free market economy, people are going to get jostled around a bit and UI was designed to help people through those ups and downs. Sure, there are like 85 federal welfare programs that should be cut – but not this. This is for real workers, not moochers. Sigh, out politics have become so stupid.

  • purefukery

file the extension i don’t want to go back to work when my benefits run out ! !! ! ! ! ! !

  • conservativechick

Democrats put funding for illegal immigrants ahead of unemployed Americans. Maybe Democrats should think less about illegal immigrants, and more about the American people.

  • l from denver

Obama, and staff will surprise you all

  • Frank

I just read a MSN Money article that left me angry. It said that now the recession is over baby boomers are now retiring in droves reducing the unemployment levels. The truth is that baby boomers are left with no choice but to retire because of the rampant age discrimination that has caused them to lose their jobs and prevented them from finding new ones. MSN loses its credibility by printing a false information and the overwhelming feedback to this article proves it.

Please forget about party and your legacy for a minute. Pick up the phone,
humble yourself for the American people, who you say is your primary mission
and call the irresponsible house leader John Boehner, Ask the ego maniac how we can move forward the unemployment extension issue. If billions of dollars can
be given away to countries as a bribe to stay friends with the US and billion
dollars of tax cuts can be given to companies with the hope they will invest in
America. Then how can almost 4 million Americans citizens who for NO fault of their own be held hostage AS A NEGOTIATION TOOL. Do the right thing. The Lord is your BOSS is watching.

Obama did not try and is not trying to make this an issue and put pressure on the house. I am disgusted with them all.
